For anybody curious about the "animation" dockers in updated Krita - the "animation timeline" docker now has everything you need built into the dock. On the right hand side of the docker, you will see an onion button - this enables onion skins, and beside that you will see three horizontal lines stacked upon one another - this contains your start/end for the old "animation" docker, and to the far left topside of the "animation timeline" docker you will find the play/pause buttons etc. Hope this helps for anybody who was a little confused like I was :)

I'm learning animation as a college degree, I'll be honest, I have a history class, which I love and hate (Because I'm shit at remembering dates), and we learned about Disney, and how they are more tyrants than not :|
But I digress, my animation teacher told us to watch your video, said it was a bit outdated, but it had everything we needed to know in half an hour for animating in Krita. I was skeptical, but man you actually did it! My teacher also told the class the Animator's Survival Books is more like our Sacred Bible because it legitimately has EVERYTHING we need to evolve and progress.
All in all, my teacher probably gave you around one thousand views already! I know, not much in comparison, but he can only promote so much x'D

On the onion skin thing, doing right arrow key, then pressing delete does NOT work (for me at least)
the delete key deletes the onion layer as well
to fix it go to Settings-> Configure Krita-> Keyboard Shortcuts-> search for 'Create Blank Frame'
Assign it a shortcut. I did ` (next to the 1)
I spent so much time trying to find the solution to this. The onion layers are finally working.

    • @thetiredraven8488

i did the same thing but my onion skins wont work , what did you do to fix them?

    • @PixelGaming_2020
      @PixelGaming_2020 4 роки тому +1

@@thetiredraven8488 That's weird. Did you right click the orange area in your timeline and click on 'Create Blank Frame'? There will be a lightbulb that pops up and you need to click on it to toggle the onion skins on.
One extra thing that I probably forgot to mention is after you draw something, you need to press your right arrow key, then your 'Create Blank Frame' button
finish that frame, then repeat the process.
My main point here was not to press the delete button, as shown in the video, but to set a keyboard shortcut for creating a blank frame.
      Hope this helps.

Two of my main hobbies are computer science and animation. Programming for more than half of the day on a regular basis left me burned out, but I felt bad for just lazing around all day, so I decided to finally learn how to animate properly. (I used to export each frame individually and then put them into a video editing program.) Upon finding out that I have to do _more_ computer stuff _after_ finishing the animation, I nearly cried. It’s almost midnight and I want to go to sleep, but my leftover golden child syndrome won’t let me.

I agree. I'm on my tenth Grade and I'm about to complete Junior High School (in my country, Grades 1-6 is Elementary, 7-10 is Junior HS, and 11-12 is Senior HS).
And I just wanna say I am sick of it. They teach you things you'll most likely never use. I mean, it's fine and it's fun to know stuff about our cells and various organ systems but if it's more of a fun fact topic, not mandatory.
And in other countries, it's not mandatory to go to college but that wasn't the case until about two years ago here. You have to attend college or you'll be looked at as this retarded lazy ass. But even until now, most people still think that.
I wanna focus on art more. If I'm lucky, I can sell a few of my work or get commissions. At least, you can earn some money, compared to school where you spend them just to get to another year of hell.

    1. The pace. the pace is perfect and I could do everything he did in real time which was epic and I even made a little animation.
    2. The voice. The voice was happy but not so happy that it got annoying and not so calmig that you were like "ok we get it youre a calm person but please get on with the tutorial". You explained things so clearly and politely and even with the terrible memory that I have, going over those things really helped.
    3. The way you demonstrated things at normal speed and pointed things out also really helped and the fact you covered so much, made me remember it AND still kept the video really entertaining amazes me.

My old art teacher recommended Krita to me a long time ago, he had me install it and use it in class, as soon as I got home I would clock off of it and go straight to Firealpaca. My art teacher had a way of rushing through explanations and I didn’t really understand. This left me to slowly start getting more and more overwhelmed with the class. My friend that had been going with me also got overwhelmed, but she quit classes. Soon enough I was the only one still going to his class because I was to polite to stop. Eventually, he quit classes and I haven’t opened Krita since.
Until now. One thing with firealpaca, it has no animation. As much as I love it, I hate the way I have to animate. I’ve been animating on Flip a clip, but I don’t like drawing on flip a clip, so I have to copy paste from Firealpaca, which often leads to me rushing through projects and them looking horrible.
This video has helped me so much! You are so polite and make an amazing teacher, thank you so much for not letting me give up

Whenever I do attempt to do this, the layer is not saved as a frame, since a future frame still shows the pasted frame before it. Can someone please help me with this? Sorry if my explanation wasn't the clearest!

@Rokee two months too late, but i have something that could work. i use it with sai, however im sure it will work for firealpaca. in fp, use the select tool on the layer you want to copy, use cntrl+c to copy, then go to krita and open a new file or whatever it is that youre working on, and use cntrl+v to paste it. hope this helps!

@@longingdebttosociety301 I've done that and as I said, it doesn't save as a frame, whenever I play the animation the pasted drawing shows throughout the whole thing

@@rokee4237 oh shoot i forgot to mention that part. so what youre going to have to do is create a layer and make multiple frames. Then you paste it, and combine the layers so said copied layer can show up on the layer with multiple frames. Though after you paste it, you'll have to copy each frame to the other frames. :)

I actually adore krita and use it all the time. I thank you so much for this tutorial. I believe it's a huge programme, considering that it is free, and I appreciate a lot your explanation. Again, thank you. I'll go in your profile later to check updates on something similar
