This is why I don’t understand modern gaming. Why the hell would I buy a $700 console that slightly improves the visuals that I won’t be able to tell the difference? All this angle checking to see an extra pixel to justify wasting almost a band?
I've been saying this for years. At some point, game rendering and fidelity will get to a point where you can't tell the difference between the new fancy releases and the games on last gen hardware. It's the same with higher screen resolutions and frame rates, and I honestly don't know if the PS6 will have much difference to the PS5 Pro, apart from maybe higher frame rates.
Its not simply the difference of price between countries/continents. Its the average wage that is not even close. US average wages are way above the average wage in Europe. Ofc its getting balance by a higher cost of living in US compared to Europe but in the end wasting 700 dollars as an American vs 800 euros as a European outside of some exceptions(Germany, Louxemburg, Netherlands and a few others) is almost close to depositing a full wage, especially if you consider the additional disk slot. In not comfortable with building/tinkering with a lot of things, but you know what makes me learn? This. I’m going to figure out building a rig. There’s a wealth of info online, and people kind enough to help. $700 for a proprietary box, with no optical drive, is wild. The missing stand is a “f you, pay me” move. To counter your point on PCs being "too expensive", $700 is already well on your way to get a good pc, so at that point you just save up for a bit longer and you can have what you need. That's the whole key to that situation, patience. If buying a console as soon as you acquire half of the money for a good pc instead of putting into a savings account, chances are you're not very responsible with money
$700 won't even get you close to a great GPU if you want to build your own PC. However, at $700, I'd rather spend the extra $1000 for a Zephyrus G14 on sale. I can probably get it for even less on Black Friday.
Nvm, I was wrong. A 4070 Super is $100 less than a PS5 Pro without the disk drive or stand 😂💀. An amazing gaming PC costs just barely over a PS5 Pro. And if you want to play online, even less so. 60 fps is always welcomed but with complete honesty!! I still consider solid 30 fps with consistent frame pacing to be a very playable experience. I played Dead Space Remake on my Series S (as it is available on Gamepass) despite having a PS5, and had a great time with it.
There are people who are still on the fence about buying a PS5. Now Sony wants to push out a Pro version for $700 and doesn't come with a disc drive and side stand?
This thing is too much money, $700 for a console is insane, and when you think about it, the damn thing has a cpu bottle neck, so every game that runs bad because of the cpu won’t run better because the cpu is the damn same

Another thing about premium consoles vs PC that favors buying a console apart from price and ease is space. A high-end PC setup takes up a lot of space. I live alone in an apartment and my desk and setup is in the space where a normal person (or someone with a partner) would have their TV and a console. My friend who's also a PC gamer but lives with his GF needs to have his PC in a closet because it's the only space it fits without taking up their entire living- or bedroom.
This generation has been quite disappointing and pathetic. We're 4 years in and companies are still focusing primarily on hardware instead of delivering unique software designed for current technology. There are way too many cross generation games made with last generation tech (Unreal Engine 4 for instance), remasters and remakes. The fact that the PS5 Pro doesn't have an optical drive makes the original PS5 model the best Sony console this generation because it's the only one that reads discs without having to connect to the internet.
@@susanna8612 yea like on console all games are designed to run at a certain graphical quality and fps so having stronger hardware does basically nothing other than improved load times and perhaps smoother gameplay on larger games
I think they were originally planning to feature Concord. But due to circumstances they had to throw something else together and that’s why it’s current and past games . On paper, these are the specs people wanted the PS5 to have at launch. Typicality 30fps is fine, I'm not stuck up or picky, but holy crap did I struggle getting Spider-Man 2 to run the way I wanted on either mode. This performance is a welcome change. And PlayStation brand DLSS is huge step in the right direction. The problem is, the real big 3 here is $700 price tag, no disc drive, no stand. That's a deal breaker. After buying the disc drive and the stand, you're looking at $900+.
I don’t think Sony expects ps5 pro to become the primary console. I think they will target the same ratio of ps4 pro which was 20%. Portal also sold more than what people expected. I didn’t think people would buy $1500 gpu but it sells.
@@Blast1314 That is what the ratio was apparently according to reports. I have to specify, the 20% was after the release of the pro model and not overall numbers.
Apparently, people do not understand why Sony decided to price the device at such an exaggerated price. It is trying to prepare the world from now on, so that when their next device is released in 2027, its price will be very close to the current price of the Pro, and perhaps more.

You can 100% build a PC that runs PS5 games for $700-$800. This isn't some amazing gift to technology, it's still a PC. So you can go buy it, and I hope you enjoy it - but don't buy it because you think it's some great deal that could never be found in the PC market. Though I guess if you are making that argument you also aren't familiar with building and only insist on buying pre-made, then yes... Pre-made PCs cost a lot more. They also wouldn't make a PC that's as low end as a PS5 and will try to sell you something that's only 5x-10x more powerful. Also, no. The GPU is NOT faster than 3080ti, lol.
Salaries are different in EU, GB and Japan (usually lower than in the US I guess, at least for me). Japan rarely has real salary increases and is struggling under having inflations hit it more than ever. I can't imagine spending 140000yen for ps5 pro and disk. They just increased the regular version by 20%. It is an insane price tag.
In turn, you could get a solid controller adapter for your phone, a GeForce now ultimate account (they use a 4080 gpu for cloud based) and screen cast to your tv for much cheaper and basically using stuff you have.
I wonder if the PS5 Pro enters the danger zone of prices with this move. When I upgraded my PC from a 2070 super I went back and forth between the 4070 and the 4080, landing on the latter, because both had big price-tags, but at least with the 4080 I wouldn't have to wonder if I was gonna be able to run a game I wanted for a couple of years. 799€ without the vertical stand, without a blu-ray disk drive - that puts it dangerously close to a gaming PC, leaving only PS5 exclusives as an incentive to get one.
For 800 euro you can build the following PC: CPU: Ryzen 5 5600 GPU: Radeon RX 6750XT 12GB Motherboard: ASROCK B550M-HDV /AM4 RAM: KINGSTON 2X16GB DDR4 3200 Mhz SSD: 2TB Kingston NV2 SSD | SNV2S/2000G Power Supply: Seasonic B12-BC-650, 650W Bronze 85+ Case: DeepCool Macube 110 R-MACUBE110-WHNGM1N-G-1 (you can put whatever case in around 60 euro range tbh) If you want to take into consideration the stand + disc drive will cost 900 euro you can put Radeon RX 7700XT 12GB.
The problem isn't the hardware it's the software... they just want to utilize more advanced hardware so the CPU will do I the work (brute force all the code) what they should focus on is making fully optimized games and utilizing the current hardware to it's full potential...
For the 800 Euro price point you'd think they would be able to include the Disc Drive and AT LEAST the stand. This may be a reach but seeing as it's the PRO model, it would be cool to have the Dualsense Edge included.
I have a ps5, but I've been really upset with the way they've been moving, and this has pushed me towards pc. I'm getting one next year. I can't wait to finally be able to use mods and not have to buy 2 to 3 controllers within 2 months.
I feel like we have reached a point where technology for these consoles has somewhat stagnated. It’s going to take some sort of technical breakthrough to really impress people and make another console worthwhile. I really do not understand who this console is for or why someone would feel to need to get one over a regular PS5. This is just adding bells and whistles to something instead of an actual improvement that people care about. $700 for something that will improve things in a way that I will never be able to notice unless I know what to look for is actually insane. We have a Sega 32X situation right here.
In denmark this is most likely going to cost between 6000 and 6500 kr. (885 usd to 960 usd). that is insane for a console which cant even stand upright by itself...
Countries with Euro have ~20-24% tax included in the price. $700 is ~634€ atm, including tax this is ~760-790€ depending on country. The official price in Europe is not much more than in the US no matter what Luke is claiming.

Sony's butt hurt about Concord
PS5 pro price before Concord happened: 599.
PS5 Pro price *after* Concord happened: 699.
$700 for a system that has less features out of the box than the base due to no disc drive (costs $80 to get), and don't give me any of that "all games require download/patches" crap cuz its false and they couldn't even include the $30 plastic stand or bundle it with one of the 3 exclusives the system currently has. I probably wasn't gonna upgrade anyway, I stuck with the base ps4 all through its life but that disc drive not being built in means I'm guaranteed to be sticking with the base here too.
Where I live ( EU) the digital version of the PS5 today is 449.99.
Asking someone to pay almost 2 times that is insane. And the minimum wage is 820/month. This are insane prices.

OG PS5 was supposedly expected to run games with 60 fps/4k already at launch too but Sony lied. Now u need to pay them 800 to 1000€ more to get what you already paid for when buying PS5. Insane.
This is the first console generation I've not bought, had a ps1 through to ps4, even when I bought a pc
At this point all you need is a PC and switch to meet all your gaming needs.
Dear lord.
Sony is smelling themselves, as they do at least once a generation when their competitor seems to have been erased.
Buy a PC. This is my tipping point.

I have a friend who claims he only wants to see the best graphics possible. He won't even try performance mode, even though I told him to just try it out. You can't change some people...
Luke's got a pretty good Dana Carvey impression.
The PS5 Pro!!! You can't afford it so you might as well buy a regular PS5, or a Steam Deck which is cheaper, portable, and can play almost all of the PS5 games that are released on Steam.
They have to get back the concord money somewhere and now we know from where.
Watch them release a PS5 software update the wrecks the performance of the regular PS5 to boost PS5 PRO sales. Just like apple and Iphone last time
Apple released an update once that made every midi instrument I had obsolete. So I never bought an apple product again.
@@jonasking9587 That's infuriating. Meanwhile Samsung sold me a laptop with a defective motherboard that keeps sending twice the load to my speakers and blowing them out, also destroying the soldered on headphone jack. They still want me to pay for them to repair it and them send it back worse off than before, because Samsung always destroys laptops when they "repair" them. I wish I could just switch out the board, but they have everything soldered to it and I'll have to replace all of those, too, which I can't because Samsung doesn't sell their overpriced proprietary parts commercially. And even if they did, it would still cost more than this $3300 laptop + the $1450 of repairs I've already had. Never buy a Samsung laptop. Great phones, garbage laptops. $700 for a minor graphical update is nuts.
For $700 the PS5 Pro should have 7900 XTX Grfx in it
800€ here in Europe is robbery.
This was brutal. Pooping on your current system is insane. The differences are so minuscule in real time. Sony should be embarrassed. Not impressive in the least
You can spend $1500 to get twice the performance of the almost $900 PS5 Pro (almost $900 US with disk drive, stand, and tax). Lmao.

"Mark Cerney" is Dana Carvey's best new recurring character he's had in the last 20 years.
I’m not sold on a 56 minute video over a 9 minute video.
lol
This thing is too much money, $700 for a console is insane, and when you think about it, the damn thing has a cpu bottle neck, so every game that runs bad because of the cpu won’t run better because the cpu is the damn same
Immediately after you asked, “But is it $700 good?” I hear an ad go off like, “I just saved $700 with Liberty Mutual!” I was only listening, so I thought you had memed it in, but after I realized it was an actual ad, I died. I’m dead now.
Sony literally has no games to justify this price.
Ikr 😂
If only that had full backwards compatibility with this and a disc drive, then they could justify this price
I’d totally buy the value for full b/c with PSone, PS2, PS3. I’d even go as far as buying an attachment for PSP b/c (UMD reader).
To not inclue the cheap plastic stand the disc drive at that price point is criminal.
The only way this console would be worth it for me is if it was 600$ and came bundled with GTA6.
So you'll instead play GTA VI at 30fps. Sweet.

When has a pro version of a console ever been worth buying, I don’t understand why they even make them
Yup, and 60 fps was supposed to be standard.
And if people buy and support this and it does well. It sets a precedent for the PS6 to start at 700$ and it’s Pro Version will be 900$ or something crazy
Heres a kicker, here in canada buying digitally on ps store is actually more expensive then just buying physical!! And digital games are still taxed!!

They do that with their hands because they are naturally inclined to make a pointing gesture but their speaking coach told them that pointing makes them look aggressive. So they force themselves to keep the index finger curled while gesturing.
I was always shouting to hills "consoles playing games at 4k and 60fps is basically a lie" way back when this shit came out the first time. People are dum
Every single game could play 4k and 60fps. If they were made with that in mind. They aren’t.
I was actually thinking of getting a second PS5. I will probably go the Slim route.
😂 I'm waiting for Sony to tell me to get a 2nd Job.
as they're bragging they're going to take vidgaming out of the "ghetto." Very fine people at SCEA.
20% is generous
@@Blast1314 That is what the ratio was apparently according to reports. I have to specify, the 20% was after the release of the pro model and not overall numbers.

@27:48 try the converter between US and Australia - it pushes the price for Aussies to over $1000 and then some.
For me I’m getting it for the holiday. And I found a stand that better. It thicker and all white with led lights. 😅
Apparently, people do not understand why Sony decided to price the device at such an exaggerated price. It is trying to prepare the world from now on, so that when their next device is released in 2027, its price will be very close to the current price of the Pro, and perhaps more.
Baked lighting > ray tracing.
Native resolution > upscaled (which is needed *because* of ray tracing, so again another reason why baked lighting is better).

This is simple if you want the best version of GTA 6 day one you'll buy a PS5 Pro, if not well keep playing on standard PS5.
I used to build my own PC back in the days however I found myself using it less and less because now it's super common to have a fully spec'ed out macbook pro for work and I do everything on it except for gaming. It doesn't make sense for me to keep a separate rig for gaming. So playing games on console just saves so much hassle
If you look at it. 67% GPU performance update, 2TB SSD, and Proprietary 3X Ray-tracing made by Sony and AMD. price to performance may be about right. but no disk drive is crazy.

799€ without the vertical stand, without a blu-ray disk drive - that puts it dangerously close to a gaming PC, leaving only PS5 exclusives as an incentive to get one.
For 800 euro you can build the following PC:
CPU: Ryzen 5 5600
GPU: Radeon RX 6750XT 12GB
Motherboard: ASROCK B550M-HDV /AM4
RAM: KINGSTON 2X16GB DDR4 3200 Mhz

The problem isn't the hardware it's the software... they just want to utilize more advanced hardware so the CPU will do I the work (brute force all the code) what they should focus on is making fully optimized games and utilizing the current hardware to it's full potential...

Thank you for saying it Luke by supporting this we’ve accepted “expect more get less” as consumers
