I don't care if Ben doesn't prepare or even watch the reviewed movie, he's a great part of the conversation. Alonso and Christy seem to give the meat of the emotive and cinematographic reviewal, and Matt gives us the straight-talking 'it's a rotten tomato'. I love these reviews
BowditchXD its all opinion, they see lots of movies and are literallly paid to criticize. i thought it was pretty good too, but what they said made sense, lotsa stuff isnt explained or just glossed over.
Yes. But does that make it a bad movie? These are nitpicks. Just because a movie doesn't explain something doesn't mean it's a bad movie. They're tearing a film apart because of nitpicks, while they will praise any piece of art house trash out there. I'm not giving them a pass on this. It's happened too many times. (with all LA critics)
BowditchXD dude....get over it. who cares if they dont agree with you. you're right, these critics criticizing it doesnt make it a bad movie.... and they didnt really "tear it apart" they mentioned it had a lot of things to like, but was messy. in the end they gave it a 6 which isnt a bad score. just because some critics didnt like something doesnt mean you cant. a critics opinion is just that, an opinion, not an objective judgement that cannot be argued with.
+sawadee2000 I don't understand why that makes you glad not to be a film critic. According to the Tomatometer score shown in this review, 55% of Rotten Tomatoes critics gave it a positive review. That's not enough for a Fresh rating, but it's a pretty large group.
That dynamic they discussed where Young Clooney fell in love with the little girl robot and knows her as an adult was tackled in Darren Shan's The Demonata series too, this old magician in the 14th century when he was a child fell in love with Bec when they were both 14 and he grows up to become this centuries old magician and she gets frozen in time and they meet up again in the modern day and its all kinds of awkward.
Ummm... having seen this movie I will say that you guys said WAY too much about this movie. If you do that, you should mention that your review will include spoilers
I really enjoyed this movie. However, I really hoped that they would mention Religion, as one of the distractions that is bringing down the world. All my friends said the same thing... It's a Disney movie, No Way would they ever come close to that, but I just wish they had. When Hugh Laurie was talking about the apocalypse, and all the people wishing it would happen just so they wouldn't have to think. I was squirming in my chair muttering, "Just say Religion, Just Say Religion" But they didn't... oh well. I really like this movie. More people should see this flick with an open mind, but that might be asking too much. :(
I suppose as a non religious person myself I did see it more clearly, but even a couple of my christian friends who saw the movie immediately knew what I was talking about when I mentioned Tomorrowland and religion. Even in this review they were talking about humanity being distracted and apathetic, but there was no specific root cause or solution. Other than little children and hope. But that's my point. I wish this movie had gone farther. I with this movie named names, called out Real Specific Distractions that humanity faces now in 2015.
***** Oh I'm not saying Religion is the main reason why human beings are distracted. I wouldn't say there is any 1 thing that is keeping humanity done as a whole. As Hugh Laurie went on his "Bad guy" rant. He mentioned many distractions that keep people down. I would have just added, Religion, and Corporate Control.
OriginalTharios Well Hitler is one of the worst human beings ever so yes I wouldn't read it. Even though I have seen Triumph of The Will. Whatever bad comparison you made
I loved this movie. Want to see it again for the visual details. Thought the whole story blended together very well. A great film with a nice positive message. Totally would recommend this film!!!!!
I think Matt reviews movies the way the average person would and I like him for it, he's the farthest thing from pretentious. Alonso is really smart and he goes deep into why he does or does not like a film. Ben is solid but I wish he would watch all of the films they review. I don't have a lot of love for Christie as a film critic but she's fun to watch.
Saw Tomorrowland this afternoon, WTF's review is from an adult point of view- shall I remind you that it is rated PG, therefore is written for an audience of pre-teens. So with that I think its well done & worth seeing (take your kids).
Movies are in a big blockbuster era and generally are superhero movies. Ben is an adult and if Hollywood still made 30-50 million dollar movies for adults. You'd probably see more enthusiasm out of him.
Well I'm not talking about enthusiasm, he doesn't have to like all the movies. I just think that it's part of work ethics to watch the movie you are reviewing when this is your job.
Well, I think it's sort of important to have someone who doesn't watch every movie and can ask questions someone who are on the fence on a movie might ask before stepping into it and those answers can be reason they end up going and just helps give an overall picture
moreanimalspirits They want to get to Tomorrowland because they have hope for the future it offers. That is their motivation to go there, the driving force behind everything they do.
robotpanda77 The point I was making is that their journey was a simple chase scene that had nothing in it. No hope. No character. Just a lot of confusing nonsense. Typically, character and story reveal things about the characters to give us hope. For example, in the Lord of The Rings we learn about Sam's loyalty to Frodo, or Frodo's empathy to Gollum - all of which provide some modicum of hope. In the chase scene to Tomorrowland, we don't really learn anything about the characters that give us hope about the future - which theoretically involves global warming, nuclear war, whatever. Instead we find that Clooney can rid a teleporter to France, and knows how Edison helped build a rocket to another dimension. And that the little girl robot can drive. So, the story was not 'about' hope. No one discovered anything about hope. No solutions. No politics. No technology. The love story between Clooney and the Robot girl was not even important to the story - except at the very end when the story and plot break down into an utter absurdity. And may I say something about robot girl? Why in the world did she pretend she was a human, by smiling and flirting with the young Clooney? Is it because the screenwriters didn't know she was robot until the end of the movie? There is a good story in here, I think. Imagine if the story followed Clooney all the way from Tomorrowland to the present. Now *that* would have been interesting. You would see the decline and fall of our current society and it's views of it's future. You can show his alienation from both the Robot girl and Tomorrowland. You could make the isolation of Tomorrowland completely reasonable.
The trailer is kinda misleading because I was thinking this is another Narnia, Alice in Wonderland, or Oz type of movie where the movie spend most time on the journey to get there. i dont recommend you to bring kids because the kids in my theater got so bored they started to become very noisy.
Why is this dude on the left doing movie reviews? He never seems to actually see any of the movies you guys are talking about. If he a boss guy or something? A host?
+MisterTutor2010 No, it's kind of the AntiAtlas Shrugged. Galt wanted to stop the motor of the world so his elitists could rule, the protagonists in this want to jump start if for everyone. The heavy is basically a John Galt character. Loved the film
What the shit? Alonso was dogging this movie the whole time... 6.8? Christy was the same 5 Matt was trying to explain the movie, but still gave the appearance that he didn't like it... 6.5? What the shit?
Ben shouldn't be in the show if he didn't see the movie... better yet, any reviewer who did not see the movie should stay off camera and give more face time to those who have seen the movie and produce a more thorough review.
I have to say yeah I still going to see it but people have said go learn about Walt Disney then see this movie I mite be wrong And I'm just going to say now where not in 2003 because everyone thinks this movie has to kinda be like the incurables but things change from 2003 to 2015 I would think that BB mite think about some else in meaning a famous movie does not have to be a keep going thing in different franchisees
U still will not know much about the place after you see it. The movie was horribly paced. What you see in the trailer is everything good about the movie. These reviewers need to put a "spoiler" sign in the title.
I didn't see this movie - Ben Mankiewicz
Pulsar77 He always watch some of the movies they review every week.
The man has cataract, give him a break
It didn't see because there was no incest porn
Pulsar77
Yeah, almost every goddamned time
StupidWizardFilms I don't blame him. I wouldn't watch it either unless there was incest porn.
Once again I am pleased NOT to be a film critic! I saw Tomorrowland in Imax. I enjoyed it.
These guys were way too harsh on this film. It was definitely not as bad as they said it was.
BowditchXD its all opinion, they see lots of movies and are literallly paid to criticize.
i thought it was pretty good too, but what they said made sense, lotsa stuff isnt explained or just glossed over.
Yes. But does that make it a bad movie?

The real Tomorrowland is found in Mad Max: Fury Road.
OriginalTharios I'll be dead long before that.
Chris Oliver Or of course, Tomorrow-morrow land which is way beyond Thunderdome.
lol You, Chris, are the kind of person this film was talking about. Unbelievable.
+Chris Oliver You're not getting a pin
I took my daughter to see this today, and it is my second favorite Disney movie with jet packs - only behind The Rocketeer.
The Rocketeer was Disney?!!
Lindeloff: Man, this is way more intense than I thought. Friends, can you help me?
Kurtzman & Orci: Sure!
Ummm... having seen this movie I will say that you guys said WAY too much about this movie. If you do that, you should mention that your review will include spoilers

I also have to say this movie also had a big ad for Greyhound in the middle too.
6:47 "they kind of dropped the ball"? They literally dropped a ball in the movie. Lawl. I really want to love this movie
Cowritten by Damon Lindeloff. Well I'm not seeing it.
OriginalTharios Well Hitler is one of the worst human beings ever so yes I wouldn't read it. Even though I have seen Triumph of The Will. Whatever bad comparison you made
OriginalTharios What the hell does this have to do with a movie cowritten by a hack?
OriginalTharios Everything he's associated with is disappointing despite unique ideas. That's why I am not watching this
StupidWizardFilms But he wrote Prometheus, which is a masterpiece that's loved by all and absolutely in no way whatsoever disappointing ;)
You're my favorite reviewer Matt!
I loved this movie. Want to see it again for the visual details. Thought the whole story blended together very well. A great film with a nice positive message. Totally would recommend this film!!!!!
I agree this was such a Huge Disappointment. Nothing but Style over Substance. C+
I think Matt reviews movies the way the average person would and I like him for it, he's the farthest thing from pretentious. I kinda liked the movie. It agree with Christly that it was best before they went to Tomorrowland, but i was totally in for the Whole ride.
Saw Tomorrowland this afternoon, WTF's review is from an adult point of view- shall I remind you that it is rated PG, therefore is written for an audience of pre-teens. So with that I think its well done & worth seeing (take your kids).
The cynic in me says This is a movie ad announcing impending Disney's Tomorrowland update.
Does Ben prepare stuff for this show at all?
Movies are in a big blockbuster era and generally are superhero movies. Ben is an adult and if Hollywood still made 30-50 million dollar movies for adults. You'd probably see more enthusiasm out of him.

It is a story about HOPE, which somehow rather irritates negative people.
No, the story is about three people trying to get to Tommarowland. Hope is just some exposition thrown in at the end.
moreanimalspirits

What's also going to hurt is that they hardly showed anything (plot wise) in the trailers. This one looks like a dud.
I liked that they brought up the disney aspect on the review.
How is Incredibles like the Fountainhead?
The trailer is kinda misleading because I was thinking this is another Narnia, Alice in Wonderland, or Oz type of movie where the movie spend most time on the journey to get there. i dont recommend you to bring kids because the kids in my theater got so bored they started to become very noisy.
I love all four of you guys! :)
The fact that this played two screening rooms from Mad Max: Fury Road for me makes me laugh my ass off.
This is unfortunate. I've been really looking forward to this movie and now so many negative reviews.
Could you guys just have one studio and stick with it!?
I'll watch it for free when it hits the Internet
You guys spoil little plot details without even realizing it and its really annoying and takes away from the experience going into the movie
Has Ben even seen 1 movie this year? Why doesn't he watch movies anymore?
I seem to be the only one who really liked this movie. I thought it was really good.
I like it because of history of it don't worry your not the only one
I'm so meh about this. I don't know if I even wanna watch it. Ever.
I just got back from watching it. Don't see it. It's depressing, illogical and a failure.
Not to be confused with Tomorrow-morrow land, which is where Captain Walker takes you :)
No offense Christy, Alonso, and Matt, but Ben is God.
Why is this dude on the left doing movie reviews? He never seems to actually see any of the movies you guys are talking about. If he a boss guy or something? A host?
The point of the film titled, "Tomorrowland", is about the fact that "The Local Kosmos truly is just Greek Pagan".
The IAU is positioned in the country of France & is detriment to the total global population.
The Local Kosmos truly is just Greek Pagan.
"The Pen offered the dumbass: Not much."
Greek Paganism truly is the most congruent global cultural expression.
Little kids are not given the right to vote about calculus, not actually.
It's not appropriate to tolerate 'christianity', not at all.
I can't even remember the last time they loved a movie they saw.
*****
I only watch their reviews for movies that I want to see. I guess we just don't like the same movies.
Sounds like they were hoping Clooney's charm could cover some of the plot holes. I guess not.
I really struggled to pay attention to this movie. It didn't make any sense or hold my interest. It did remind me of Atlas Shrugged.
I hated this movie because they purposely kept in the dark. And then, when you found out what was going on, it makes no sense.
way too many spoilers in this review. stopped watching
...but it would not make sense if Clooney was dating someone his own age, would it?
Atlas Shrugged? The movie doesn't seem mean spirited enough.
+MisterTutor2010 No, it's kind of the AntiAtlas Shrugged. Galt wanted to stop the motor of the world so his elitists could rule, the protagonists in this want to jump start if for everyone. The heavy is basically a John Galt character. Loved the film
Atlas shrugged isn't "mean spirited"... which is just a meaningless SJW insult, anyway.
I enjoyed the film. Made it made me remember when it was my first time I went to the Disney theme parks.
I personally think Brad brid should stick with animation. But good for him wanting to branch out.
What the shit?
Alonso was dogging this movie the whole time... 6.8?
Christy was the same 5
Matt was trying to explain the movie, but still gave the appearance that he didn't like it... 6.5?
What the shit?
i really liked this. the last 30 sec could be cut, but yeah i loved this. best movie of the year so far.
Damon Lindelof strikes again???
So Ben is paid for his looks?
Booster Gold For his mere presence, since he obviously doesn't review any movies for this channel. :)
I agree
Ben shouldn't be in the show if he didn't see the movie... better yet, any reviewer who did not see the movie should stay off camera and give more face time to those who have seen the movie and produce a more thorough review.
Too many spoilers in this review.... I don't care but I think some might.
i would say a 7, it was enjoyable enough ya know and pretty unique.
I agree with Ben, Matt Atchity is smart. :D
I have to say yeah I still going to see it but people have said go learn about Walt Disney then see this movie I mite be wrong
And I'm just going to say now where not in 2003 because everyone thinks this movie has to kinda be like the incurables but things change from 2003 to 2015 I would think that BB mite think about some else in meaning a famous movie does not have to be a keep going thing in different franchisees
Uh, spoilers guys...
Welcome back. this show sucks without Ben and Christy
Exactly how I thought this would be then.
U still will not know much about the place after you see it. The movie was horribly paced. What you see in the trailer is everything good about the movie. These reviewers need to put a "spoiler" sign in the title.
did yall not hear me? the FLASH get on it
More like TomorrowBland, mirite????
+Sotai nope
Seriously Ben? I've no interest anymore for your appearances if you haven't viewed the content being reviewed. What is this but a mere paycheck?
Alonso seems to really ever enjoy anything unless it's ungodly dull.
I personally watch for Matt and Ben XD
I wanted to see this movie but all the reviews are scaring me
I rate the movie a 4 the beginning was okay but the middle just threw me off
So not going to see this.....
So we can certainly say now that Brad Bird is an objectivist ?
Look up Ayn Rand's philosophy.
+Feliciano Frontado nope. this is the absolute inverse of Rand's John Galt. If anything, Governor Nix is Galt, trying to kill the world.
Soon as I saw Damon Lindelof was involved I knew this film would suck.
duhhh Alonzo u gotta feed the correct wolf. so like here's an apple .. *toss*
This movie sounds awesome, :P
Tomorrowland is Terminator for kids...
FULL HOUSE, WOOP WOOP!
So again I have to listen to the annoying guy who didnt even see the movie
Lol 55% and dropping...very depressing
Commercial right away into a obnoxious review ..
Ah old people reviews😴
spoiler filled review
Awsome
This movie looks stupid
