- Hello you tube, it’s Rob from Maxwells Grass Cutting Services based in the North East of England.
Well I have eventually made my mind up and purchased a rear roller Lawn Mower.
Not an easy decision. In this video I discuss the reasons for going with the Honda HRX476QY 19" Roller Mower and why I discarded other brands.
Thank you for watching and supporting the channel.
Please like and subscribe.
Always remember. When the green gold is growing, keep mowing.
Take care.
Rob.
😅 I'm fairly new subscriber and find your content great. Funny though, on watching 1 of your vids from years ago, you stated, "people are not interested in stripes", 😮😅😅, you probably related to quick blowngo jobs when starting. Bought ya a coffee, informative and a canny laugh at the same time. 😊
Thank you .
Hi Rob great that you're pleased with your new mower. You've done your research and it's worked out well for you . Great informative video as usual 👍
Thanks Michael. All the best.
Great Video again, I have had Honda 476qy s, since about 1996. They are good machines for the money and do a lovely cut and the customer's like the finish they give. If I ever get a tip from a customer, it is always with one of the 476s because of the job they do. The only problems with them are the dust and dirt which hang around at the rear chute, but just use your blower to keep it clean, also they get a bit sluggish and slow on the forward drive, just get your lawn repair shop to give it a good adjust on the belt and cables yearly, that keeps my ones going okay. Also they are not good in the wet, but, I am to old and knackered now to go out in the rain, so that is not a problem for me. Also with your high revs setting, when you are emptying the box etc , bring your throttle down, otherwise the engine will slightly rattle if the engine is not working. Otherwise a great mower.
Wise words, thank you for a great comment. All the best.
Nice.. your customers gonna love ya even more 😊👍
Thanks Shaun. All the best.
Hi Rob. Great video.
I bout a honda izy, and like all good hondas, it almost weelies away when I pull up the bar. Very nice little machine. I know you said it was slow, but you're a pro, and I'm a novice.
Thanks for watching and your comment Kev, pleased you like the izy. All the best.
👍 you'll be knocking out the fancy diagonal cross hatch stripes in no time. Good luck with the new mower
Thanks Nathan. Have a great weekend. 👍🏻
Hi Rob my Honda rear roller is over 20 years old and was used in my grass cutting business for 8 years,it’s now only used to cut my lawns at home it has not cost me a penny apart from servicing start first time every time and uses no oil, brilliant mower hope yours gives you as good a service.
Thanks Keith, me and you both . All the best.
Thank Rob. Was looking forward to your rear roller purchase. Well done you really have built up a great business. Honest and to the pointy review.
Thanks Adam, I hope your well. All the best.
Nice finish Rob 👌
I’ve just collected a stihl rm545vr, over the moon with it so far, early days though.
I usually try to stripe perpendicular to the house where possible, I think it makes the lawn look better when viewed from inside 👍
Good luck with the Stihl. I will alternate the stripes. 👍🏻
Best of luck with it Rob, I'm out with the 537 on a few big lawn today👍
Thanks for watching and your comment Ian. All the best, I love the 537👍🏻
Great video about your reasons, don't forget to alternate the stripes on each visit, will look brilliant 👍
I will. Thanks for the tip. All the best.
Rob. You're right about different mowers for different jobs and choosing the right ones for your type of lawns. I always have 2 mowers onboard a 19" Stihl 4 wheel and a 17" Stihl roller, that covers about 95% of my customer base which is small to medium size lawns that do not require heavy difficult to manoeuvre mowers. I do however keep my old 21" Stihl roller for my few larger lawns that would take too long for the smaller mowers. It took me a few years to get to the realisation that big is not necessarily best.
Thanks for a great comment Adam. Me and you both. We live and learn. All the best.
Some said they got a stihl 9 month old and said never been dropped and roller dropped out from it .
I’ve been doing this since 2015 now Rob, still got my original HRX476 but bought a newer one 2 yrs ago. Use my Izy on more lawns, but the 476 is basically priceless. If I’m cutting, I always have both mowers on board
Sound like a good set up. All the best.
Bought a 2003 476 in 2011. Still going strong. Had a new roller, the odd cable, new blade and air filter but that's it really. Not burnt a drop of oil either
That brilliant. I hope my Hondas last as long. All the best.
Rob, great video as ever, many of my customers ask for stripes so I went for a Hyundai sper480 rear roller with electric start (about £400 at time of purchase) . It's almost two years old and going great.
Thanks Barry, good luck with your business.
Well done Rob, you’ve certainly earned your stripes! Keep up the great work 👍
Thanks very much, all the best.
I bet that bought a tear to yer eye when he said a grand 🤣
It always hurts when you spend. However, in business I tell myself that you need to invest to save. 👍🏻
Love the videos class mower rob never owned one what are they like for a finish 👍
The finish is spot on, really like it. Thanks for watching and your comment.
Great video. Keep up the good work.
I just bought the same mower about a month ago. Brilliant piece of kit
Thanks for watching and your comment Jack. Good luck with your new mower.
I wish all places where like the place you got your mower from. The place where I buy from they take your money. Build your machine and your out the door. No customer "experience" at all.
Believe it or not. A 19" mower is the best size for most domestic lawns. Small enough to be manoeuvrable. Unlike some 21" mowers. But bigger so quicker than a 16"
Your right about Weibang tho. Fantastic mowers. I love them. But there heavy! Especially if you go for the shaft drive like I have.
Wise words from a man with experience. All the best Gary. I would buy from a shop that didn’t offer good service. All the best.
I wonder if you could make a video on strimming and edging and what kind of strumming wire to use cheers. Rab
I will Rob, leave it with me. All the best.
Cheers mun
Great video Rob !
Your absolutely right and I was nodding up and down at your video and comments about when you start out and then it’s doesn’t take long until you realise that you need more options for lawn care even my wife watched it and said crikey he sounds like you !!! 😆. I bought a Hayter too after listening to everyone else and sold it after 2 months as it drove me crackers.
Keep mowing !!! 👍
Paul Leicestershire
Thanks Paul. It’s easy to fall into a trap after watching you tube videos.
All the best and good luck with your business.
@@maxwellsgrasscuttingservices
Thanks Rob and to you too !
Best of luck for the season
Paul 👍
Great video. Great content.
I do believe your getting much better at this youtube thingy...🤪💯👍
Thanks Mark, I think I am going backwards.
Hi Rob,
Watched a load of your videos now, you seem like a really good guy, appreciate your videos! I think what you've built up is great, i wish you every success with it! I wondered what strimmer, mower and hedge trimmer you would recommend to something just starting out please? Don't want to buy very expensive kit and can't get jobs etc but equally want decent gear to start. Hard one. Love your input please. thanks
Find a local company that specialises in second hand garden machines. There are a few in the north east and they offer some great deals.
Have a look at Kirkelm Garden Equipment on Facebook. Fingers crossed there might be something similar close by.
Good luck.
That looks absolutely first class Rob
Thanks Wayne, appreciate your positive comment.
Absolutely no problem whatsoever Rob
You can't beat the older Hayter Harrier 56 roller mower with the side engine drive shaft. Lightweight split rear roller and wide grass shoot.
I agree 100%. They are very hard to find.
All the best.
Great channel Rob, just a question, why go across with the stripes would of thought up and down catches the eye better?
As a landscape gardener of 22 years now,if you go in 1 direction all the time the grass ""gets used""to it...Then it becomes harder+harder to cut...Hence the multiple directions to do lawn's....
Take a look a bowling green's or professional football field's etc etc...💯👍
@@markb1487 cheers ,but looks like it's his first time he's stripped that lawn .👍
Your so right. Thanks for watching and your comment.
Thanks for sharing your experience.
hello again mate, can I ask, what mower would you recommend for wet grass? I want a good professional long use mower & don’t mind spending £1000+ if needs be, just so stuck on what to buy, don’t want anything too heavy, four wheeled or roller
Four wheeler for long wet grass. Plastic boxes collect better than canvas. Etesia or Stihl. Go and talk to your local dealer. Good luck,I hope that helps.
Hello Rob i have one of these mowers bought it second hand last year, have a quick question for you do you think the cut height is low on these? seems to cut my grass very short even on the highest setting.
Rear roller mower have a shorter cut hight that for wheel mowers . Some lawns aren’t suitable for them. Fingers crossed regular mowing . Every seven days will sort things out. Thanks for watching and your comment.
Hi mate after a bit of advice..I spoke to you on another video..about people asking me to do their gardens when I've taken my petrol gear around friends and family to sort them out...I'm being made redundant next year and considering going down this route as a job...is it worth it? Is the money OK? What do you do come November when work stops?..I have most of the gear as it is...I've even done a college course on chainsaw use....just for something to do...just wondered on your thoughts?
Sorry to hear about your redundancy.
Going self employed is a big step only you can decide.
I wish you well on your journey. 👍🏻
Great video again Rob.
Iv been spinning around in circles just recently trying to choose a new roller mower. I think I’m going for a masport. Did you look at them? It’s either masport or Honda for me.
Thanks for watching and your comment. There isn’t a local dealer. So I went for the Honda. All the best.
iv had 675 masport mower for 10 years still going strong and just brought a masport 800 al sp pro very pleased with it would definitely recommend im sure they do similar with a roller
As a home hobby gardener just looking in..is slower for you boys to put strips in and do you change the technic how you do the lawns?
Putting stripes down can take a little longer. Some customers prefer them. All the best.
Rob are your charging customers more money for laying down stripes ? You see with mow and go I can't justify paying the money for a roller mower as mow and go customers just want the basics, but on the other hand I would stand out from my competion as I know there is no lawn service company laying down stripes in my city so I think that's gonna be by next move Rob roller mower and a edging tool for my km131r stihl combi unit, that Honda a yours Rob you'd recommend it ?
I do like the Honda. I don’t charge extra for laying down stripes.
It gets used on selective lawns as some are too big or too rough.
It’s a vanity mower.
If you don’t need it, keep the money in your pocket. All the best.
@@maxwellsgrasscuttingservices I hear you Rob only for the well manicured lawns will the roller mower get used 👍
Exactly. I use the Honda hrx537 most of the time. 👍🏻
Hi Rob, where did you get your body warmer from. The ones I’ve seen don’t look practical
Go outdoors, then sent it to my uniform man for the badge. The make is peter storm. Good luck.
i am about to try a viking mower, second hand as after wrecking a brand new mower on its 1st trip out,i no longer buy new mowers,
Good luck with the Viking. Good mowers. Stihl bought them out. 👍🏻
I have one Rob I got it for £180 second hand. I only use it here and there.
Thanks for watching and your comment. I am going to try and use this more regularly. All the best.
Hello mate! Where do you get your custom/branded clothing for the business? Sorry if you've been asked before! Thank you.
A local uniform shop in Blaydon . Tyne and Wear. 👍🏻
Hi Rob, the 19in mower in that range is probably the best one, didn't you have the 17in one or was that someone else ? Looking good those stripes 👌
Thanks Jason. I sold the 16 inch. It was too slow . All the best.
Nice lines mate, great cut there.
Thanks David, appreciated.
Hard to move away from Honda they just keep going health to use it Rob
Thanks Marcus. Agree with you 100%.👍🏻
I call it the horrible hater. You will love your new Honda. It is capable of almost anything... the 21 inches even better
Thanks Daniel. All the best.
Is this a push or self-propelled mower Rob?
Keep well clear of the Honda SP Pro. 21'' very expensive and very heavy.
I barely got ten months work out of two of them,...a terrible waste of money.
Traction/gear box problems due to too heavy grass bag load especially early season wet weather.
Thanks for the advice Lenny. The hrx is self propelled. 👍
Cracking stripes
Thanks Brian. All the best.
Great mower Rob. You won’t go wring with a Honda. Is the roller steel or plastic?
Steel rear roller .All the best.
Yep, one mower and you break down and you're stuffed. I have four mower's at the moment and they all get used for different lawns through out the week. You always need to adapt and have back up.🙄
Couldn’t agree more Andrew. One mower doesn’t fit all gardens.
Thanks for watching and your comment.👍🏻
@@maxwellsgrasscuttingservices How do you feel about the Honda now after some time with it? I've got the older version Honda, which although reliable and well made only, I feel gives a reasonable cut. I also have a larger more powerful (but costing half the price of the Honda) McCulloch, which although the drive is piss poor the cut is always amazing and seems to last between visits better. Does the increase in rev's give a better cut but were you worried about the engine getting too hot?🤔😎
I use the Honda hrx 537 21 inch. An amazing four wheel mower.
The Honda 476 rear roller is doing a great job. Yes it’s expensive. I believe that I will get value from it over time.
👍🏻
Not a real fan of the rear roller mower to be honest I have a hayter 41 if any one ever asks for it but they never have it gets a few outings but generally I just stick to me 4 wheeler... What's next on the shopping list 😀👍🍺
Thanks for watching and your comment, nothing on the list, need to stop spending. 👍🏻
@@maxwellsgrasscuttingservices battery strimmer or blower ..they will blow your mind ... No hassle no mess no servicing 😀👍
Made a nice job did that!!
Thanks Trevor. All the best.
Just a little bit of advice don’t buy expensive tools because one day someone will come to your van and remove them
And then you’ve lost all that money
Security and loss of equipment is an issue/ worry.
You need good reliable equipment to be able to run a successful business.
All the best.
I am a professional gardener and I have a professional company and I’m also working by myself and yet I still earn over £80,000 a year
Pleased for you Chris. Good luck for the season.
Don’t get me wrong I’m not a Karen
I never told the customer I’m putting the price up I just invoice them with the new price and let them call me most of the time they don’t call me they just pay
One thing I’ve learnt over the last 30 years is that people will pay you your hourly rate, you profit by selling things to customers when I buy something if it cost me £5 depending on what it is I will sell it for 15 The customer has a choice to buy it themselves if they leave it to me to get it I will always up the price
I know when you buy compost for people you can’t do that because there is a limited price for compost but I buy the compost as cheap as possible I always add £2 a bag if they want more than 10 bags then I asked them to order it and get it delivered
Because I don’t wanna break my van to earn a little bit of extra money
As you probably know when your van brakes down it cost you a fortune to repair
Good luck in the future
Thanks Chris. All the best.
Nice
Thanks.
You need to stop doing these vids mate, already bought a stihl mower and the leaf grabbers because of them 🤣🤣
Sorry Dean. The Darlac leaf grabber is the best £25 I have ever spent.
