Milwaukee lawncare whole line is kick ass and if you already have Milwaukee power tools it’s a no brainer.
You really need the XGT Makita mower with 8ah batteries and the high lift blade. I returned the mower you're testing couldn't be happier with the XGT model.
Interesting, thank you for your feedback 👍🏼
I bought the 19-inch Makita XGT 40v just over a week ago. In Australia, we are lucky we get the better quad swing back blades (better mulch over bar blade and has 4 high lift blades). I dismissed Makita LXT when looking at electric mowers due to bad reviews. The ramp up was too slow, and safety cut off kicked in under load and having to manual change key swap batteries. Wanted Milwaukee initially. Great ergonomics but needs two huge batteries expensive run and poorer blade choice/cut height. AS Motor looks awesome, but it should at triple the price of the competition.
Tool store showed me the new XGT (which I looked passed as I thought it was another LXT line). It only needs 1 battery to run and auto swaps on 2. Two 8 ah batteries last hours on maintenance mow. Instant ramp up and plenty of torque in long thick grass. Never stalled. Commercial build quality and that tiny exit chute never clogged and compacts that bag 100% full. The only niggle for me is higher cost of Makita (quality build) and no indicator on mower of battery charge left. There is a red-light battery indicator when flat but you need to lift hood and manually check on battery for how much charge is left (Not difficult).
The difference between the LXT and XGT is night and day.
A great part 2 James! That Milwaukee mower is a beast!! The STIHL is also showing why it is good to invest in a big battery!
Thanks Garrett! Hope you are well brother 👍🏼
You can't beat a clean deck, great second part lads
Thank you Robbie 👍🏼
The Makita xgt 40v is at least one par with the Milwaukee mower. That's the one you should test
Thank you for doing this! Subscribed. There’s one more test that would be very helpful, which mower has the best lift.
Hey guys love your videos. Keep up the good work. It’s fun to watch you two
Thanks Spencer 👍🏼
The AS motor is the winner for me, from aesthetics to power 💯
Thanks Jordan 👍🏼
Either EGO is being conservative with its power and torque figures, or Milwaukee is exaggerating theirs! Well done to EGO regardless!
Great video,very informative 👍🏼
Thank you Hooper’s 🤩🥳
Cool review and test of all machines.
Thank you Neil 🤩
Hi James Again nice One all look good like that A S motor the grass in the last 2 tests looks like some lawns I mow 🤣🤣 Regular Jobs😀😀 Have a good weekend Thanks
Thank you Darran, yeah I bet 😂😂
Thanks James. The only thing I missed was the pricing. I might have missed it but I didn't here any prices. Otherwise great demonstration. 👍
Thank you. Sorry, I didn’t mention pricing in this one as the variants with different batteries and then only makes for a confusing piece 👍🏼
Great Review! The Makita is underpowered and Makita brand mowers are discounted and they come with 4 batteries (Residential). The Stihl that you have is not in Canada/USA yet, hopefully soon. Nice 👍 work.
Thank you Wednesday. I would like to try another Makita to confirm. We have domestic video coming up soon!
@@MachineryNation This model of makita is a mistake and makita misleading
I’m never going electric unless I have to. Gas only for me. I love the Honda self propelled. But I live in NC in the US.
Try one, they are super fun!
Great video. Clearly shows the issues in design with cut and drop, the Makita, Milwaukee and Toro all seem to have tight grass flaps (with no bag on) so no grass can go through unlike the others, esp the AS which did very well, those narrow wheels with that weight on soft lawns looks like a tram maker in the making. What kw ratings are all these mowers?
Thank you for your feedback Greg 👍🏼
As looks the most capable closely followed by the toro. For me and probably others I’d have to go with what I’m already invested in. For me that’s Stihl. It will be a investment and the big battery I can power the rest of my kit. Great review of all of them.
Thanks SGM we really appreciate you feedback.
They are all good machines James, you have done a great demonstration and review with them, but its a shame about the makita , but my choice would be the AS Motor cuts good and the handlebar set up looks well designed, really good video well done👍
Thanks Nev, I really appreciate your feedback 🤩
Could you please give us a price list for the configurations you trialed? 😉
Hayter 48 Pro, better and cheaper with change left for a few pints 💪 If I was forced to pick one it would be the Toro
Will EGO release a standalone version of that dual-battery motor? I'd love to re-power my GRIN PM53 with it.
Totally agree. It would be a great replacement for the Briggs and Stratton 850 and the Honda 160cc 😉
We had to return our Makita, it always ran out of battery. Our Stihl works fine.
I hope the mono handle Stihl comes to America
Can you do next lawn mower line up with worx and ryobi? 40v line if possible ^^
Great stuff, but I got to say, the last test wasn't ideal. The Stihl jammed up, but you kept it flat to the ground. With the others you pivoted them on the rear wheels a bit, which always helps mowers in thick stuff.
That said, the AS Motor was still clearly the most powerful by a looong way
Yeah I agree I didn’t tip it up, but I only tipped the others up where there were clumps of grass and the Stihl did not make it that far. Thank you for your feedback 👍🏼
i would expect those results from milwaukee and makita. Milwaukee focused on power and performance, and makita focused on heavy duty, quality, & reliability, usually leaving performance & power second. The Toro is probably the closest to gas mower experience, and i would imagine most commercial mowers using the Toro or Stihl
The problem with that mower i would say is the blade for the bagging if it had a high lift blade it be interesting to see how it gets on
To be fair the blade was not much of a different design to the others 👍🏼
@@MachineryNation well thats fair enough i run john deere mowers with the fan and a high lift blade the pack a bag like its a bale i always repower my mowers after 4 yrs work
@@noelcahill6707 Yeah a high lift blade is awesome, to same for the Weibangs. It makes such a difference 👍🏼
@@MachineryNation the honda blade system with a fan would be the best for british and irish lawns as a contractor alot of the equipment we get is for the yanks or mainland europe our grass is alot better then theres alot of mowers struggle
I used the Makita commercial it's way underpowered it's not that certain machine the xlm06-the connect x line isnt ergonomic out in the field as well as it takes awhile to get through tough spots I switched to Milwaukee it's the best ergonomiclly if you doing a gardening maintenance route
Which model lawn mowers are these?
What does "more professional than commercial" mean?
I don't think I'll ever be using a mower commercially so for me I'd go with Makita, I have about 10 5ah batteries so it just makes sense for doing my lawn
I have to use 14x6.0 Ah to move 800m2 off grass Makita is ridiculous scrap
You need to compare the AS against the EGO
Great idea! The EGO is not a commercial mower so wouldn’t really compare fairly.
@@MachineryNation I know, but it would be nice to see what the difference between a decent domestic mower Vs a commercial one is.
Is it really worth the price difference???.
Ego's top of the line residential mowers runs a 1200watt motor, whereas the AS motor mower is running a 3.2kw(peak) EGO beast 💪🏾
Deck design is another Major factor. I've found that Ego's newer mowers have a shallower deck, making it worse for processing tall grass. Their 18" model is probably the best/closest to being ready for the commercial user, or any user in this case 😁
AS mower has very deep deck, helping with grass processing.
I want one, but it's gonna cost an arm and a leg to get it to NZ 😢
What is mulching?
Great comparison but where’s the Ego?
The Ego is domestic and the others are classed as commercial.
They have not yet released a commercial mower. But watch this space as I have my fingers crossed they will soon!
EGO themselves don't have a commercial mower, but they do warranty their equipment with a 1yr commercial warranty. I love it 💪🏾
If they can't fix it, they'll give you a new one 😉
Stihl is roughly 3 times the price of a Milwaukee around here ...
But we is the price comparison, these machines are not on the same price levels, you dont have to give pricing, just in relation to the cheapest one
None of the grass was very long or dense.
I would want actual run time testing not calculated the two times are well known for being very different!
gold old ego tough it out used it in a hayfield of a garden and laughed at it done better than petrol
Have you tried that Russell?
@@MachineryNation yes better than petrol
lm21 made mince meat of it
I heard glowing reports of ACTIVE nee HARRY Lawnmower brand, thoughts>?
not including the EGO mower?
Not commercially rated😉
Why are the so noisy, one would think with an electric motor they would be very quiet.
Odd that this video is not that old but you didn't do the Makita XGT. It is a much better mower.
I agree, we asked all manufacturers to send us a machine each and Makita sent this one 🤷🏼♂️
Swatching this and the first thought was stop turning the mower over the oil, the petrol, then second thought was , shut up you dinosaur. Using them commercially would require a lot of batteries and chargers at night to recharge. And that's only the mower. Now count in a strimmer, hedgecutter and blower. The garage would need a bank of chargers. And a zillion sockets.
I'm running EGO commercially, started with 3 EGO batteries and could mow 8 lawns before calling it a day 😉
Ps. I invested in a 2000(4000 peak) watt inverter and a 300ah 12v lifepo4 battery so I could charge on the go 😁 I've now built up my battery collection and have 15 differing sizes and still run the inverter and lifepo4. A full 8hr day of mowing is a breeze 💪🏾
@@jordanharetuku9044 some of my gardens are cut once a month and are mulched. I would love to borrow a decent battery mower to have a go. It's taken me a few different types of mower to get the right ones for what I do. I wouldn't want to go down the road of buying battery mowers to see which ones are suitable. Cheers for the info and let's look forward to the spring, without snow!!!
I dont think there is anything wrong with the makita, its just not quite good enough. Just like their other mowers down in the range they just haven’t been impressive compared to the competition. I would disagree with ego the brand not having a commercial mower as most of their high end mowers are on par if not better than the ones shown in the video (maybe with exception to the AS motors)
Interesting, thank you for sharing 👍🏼 EGO were happy not to be in this test but might be in this video in the future 😉
I wouldn't use a battery mower if it was free.
Shame, they are quite fun 👍🏼
my sheep is more bio
You mr sheep is bio?
Could I humbly suggest to stop calling the EGO motor an engine … many people don’t have the mechanical understanding that you have and this just’s confuses people whose expertise may not be in this area.
Additionally, energy density of a lithium battery is nowhere near fuel … so saying it’s just like a petrol or diesel car under load is not accurate. Fuel has around 40 times more energy per kilogram than lithium!
There’s plenty of basic evidence of this when you see equivalent tow tests of EV pickups, or the Tesla semi or Nuremberg race track where Tesla’s “Fastest car” only just scraps into the top 100 factory cars.
Edit:
I should say this was an excellent review!
Thanks for the feedback.
If they don’t understand that this is a battery mower video and me saying “I call it the EGO engine” then they should not be anywhere near a mower 😂😂
My comparison between fuel and battery is based on how hard something is used. Thus reducing the time it will last. True in both cases!
All I get from your feedback is fault can be found if you look hard enough 🤦🏻♂️😂 there are more important mistakes than this lol.
My sincere apologies if you mistook my humble suggestions as offensive … I think you present exceptionally well and have certainly lifted the bar for entertaining videos on outdoor equipment.
I was only trying to gently make a suggestion that calling a motor an engine, or engine a motor doesn’t help what your trying to do in the education of outdoor equipment … it also frustrates engineers, just like it would frustrate a landscaper with 10 years experience listening to a novice!
Energy density:
Once again this was not to insult you, just a humble suggestion brought on by an observation I have from people complaining about battery mowers and reduced run times Vs Gas … not many people appreciate that wet grass, blunt blades, hot days, or buffalo grass Vs couch have a much larger impact on battery mowers than gas. Ego receives a large amount of calls on battery life warranties and they will always ask about blade condition etc - people always respond that they never had this problem with gas.
Your fine channel could do a video on the importance of blade condition or grass condition for battery mowers. My own experiences have found that in very long grass you can nearly double your battery life if you attack it twice at two levels - Gas mowers due to 40 times more energy density are simply not affected as much.
Once again, sorry if you found my post offensive, it was not meant to be.
@@garageblitztv3215 you didn’t offend me George, I really appreciate your feedback! Hence the emojis. I just hope people are not that thick to think it’s an “Engine” 😂 some more great points George, thank you 🤩
I have DLM532 and is it rubbish, rusty, low power and performance, and poor bag filling lawnmower don't buy this never
