Always feel sorry for Elia Martell, being marry to Rhaegar to only be with another woman, and then being killed by the mountain along with her kids.
It’s mostly likely she fully agreed to annul her marriage to Rhaegar, I think at some point it’s mentioned they were never in love, but were very good friends, and if she supported Rhaegar in his belief of the dragon must have 3 heads then I wouldn’t be surprised if she also agreed and even encouraged him to find someone else to bear his third and most important child
I don't think he anul the wedding he just took another wife since the targs have done it in the past, it makes even more sense if the show is right and they got married in dorne as well since there it is not looked down on @@lucasbelmonte2832

I think it’s more likely that Elia wanted her kids away from the game of thrones! She was a great Mother & likely wanted them safely away from the crown.
She probably knew and agree for Rhaegar to have more children since she could not give him 3 heads of the dragon

True. Elia's second pregnancy left her bedridden for nearly a year. And it was a hard time in the royal family. But Rhaegar needed a 3rd child for the prophecy, you know 'the dragon must have 3 heads' thing. So, he picked Lyanna for a 3rd kid at the tourney. And Lyanna who was desperately trying to avoid a marriage to Robert, would have taken Rhaegar's offer.
But there's also some hidden backstory that we don't know yet. Rhaegar was also at the time trying to get all the lords to arrange a Great Council, to unseat his father, the Mad King. And Lord Stark was suspiciously absent at the tourney of Harrenhall.

@@Kurfürst-u2p lol, there is absolutely NO evidence to support that. Viserys was already 4 years old by the time Rhaenys was born, let alone her *younger* brother who was born when Viserys was 7. You could argue maybe Daenerys was Rhaegar's daughter, but she has 100% Targaryen features and was born when Viserys was probably 8, old enough to recognise his mother was pregnant. At any rate, what would be the point in saying these hypothetical children of Rhaegar were the children of Aerys? How would that decrease Robert's hard on for killing them? 😂

The thing is, Rhaegar is looking directly at Danaerys when he says "The dragon has three heads". I think it's more so a massage for her, then something that actually took place, or a singh of Rhaegar's plans going foreward. She is witnessing the birth of Aegon (aka Young Griff, regardless if he's really a Blackfyre or not, he has the dragons blood) and is being told that there is one more. That there are two more Targeryians left besides herself. One of wich is Aegon, or a boy pretending/believing himself to be Aegon. And the other is (most likely) Jon Snow.
This is just an incorrect take. Rhaegar in that vision was referring to his son Aegon (with Elia) , not Jon. Rhaegar stated there was no better name for a king about Aegon , at which point Elia asked if R will make a song for him ? and R replies Aegon is the promised prince who already has the song of ice and fire.
RT's understanding of the prophecy / TPtwP seemed to be an evolving process ; first thought it was about himself , then his son Aegon which this scene / vision was referring to and possibly eventually Jon. But the "there must be one more" likely referred to him wanting to complete the three heads of the dragon and his children were recreating / emulating Aegon I & his sister-wives' dynamic. RT even naming them the same names. In the vision which seemed a bit of a two way vision R likely saw Dany who he likely thought was his future daughter , who would complete the third head of the dragon and round out the two girls and a boy , just like Aegon I & his sister-wives.
I always thought that he had seen Daenaerys and came to the conclusion that she was his future daughter/3rd head of the dragon. Hence why he was so confident that Lyanna would birth a daughter and he would name her Visenya. Not knowing that the girl he saw was not his daughter but his sister who hadn't even been conceived yet.

The commenter Alex said in Dany's vision which was likely a two way vision where they saw each other , Rhaegar likely saw Dany and mistakenly thought that was his future daughter, to complete the third head of the dragon. But at that point of the vision he still seemed to think his son Aegon was the promised prince regardless , Dany even witnesses him say as such.
In the show Jon is actually called Aegon and since the show runners had plot information from George r.r. Martin and how common a name it is for Targaryen’s it seems likely that’s what Jon was named Aegon. It could very easily be a reference to Jon and it’s not unlikely if he saw Daenerys he may have seen something else
@@Greebo-ne1sc Jon may or may not end up being named Aegon in the books , to be determined. Its possible but not 100% confirmed. When those reveals / ideas on GoT turned out to be from GRRM / book canon it was normally indicated as such ; especially in the later seasons. Most were clearly defined as coming from D&D or GRRM , like King Bran was from GRRM , Dany's extreme mad turn and Arya killing the NK was not. And Jon's being named Aegon was not clarified as from GRRM but could still be, tbd.
But at the time of this vision Rhaegar was very likely convinced he would have a girl next for his next child , like the original 3 heads of the dragon. And Dany sees baby Aegon with R & Elia in that vision , who R indicates is the prince that was promised and the song of ice and fire when Elia asks him. At the time of the vision that is what R thought and was referring to his son Aegon alive and in front of him in that vision. Plus Targs basically never name brothers the same name , even more so with both alive. So Jon named Aegon (if that happens) would likely occur after the R's older son Aegon is killed and Rhaegar seemingly dead by then as well. He couldn't be thinking at that point that Aegon in front of him is going to die and his next child (who he thought would be a girl anyway) he would also name Aegon.
Everyone despises Rhaegar, but it seems Elia was a good Mum who likely wanted her kids as far away from the game of thrones as possible. I think she was trying to leave the crown & take them safely home to Dorne.
She was. The mad king wouldn’t let her flee back to Dourne because without her Dourne’s allegiance wouldn’t be solidified.

We don't despise Rhaeger because he had a second wife , not even Elia , because Dornish women don't have the purity culture. Rhaeger took all of his best knights to guard Lyanna and his foolishness led to a rebellion and the death of his wife and his kids . What he did was plain stupid. He and Lyanna only needed to inform the Starks " We are eloping and plotting to overthrow this insane king" , and all of this bs could've been avoided. Rhaeger's impulse and foolishness caused great harms . He could've even officially taken Lyanna after overthrowing Aerys .

Exactly, Rhaegar didn’t steal Lyanna because he loved her, but because he needed a son of fire and ice and she was the only female stark at the time. Moreover Lyanna didn’t want to marry Robert and she might have suggested to Rhaegar to abduct her
I think it’s more complicated than that. George is known for making characters more complex. I think Rhaegar did in fact love Lyanna but was also taking the chance to birth one more child. He more than likely saw an opportunity to unite the North and the rest of the realm through his marriage with Lyanna by having two wives. Because there is a theory that the Mad King discovered Lyanna was the Mystery Knight from the Tourney a year previous and ordered for her to be brought to him for punishment, while Rhaegar found out and went to rescue her, possibly to try and prevent a war. However, Brandon screwed things up and we all know what happened from there.

@@tjjordan4207Polygamy is illegal in Westeros, even for the Targaryens. The last polygamous marriage was nearly 300 years before with Maegar the Cruel and that led to a bloody Civil War. Ever since than no Targaryen was foolish enough to touch that topic with a 100 ft pole. Even with their dragons they didn't dare to practice polygamy. Now with the Targaryens at their weakest they've ever been with no dragons and only 2 sane adults, 1 mad king and 3 toddlers they would have to be really stupid to do so.

I think this is a very bad interpretation.
The child Rhaegar is referencing with the prince that was promised is Aegon, the one he is holding. He is referencing him, not Jon Snow, who isn't even born yet.
Also the line "There must be one more" and him looking directly at Dany seems to suggest that he is referencing her, being one of the three heads of the dragon, and Aegon had Rhaenys and Visenya, two women that made the three heads. Aegon's sister was named Rhaenys because of this. Some even suggest that Dany is Rhaegar's child with Lyanna.
The evidence is weak, but not outlandish:
Ned goes INSANE when Robert wants to kill Dany. Ned quits the council and the handship and decides to leave King's Landing that day. It's not a reaction of someone to Robert, it's like Ned personally cares about Dany specifically.
Then there is the fact that Dany's childhood is a contradictory mess. Dany lived in a small stone house on a field with a red door and a lemon tree in her window, but the house is in Braavos where lemontrees cannot grow. But there are many other elements that also make no sense at all.
Many characters, including Jorah, and Barristan who actually knew Rhaegar personally, keep comparing Dany to him. In one dream Dany even dreams that she is Rhaegar, wearing his black and ruby dragon armour, and is riding her dragon against the Others who are invading Westeros across the Trident.
There is always the fact that Viserys detested her in a very odd way, like he secretly knew that she was better than him, being the secret heir to Viserys' brother, not their little sister.
I think the theory goes that Queen Rhaella did actually give birth to a Daenerys, but like most of Aerys' and Rhaella's children, she died. The daughter of Rhaegar then took over her indentity and she was hidden in Dorne, and not the free cities, just to further hide the children from Robert, who wanted them both dead. But It seems to me this is the weakest part of it as it is needlessly convoluted.
Alot of this series is needlessly convoluted. That's a realistic theory. We'll never know though.

@@giulialecce5037 The problem is, we don't have Viserys' point of view, only Dany's and he was a pretty big asshole and could have had whatever reasons to keep information from her and lie to her. And it does not need to be all their childhood, just the period when Dany was small enough to remember the house, the tree, and sick old Ser Willem Darry. Which is probably when she was a toddler, since her memories are so unclear at this stage.
I am not suggesting that Dany is Rhaegar's for certain and that the only place she could have lived in was Dorne. But her backstory is a mess, and full of contradictions.

It’s so clear Rhaegar was talking about HIS Aegon, by Elia as Elia clearly asked Rhaegar for a song for little Aegon, Rhaegar believed himself or little Aegon to be the Prince who was promised and it turned out to be his little sister. GRRM says, the dragons confirm it. She’s the Prince who was promised.

I interpreted that as meaning that Rhaegar had never needed to get involved with Lyanna in the first place, because the intended "third head" of the dragon was his yet-to-be-conceived baby sister.

@@marouakheloui And that's how I feel with Lyanna. They only met once at the tornery of Harrenhal, yet everyone is saying that she automatically fell in love with him. I'm sorry, but this isn't like Romeo and Juliet, were these people take one look at each other and fall in love. I think from that one conversation they had at Harrenhal, Rhaegar knew Lyanna wanted to escape her betrothal with Robert so, he offers her a way out. Saying he can protect her and offer her a place to live/hide and it's not like anyone is going to say anything against it because he's the crown Prince, he could literally ruin their lives if they do. Lyanna sees this as a great opportunity not to get married to Robert and agrees. But, once she gets to the Tower of Joy, she starts putting the puzzle together and realizing what's about to be done to her but, it's already too late. She ends up sexually assaulted and cut off from the rest of the world, not knowing what has happened to her family and eventually gives brith to Jon and dies forcing Ned to promise to protect him.

Not very accurate. Rhaegar thought Aegon, his son by Elia was the prince that was promised. He was trying to recreate the conqueror and his wives, hence he needed the last child Visenya, for which he turned to lyanna. I wonder what would happen if rhaegar managed to live and found much to his disappointment it wasn't a girl, would he go hunting for another northern girl? And why the hell is the order backwards? Visenya was the eldest, then aegon, then rhaenys. Why didn't he just name his elder daughter Visenya?
Maybe he thought that rhaenys would be weak since elia is her mother.

There's so much ablut Rhaegar that we don't know for sure. We have good thwories but even then there is a good gap of time and suspension of belief
I like to think Rhaegar was actually talking about his son with Elia, Aegon, when he said "the prince that is promised". When he says "there must be one more" and sees dany, he literally sees her, but thinks he's seeing his imagined future child with Elia, a daughter who would complete the trio (aegon rhaenys and visenya). At least going off naming, it seems like it was expecting to have a daughter rather than a son, and it fits more with George's style if Rhaegar got the prophesy wrong.

THIS IS ENTIRELY WRONG AND BACKWARDS; I FEEL DUMER FOR LISTENING TO IT. Rhaegar literally said his son, Aegon, with ELIA was the prince that was promised; NOT JON. Rhaegar was trying to recreate Aegon the conqueror and his 2 sisters; “the dragon has three heads”. That’s why his daughter with Elia was called *Rhaenys* and why his son with Elia called *Aegon* (potentially young Griff). He looked at Dany (who was somehow casted through time, in the house of the undying, via visions) and saw a *targaryen girl with no Dornish features* and assumed she was the girl (who he would call *Visenya*) he needed to finish his “trio”, thus completing “the dragon has three heads” prophesy.
Him being obsessed with the prophesy, then seduced Lyanna (who was tomboyish and described to be decent with a sword, like Visenya) to have a his 3rd child (second daughter) who would have a connection with the north (since the white walkers are a northern threat). Rhaegar was dumb/egotistical and believed the saviour will come through his blood line and he never lived long enough to find out his 3rd child wasn’t a girl but a boy, Jon. Him seeing a vision of Dany (a Targaryen girl with no dornish features) made him think he should finish his “trio” with someone out of wedlock and got Jon.
It’s obvious what happened but you’re literally misquoting what was clearly laid out in the book to dick ride Jon for some reason. Jon is a great character but you don’t need to fabricate and misrepresent the text to make him look better.

I feel like L was willing at first. Maybe R suggested to stay at one of his castles for a little while to think things over. He puts the moves on her and gets her pregnant. L eventually wants to go home and see her family, especially after she hears the mad king killed her big bro and dad. R can’t let her leave tho bc she’s already pregnant with Jon and R is paranoid of losing the prophecy baby. He tells L she may not leave or contact her family to say where she is. The problem with this video is that it assumes the books will fall in line with what happened in the show. In the books, Jon Snow's parentage is that of only Ned Stark as his father and an unknown mother. Nothing else has been revealed and there is much speculation on the prophecy Rheagar believed in with the book material.

George said that the show and books are different. Meaning Aegon didn't invade and conquer Westeros because of his visions in the books but because he could and wanted to be king. In the show it's different and just a really cheap retcon that Aegon had a visions and that's the only reason he invaded.

They even forced their son and daughter to wed against their wishes.

I agree that from our point of view the Song of Ice and Fire is clearly a reference to Jon Snow but you need to remember the Targaryens seem to have looked at the SOIAF to represent the dragons versus the White Walkers and the Prince that was promised was the leader of the forces of Fire. Plus Rhaegar was dead before dead before Jon’s birth. I think if he had been alive he certainly would have changed his opinion and realized Jon was the Prince.
But in my opinion he chose Lyanna because of her character instead of as an act of prophecy. She was impressed by her actions at the Tourney of Harrenhal when she defended one of her father’s bannermen from squires and then she made sure those squires were punished by their knights as the Knight of the Laughing Tree. He saw in her honor, skill at arms, a hardy constitution & most importantly a willingness to do what she saw was right without regard for her safety.
I think another factor that made Lyanna a suitable choice was that her father was part of a large premade alliance of High Lords (Stark, Baratheon, Tully & Arryn) that he could use to his advantage in his upcoming coup against his father that he hinted at to Jaimie last time they saw each other.

I think their marriage was actually full of love and understanding. I also believe Rhaegar was 100% a dragon dreamer. That's not something I think he'd keep from Elia. Makes me think that in Dany's vision she was witnessing the conversation he and Elia were having when they decided together what needed to be done.

I still don't believe jon snow is a targeryan, raeghar was alway loyal to elia martell. THIS IS ENTIRELY WRONG AND BACKWARDS. Rhaegar literally said his son, Aegon, with ELIA was the prince that was promised; NOT JON. Rhaegar was trying to recreate Aegon the conqueror and his 2 sisters; “the dragon has three heads”. That’s why his daughter with Elia was called *Rhaenys* and why his son with Elia called *Aegon* (potentially young Griff). He looked at Dany (who was somehow casted through time, in the house of the undying, via visions) and saw a *targaryen girl with no Dornish features* and assumed she was the girl (who he would call *Visenya*) he needed to finish his “trio”, thus completing “ *the dragon has three heads* ” prophesy.
Him being obsessed with the prophesy, then seduced Lyanna (who was tomboyish and described to be decent with a sword, like Visenya) to have a his 3rd child (second daughter) who would have a connection with the north (since the white walkers are a northern threat). Rhaegar was dumb/egotistical and believed the saviour will come through his blood line and he never lived long enough to find out his 3rd child wasn’t a girl but a boy, Jon. Him seeing a vision of Dany (a Targaryen girl with no dornish features) made him think he should finish his “trio” with someone out of wedlock and got Jon.
It’s obvious what happened but you’re literally misquoting what was clearly laid out in the book to meat-ride Jon for some reason. Jon is a great character but you don’t need to fabricate and misrepresent the text to make him look better.
