- Woodturning viking toys -This project was inspired by the History channel series Vikings. The woodturning in this project is really basic so even beginners could do this project. I hope this project inspires you to have a go at turning your own vikings.
Loved it, and I'm watching from Kentucky,USA
Thanks Charles I really appreciate your comment 😁 thanks for watching 👍
The Vikings are coming! The Vikings are . . . turning. Wow! That is the end result of a collision between an unstoppable imagination and several moveable objects! Wow, again!
Thanks for your comment 😁
Great idea.
Thanks for your comment I really appreciate it :-)
Great ideas! I have been looking for more toy projects for lathe work. I absolutely have to know what type of lathe you are using, it exhibits a blend of function and esthetics I rarely see.
Thanks for your comment Lewis 😁 the lathe is a Poolewood Euro 1500 it's an old British made lathe, made in the 90s unfortunately out of production now, really solidly built and still going strong 😁
Your work is great, honestly. Unfortunately, Vikings did not wear horns or helmets, that is a myth of the film industry.
Thanks for your comment Willi 😁 these are just stylised versions of vikings based on popular culture, so people would recognise them. You are right though there is no historical evidence that vikings ever had horns on their helmets, I'm sure as this would have been impractical, I really like the Gjermundbu style helmet but didn't think people would recognise them as vikings with this helmet style so added the horns 👍 thanks for watching 😁 I hope you have a great day 👍
Awesome
Did you ever film making the longboat? Great video by the way!
Thanks for your comment Tim unfortunately I didn't film making the longboat as it had quite a few steps and my video making skills at the time were not great. If I ever make another one I'll be sure to film it 😁 thanks for watching 👍
@@thewelshwoodman649 Consider it at least please
Love your channel buddy! Keep up the amazing work!
Thanks Chris 😁
Hey, I would like to see how you made the ship. thanks
Hey Sydney, the ship was cut and carved out of a pressure treated railway sleeper then I gave it a blowtorch and warm oak polyurethane varnish finish, unfortunately I didn't film the process, if I ever make another one in the future I'll film it for you and let you know when the video is coming out 😁
Pity about the horns on the helmets. The Vikings didn't have them. They came about because of the film The Vikings starring Tony Curtis and Kirk Douglas. Nadolig llawen I ti.
Thanks for your comment 😊 went for the Hollywood vikings style 👍
