I know I've already got an Epiphone G-400 pro... but even with that price, I'd trade in just to get that sweet headstock shape. It really completes the guitar's character.

I definitely love how a maestro vibrola looks on a sg, I wanted a sg Pelham blue years ago, that had one, but I have to admit, that thing throws your tunning stability to the trash

I was about to get the original Gibson version a couple of months ago but this new release is less than half the price. That metallic red is gorgeous.
Yep, but then replace them with Mojotone quiet hot P90s because the 60 cycle hum on the stock P90s will drive you insane, well it would drive me insane.

Welp, it won't be an SG if it doesn't go out of tune.
I like the new Epiphone lineup. The head stock is indeed more appealing and the finishes are nice. The top and back is veneered. The Vibrola will throw it out of tune with heavy use such as what you have demonstrated here but a set of locking tuners and a slightly lighter touch will keep it in tune all night long. It's a great value for $650.00.

Getting this in count down 4days ,lots of acid rock going to groove.
Nice looking, sounds kinda pokey and brash like a typical sg. Even if the maestro is completely useless, the extra weight probably helps mitigate neck dive.

Speaking of Vibrolas you might dig John Cipollina's signature use of an SG with a Vibrola on the first Quicksilver Messenger Service album. The opening notes ("Pride of Man") are with his 60s SG Standard (which this Epi is no doubt supposed to be based on) with one.
BTW I have heard that that vibrato type is one of the more stable designs -- possibly because it works by simply _bending_ a piece of metal...!

Epiphone has been using mahogany veneer on many guitars. I have a Les Paul standard from 2007 and the back is a veneer. Nothing new here. And if the vibrola is the same as on the Gibson SG, they couldn't keep that one in tune either.

Ryan - yeah all Epi SGs have a veneer top and back to hide the multiple blocks of wood used to make the body - this is going back many years - not just with the new Epis
Les Pauls too - everyone knows the flame maple tops are a veneer - but the backs have been veneers also - look at the sides from the back - you'll see all the joins
The new headstock is the 1960 era epiphone headstock - used on the early casinos and some early epi solidbodys - its not the same as a gibson - but yeah... 1000 miles better than the previous headstock
P-90s rule - good to see they are doing options without the veneers!

I liked the old headstock on les paul customs with the binding but it never worked with the sg's.
2:00 and AGAIN at 4:50 THAT is why I would never own a geetar with such an outdated floating bridge system! Hell, I STEER clear of modern floating designs, let alone a "de-tuner" like this lol. But ... I will SUREPY Purchase The new 2020 Epiphone SG or LP Custom in Tuxedo Black!!! Epi's old headstock design and lower end pups etc had kept me away for years, but I love the new headstock, the new pups, and the low price! For as low as the pricing is on these new Epiphone's, I'm actually okay with getting the frets professionally set up and polished.
I hadn't planned on purchasing a new electric guitar this year, but seeing this new lineup, I'm sold!
Cant wait to see a Epiphone vs Gibson with the new line!

I have a G-310 "Emily the Strange" Epiphone SG, and it's made by a laminated "Ply-wood" like design with a heavy, but straight coat of "Bondo" car filler on top!!! I hope Epi is not make that type of body again!?!?!

I did a refinish on an SG, I couldn’t get the stain to look right on the carves, they were lighter in color just like that one. I took a SG Pro in Ebony and tried to stain in Red.
It's actually only $549! The one with regular stop tail is $449 (and my preference ).
Didn't the guitarist singer for "Agent Orange" use a SG? Had a single PAF pickup.

That grain difference on the edge is very jarring. I wonder how many pieces the body is.

According to Musician's Friend, that beauty is $549. I am not a fan of the new head-stock. It looks boxy. It needs the sides slimmed a little, or maybe something closer to the Casino head-stock

If my house caught on fire, I'd take the Tele in one hand and the SG in the other and run. If the LP or PRS get left behind, so let it be. The new Epi line looks great and so does the SG vibrola, but you know, no well known artist theses days actually uses the vibrola on their SG because the design sucks as it is very effective in putting the guitar out of tune.

It's not a new headheadstock its Epiphones original headstock
On a demo of Gibson's version of this guitar from last year's Namm the bridge posts were swaying back and forth when the trem bar was used. I'm wondering if that was happening during this demo.

Not great as a trem, but I like what it does to the tone. Pickups, eh, idk. Kinda peeved what this(new headstock) may do to the resale on my Epi LP custom😑

@@shckltnebay Hi Eric. To me, this guitar sounds dull and lifeless on the clean channel, but ok with dirt. Does it stay in tune? I am a Fender guy so i am spoilt with pristine cleans so i am probably biased anyway. In my opinion its a nice looking guitar, but would not be suitable for me. Cheers.
