I have to admit I’m a loner but sometimes it’s very painful not to have friends. But I do agree that it is better to be alone than hang out with people who make you feel you don’t exist.
I agree Maria. I think what Kelly is explaining and experiencing is COMPLETELY different from the experience of not having friends. I personally don't thing someone like her (who has 4 friends) can even began to understand what it it means to have NO friends & NO social life

LAURA LORA I’d say don’t socialize more than needed, skip going to the functions, the parties, & industry kick backs *if they don’t serve a purpose* a.k.a - aren’t contributing to networking with people who you actually see yourself working w/ long term. Ain’t nothing wrong with having fun, but continuous & meaningless socializing drains us introverts. I’m like this myself, and that’s why I think saving your “socializing energy” should be saved for actually taking care of business rather than unnecessary amount socializing that’ll take away from actual networking anyway. Important to use whatever energy you have for no.1, your art (music) // and number 2. connecting w/ potential collaborators. It’s a whole different ball game if you’re an introvert so you gotta be smart with your energy 💫

Literally everyone talks about “loving yourself” but nobody wants to face the reality that we need to love solitude. That’s the line people won’t cross because it’s seen as “sad” and “lonely”.. that mentality is SAD, if you don’t enjoy your own company I don’t think you can ever truly love yourself

I don't consider myself an introvert by nature, I am enfp on the myers-briggs test, still I enjoy doing most things alone (including travelling, eating out and going to the movies) just as much as (and sometimes more than) doing them in company. It's a skill I've really gotten good at in my adult life.

@@charlottebottin5051 same but you have to learn to control your mind as in let your thoughts go. I really struggled with my mind and thought I needed to be around people to ease it. I was shocked however, when months later, I realized that I could heal and find peace just by being my myself.

I hate when people say “you’ve changed” it’s like no shit I’ve changed, I’m changing and learning and growing everyday!! It so closed minded for people to assume I’m going to be exactly the same person I was a couple years ago. Yeah that's something I've learned in recent years. I'm actually living with someone like that and... it's hard. I've been there so I can relate but at the same time, now being on the other side and having gone through lots of self-growth, having to experience someone else's constant negativity and plain nihilism is taking a toll on me. You can't help someone who doesn't want to help themselves.

I got zero friends, I inherited ADHD as a kid. I've always been misunderstood by the people around me. I don't have the energy to make someone understand me. If you try, I'll try. But I'm not going to go out of my way to get you to understand me. So I just stay in my own lane.

Being alone makes you get further in life at a much faster pace, as long as you have a few focused friends ,you are good to go.
The biggest irony of having "too many friends" is how much they hold you back from being adventurous and doing what you actually want to do. Like, it amazes me how people choose to not do something just simply for the fact that no one wants to go with them, it sounds more lonely than actually being alone. Most (extroverted) people are pretty boring and exhausting and yet for some reason they are so narcissistic too. Having fun in your own company is the best gift that someone can give to themselves, the world is way more open for you to just enjoy it.

I have a good number of friends, like ten, and if I really want to do something and they don't then I just go by myself, sometimes I just go do things alone without inviting anyone too. People call me weird cos i eat, go out and travel alone. They didn’t know the happiness i get with being just by myself. Being in a group overwhelms me, or hanging out with a friend sometimes end up arguing for having different opinions.
I do this too until I realized that I get targeted. No I need to recover from my anxiety and fear of being targeted by psychos because it's happened before. People who live in solitude are just perfect victims.
I love traveling alone and going out to eat alone when I do! It’s overwhelming and stressful when you do it with others

I relate too everything you said. I hate arguing with people or just disagreeing. I had to cut off a friend because she wouldn’t let me say what I want and didn’t respect my boundaries. Now I spend so much time and alone and I love it. I’ll draw or do whatever I want and it’s so peaceful. I’m really not a people person so it’s easy for me to be alone.

I found myself being alone because all of my friends had never grew up. They basically stopped growing after high school, also because they don't fu***ing read.
I found myself also in same situation, but for the opposite reason most of my friends did grow up but are caught up in the rat race of work or live for their kids; when I run into them I see the life sucked out of them like they are on auto pilot

I grew up as an only child and my daughter is also an only child. I love being alone, I enjoy my own company. It is so much more relaxing and peaceful than being in a problematic relationship
Being alone is better than trying to seek likeness and acceptance from people.
I've learned that negative friends are usually jealous snakes who probably wish for you to fail. As a loner myself I find most people are jealous of my independence and try to exploit me more than help me in any way. My best friends are other loners who I see once a month lol. Watch out for unsolicited advice from so called friends. Most advice from friends will lead to your downfall. At least that's been my experience.

I dine alone on my birthday (it’s on Valentine’s Day, so none of my friends/family are ever available). And I love it! I’ve gotten used to it and dress up really fancy and bring my Bible and people look at me like I’m crazy.

The difference between an introvert and an extrovert is that the introvert loses energy interacting with others (and gains energy when left alone) and the extrovert loses energy when he's alone but gains it back when interacting with others
That's true for me, an introvert. 30 minutes of being alone during a busy work day (at a large hospital) is all that I need to recharge and get back in there.
This is true! It’s funny because while I am definitely an introvert I enjoy being on stage. I think some of the best performers are introverts.

Forreal so many friendships I have had in the past that I miss until I realized that the loneliness I feel now, I actually felt it around them to, it was just dulled by physical proximity.

I worked in a call center in my early 20’s and one of the older ladies told me “Live alone for at least a year.” And I’m glad I did it. Didn’t have roommates or a live-in-boyfriend. Learned a lot about myself.

I’m a loner. Always have been. Never had more than 2 good friends at a time. I’m used to doing things by myself and prefer it that way sometimes, as I do enjoy my solitude. But I’m not going to pretend like certain things aren’t more fun with a friend. I’ll go out to eat alone, but it’s much more fun when you can do it with a good friend.

wise and beautiful words for those of us who spend outings wondering when it's gonna be over. the amazing thing about making your own plans is that you choose where to go, what to eat, you don't have to worry about making conversation, and you don't have to worry about dressing or acting like an idiot in front of your friend. plus the best part? you never have to check the clock wondering when its gonna be over. the second you stop having fun, you get up out of that movie theater, that cafe, that beach, and you get in your car and go straight home. what a luxury.

I tend to talk a lot during movies. So I purposely wait until the movie has been shown for so long that no one buys tickets. And I have the theater to myself, so I can fully express whatever emotion I’m feeling during the movie 😁
Sounds pretty sad miss. Expand your movements so you can meet more people and learn how to make friends. Its not cool having no friends at 50. its a very very boring long life. we cant use social media to supplement this emptiness which what i see alot of young people doing.

I’ve been like this my whole life and people have always told me I’m weird and Asocial. It is infinitely better to be alone than be around people who don’t actually care if you’re there or not.
I can’t disappoint myself and I also don’t have to deal with people making unnecessary drama. I can be alone with my thoughts, I can write. It’s awesome. More people should try it.

I went to a restaurant and ordered a pizza, and they were like “ma’am, you can order and takeaway, but the restaurant won’t open until 5PM”. I was like “okay sure, I’ll wait”. And eventually the guy took a chair of a table and told me I could eat the pizza there if I wanted. I enjoyed my half hour of silence and no people❤️.
There is nothing wrong with having friends. The problem is that friends do not exist. That is, they are not really LISTENING and so it is hard to have a relationship who is out to lunch . It is like talking to a wall.
Yes. Most people are draining. Esp when your energies are needed because of work, family, and just trying to survive. Stress kills, and I believe it. In the space I am in now everything is peaceful. If one can’t be in my life to ADD happiness to it please stay away.

When one is alone, peace evolves around him or her. Besides having a life partner, I agree that being alone is the best. This is because you think better and prevent that negative energy, misunderstanding, fight, enemity and so on that could result from having friends. In my opinion, I think having friends should only be for financial benefits.
I have dined at restaurants as "party of one" more times than I can count and I LOVE it! Cheers
