Your timing is absolutely impeccable, exactly the keyboard I needed a review on, thanks so much! Think ill grab a v2 with aloe, they sounded best to me so made me happy to hear you say they felt great too.
I recommend the v2 over the v1 because of the qmk/via customization. Russ you're going to love the infinite things you can do with this new keyboard. You can program your keyboard to launch certain apps and open your web browser to exactly where you need with a simple click of button. You can have your workflow automatically start or stop with another button. Know those complete bundle of key combinations to get something done. Guess what you can do that with just another button. One of the nicest things is that you can use the same keyboard to do the same action on different computers. You can have different layouts for gaming and work. So click a button youre all set up for gamiing. Know how sometimes the keyboard shortcuts for a game is complex. You can use via to program it the way you want it. It just crazy the shear amount of customizaton you can do with qmk. Just like what you did for emulation you can do for keyboard setup. For a lot of people there is an arguemet needing a numpad / arrow keys. With qmk you can see how you quickly access these functions without leaving the home row. The skys the limit in what you can do and there is a lot to dig into what qmk setup does what.
I'm personally always interested in new keyboards, but I tend to stay a long time with one I truly feel at home with. It mostly comes down to the comfort/speed of typing, sound is rather an added bonus for me. In the 90s, I had an Apple Extended Keyboard II with Alps Cream switches, and I used that for more than a decade. At some point I switched to notebooks exclusively, so it got stowed away - and somehow left behind after moving at least two times. About 5 years ago, I asked the boss of the Apple reseller chain I work for, whether we had any of those anywhere that we weren't using. And to my utter astonishment, he said: "We have about 3 or 4 completely new ones in our oldest store." So I bought one of those. It really looks out of place with any new computers, and it requires an USB to ADB dongle (which luckily I have), which adds bulk to the bulk. I've recently bought a Keychron K4 v2 with Gateron Red switches, and luckily felt at home with it the first day. But of course I'll keep the old Apple keyboard packaged and on a shelf, so I'll definitely see it, should I ever move again.
Thank you sir , your video so far has been the only video that has shown what the shine through key caps look like on this keyboard. Great all around video very informative 👍👍
I almost purchased the Ionic White, but watching this video, I decided to go with the Basalt Black with the shine through keycap. Thank you for the review!
Ordered mine two days ago with your code. This is my second time watching your video, first time when I wanted to buy it and now to reassure myself about my decision 😅 btw this is going to be my first ever mechanical keyboard.
Excellent video, mate! My Air75v2 was delivered about a week ago. It's my second Nuphy keyboard. I tried the Air60, but it was a disappointment. It had all kinds of trouble such as lots of double typing or skipping in wireless mode. I also disliked the magnetic feet. Nuphy was great about issuing a quick refund. They didn't even want me to return the keyboard. I'm very pleased to report a much more satisfying experience with the Air75v2. It's an outstanding keyboard that eliminated all my complaints with the Air60. I still get the occasional double typed letter, but it in no way detracts from my appreciation of the keyboard as a whole. I'd recommend it over any competing keyboard from Keychron or Logitech.
Just got my preorder with Cowberry switches and am really enjoying it. This being my first low profile mechanical board I was surprised at just how thocky it sounds, as well as the overall quality of the construction and factory lube on the switches and stabilizers.
Great video. Mechanical keyboards are like linux distros for me: I can never settle on just one, either brand or switches. I love my original Air75 but I do love the 8bitDo one as well. The only ones that rub me the wrong way are the higher-profile keyboards. How on Earth did we use those back in the 80s?
Thank you for adding the ISO layout con. I wish I could buy this. Not just because of the lack ISO layout, but because they won't ship to my city for some reason (but they do ship to my country)
I'm in Europe, and actually the ANSI layout makes a lot more sense to me, and it's not hard to get used to. Also, the ISO layout is messed up in a sense that different manufacturers create their own versions of it (it starts with an L and ends with ogitech). I've never understood the weird shaped Enter key in the ISO layout... what makes that key so special that it needs to occupy two rows? :)
Went to order the original Air75 and saw they had just started preorders for the V2. Got my preorder a couple weeks ago and love it so far. Funnily enough I tried the extra included switches and also like the Aloe's the best. Will probably order a set.
I might keep an eye out for the full size version if it comes out. But these keyboards are so borderline heirloom in longevity, i still have basically no good reason to replace my custom maxkeyboards board, its almost 15 years old and still looks and feels as good as new. Mechanical switches are truly no joke in their durability.
I had my old mechanical keyboard until i managed to snap the cable . . . Probably 10+ years and only changed it because it looked old and outdated. If i'd replace the cable it would probably gone for 10 more years easily
Two things: They have announced that the air96v2 is in the works. But more importantly... most of the new things they added to the v2 of the air75 already existed on the air96v1! I'm actually typing on it right now and it is an incredible board for portable use.
For mechanical keyboards, it's better to get an ANSI layout rather than an ISO layout. It has many more keycap options. Overall better compatibility to the accessory.
During your typing tests, keyboard nerds like when you tap the space bar repeatedly as you move your finger from one side of it to the other. It's good to hear how the space bar reacts to being pressed at different positions along it. Just a heads up if you keep doing keyboard reviews. :)
Out of all the switches you tested, I think the Aloe had the most satisfying sound. I've been thinking about getting a low profile keyboard. I've been mainly focused on the Lofree Flow because it uses Kailh switches, but this looks nice too. It's good to have something else to consider. Excellent review by the way.
Yeah, it sounds great. I have been checking reviews of the most popular, keychron k3 pro, bulgy air 75 v2 and the lofree flow. I will probably end up buying the lowfree flow as it is the only one that ships to my country directly.
Beware, functionally all of the switches sound identical, you can make any of the switches sound like any other depending on how hard you type(other than the blue clicks ones obviously)
@@precursorsI know, but Nuphy doesn't ship to my country. I heard from another UA-camr that LoFree is already testing a V2, hopefully that won't take too long and it will come with 2.4 GHz and VIA/QMK support. I guess I will wait for now.
12:27 am I hallucinating or it does sound like Wisteria is the quietest one? I have read many times that Moss is supposed to be the quietest one. I am surprised that it does not seem like that. Or is it just me?
I like how you said that $100 is expensive while I just spent 220€ on keyboard with 36 keys and I need to assemble it myself. Mechanical keyboards might be expensive but they are dirt cheap compared to mechanical split keyboards.
Excellent and well-composed review. I’ve come to find that you folks in Brooklyn, New York near I-278 really know how to make a compelling video. Like the Yakuza tatts, dude.
god bless 🙏 great video. I was like "yea but I wonder what it would look like with shine through keycaps" and a second later you start talking about just that. Fantastic
I have the Halo75, it is great for the money, not perfect but swapping out the switches to your liking and then it's an excellent keyboard to get into mechanical keyboards.
I'm a Mac user with the Nuphy Air75 v1. I went back to Apple's Magic Keyboard for two reasons. First Touch ID, it's really convenient when dealing with credential prompts. But the biggest reason I switched back was the slow wake of this keyboard when used via Bluetooth. Hitting my spacebar to wake my Mac and realizing that press only woke up the keyboard, then in another 2 secs it's finally functioning so I can finally wake my Mac by pressing a key again was just too annoying.
Well you are free to change the layout in any way so you can just make your own regional layout. I would suggest using blank keycaps but because nuphy uses their own weird choc switch clone you won't find such caps.
True, they don’t make other languages layout. Only got different colours of key caps for purchase, about 20 usd for the whole set. Kailh switch key caps, unique spec of “nSA” key cap of Nuphy product.
Oh wth I thought I was the only person who sat their mech keyboard on top of the built-in laptop keyboard! Unfortunately my options are super limited as I live in Japan and use Japanese for work so JIS layout is absolutely essential. There aren't many fun JIS keyboards out there, so I just grabbed the TKL Keychron K8 Pro with red switches. It has been great, the build is a million times better than standard issue Filcos.
I fell in love with the Halo range. Bought them all in both colours. I have the v2 in both white and black. My favourite keyboard at the moment is the Halo 75 (Black). There's something about the profile of the Halo range that appeals to me. But you can't really take them out to type in coffee shops, so I use the white v2 with my MacBook pro.
Honestly the support for QMK/VIA and shinethrough keycap option sold me on it. It looks like they are sadly out of shinethrough keycaps for this model, I think I'll wait for a restock before buying since I'm already satisfied with my Keychron K3 Pro.
I just bought the Nuphy Air75v2 with the 20% off summer sale. Almost bought the Air60v2 instead because I prefer smaller keyboards, but the 75v2 has 50% better battery life. I wish Nuphy would just make an Air60 with a 5,000mAh+ battery for 300+ hours battery life (heck I'd take 10,000mAh and 600 hours if they can do it).
I am a great follower of yours for retro devices and it is great to see you review this keyboard. One thing you didn't mention if I may, does it feature on board memory to save my RGB settings etc?
For me, the best lighting is plain white, no flashing. I would enjoy though if the keyboard could automatically dim it according to the ambient light, and if it can change colors for specific keys, like make all modifier keys less bright than the alphanumeric. All these flashy colors on the other hand are only good for kids and I don't appreciate models which have that. Even worse when you have it enabled by default and need to learn how switch it off before you can do anything with the keyboard.
I have the older version. I miss the insert button but it can be programmed in. The magnetic riser pad is weak and the rubber pad it's resting on is held up by cheap glue.
I have a few hard requirements for a keyboard: QMK w/ full sources available, hotswap switches, and 65% to 75% layout. My customizations are extensive, so stock firmware and VIA aren't an option for me. Nuphy is getting really close, but it doesn't look like they've published code yet.
Really hoping they eventually allow you the option to swap out the default keycaps when purchasing instead of having to get different keycaps as an add on when buying the keyboard. Kind of sucks to have to spend the extra money when I already know I prefer the different keycaps and will never use the default caps, it's a waste of both materials and money. They already allow you to pick the switches you want as standard, why not the keycaps?
i have a v1 and and i think its the last keyboard i actually need. i'll keep buying them because im an addict, but i think this air series boards are the best keyboards for most use cases. my end game might be an air60 with blues in it.
Getting this, and the new Keychron with the Hall Effect and calling it done. I'll have a dozen mech keyboards and one of every major type. The high shipping cost is the only reason I have not gotten one yet, and unfortunatly Amazon has the V2 now but not all the switch options (I want Cowberry)
4000 mAh and 220 hours means 18 mA current consumption. That's crazy much. The thing needs but a few microamps, except when sending keystrokes to the radio. What are they, not sleeping the CPU at all?
completely hooked on this form factor, I use a Redragon K652, which visually, is an almost exact clone of the Nuphy, have you used that one? any comments on the comparison between the Nuphy and a clone that costs half as much, or less, depending on sales? going back to full height would be tough.
Hi Russ, You said it could be used for gaming because it's versatile, but I'm curious what the Field75 variant designed for it is worth and how it compares....Great video as always !
as a person grows up using Azerty ISO. I don't recommend it because the left shift was so short to me. I'm using it a lot, and it's not comfortable at all to type in both French and Arabic. ANSI is amazing, especially with Arabic; I can easily use all sub-characters with the shift key without using the caps lock. the enter still annoying but its OK for use the numpad enter more.
I have the shine through but they change the sound IMHO and feel different... as the RGB is somewhat dimm I like the shine through look just not the sound. I put Gateron Banana in mine as they are a little heavier tactile but love the sound of the cowberry. I have the black but the White Halo 75v2 which is one of my favorite boards of all time, especially from a sound perspective.
Wish it came in ISO. Perfect in every other sense. I’ve been using an ANSI but I’m in no rush to grab a new keyboard until it fits all my needs. ISO and 2.4Ghz wireless.
I was wondering when you'd do it, i've been loving mine :D Personally i found the Aloe a little too loose, but the cowberry has just the right actuation so i'll be ordering me an extra set
I really want to try out the Aloe switches because I like the sound profile and they seem comfortable to type on. I'm just worried about the double spring though. I didn't really like the double springs when I used Gateron Silver Speeds a while back. Maybe it's different on low-profile, but I could also just go with Daisy or Cowberry to start and maybe invest in them in the future. Thanks for the review!
I'm currently using a Logitech MX Mechanical Full size Wireless Mechanical with tactile switches. While I don't really need a num pad, I feel a keyboard witnout one is too small for a desktop. I heard about the Nuphy keyboards after I bought it and have been eyeing one since. It's one of the few keyboards like the MX that have both a MacOS and Windows modes that are automatically selected by the keyboard software.
Do you think its worth upgrading if you have a V1? I put the Wisteria switches in (much better than the gateron browns I had). I also use it wired for the most part.
is there a white backlight only option or a white backlight default option? the reason this is important is for example on many keychron keyboards, you have to cycle through all the annoying rgb animations just to get to a normal non-animated solid white backlight every time you reboot your linux computer, or just buy a white backlight keyboard. this leaves out users where rgb is secondary and want white backlight as primary - there is no middle ground. there may be a workaround with installing extra software but i don’t want to install any extra software.
So with RGB it lasts about a week and without it about 220h - I get why you phrased it like that with the information you have, but it is really not ideal to compare two values with different units like this. Especially because something like "a week" is often associated with "a working week while using it for three hours a day", not necessarily 168 hours. But besides me not really liking anything below 100%, no iso layout is always a killer for me, as someone used to iso-de using ansi is a pain in the arse.
I was actually in the market for a wireless keyboard and was pretty excited since I thought "oh well $100 bucks isn't a big deal" then I saw how much extra they were charging to ship to Japan. In addition to the super weak Yen (compared to USD), I would be paying equivalent of $185 for just the standard Air75 v2... I guess I'll keep on truckin' with my current cabled keyboard. Great video tho - you totally sold it to me (if only it were more reasonably priced for Japan).
I just got my air75 and I'm enjoying it so far. I got the cowberry switches. I also got the shine through keys, but I am a little disappointed with the text layout on those. I prefer the centered text, on the original key caps, with the shift symbols above, rather than next to the letters. Does this bother anyone else? Perhaps once I put them on and use it a bit, it won't bother me at all.
thank you for reviewing the shine through keycaps as well. looked all over youtube for it. I'm definitely gonna get that one. cheers!
Your timing is absolutely impeccable, exactly the keyboard I needed a review on, thanks so much! Think ill grab a v2 with aloe, they sounded best to me so made me happy to hear you say they felt great too.

You might think it's silly but the fact that it fits on top of a 14" Mac sold it for me. I've a tight enough desk setup so that it's worth it
Agree (fitting on a laptop) is a key metric that not many confirm about keyboards.

Got this with the wisteria in black. And then got the Lofree Flow as I couldn’t resist the design.
What do you prefer between the two? I'm looking at both of those as well.. (LoFree Flow in black)
I think I'll wait for a v2 of the Air96, I need my numpad!
I bought Red Dragon's Air75 clone, and while it's not as high quality, I love it. And it's cheap.
Great video!
My v1 came with Brown switches, so I'll just check out the new switches.
4000 mAh and 220 hours means 18 mA current consumption. That's crazy much. The thing needs but a few microamps, except when sending keystrokes to the radio.
What are they, not sleeping the CPU at all?
completely hooked on this form factor, I use a Redragon K652, which visually, is an almost exact clone of the Nuphy, have you used that one? any comments on the comparison between the Nuphy and a clone that costs half as much, or less, depending on sales? going back to full height would be tough.
that's really interesting. i hadn't heard of it before
Hey Russ. The Air 96 v2 launches tomorrow (31st Oct).
These are really nice keyboards but I prefer keychron when it comes down to it
Hi Russ, You said it could be used for gaming because it's versatile, but I'm curious what the Field75 variant designed for it is worth and how it compares....Great video as always !
as a person grows up using Azerty ISO.
I'm between the brown and the red switches. Do you think brown switches will work nice for gaming and programming?
I have the shine through but they change the sound IMHO and feel different... as the RGB is somewhat dimm I like the shine through look just not the sound. I put Gateron Banana in mine as they are a little heavier tactile but love the sound of the cowberry. I have the black but the White Halo 75v2 which is one of my favorite boards of all time, especially from a sound perspective.
That MX3 Master Mouse.. very nice
Wish it came in ISO. Perfect in every other sense. I’ve been using an ANSI but I’m in no rush to grab a new keyboard until it fits all my needs. ISO and 2.4Ghz wireless.
I was wondering when you'd do it, i've been loving mine :D
Personally i found the Aloe a little too loose, but the cowberry has just the right actuation so i'll be ordering me an extra set
Aloe switches are really light compared to the others.
I was hoping for more about the differences between v1 and v2 were covered.
Just in time! Wanted a low profile KB to carry in backpack and wanted v1 but this is the best kid of surprise a teckie can hope for
Let's hear it for the blue switches
Honey wake up, Russ just uploaded another video.
I'm currently using a Logitech MX Mechanical Full size Wireless Mechanical with tactile switches. While I don't really need a num pad, I feel a keyboard witnout one is too small for a desktop. I heard about the Nuphy keyboards after I bought it and have been eyeing one since. It's one of the few keyboards like the MX that have both a MacOS and Windows modes that are automatically selected by the keyboard software.
wish there are more low profile like this, much better for typing
I've got my eye on the Air60 2 but also fancy the first one which is still available and cheaper.
which switch was the quietest? I cant really figure out which one to get
Now I need some keyboard ASMR
I prefer the Lofree Flow. Typing action is much nicer.
Do you think its worth upgrading if you have a V1? I put the Wisteria switches in (much better than the gateron browns I had). I also use it wired for the most part.
No ISO layout for those of us across the pond interested.
This is the nicest kb ive seen that has a num pad. Omg, but that price...LOL
Bluetooth in version one isn't very good. There's always a tiny delay. It's definitely noticable.
But I heard in V2 it got way faster.
is there a white backlight only option or a white backlight default option?
the reason this is important is for example on many keychron keyboards, you have to cycle through all the annoying rgb animations just to get to a normal non-animated solid white backlight every time you reboot your linux computer, or just buy a white backlight keyboard. this leaves out users where rgb is secondary and want white backlight as primary - there is no middle ground. there may be a workaround with installing extra software but i don’t want to install any extra software.
From VIA software you have infinite color options
So with RGB it lasts about a week and without it about 220h - I get why you phrased it like that with the information you have, but it is really not ideal to compare two values with different units like this. Especially because something like "a week" is often associated with "a working week while using it for three hours a day", not necessarily 168 hours.
But besides me not really liking anything below 100%, no iso layout is always a killer for me, as someone used to iso-de using ansi is a pain in the arse.
Breeze has the best typing experience I have...
I think they had 20% off last year's Black Friday. Might be worth having another look this coming Black Friday.
@@mroctober3657 Unless the Yen strengthens suddenly (it fell some more today) with 20% discount I'm still working with a horrible exchange rate.
Excellent excellent excellent review
Such a nice keyboard...but as you mentioned.. no quertz layout available 😢
Russ can make a video about a printer and I'll still watch it
I ended up selling my one and replacing it with the Lofree Flow which feels more b premium with its better typing action.
You can't have centered text AND shine through on keyboards with mechanical switches
awwww man im thorn apart what do i get the 8bitdo keyboard or the nuphy v2 but i think ill go nuphu just for the back light
