Thanks for being so upfront and honest. Way to many reviewers, not just youtubers, post reviews without any of the back story on how they decided and got into "business" with a company. In my humble opinion, that can has a huge impact on whether I buy a product or not. And bias of a reviewer that gets a product for free is always suspect. :) Thanks for the short sweet videos, Jon. Got alpharex pro first gen for my 14’ 4runner for 460 … after 2 years of daily use I sold my truck with those headlights in perfect shape … so they got a loyal alpharex customer here 🙋🏼♂️
Man... I love that you do your homework on these! I have definitely heard a lot of the same things that you did about some of the other companies - directly from people in person.
I know what you mean about MORIMOTO Gen 2's. I am old enuf to recall when we put Alan Shephard ON THE MOON in our country's 1st manned space flight in 1961. I LOVE MY 2nd GEN MORIMOTO XB's!!!
I’ve had the Morimoto headlights for six months and have had no issues so far. Yes they are pricier than the others, but I also trust that they will stand behind their product should an issue arise. I love the way mine look!
With the 5 yr warranty on morimoto makes you wonder or question thier products! Are they that good OR that bad your doing several warranty replacements? I'm currently doing my own research and so far I'm hearing/reading/watching negative reviews and results on morimoto so makes me question the MAIN reason why the 5 yr warranty
eyeballing these for a while now. just never saw a video for them. so I never pulled the trigger on them. thank you jon for the review. looking forward for the install
I own quite a few Morimoto products and I can attest to most of it being junk and some of it amazing. Their projectors are top notch, bar none, as far as aftermarket goes. I don't mean the kits or the entire headlight housings, I mean just the projectors themselves. I've retrofitted many and they perform and hold up exceptionally well. The shrouds are of really good quality and I have yet to have one of their HD resistors fail on me. And that's about it lol. All their LED products have failed or faded within a years time on not only my own setup but, many of my friends as well; two at the most. And I do mean ALL... Their halos, bulbs, strips etc. They'll perform amazing for the first 5-6 months and then dramatically dwindle down. This is most likely due to poor thermal management and them being cranked up higher than rated by the manufacturer. Their HID bulbs also are barely on par with any name brand. But the product of theirs that takes the cake though, is their harnesses. Just complete junk all the way around. Can't even count how many times I've had to cut out and replace one of their 9006 style connectors, because they don't hold the prongs in straight or very solidly. Have had multiple harnesses arrive and be literally glued together or wired incorrectly for the vehicle they were ordered for. The wire jacketing is utter trash and the slightest vibration from an engine rubs through it. If it wasn't for the excessive amount of slide-on style braiding they use, their harnesses wouldn't last 2-3 months in a daily driven rig. Especially if you have a diesel. I've never actually purchased any of Morimoto's stuff directly through them so, I guess you could argue that's the problem... BUT when you've ordered from 3 separate vendors over the years, I tend to think the problem lays with the company itself.
I told a coworker if I ever bought the morimoto headlights he had permission to punch me in the face. Way too much money. I hope these work out so I can get them. My wife hates the chrome. Thanks for the info. Can't wait for the installation.
Alpharex vs. Morimoto. If you're looking to upgrade with high quality LED headlights, you're probably gonna have that debate with yourself. I know I did. I ended up going with Alpharex. As with all things aftermarket, there's always a bit of "rolling the dice". Does the company stand behind their product if issues arise? As far as Morimoto, I can't give an honest opinion. I don't own any of their products. My personal experience with Alpharex, however, was 10 out of 10. Had a high beam burn out one year after purchase. Took pictures, and sent Alpharex an email regarding the issue. After confirming a few basic checks, they sent me a new headlight assembly and emailed me a Fedex return slip for the defective unit. That easy. Unfortunate that there was a failure that early, but I gotta give credit where it's due. Alpharex stood behind their product, and addressed the issue FAST. Legit company, in my experience.
Got an ad on Facebook the other day and started to do some research and then this video was my saving grace. Definitely picking these headlights up soon 👍🏻
Jon with my 2021 4runner venture in regards too the low beam led headlights would u recommend changing them out for say gen2 morimoto led ? as I have never seen the morimoto in person .
Yep I've been deciding on the two brands also ,no decisions yet , will wait and see what the next gen morimoto looks like and holds up, then a decision we be made.
I really love the headlight reviews you've done. I was all about getting some morimotos but now that I know about these im super interested. I actually like the look of the Alpharex better as well.
I think the only thing I do not like is the fact that the low beams are not easily accessible once the housings are installed onto the frame, but they look so prettty :)
While it's untrue that none of our 4Runner headlights have ever had any kind of issue: there are no wide-spread defects and/or quality issues with them. The 4Runner lights are one of the most popular headlights in our entire XB lineup. However, there are some upgrades being made to them to further boost performance. The current 4Runner lights have a dual-LED low beam and a single LED high beam projector, whereas the new version will have a triple LED low beam projector / Dual Bi-LED high beam setup, and the Bugatti style startup sequence. The beam pattern has been revised to provide more intensity, especially on the ground directly in front of the truck, since some users complained they were lacking light with the Gen 1's and needed to fill it in with their fog lights. While foreground light is technically the responsibility of the fog lights, we were able to provide more width, distance, and foreground with the optical upgrade that's rolling out soon - and so killed three birds with one stone with the revision. These should be available through all distributors in July.
Every product will have some defects here and there. Not everything will be perfect, that's unfortunately how production works. I'm glad some are enjoying them and that you are fixing the causes of issue with others. My email is on my page if you'd like to talk business. Thank you for your comment.
I have zero complaints with my factory headlights, but do love the different look the aftermarket offers. But since they are so pricey, it will be one of my last mods I do. But these look good and the price is reasonable. I'll go this route if I choose the headlight mod.
I just had to return 2 sets of the Morimoto XB LED Gen 2 headlights because the DRL on the drivers side did not work. I called Morimoto and they told me that they have recently learned of and issue with the DRL and the 2022 4 Runners. My highbeams did not work either. They know about and currently do not have a fix for it.
What led lights can I use to replace my high beams for my pro series? I found an old video you did where you put a link for H7 for the low beams. Can I just order the same ones and use them for my high beams? I guess what I’m asking is do the H7 lights have the capability for low and high beam or are there specific H7 for high beam?
TRD JON. I have a 2020 Offroad. The Gen 2 XB Morimoto were causing my Pre-collion system light to light up on my dashboard which didn't allow me to use cruise control. 2 Toyota dealership both think my Morimoto did not match the new sensors system in my 2020 runner because this is the first year Toyota put in the sensors. Which alpharex series do you suggest for me? I still have a bad taste in my mouth to headlight installation lol
Will definitely give my one 2 week opinion on them. I unfortunately haven’t had the option to drive as much as I’ve wanted to with my wife’s surgery. But I will do my best to give an opinion.
Can’t wait for the install vid! 🤙🏽 my novas get delivered tomorrow! Super excited, and same heard nothing but bad reviews about morimotos and just felt every one with a 5th gen jumped into the bandwagon for those headlights because it was the first on the scene.. but have heard great things about this brand & my communication with alpharex so far has been top notch
So are you saying one could buy the Toyota 4Runner PRO-Series Projector Headlights ($469) and purchase LED lights and switch them out and it would be comparable to the Toyota 4Runner LUXX-Series LED Projector Headlights ($760)?
I have the alpharex nova lights in my 2022 ranger XLT. And I been having problem with right side of the light. It’s not lighting up all the way and when I hit a bump hard it lights up brighter. Or I can hit the light with my fist and it light up brighter. But once it get brighter it seem like it stays brighter until I turn off the car. And does it again time time. Can you help me with this problem please
Wow, I find the comments here of Morimoto headlight quality surprising. However I have a Tundra, and I've had my headlights for over a year. It sounds like Morimoto did a great job on the Tundra headlights, but not so great on 4Runner headlights. I wonder if quality fell due to COVID 2020.
Hey Jon just an update on those Alla lighting switchback fogs. For $60 I definitely think they’re worth it. They definitely look cool but they also work quite well. I’d love to see what you think of them in terms of comparing to the boslla’s.
@@TRDJon Sounds good. would like to see a direct comparison if you ever get around to it. I would but accessing the fog housing and exchanging is something i hope to never do again lol
I like the looks better of alpharex but the light output and performance of morimoto more. I’ve used both brands on my Tacoma and currently have the morimotos installed.
I have the cheaper alpharex headlights with the chrome and HID lights for about 4 months now. But I switched out the lights with LED H7s and it looks MEAN. I’m glad I went with the chrome ones becuz it works really well with my silver 4R and looks good.
Hey Jon, love your videos. I installed the Alpharex Pro’s about a year ago, and about 6 mo in I’m getting hyper blinking for turn signals and the low beams aren’t working. DRL and Parking lights are okay. Any idea why these stopped?
@@TRDJon Yea, I actually bought them on Ebay and the seller replaced it the first time. When they died again the Seller started to help and then ghosted me even though they still had 3 years left on the warranty. I sent an email to Retrofit Source who is an Authorized reseller. I explained situation and how I bought them from ebay. They offered to replace them for me because they still had a warranty regardless where I purchased them. Thank goodness for The Retrofit Source. Anyways, love these new lights and love the channel. I really want a pair, the led strip turn and DRL looks good.
I have been running the AlphaRex PRO midnight series with HIDs on my 2015 T4R for a few months now. So far so good. For the PRO series you can change out the H7 bulbs (HID or LED or halogen) if they ever fail and go out. Downside is, you have to remove the front bumper and unbolt the headlight assembly to access the dust cap to get to the H7’s. Can you remove the LEDs if they ever fail on the LUXX series? Or do you have to send the entire headlight assembly back to AlphaRex to have them install new LEDs?
TRD JON if thats the case then it’s probably a good idea to keep your OEM headlights and don’t sell them. If your LUXX series LEDs fail, you wont be able to drive at night until you receive new unit from AlphaRex.
1:27 Not a fan of "sponsored" reviews. I'll check back after a year to see how your headlights are doing. I'm about to put my Morimotos through a real-life test. I hate the fact that their light bulbs are not serviceable. We'll see if they last. 5 years is my minimum. I enjoy your videos. Thank you.
the fact it is sponsored doesn’t mean anything for my videos. Check my month later reviews and the pro vs Luxx review. I do criticize where needed for sure. Thanks for watching!! 👍🏼
I just finished putting all new Lasfit LED turn, side marker & back up lights on Sunday, so I’m a ways off from this type of mod. That said, I am very interested in seeing how these look and last. I would expect this type of thing would be standard on the Limited and TRD models. Perhaps the next gen 4s will have this upgrade. By then my Pro will be paid off and I’ll be ready to upgrade....
@@TRDJon my understanding is if the housing has LED's already in it then they are a sealed and can't change them but i could be wrong on that as I'm researching still
I have to give a shoutout to Alpharex...their lights look killer in person and perform well. I keep on getting compliments on them whenever I go out somewhere. Time will tell how long they last, but I definitely feel that the money was worth it.
I tried putting Xenon Depot lights in Alpharex housings. What an absolute joke. Xenon Depot totally lied to me and ripped me off. I use the Morimoto bulbs for low beams and they are really not that bright coming out of Alpharex housing. If I had to do it again I'd just get the upgraded light pre-installed in Alpharex housing.
@@TRDJon After multiple email exchanges Xenon depot said their lights would fit great. They did not fit. The fins on XD bulbs take up a lot of space. The wiring wasn’t compatible either. After splicing and re routing they did nor work. Splicing, of course, voided any returns. AlphaRex takes h7 bulbs they sent me H10. Return took forever. The Morimoto bulbs are just not that bright. I have the last fit fog lights (per your recommendation) having those makes my lighting bright enough to seem normal. Xenon depot after assuring me those lights would work and then voiding the return was gracious enough to offer me 30% off my next order. Jerks. Worst customer service ever. Lost about $250 on that deal. I have all the emails to back up my issues with them.
The products are questionable with a 5yr warranty either the product is that good OR that bad you will be doing several warranty replacements what i have been hearing/watching/reading is several had issues with morimoto and some are on their 5th warranty replacements
Just ordered some of these. They will go well with the other 40k lumens from Baja and diode dynamics lights on my runner lol. Btw..how come there are no lux/lumen ratings for these? Haven't found any real specs.
Jon everytime I watch your videos I feel my pockets get lighter :'( Damn man I was saving up for a motorcycle but I might just have to get these now AHHH Hope you and the family are doing well man :)
TRD JON if you are accepting requests for future videos there is a company called autoease that makes DIY kits for power lift tailgates for our runners if thats something you might be interested in.
Unpopular opinion here, but.. these type of lights just don’t fit the vibe of a 4Runner. These belong on a Lexus GX. 4Runner & LandCruisers should be traditional. Imo, of course
@TRDJon light output is higher. Light is focused down the road not pointed down. Cut off is cleaner like stock. DRL is brighter. Pretty much in every way

People think things are garbage when they can't afford them
I have been running the AlphaRex PRO midnight series with HIDs on my 2015 T4R for a few months now.
I looks like you;'d have to send it back or they send you a whole new assembly unfortunately .
TRD JON if thats the case then it’s probably a good idea to keep your OEM headlights and don’t sell them. If your LUXX series LEDs fail, you wont be able to drive at night until you receive new unit from AlphaRex.
Whats the difference between the PRO an LUXX? Is the LUXX a stronger watt?
I made a video of this too. Luxx had built in LED as well
1:27 Not a fan of "sponsored" reviews.
Please do a review of them after using them! and after a wash to see if it fogs up! Would love to know
I have after a month. No condensation at all 👍🏼
I have the Alpharex Pro lights, and I also wanted to switch out for the LED’s you mentioned. But with the H7’s, what do you with the small black box?
I stuffed it into the housing
@@TRDJon did you attach with anything?
@@TRDJon does it not make a lot of noise while driving?
No noise that I could hear at all
I just finished putting all new Lasfit LED turn, side marker & back up lights on Sunday, so I’m a ways off from this type of mod. That said, I am very interested in seeing how these look and last. I would expect this type of thing would be standard on the Limited and TRD models. Perhaps the next gen 4s will have this upgrade. By then my Pro will be paid off and I’ll be ready to upgrade....
I think it will. The taco and tundra introduce these kinda lights. Only a matter of time before the 4runner does.
So can you change the LEDs if one goes out is the only reason I'm holding out on buying this model
You'd have to get with them. I'd recommend the PRO series from them so you can swap the bulbs out if the fail.
Ain’t nothing wrong about getting free stuff.... if you have a channel and people watch, it’s what makes the world go round
Thanks for the video Jon! By the way, can the LED light bulb be switched out if it get burned out? Or do you have to replace the whole headlight unit?
You can. I'm not sure how hard it would be though
@@TRDJon my understanding is if the housing has LED's already in it then they are a sealed and can't change them but i could be wrong on that as I'm researching still
I love my Luxx in my 2012 4runner
How are the Hidretrofit ones? For a 2012
Do they have the sequential turn signal like the morimotto?
correct
Sorry, failed to mention that in this one, I thought I did but when I went to edit, it turns out I did't.
@@TRDJon there's a wire to hookup or not to hookup i forgot which one in order to get sequential
So after a year how are the AlphaRex holding up?
very good!
Placed an order for a pair of the “pro’s” over the weekend. Looking forward to undoing the Spyder mess I have now.
I'm trying to figure out the difference between the LUXX and the PRO.
Anyone?
So what’s the difference from the Pro and the Luxx?
Have a full video for that 👍🏼👍🏼
I have to give a shoutout to Alpharex...their lights look killer in person and perform well. I keep on getting compliments on them whenever I go out somewhere. Time will tell how long they last, but I definitely feel that the money was worth it.
Could not agree more
Let me guess price?
I tried putting Xenon Depot lights in Alpharex housings. What an absolute joke. Xenon Depot totally lied to me and ripped me off. I use the Morimoto bulbs for low beams and they are really not that bright coming out of Alpharex housing. If I had to do it again I'd just get the upgraded light pre-installed in Alpharex housing.
What was wrong with the Xenon depot ones?
Just make sure you PPF them.
A look who backs their lights the longest... morimoto XB has a 5 year warranty. 2 year on alpharex
Always good to have a longer warranty
The products are questionable with a 5yr warranty either the product is that good OR that bad you will be doing several warranty replacements what i have been hearing/watching/reading is several had issues with morimoto and some are on their 5th warranty replacements
If you are planning on selling the factory ones... please let me know
Will do!
Does the pedal commander work for a 3rd Gen 4Runner?
You have to get it specific for your throttle body. But i do not think they make one for the 3rd gen.
Thanks for helping me make up my mind. Alpha Rex it is
No problem!
Check them out on caliraised led site and use code TRDJON5 to save 5%
Are these plug and play?
Yes
Just ordered some of these. They will go well with the other 40k lumens from Baja and diode dynamics lights on my runner lol. Btw..how come there are no lux/lumen ratings for these? Haven't found any real specs.
I don’t know that would be nice if they did
Jon everytime I watch your videos I feel my pockets get lighter :'( Damn man I was saving up for a motorcycle but I might just have to get these now AHHH Hope you and the family are doing well man :)
You as well man!! Save for that bike bro! Lights are nice looking bike a bike is another community to be apart of.
@@TRDJon Thats true man. A ninja 650 should be in my driveway by the end of the summer :D
Have you decided what head lights are you going to go for your Tundra?
I haven't yet honestly. I have the 3m headlight restoration kit so I'll try that first and then go with an aftermarket brand.
Will these work on a 2012
No but they have some coming for that early 5th gen
What led chip thay used in it ?
Not to sure
TRD JON can you find out for freshly new subscriber 😊 , if you can
I agree with the customer service aspect. It's a huge turn off/on
Can't wait to see how they look shit if they look bad ass i going to get one for my 2019 limited
Can’t wait either man. Sucks the sun don’t set till 8pm now
@@TRDJon I'm gonna watch your video like 3 × so I can get it down pack when I do mine lights
thats why i use stock, stock is always better
I love my stock lights :)
The white plastic DRL looks super cheap though
Looks good but thats a lot of dough for after market headlights😱
FOr the functions it has compared to some of the competition, they are actually priced pretty fairly believe it or not.
@@TRDJon I was thinking it was going to be 1300 for set. I found a pair for around 500. You're right they arent that bad. Thanks!
Try buying stock headlights the price for 1 is over what you would pay for both alpharex
😎👍
Exact reason i went with the pros got LED for hi and went with HID for low and saved 100 plus
Yep. Definitely a solid option for sure. I like that they give you the two product ranges to choose from.
TRD JON if you are accepting requests for future videos there is a company called autoease that makes DIY kits for power lift tailgates for our runners if thats something you might be interested in.
I almost did one from car trim home but they had issues. I’ll look into that though !
Unpopular opinion here, but.. these type of lights just don’t fit the vibe of a 4Runner. These belong on a Lexus GX. 4Runner & LandCruisers should be traditional. Imo, of course
The chrome options they have are very OEM looking too, just with that DRL function. But I agree, it is a very nice product for an old dinosaur 🤣
You were given this? Or did you spend your own money? It's too bias if you were given these.
I bought it
2nd gen morimoto blows alpharex out of the water.
How?
@TRDJon light output is higher. Light is focused down the road not pointed down. Cut off is cleaner like stock. DRL is brighter. Pretty much in every way
Made in China
Ok?
