Don't Waste Your Money on a 2025 Toyota 4Runner

  • Don't waste your money on a brand new 2025 Toyota 4Runner. The new 2025 4Runner TRD Pro and Trailhunter will come with price tags around $69-71K... which is pure insanity for a 4 cylinder turbocharged iForce Max. No thanks! Even the 2025 Toyota 4Runner TRD Off Road, TRD Sport and SR5 will come with price tags in the high 50s and low 60s. In this video I provide my 5 Reasons why I think buying a new 2025 Toyota 4Runner would be foolish. What are your thoughts? Would you agree with these reasons? What did I miss?
People are losing faith in Toyota as they cash in on "green credits"... They cash in on carbon credits from the government at the expense of reliability and longevity. Less is more, true Toyota enthusiasts buy Toyotas for 3 primary reason: 1) Reliability, 2) Simplicity, and 3) Affordability. None of which we find in the new 6th Gen 4Runner.
Let me know your thoughts! As always, I sincerely appreciate you tuning in to watch. If you enjoy this type of content, please consider Liking and Subscribing. Your support doesn't go unnoticed. Thank you!

Traded my 2019 TRD Off Road Premium KDSS unit and purchased a 2024 TRD Pro Underground at MSRP a week ago. Best thing about this purchase was that I only lost $2,900 on the 2019 TRD Off Road from what I purchased it for back in 2019. Great resale. The dealer is actually selling it for more than I originally purchased it for. Love the Pro, the ride is amazing and I wanted the last year of the 5th gen. As someone who has worked for Toyota for the last 13+ years, I recently purchased my 2024 TRD PRO Runner in Midnight Black (had it ceramic coated immediately lol). Although maybe for the PRO trim in certain colors, there were alot more 5th gen 4runners sold than FJ cruisers. Its going to be interesting to see how it plays out as the years pass after end of production.

@@joetaravella13 I’d like to think so since I own one, but the FJ was only in production for 8 years and less common than the 4runner during that time. I feel like I see tons of 4Runners here in Utah, while FJs, while still out there, are becoming more rare. Will take a while before 5th gen 4Runners become rare, imho.

Had a 2000 4 Runner Limited that I absolutely loved. Drove it until our burgeoning family outgrew it. Went to an ‘04 Sequoia, put 175k on it & bought a ‘16 LC(still have), and added a ‘21 Platinum Tundra 2 months ago and a ‘23 Rav for my college bound daughter. Also retained my ‘20 LS500 FSport which replaced my ‘08 LS 460 that was, regrettably, totaled. All got started w/ my ‘99 GS350😊. Guess I’m solidly a Toyota guy, and I’ve never looked back. Will prob add another Rav to the fleet next year when my youngest daughter goes to college. I do still have my Dad’s 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo (125k miles, garaged) & my G-father’s ‘63 GMC, 4-on-the-floor, 3/4t, 4x4 w/ a 305 big-bore Hercules V6 engine w/ 77k original miles on it, also garaged (they’re both deceased now). Short way of saying, I have car issues.😂

I don’t care if the exterior or interior is outdated. I actually prefer the look of the 2024 version. I don’t want a big screen in my car. The smaller screens are great and I can see the navigation just fine. If you can’t “see the navigation properly” on the smaller screens, your eyes probably aren’t good enough to safely drive in the first place. Maybe get glasses? I don’t want blind spot monitoring either. It’s unnecessary and annoying technology for people that actually know how to drive. I don’t want a stressed out turbo 4 cylinder either. I’d prefer a naturally aspirated engine in a vehicle I intend to keep for many years. They are more simple, reliable, and cost less to maintain long-term. I can afford both, I’m just choosing the vehicle I think is better.

Would it have been too difficult for Toyota to introduce change gradually? I wished I had just stomached the payments on a 4Runner instead of buying the RAV4. All these changes with zero fallback options make returning to Ford a little more tempting. We can say that "time will tell" all day, but I still look at those Tundras left on lots as a prime example of what will soon happen to everything else.
I enjoy your content, Untamed! Great info all day long!

It's not just Toyota, pretty much all the manufacturers are going to smaller displacement turbos. N20/B48 in the BMW, Hurricane in the Ram, Ecoboost V6s in the Fords, etc. Some have proven really reliable and produce crazy HP/TQ (the Mercedes M139 is a 2.0T produces up to 469HP and 402TQ). The 2.7 Ecoboost in my F-150 has plenty of power and returns almost 25 MPG on the highway, and the Gen 2 like mine has proven really stout.

Nissan is making a come back in this game, with the frontier , path finder and rumored Xterra return. All naturally aspirated motors. I would 100% buy them over any of the models Toyota is offering right now. I’ve been suspicious about Nissan but the friends I know that got them are truly enjoying them and haven’t had many issues besides some minor recalls. This is why I’m not a brand loyal type of person.

Sounds like 10 years of Kaizen beats zero years of Kaizen.
I’ll add more. The body styling is not necessarily superior to the new model. Perhaps the interior is more up to date on the inside on the new car. It would be like comparing the C6 Z06 Corvette compared to the C7. You look at the newer body style and you say, nice. You look at the old one and you say, sexy. Which is really better? Idk. The interior is better but is it 10k, 20k better? Is the motor really better? Idk, maybe not for sure, wah wah wah.

People are mistakenly thinking that the 2025 4Runner is going to get significantly improved MPG. Think again. The 4 cylinder Turbo is not about improved MPG. It has to do with meeting mandated emission standards. I traded in a 2023 Subaru Outback for my 2024 SR5 2 WD. The Outback was averaging 19 MPG in city only driving. My 4Runner is averaging about the same.

Even with better gas mileage the 2025 may never even pay off the price difference, no less the depreciation and worry factor about transmission issues. I was looking at the new Taco's and 4Runners but for the kind of money they want, I'm now looking at totally restored early 70's Bronco's - way more cool factor and will likely hold value or increase! Plus I can get parts and work on it myself!

I've driven German SUV's for a long time and they make great cars, but the problems start stacking up around 50k miles. I'm sick of it. I guess now that I'm older I'm ready to just have a car for years that I can count on. It's got Apple car play and a/c, and it goes anywhere. What more do you need?

Got my 24 5G4R TRD PRO a couple of days ago in METALLIC BLACK and $1k under MSRP. Had the crack in the engine as well - cosmetic as you say but just wanted to tell you. NO WAY am I getting ANY of the NEW TOYOTA products. TOO MANY problems going on with the other trucks. We have YEARS before I'd get anywhere near those new gen vehicles.
IMO The PLATINUM will be top trim on the 6G4R. Between that and TRAILBLAZER I think the TRD PRO brand will get a beating. I think Toyota will determine that people want to customize their OFFROADER THE WAY THEY WANT TO and the TRAILBLAZER trim will suffer. IMO.
