I recently got an izy for free from a lady who said it was making a strange tapping sound as she put it. Turned out to be a bit of fence wire caught round the blade. All in good working order but the deck needs some work. Great video with great tips. cheers
My self drive on my mower broke yesterday, was ready to junk it after 12 years service but after watching your video seen the belt was off the drive, put back on with a tent peg. Just gotta troubleshoot the irregular starting issues now. Thank you for the video!! 👍👍👍👍
@@MowerMan no click so may be a faulty switch, the arm is moving ok toward the switch. Have to pull it about 10 times to start, once it's going it generally restarts again ok
Thanks to this video my faithful Honda Izy which is at least 20 years old, has been given a new lease of life. I suffered the same no drive issue and this video gave me the confidence to poke around and find the drive belt had slipped off the pulley. You are dead right these little mowers are marvellous and mine bought at Ashley Mowers in Cheshire all those years ago has survived my benign neglect both in England and now in France.
A lot of good tips, thanks..I had a Honda Izy SD..such a shame the bodies rot like hell..and the 16" is the worst for it..and the price of a replacement deck is shocking!! £££ I'm trying to salvage the engine on mine and hopefully mount it on another non Honda body, so wish me luck.
I cut lawns for a living & I power wash the underneath of both of my honda mowers / when I’m working on them I tip them back , both my mowers are in great condition due to this I drain all fluids at the year end sharpen blades etc , thanks to you & Martin & common sense
The best mower on the planet thank god folk dont get it !!!! Made alot of money with these NO I DONT RIP FOLK OFF but folk are silly at times are they not ???? If you have one dont sell it just get it sorted and they are easy to sort trust me The engines will run for ever just look at the wheels if no tread dont buy because a lot of them get used by pro's and are worked to death but death is not a word Honda use because they do not die You can get even the worst up and running if you know how and this fella is telling you how !!
I'm a commercial operator in Australia. When working on my mowers I always tip on the side with the Carbies up. All my mowers have been Honda's. When buying new, I install hour meters for servicing and to work out what blades get the best life etc. You have a great channel and I will have a look at your web site when I have the time.
Another tip if it will not start tip mower on its side pull cord two or three times. This will remove any air from carburettor mine started first time after setting mower flat and pull starting as normal. So try this first before taking things apart.

The belt on my izy had come off and I had a real tussle replacing it. I removed the 4 bolts underneath and the entire engine was then loose. Even with the shroud swung round it was difficult to replace belt.
I love the Honda mowers, parts are cheap, comparatively speaking. After you clean the bottom of the deck, wipe it down with some used motor, nice and sloppy. It’ll drip off and prevent lots of the grass sticking issues. A more thorough cleaning and some sanding and paint. At least $135.00 over here. If you have the bag, $150.00 plus!
I always tip my lawnmowers with the air filter facing up. I then unscrew the fuel or oil cap, place a freezer bag over the hole then screw the cap on over the bag. This stops any spillages for me anyways.
Hi paul, to get the wheels back to white and to get the grass stains off of the decks i use bookers heavy duty degreaser. It brings them up really nice with minimal effort. 👍

Hi Have a McCulloch m40 450 and ita now very good to use thanks to your vids Alsomhave a very old mower that has the bowl style carb so easy to service but the throttle has stuck notbthe cable but the bit where it goes into the engine how does that work Dave

Hello. Thanks for this video. I have the same lawnmower that I can't get started. I have checked the microswitch and I can't hear a clicking sound. Does this mean I need to change the spark plug.

set the valves and make sure the micro switch is connecting whrn you pull the safety lever. (listen for a click)

Sometimes I tip them backwards and use a jack stand to hold the front up. Depends on what job I'm doing on it.

Good pick, Paul. Clean the blade adapter/ drive pulley, paint up the deck, clean the card and oil change, then a payday!

The belt on my izy had come off and I had a real tussle replacing it. I removed the 4 bolts underneath
and the entire engine was then loose. Even with the shroud swung round it was difficult to replace belt.

You can put the belt on without removing anything. Its a little tricky as you showed, but not too hard
