      Every review of the African Twin with the automatic I have seen says the automatic makes it a terrible off-road or Adventure bike. The consensus is the auto is good for the street, dirt roads but not any hard riding.

    Hey all. This was the first H/L episode that I have stayed through the whole show. I will say the comment about Alonzo being outside the motorcycling world,,to me, he is the average guy speaking about the motorcycling world. It was great. Thank you,

    What a fine interview. And finally! A biker who I'm simpatico with. Favorite place is in my helmet; check. Uses his bike for commuting in city with ridiculous traffic; check. Finds loud pipes annoying; check. Comfort considerations (heated anything..); check.

    For someone just learning is it even a good idea to recommend group riding at all? I always encouraged folks to learn to ride either taking classes and riding solo or with 1 or 2 experienced riders who are OK riding with a learner. Big groups don't often encourage good habits in my experience (though I'm a solo rider kind of guy so maybe am more critical than I should be).
    Great show no criticism just want more... and thanks to Revzilla for supporting this content! (and Motul I'd say that I would start using them but 300v is the only thing I've ever used in my Ducati's).
    Suggestion for next season... bikes for small riders. My wife has her license but was intimidated by the bigger bikes she had to ride and the small bikes (250's) were TOO small (she ended up with a Ural where size isn't a factor, but now would like 2 wheel options again). Maybe another women riders episode with a female guest (your Noraly season finale a while back was great). As Alonzo mentioned and many of us agree... would much rather see a woman rider of ANY shape in leathers riding a bike than one in lingerie draped across one.

    I want to pile on to the common sentiment and say this was the best show yet! I really enjoyed hearing Alonzo’s stories and takes on your questions. I was left wanting more and also to give Alonzo my number for the next bike he wants to sell.
    Alonzo I’m looking for a Diavel, Honda Monkey, Ducati Supersport, Ninja 400, BMW R12, Rocket 3, Supermoto

  • @kuhndj67
    @kuhndj67 3 місяці тому +5

    Offroad I use the clutch quite a bit for technical low speed stuff (the way you manage power without a rekluse)... so I'm curious how well an automatic would work in those conditions (when managed slip is needed). I suspect it'll be put on big bikes that won't see this kind of use (don't need to feather the clutch to get into the Starbucks parking lot).
    Love the Buffalo Braves T! I actually had a basketball guy tell me I was lying when I told him Buffalo used to have a pro team.

    • @middlebonejackson
      @middlebonejackson 3 місяці тому

      You leverage the rear brake and engine braking more in more technical situations with DCT. The hand paddle shift really works well.
      I don’t know if I could see it ever being useful on 250/450 sized dual sports or full blown sport bikes but on mid to heavy adventure bikes it’s gonna be very useful.

    Enjoyed Alonzo interview immensely, thanks. But you guys dropped the ball on engine sound. I don’t own a Harley but clearly as soon as key turned, engine stated who it was. Then I heard turbine but not connected mechanically as turbine whistle lagged behind slight throttle blip, so not supercharged. Had to be turbo.

    Ah the final episode of the season, always makes me a little sad. However, if nothing ever came to an end nothing would ever get started. So, HS/LS let's get to another beginnings end! Sean over at Bikes and Beards has a diesel KLR, only diesel motorcycle I've ever seen. Hey, very cool I was once an Aviation Maintenance Technician! My first bike was a 1972 Honda CB450, this guy and I would get on infamously I should think. Yes Spurge, we all know that every motorcycle comes with a built in chick magnet lol! Honestly, I don't think I would ever buy a new bike. Same as with a car let someone else take the hit on the depreciation. Now we know why Nicole married Spurge he's real life safe Jax lol! Alonzo is great you should have him back for "a whole nuther podcast!" I'm thinking it might be the Suzuki M109R. Thought it might be Harley as well but there's a whine in the background that sounds non-American. Very cheeky Chase its that new CVO. So, Alonzo does not stand with Turbo Bruce? Wish I could say see you Get on ADV Fest but thats not in the cards this year. Maybe next year Revzilla will do a Get On ADV Fest giveaway, grand prize will be an all expense paid trip for 2 to Get On ADV Fest in your choice of MOAB or The Black Hills! So, Revzilla if your reading this, and I know that you are, lets make that happen in season 9! Another great show and another great season old sports and see you in season 9!

    42:03 I would say the CB1100 is the spitting image of, not the original early '70s CB750, but more like the '79-'83. The engines look virtually identical (except for the lack of carbs), the frame looks the same, still has exposed twin springs and dampers on the rear...just like my '79 CB750-F. But without any rear bodywork between seat and taillight, so kinda like a mix of the F and the Custom. Still very much an old-school design.

    I recently bought new motorcycle with QS and that thing is a game changer. Automatic transmissons have gone a long way since their beginning and I think it will only benefit riders as we can focus more on riding itself. Other nice benefit is, that even people with disabilities will be able to ride a motorcycle (or riders after heavy accidents will still be able to ride).

    Great stuff fellas!! Alonzo is super funny, passionate about riding, and super knowledgeable about motorcycles. Super solid guy all around. I think I know who crashed his bike too! LOL!! Actually, you guys should do a series of riding around the cities/country and doing things on mc's, like what Norman Reedus did but your own way. That would be pretty dope, funny, knowledgeable and engaging to many, and might be pretty popular series. If you do it, I want in!! lol. As far as a future episode guest, reach out to guitarist Gilby Clarke (Guns n' Roses). He's super cool, passionate and super knowledgeable about mc's, and a really good guy like Alonzo. Be & ride well everyone!!

    The only thing about riding alone is that you are at the mercy of strangers when things go bad. Two of my friends hit deer in the last couple of weeks traveling through PA. Had they been on their own when the accidents happened they would have been laying on their backs in the middle of a back road. Because we were with them (two small groups) we were able to get them help 500miles from home. I definitely don't want anything to do with riding with 50 strangers but seeing your buddy go down in front of you makes you think

  • @middlebonejackson

    Honda's system has a foot shifter option for the dct as well, you'll just never use it when the you realize how good the hand-paddle shift is for manual mode. I'm usually a tradionalist but I think reality is that KTM is doing this because the auto+manual shifter it is actually better for offroad adventure type riding.
    I know it seems "soft" and it takes a little bit to get used to but the first time you do a steep gravel hillclimb with a fully loaded big bike it starts to make sense.

      @@wizardmoto sometimes, you need fear to reach the audience. I've followed both for a long time, and both methods work very well.

    sooooooo........the BEST dualsport all round bike, the honda ct110, has its clutch that in effect you dont need to touch the clutch, but you can
    and thats an old system
    and i see that it is a system that, wouldnt work on the more powerful bikes, and they work, and are popular (in the rest of the world that is, mostly in asia, like, the largest market)
    so this is the next step as tastes change
    also, i would think that a large part of the US market (globally a joke y'all dont drive stick ;) )

    Harley’s biggest impediment certainly is current Harley owners. They are intent on killing the company. I am still waiting for Harley to put the marvelous Revolution engine into a touring bike and not just the adventure bike. Can you imagine a full dress touring bike with that engine and a competent chassis, brakes, etc.
