      Also, the speed camera thing not being run through the police is simply a cash grab by local parking authorities and won’t change anything about speeding in urban zones. You want to change people speeding in dense areas then change the road design to promote slower driving. Cameras with no criminal charges are just for increased taxation.

    I live literally a stone's throw from the 10/405 interchange and a major street artery, and noticed street racing really ramped up since Covid. It's truly gotten pretty wild out there.

    • @SuperShecky
      @SuperShecky 10 місяців тому +2

      @@lovelessissimo No, it blew up that summer after covid first hit. I think everyone was bored. Fireworks got a big bump in popularity, too, probably for the same reason. The fireworks died down fairly quickly, but the street racing still seems to be active, mostly very late at night.
      "Defunding" never really happened most places, certainly not with LAPD. They seem most active when there are enough complaints/coverage about stuff like street racing. But mostly, they seem satisfied to leave well enough alone. LASD is on a whole 'nother level, corrupt as hell, and useless, they have jurisdiction over various sections of LA.

    Oh boy Zach, Spurge, and trivia buckle it up errbody this is going to be bumpy ride lol! Congestion pricing in Manhattan and now speed cameras in California, are we becoming England? Wait, if the police aren't involved how does a private company have the right to fine you for your actions on a public road? Power corrupts and absolute power is Spencers' favorite! Lances' nickname just changed from "The Silver Fox" to "Lifeline Lance" lmao. I had the idea years ago to use those otherwise unengaged road signs for pub trivia questions, help keep drivers alert. (24:34) SPURGEON DUNBAR watch your tongue, this is family show! One more quip like that mister and Chase will have to wash your mouth out with Lifebouy. So, Lance works 50% of the time...every time! For question 8 Treat Williams jumped to mind, right age and right look, but obviously not the right answer. Well, 4 out of 10 for me, epic fail. 1 for 3 on the tiebreakers my motorcycle trivia knowledge is severely lacking. Very fun challenge and episode this needs to come back next season. Thought for sure the prize was going to be a years supply of MOTUL chain paste lol! Don't think I've gotten a rev trivia correct since season 6. All I got is that it sounds like a sport bike and maybe a triple so I take another loss I guess. Sorry hedarson but they need to do an east coast U.S.A. show before they take HS/LS international. I believe Lance wrote and article about his taking a 125cc quite along way to give to his, I believe, nephew. Great article from a great author and as I understand it a great guy. Thanks for making Sunday at work fly by, best podcast out there. Good show old sport see you 2!

    Spurgeon's answer looms was Far better than silk. Silk could have meant any thing from worm farming to dying to Silk sales. Mr. Suzuki made looms that were considered the best in the word. The story is that he was inspired to build a better loom to make the weaving work his mother did easier. The fact that silk is one of the materials that can be weaved on his looms is irrelevant.

      There was one road I had to commute on, had (still has) 4 speed bumps in a 0.9 Mile stretch, speed limit posted is 30, with 1 speed bump approx. ecery 1/4 Mile this meant cagers would go 30, slam brakes, go 3 mph, repeat OR they'd go 10mph the entite way down the road.
      This 0.9 mile stretch had no "deaf kids at play", "slow kids at play", or "blind person" signs, it was not in a school zone, it had no playground or community park next to it, the closest school was about 3 blocks away.
      On my Rebel 250, I rode that entire street doing up to 35mph, on my Honda Shadow I did up to 25mph the entire way, on my KLR650, fuckin sent it doing 40-45mph the entire way.
      Say yes to speedbumps, and you'll be saying yes to more anti-car road design, EMBRACE THE BUMPS!!!!

    As someone who lives 8n England you get used to static cameras and where they are and they're signposted, you only need to slow down for about 50 yards then spees up. Average speed cameras really do work to help with traffic flow but you spend the whole time checking your spees not the road but cruise control fixes that. The real problem ones are tye mobile camera vans that can just pull up anywhere and screw you over and they are never at accident black spots.

    Team HSLS, I’ve got a question. In the world of ADV bikes we all know lighter is better and packing light is generally better but does a lighter rider have an advantage over a heavier rider? I’m 71kg (156 lbs) if I carry say 15 kg (33lbs) of camping kit the bike is carrying the equivalent of 86kg (190lbs) which is the same as most riders, or less, with no equipment. Does “Unsprung” weight make any difference. P.S. love the Podcast. Cheers, Steve.

    • @MotoDash1100
      @MotoDash1100 10 місяців тому +2

      Apples to apples,
      You at 150lbs, and me at 250lbs (6'5" just to clarify), if we're both riding a CRF300L Rally
      You would be able to ride down the trail faster than me, keeping all luggage weights equal (aside from our own bodies).
      Now, does this unsprung weight play much deal with riding up a hill? I'd say yes if it's steep, steeper the hill the more you'd notice it.
      A 250lb man going up a 45 degree incline on a 300cc may rely more on torque, trail lines, and balance than a 150lb man on a 300cc, at 150lbs you're not weighing more than the motorcycle itself, so you wouldn't _need to_ rely on technique if you can just bomb it up the hill in a straight line (in this scenario we're assuming the heavier rider wouldn't be able to go in a straight line up, but rather side-to-side up the hill)
      So, does being lighter weight make a difference? Eh, it increases your top speed, which is useful for straight lines with a good sight line, and useful for steep-steep hills or obstacles, but for slow technical stuff, the lighter-weight is less of a factor.

      @GreenString 10 місяців тому

      @@MotoDash1100 That’s an excellent, clear and well explained reply. Thank you. The reason I posed the question is nobody seems to talk about the rider weight and the affect it has on the bike, only the luggage (inanimate weight). It seems to me strange that a genuine way of assisting a less skilled rider & increasing performance is to lose a bit of excess body weight (if you have any, which I’d argue most of us have). Surely this has to be the cheapest upgrade you can do? Again thanks for your reply, much appreciated.

    • @jimtitt3571
      @jimtitt3571 10 місяців тому +1

      @@GreenStringSince you are talking about ADV bikes then offroad and all rules go out of the window since the heavier rider (given equal fitness) has more strength and mass to force the bike in the direction they want. I took over our teams 125 ride at the last moment due to injury and with my delicate 220lbs and entire career on big-bore bikes the thing was like a toy, got my best ever result (4th) in an international enduro. It got stuck I could literally pick it up and throw it, getting out of shape I changed course and the bike had to follow and naturally traction was no problem.

    • @GreenString
      @GreenString 10 місяців тому

      @@jimtitt3571Jim, thanks for your responses mate.This is why I posted the question. Your response is pretty much the opposite of the other reply I got. I’ve heard both theories. Anyway, I hope Revzilla debate it on a future podcast. Stay safe mate

    • @jimtitt3571
      @jimtitt3571 10 місяців тому +1

      @@GreenString I guess I should have explained, a light rider has to learn to ride with finesse and use what they have, a heavier rider can do it another way, combining both finesse and strength is obviously th optimum. But dead weight on the bike is a real killer, a couple of pounds in the tank or in your luggage changes the way the whole bike feels or reacts once you push the speed up, it's just dead weight that is doing nothing to control the bike and is trying to control the rider instead. I ADV on a 450EXC and set the bike up for the camping gear so harder springs front and back and most important (once you get the suspension set up and I don't mean that soft and responsive setting half the guys go for) is balance, I load to keep the front/rear weight bias the same as stock. Watch a thousand videos and watch the front ends pushing before they crash because the 20kg on the back overpowers the front end (made extra worse by the usual ADV bikes raked out front end in the search for stability on the highway).

Result is everyone going speed limit just in case. It is also pretty much only inside the villages so no one can really argue against that.

      Outside of the villages though, we had trucks overtaking us as we rode the limit on our holiday. We adjusted quickly to some of the more suggested speed limits 😃

    Here is a suggestion for the next one. For each question phone someone to participate in that answer. People like Peter Eagan for one question, and other cyclists for other questions. Not each other.

    Here in BC canada you lose your bike and huge points and jail time and massive fine going way above the limit . Red cameras in school zones and in towns .

    From the U.K. I would advise care with enthusiasm for @the new speed cameras… Of course you think that outside a school that it’s a good idea and you are already arguing for higher penalties. Do you see how the psychology works?? In a few years every urban road is a 20 limit and 4 strikes and your licence is gone, plus it cost you a percentage of your income in points but you wanted that apparently. Aside from that is anyone else thinking M M M Max Headroom, the guest is too young to remember but he could be the mystery actor otherwise.

    I took a 1981 Suzuki GS450 from New Britain CT to Ottawa Canada via the Catskills and Adirondacks in NY and back on a long weekend. 1000 plus miles. My friend did the trip next to me on a 2006 Suzuki SV650. Two rather inappropriate touring bikes, GIVE US T SHIRTS!!

    Can't finish this to see who wins but you all win the award for stretching what should be a 10 minute game into a long winded and extremely painful experience. Was the word padding, stalling, and repeating supposed to be funny?

    If you're doing 99mph in a school zone, a $500 fine should be the least of your worries. You should be facing license revocation and jail time.

    Speed cameras won't stop accidents, but it will make those companies a lot of money. Safety is always the excuse, never the real reason. #stop-the-overreach #more-laws-dont-make-us-safe
