Thanks so much for this excellent tutorial! I was connecting my Samsung soundbar to my LG TV. It had worked in the past, so I figured some system updates must have messed up the settings. But NO! Turns out it was the silly little DVD player that I’d connected just to watch an old DVD some time ago! Your tip about removing all other HDMI cables (specifically mentioning DVD players) worked a treat!

Great information. If it all doesn't work, unplug it all and "re-plug". That worked for me.

I connected the samsung hw-q800b soundbar to the pc via hdmi from the soundbar, not earc, (earc doesn't work) to the hdmi 2.1 port of the nvidia 2060 video card and i use the display port on the video card for video, on a philips monitor 32 inch curved. And I have atmosphere in the movies that have atmosphere, which I did not expect. I am writing this to help those who want to connect a soundbar to a PC. It seems that you don't necessarily need earc? That's how it works for me. When the movies have atmos, dolby atmos is displayed on the soundbar display and the sound is atmos. Good luck to everyone who hits on the soundbar and PC.
Correct. eARC is only for connecting to a TV to get Atmos from the in built streaming apps or anything else connected to that TV. When it comes to a PC, you’re bypassing eARC and plugging your PC through the HDMI IN port on the Soundbar. Hey mate. I have a newish LG Smart TV (bought in the last 2 years) and was just given a Philips HTS8100 Soundbar (think it's like 15 years old). It only says HDMI Out on the back of the soundbar but my TV supports ARC. When I put a DVD into the soundbar the audio works perfectly fine but when trying to use Netflix, Disney+ apps etc on the TV there's no audio. I've fiddled with absolutely every setting so I guess I'm wondering 1. is this soundbar too old for my TV? and 2. why won't my TV's apps play audio through the soundbar? Any help would be much appreciated.
Very helpful tutorial. I didn't realize my tv was set to PCM, but now that it is set to bitstream, the sound is amazing. Unfortunately I now have lip sync problems that I can't cure, even using the app.

@@archwaytech I have an LG SP9YA with optional rear speakers and a 50" Panasonic tv that doesn't have eArc unfortunately. Time for an upgrade!
My home theater system has only hdmi, not ARC. However my TV does have ARC. What is the best way to set it up? Would the sound quality be reduced? Thanks.

Got a head scratcher for ya. I have to turn EARC off on my TV and soundbar to get ATMOS on netflix. Otherwise I get a MC-PCM signal sent to the soundbar

@@archwaytech i recently changed from a samsung to a Hitachi 58”. Its a lesser TV but has Dobly Vision where the samsung didnt. I run audio to a Sony HT-G700. I know its not ‘true’ Atmos but it’ll receive an Atmos signal and do a ‘virtualisation’ thing. Im using the TV’s Netfliz app and not a firestick or aplle tv etc

I purchased an samsung q800t soundbar and subwoofer ,and i can not connect the subwoofer at all, i updated the firmware and i tried unplug ,plug them back individually and still no luck,i contacted samsung customer service and they can not help ,i need to contact a private company that will cost a bit,can someone have any ideea why my subwoofer is showing blue light bleeping and does not wants to connect to my soundbar :(..
My older ( not a dino) samsung has arc.basic advice ive recieved is earc is only useful to gamers ...your opininion.
Or people who have an Atmos capable Soundbar and TV that want the best audio through their setup. EARC is also great for movie lovers- especially those the love action movies.

@Archway Tech: Need some urgent advice/help. I just bought(01/23/23) the below Sonos Home Theater System but did not unpack yet. Now I see that the below Bose system went on sale. Its $300 cheaper than Sonos right now. I bought a home theater system for the first time and liked Sonos based on its echo system, connectivity and reviews. But now keeping the Bose price drop in mind should I keep the Sonos or return it for Bose ? Any advice is really appreciated.

I would stick with the Sonos. You’ve already got it, there’s clearly a few reasons you chose Sonos over Bose and the Sonos is a really good system. Open it up and start enjoying it 😊
