- Make watching TV easier and better by connecting and setting up HDMI (ARC). Complete steps to Connecting a Soundbar to a TV Using HDMI ARC. The Audio Return Channel (ARC) allows control of the Soundbar volume from the TV Remote, actual Surround Sound not just left right stereo, and easier use of your TV and sound system.
Thank you very much for the good description. I could connect my ARC HDMI to the new soyndbar thanks to your video. Will definitely recommend it!
I was about to give up on my Roku stick because nothing was helping until I came across this video! Thank you so so much for posting this. Definitely helped with troubleshooting
Outstandingly straightforward with clear and concise explanations. My Sonos system has never worked properly and now I think I can get it functional. Thank you so much.
Excellent video I was pulling my hair out all the videos I watched and nothing was working .... I don’t even have a Sonos sound bar but I got done cheers mate
Thanks brother. I was going crazy not getting any sound till you shot me the CEC info. Sound came right on! Thank you.
I spend years trying to get my sounds bar to work via HMDI just for sound while another HDMI to my sky box. This helped me get it working as I didn;t have the CEC/Arc turned on in my TV
Ever so awesome. My new tv is vastly different from my last tv(w.r.t. back panel input and output. My last tv is 10 years old and looms like a stereo reciever). The acronyms are not even logical - I'm glad I watched this. I seen the menu items but wasn't connecting the dots....lol
Thanks for the great video
So, my post below was not accurate. DirecTV was wrong. After watching this video, I found an adjustment on my TV settings and now all of my DirectTV channels have sound,
Great video!
Thanks a lot! Very helpful video! with the digital audio output setting as Dolby output, the soundbar didn't work but was making noises. After I changed the type of digital audio output (under the sound setting on my TV ) from Dolby to PCM, the soundbar works with the HDMI cable connection.
Wow , I've been messing about with settings for days , and trying different leads and stuff .
Watched your video, all done and up and running like a dream in seconds.
THANKS VERY MUCH mate ❤️
Really appreciate it 😊
Hey that’s awesome news. Thanks for sharing that
@@Allabouthomeelectronicswhat if we don’t have ARC. and only got HDMI 3 or HDMI 2 or HDMI 1?
Thank you showing what settings needed to be changed on the tv fixed my issue great and helpful vid
Thank you! Your video helped me recently to fix an issue after moving houses recently.
Perfect!!! Thank you. This worked once I enabled the CEC setting and PCM mode on both the TV and sound bar. Very easy video to follow
Thanks for this video so helpful specially if you own a Vizio TV
This the only video that actually helped thanks
Thanks dude very much just had to plug into the one that said arc next to the hdmi :)
Thank you so much! This video helped me connect my JBL 2.0 all in one sound bar!!!!!
Exactly what we need. We are connecting a SoundTouch 300 sound bar to a Samsung 65 inch class CU7000 UHD. Something that we've never done before, so we hope that this will be the exact information we need. 😅
Thank you!!! Much appreciate it. The CEC setting worked for me
Thank Sir for sharing such useful information.
Best suggestion was checking the CEC setting in the TV. Once I turned that on and had the TV search for the sound bar it started working.
👍👍👍👍👍👍
@@JRG-2018 using what remote
Thank you so much
Thank you for your help, to the point and bingo..... thanks again
The confusion I always have with ARC is not how it got connected. For example on the TV HDMI1 is ARC, HDMI2 (connected to Apple TV 4K), and HDMI3 (connected to a PS4).
If I connect HDMI1 (ARC) to the soundbar, will the soundbar work if I switch to HDMI2 or HDMI3 when I want to use the other devices?
Yes been wondering this myself
I was assuming just connect HDMI and it should work. Really good instructions. Thank you
Ohhh, you're my hero of the week! Thanks a lot!
I’ve got Samsung TV and has hdmi 2 for arc and I presume you just run a hdmi lead from the soundbar to that port and then a PS4 that is in hdmi 1 or say firestick in hdmi 3 will run the picture on those ports and use hdmi 2 for audio? Sorry usually I use digital co axial of optical and this is new to me.
I did my SAMSUNG 6500 into 8000 TV and it does not need to be the TV-ARC slot. Any of them do work with the TV remote. What ARC is needed is OUT of the Soundbar. A Optical Cablecis also needed for mine as it always switches ON to the D.IN but now it all w
orks with both used.
I had got it working with the TV-ARC firstly but it works using the one that isn't also.
I will try next time to use Add Speaker for ARC if it does not need the Optical also but i had tried allsorts prior the combined method.
Thank you for this video. Instructions worked great.
Thank you, Audrey
definitely worked for me thanks dude ❤😊
We have done this with our Samsung TV and Samsung soundbar. Every time we re-start the TV, we have to go back in and manually start the soundbar again. It goes back to TV speaker every time.
What are we doing wrong? Thanks
Are you still having this issue? We are experiencing the same thing!
Status?
So where does the video signal enter the system from? does it need to go to a different HDMI input on the TV? does the Soundbar have the HDMI input port? Does using ARC "use up" 2 of your HDMI ports on the tv?
IF for example you have a TV Firestick, you can plug that into a HDMI slot on your TV (NOT the HDMI marked ARC). Better yet, you can plug your Firestick directly into the soundbar IF your soundbar has a HDMI input slot (NOT an output slot). By plugging it directly into the soundbar, you will probably avoid any lip syncing delay problems. So you use one HDMI on your TV to plug into HDMI (ARC) and you can use another HDMI on your TV to plug in your firestick or something else for the video.
(I am not a newbie on this, but I do believe this to be accurate based on what I have seen on one of the other great videos he has made) Just moving it forward to whoever might need help on your question.
Hdmi arc gives 5.1 surround sound?
It’s “capable,” yes.
And what's about optical wire?
@@adrianasanchez4041 optical also provides 5.1 surround sound
PCM is only stereo, always connect using bitstream for dolby digital, DTS, or higher.
Thanks for the knowledge, this video was helpful I followed the instructions and was able to connect my TV to my Sound bar successfully...
This is very helpful
Hi. I have a soundbar with HDMI ARC port but my TV doesn't have HDMI ARC port but has the normal HDMI port. Will the soundbar work fine if I connect it to my TV's normal HDMI port?
We're you able to work this out? I would appreciate your help... I have the same issue and my sound bar does not reproduce the audio from my TV... Dont know what to do :(

I have a Sonos Playbar, The playbar only support optical and i have LG E8 65" with ARC, If i purchase the Sonos optical to HDMi adapter and connect the optical to my Playbar and connect a HDMi cable to ARC will it reduce or enhance the sound?
ANDRE MONROE I would be keen to know this too. Sucks when you’re watching regular tv and movies
Good video. Been trying to figure it out for a while and now that I understand i realize that it is pretty useless.
Excuse me, can you help me? I have a philips HTL3120 / 12, when I connect to the TV via hdmi cable it says no signal. what should I do?
Thank you so much really helpful and detailed video, it worked for me perfectly fine
My new SONOS ARC soundbar plays most channels well through my DirecTV satellite. However, if I go to the 800+ channels which are music, I get no sound. SONOS says it's not their product as it works with the lower TV channels. I called and got DirecTV technical support and they told me that some of their channels do not support ARC! However, they don't even know which ones - it;s hit or miss.
After watching this video, I am going to check my SONY Bravia to see if the settings are adjusted but for now I am led to believe that I will not be able to play the music channels from Direct on my SONOS.
What about if you have other accessories? For example as in my case: TV, Receiver, Soundbar, Playstation Console, Headphones with base station (for gaming).
How do you connect those various devices/equipment?
And you just switch the channel to the one that includes the PS4 and play with quality sound?
Hi all about home, wandering if you can upload a vid of how to set up a sound bar w/ subwoofer ,the unit is an LG SL9YG w/ meridian, don't know what that is, you think you can help, before il take it back to the store, thanks.
So if you connect a soundbar to the TV's HDMI input how do you connect your cable box to the TV?
Your TV needs multiple Hdmi connections. Most have at least 2.
A big help! Many thanks.....
If I choose an Optical cable to soundbar can I control it with my TV remote?
Unfortunately, no. Optical is only for audio.
@@Allabouthomeelectronics thank you
You need ARC if using a DVD/BLUERAY Player to go thru the TV to Soundbar due to perhaps Optical Cable does not allow this??? I'd like to know thanks...
I see you mention it allows SURROUND Thu-put but it allows Stereo from other devices to pass thru?
I have what might be a dumb question. I just bought a JBL 9.1 unit. It has two HDMI ports in back, one says TV arc, the other is like for blue ray or whatever. From what I see, it looks like you plug this TV port to the TV HDMI arc port...ok, I have Direct TV, which has an HDMI cable as well, where does that cable go? I currently have a Denon receiver, with 5 HDMI ports, that I want to get rid of
connect ARC to ARC. Connect Direct TV to any “non” ARC port. Make sure ARC in enable both in TV & 9.1 ( “might” be a bit elusive to find & do). Make sure (you likely already know this) both TV & 9.1 respectively set to the input (using respective remotes) you intend to view/hear
PS: not a dumb question!
I have a Vizio tv and a Samsung sound at. Can’t get Cecil to stay on enabled. Using pcm. Also trued bitstream
Question: I just received a Yamaha soundbar and a SHU sub... I tried hooking it up to my bedroom TV (Sony A9S Oled 48"), The light's are on on the Sub, I have the sub connected to the Soundbar but there's no sound from the sub. The soundbar plays but not the sub.
Suggestions?
Thank you
Joe
So what's the HDMI Out option which some soundbars have? Am hoping it's to connect a Roku Ultra or 4K Fire Stick, as my TV has only two HDMI inputs & one is for ARC. It would be great if that output works with ARC to return to the TV, if not, don't know what it's for. Unless possibly stereo receiver, however many would want better sound than what many of the bars offers. Especially those under the $200 range.
What setting is the sound bar on? HDMI or
Great video , you helped me a lot
Nice simple explanation.
thank you for sharing this video
My TV doesn't have HDMI arc but my Soundbar has HDMI ARC port. There is only one HDMI port on my soundbar. Can i use an HDMI splitter to send one signal to my TV and One to my Soundbar? So video plays on tv and sound plays on sound bar
I recently purchased blaunkpunkt sba01 soundbar & connect to Mi tv..... Both device hve HDMI port.....i use settop box which doesn't hve HDMI port, connected to my tv..... Connecting my tv to sound bar through HDMI cable gives Zero output sound..... Plz help me
I followed your directions to the t I have my Bose soundbar plugged into the HDMI ark in the back of my Vizio TV E-Series 70 in. Now when I turn my TV on it jumps over to hdim Arc Bose I have it named it jumps to bose ark HDMI . It does the same thing when I fire up my fire stick it jumps to the sound bar . It starts up with the TV and then jumps to the arc HDMI Bose what would cause that . If you can understand this please let me know LOL.
Now I want to add a 4k fire stick.
So I plug it into the soundbar or the tv hdmi ?
Soundbar doesn’t support 4k or Dolby atmos
GREAT VIDEO, IT HELP ME A LOT. ANY MORE HELP IF I FOLLOWED UR DIRECTION IT WORKED TURN OFF THE SYSTEM CAME BACK A FEW HOURS IT LOST ITS CONNECTION AND WHEN I REPEAT THE PROCESS IT DOESE NOT DISCOVER THE DEVICE ANY MORE. ANY HELP?
If my tv is hdmi arc and the surround sound is hdmi AV out is there no way to connect it ? It’s an older surround sound.
Did everything correctly, soundbar via ARC as well as optical, neither one allow me to control the soundbar w/ the Vizio TV remote ?! I go into TV settings & CEC detect, it picks up my Fire Cube but not my soundbar. I'll chalk it up to the cheap lesser known brand VMAI soundbar.
Thank you 🙏
If i haven't ARC !! What I'm doing!!
My tv control does not have a menu button on it. How do I get to the tv menu? It's a 60" vizio?
Satellite speakers are not working with HDMI ARC, please guide
Seems easy. Although I don't have a Soundbar yet but, I will. Luckily I have a 55 TCL Roku TV that has HDMI ARC. Otherwise, I'm gonna have to connect a soundbar in a different way which might be more complicated.
Change cec setting helped.yessss.
My PS5's HDMI Cable is eARC rated and EDID Version 2.1, however, my TV has an eARC socket, which a 4K HDMI Splitter is plugged into, but the TV is EDID Version 2.0.
This is ok, because the PS5 will run the HDMI signal as compatible with 2.0.
How on the lords green earth do you send the audio that is sent to the TV to the soundbar from a Splitter to the soundbar?
Hey got a question I got a 5.1ch soundbar and it's hooked up by HDMI ARC and I was wondering if I could hook up another soundbar using a HDMI splitter so I can plug it in the HDMI ARC spot and then plug both the soundbars in the 2 HDMI inputs on the splitter cable. Would this work?
My sound bar only has one HDMI port and my non smart led TV has two HDMI ports. How do i connect my fire stick to the sound bar. ?
i have a 2013 Sony Bravia 40" and it seems to have a HDMI cable with ARC 👍🏾 am i able to connect one HDMI cable to the blu ray and the HDMI with ARC to my speaker & cable box? or will a TV need 3 HDMI cables for complete set up? i know my other option for the audio is using the optic cable, yes?
Optical is an option
@@Allabouthomeelectronics thanks for the quick reply. too bad my TV does not have 3 HDMI ports. i might look into a wireless 2 ch or 2.1 soundbar so i have less cords hanging around.
Thank you! oh yeah, now I have the sound and as Vickie said, it was the CEC setting that did the trick
Hi I just brought a Sony kD65A8 Tv and Sonos beam and a blu ray player what’s best way to connect all 3 up to get the best out of them many thanks nick

I have a Sharp Aquos and am using the optical connection to the sound bar. My problem is when I turn the sound up on the sound bar the TV sound also turns up with it which causes feedback. How do I turn off the internal speakers of the television? Thanks.......
Often, although not always, there’s an option within the TV’s Menu>Audio>Turn off speakers (OR) External Speakers
Video helped thanks
Good job. Thank you !
So can we connect Xbox, Sky Q box or Blue-ray player in HDMI 2/3/4 (non arc) ports? and sound will still work? Cheers
Yes, it should.
@@Allabouthomeelectronics Thank you appreciate it, also on your quick response.
I have arc on my Samsung 4K tv and just got a Yamaha sound bar that has it. However I plug it in and the tv recognizes it abd I select it in the settings. Hit volume up on tv remote see it increasing and looks good. But no good, no sound. I set the sound bar to hdmi mode so I am confused. It works fine with the optical cable it came with. But I’d like to be able to use my tv remote to control volume. Is it possible the sound bar has a defective hdmi arc input jack? It was a “renewed” Yamaha sound bar. I guess I’ll have to see about returning it or live with the optical cable and using two remotes. Always something,
Did you enable CEC within your TV settings? Does your TV have an “external speakers setting”?
Dolby Atmos this Dolby Atmos that, I think people should be made aware if you buy any kind of Dolby Atmos soundbar or AV/receiver to use through streaming you need to get yourself at least £1,000 TV (lg OLED 2017+ or other brand oled makers 2018 or newer) the only other option to receive Dolby Atmos would be through a Blu-ray player! and I don't think most people want to start buying discs!
The industry should be better regulated so people are not miss-informed or missguided
Omg thank you!!!
Hi I had a question. Trying to connect using the ARC using a Sharp TV and Yamaha Soundbar ATS 1080. As in background I feed in to the soundbar (previously to the tV) using my Roku and a HDMI. However once I use this configuration the picture quality only works at 720 P as opposed to 1080 when the Roku feeds into the TV directly. Is this a HDMI cable issue or is there another fix. Thanks for any insight around this.
great setup. thanks
What's that app is that we have to use
My tv said I need to register Cec so how do I do that

Many people will face problems in connecting a soundbar to Mi TV using HDMI ARC. Most of these problems are because of the HDMI cable used might be an older version and not ARC compliant.
Replacing the HDMI cable with a newer version, like BlueRigger, should help.
