    Strange how the long jump standard has dropped into Decathlon range in the last few Olympics. Its not like the sprinters and steroids have declined, maybe they all go to the NBA instead? But at least now there are some great longjumpers like Echeverria who has jumped 8.90 windy, youd never see Rutherford get anywhere near that no matter how windy.
    Since the amazing battle between Cal Lewis and Mike Powell the long jump has been a premier event and Pedrosa was the last great to win Olympic Gold and was unfortunate to be screwed out of a legitimate WR of 8.96 because the organizers didnt want to give away a prize car (not at that Olympics)
    Athletes capable of 8.70+ do exist, its a shame Athletics isnt as popular as it should be otherwise we would see these guys and not just one or two that are capable of this.

    • @Upthebroncos310
      @Upthebroncos310 2 роки тому +1

      Screwed out of the WR? The jump was wind assisted if I remember correctly, please explain how he was screwed? I’m curious to know

    • @cattycats4
      @cattycats4 2 роки тому +5

      @@Upthebroncos310 the wind meter was working and showed legal wind but the organizers had offered a prize of a brand new car to anyone who broke a world record that day so when he jumped 8m96 they called it "wind reading obstructed" as a technicality so they didnt have to pay the prize as it wouldnt be deemed an official world record even though it was a lie told by the organizers as the wind reading wasnt actually obstructed at all , its officially recorded as 8.96 with +1.2 wind

    • @Upthebroncos310
      @Upthebroncos310 2 роки тому +4

      @@cattycats4 seriously? That’s fucked up, all because they didn’t want to give away a car, if you don’t want to give away a car don’t offer one up, I’d be pissed if I was him. I remember the jump I just honestly thought it was wind assisted, either way it’s still a massive jump.
