I love this song and I still love that line of the song "For time is a river rolling into nowhere . We must live while we can. And we'll drink our cup of laughter" And you hit the nail on the head on that one Jamel! The little things in life, the little things money can't buy! Thank you for reacting to this song! Peace! ✌☮
Jamel!! You will LOVE Bruce Hornsby and the Range! Every song off their debut CD is pure gold!! Pick one and enjoy! Mandolin Rain was popular but its nit my fave. You like lyrics so check out The Way It Is
Man, what an amazing musician. He can play, write his butt off and sing like nobody's business. What an album. Thanks Jamal. Have some leftovers for me. Cheers! Island records huh? Traffic was on Island records too.
Lot's of people are saying "When You See A Chance"; yes great song; but so are "Luck's In" or "Vacant Chair". Steve Winwood shares a quality with Van Morrison - and that is their music bypasses the outer shell and goes straight to the soul, where it hits the love/joy area. peace - out
I liked Steve Winwood when he was a big deal, but it was more for the rhythm and melody, but I was too young to really appreciate the lyrics. Nice to listen to them now that I’m a bit more mature and experienced. It also brings me back to when this song was released. Good times
This is my favorite song from Steve's spectacular solo career (it's a tight race with "While You See a Chance). Your reaction was excellent as always, Jamel, but sadly, this version of the video is edited to death (his killer Moog solo is chopped out!), so check out the album cut sometime; you will not be disappointed. On another note, something I have come to enjoy about your channel is the zeal with which you appreciate music you're hearing for the first time. I've loved Steve's music since my pre-teens and over all this time, I simply take for granted that his music is always there in my life and it's always spectacular. But seeing you react to Steve and countless other artists I admire reminds me what made me love their music in the first place and gives me a new appreciation for it. So, thank you, Jamel - you've given me a great reason to dive back into all of my music and re-appreciate it. Happy Thanksgiving to you, my friend.
Been waiting for this for a long time! Steve partnered with a great lyricist named Will Jennings for many years! Will wrote the lyrics for 3 of Steves albums! He also wrote the lyrics for Celine Dions and the movie Titanic My Heart Will Go ON! He has won Grammys Emmys and a couple Oscars for his lyrics!
This song is one of my all-time favorite songs. Thank you Jamel for doing a reaction with good sound quality of this song the way I remember it back in the day !!! P.S. this song is longer with a great synth solo. But, the video was cut short (not by Jamel) but by whoever uploaded the this video. What a shame. Jamel would have LOOOVED that solo !!! This entire album also called The Finer Things has a lot of great songs and the sound quality is insanely good considering it is from 1987.
Let me add my voice to the call for some reactions to Bruce Hornsby and the Range!!! I go back to that debut album time and time again. Soulful lyrics and incredible musicianship, especially Bruce himself on the piano. Jamel, you will absolutely love it!!
The wiki page says both James Ingram and Dan Hartman sang backup on this track. That is some serious talent right there. Give Hartman's solo song " I Can Dream About You" a try, it's another great 80's pop song.
Jamal I love how you actually listen to lyrics and break down a song. Most of these other people who react don’t seem to even listen to what the song says. I also enjoy seeing the joy in your face when you like a song! Keep doing this!
This song could be your anthem for sure. Keep being person you are because you're wonderful 👏 (I have noticed that you are a hero to many and you should be very proud)
Dammmnnnnn!!!!!!!!!!! There has been great singer artist like Barbara Streisand, Liza Minnelli, Paul McCartney, the Beatles, Paul Simon, Elton John, Michael Jackson/the Jacksons, Stevie Wonder, Julie Andrews, Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, Sammy Davis Jr. and even Petula Clark that will be always great for all the generations: but as for Steve Winwood, he'll take all the fans of the years of all of this and other generations by the storm by surprise, and he'll take your breadth away, if you don't watch it.
Steeeeeeeevie!!!❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️ And have walked the bitter streets alone...🥺 Yep, J. The man has a way with words!! Reminds me. Jackson Browne’s Sky Blue and Black. Acoustic on BTV Spain. Oh, J. The lyrics. The lyrics. The lyrics...And our sky was unfolding...And it’ll never fold back again.
steve winwood music to me, is always rich--musically and certainly lyrically too! and glad for you to share your discoveries with us..is cuz it's a nice walk down memory lane but also just cuz good things still need to be passed on. yes indeed keep good music alive jamel!!
Wow haven’t heard this song in a minute. Love his voice. So happy I got to grow up through the ‘70s, ‘80s and ‘90s. Had an endless amount of awesome music to listen to.
The 1st stanza hits home, and it hits hard. My book "Nostalgia" includes those lyrics as an epigraph, setting the tone for a fiction novel dealing with the pain of wanting to return to the past.
This song hit the radio when I was 13, and at that time, my first reaction to the dreamy 25 second instrumental intro was goosebumps. Something emotional. At age 50 my reaction is the same.
Jamel, What an excellent analysis and reaction you have here on Steve Winwood's song, "The Finer Things". Steve was a master musician, songwriter, and singer as a teenager, and has gotten more soulful with time. Thank you for your super video on one of the greats.
Did I not tell you that the answers that you sought were spread through his career? I am so glad you're enjoying him as much as I do. I love your channel, and I look forward daily to your postings. Love and Light, Stay you!
Steve Winwood, another amazing musician from the 60's. I saw him live in the 90's when this song was popular. He toured with Robert Cray, another amazing musician.
No material brother. All soul and laughter. Absolutely. right. Regular life now I understand. Took me fifty years. But I now understand. Drink a cup of laughter.
Here is the issue with society these days. Where has music like this gone? We have lost the ability to be genuine, happy, and that ability to laugh and love. Bring back the 80's and hell even the 90's
I would know that mellow Steve Winwood synth sound anywhere. It's as identifiable as Eddie Van Halen's "brown sound" or John Bonham's snare. Still gotta do "While You See A Chance." More lyrics that will hit you right in the peace and love.
It seems this song is often overlooked but it's one of my favorites. (I prefer the version with the longer ending though. Dancing...dancing...dancing wo-oh..)

Also "Don't You Know What the Night Can Do?" also by Steve Winwood
Steve’s voice is pure 80s for me. This song is burned in my childhood.
For some of us his voice is pure 60's and 70's
Same! Kid of the 80s!
‘And we”ll drink our cup of laughter...’. Amen, Steve Winwood.
This is one those songs that, when I hear the first notes of the intro, I just relax into the song.
Roland D50
Steve Winwood full of soul...always was. Great musician, songwriter, and singer
I knew this song would fit your personality as soon as you discovered the great Steve winwood!
This was a great song but I`m going to keep bugging you for While You See A Chance..it was always my fave by him!
I concur, you need to hear this song!
My favorite also!!
He’s saving the best for last lol
Agree!
Yup one of my faves too!!!
"Valerie"is another one of his songs that is tasty
Iv noticed jamel the more you hear old steve the more you like him . Your not alone there🤣🙋♂️
Funny how certain songs, bring you immediately back to a certain person, place and time!!!
It’s all good!!!! And Jamel love you! keep on keepin on ✌️
Smiles are contagious be a carrier
Jamel, I love how you call everyone brother and sister ... that's how I feel in my heart, too. Be blessed, dear one. You're a light in this world :)
Yes Jamel, you are!
I totally agree, I love it. Thank you, Jamel ✨🌷💖
King of Reactions!!!
I love this song and I still love that line of the song "For time is a river rolling into nowhere
. We must live while we can. And we'll drink our cup of laughter" And you hit the nail on the head on that one Jamel! The little things in life, the little things money can't buy! Thank you for reacting to this song! Peace! ✌☮
and the "little things" really are the big, most important things, yes? I think our culture has it's values in the wrong place.
One of my fav Winwood tunes. And I grew up playing "Can't find my way home" on acoustic.
I love Steve Winwood and Can't find my way home is my favorite of all of his songs.
Isn't this song so wonderful...Love Steve's voice..
Beautiful voice love all of his songs
Your Winwood exploration wouldn’t be complete without this one. Suggest “Mandolin Rain” by Bruce Hornsby and the Range.
That's bizarre... I was literally going to leave a comment saying this song reminds me of Mandolin Rain
YES !
Jamel!! You will LOVE Bruce Hornsby and the Range! Every song off their debut CD is pure gold!! Pick one and enjoy! Mandolin Rain was popular but its nit my fave. You like lyrics so check out The Way It Is
And a pile of Bruce Tunes too. That whole album was excellent!!
@@lp8469 Not to mention Bruce is an emeritus member of the Grateful Dead! (~);}
His voice is considered “Finer Things” as far as I’m concerned ♥️🎤🥰
STEVE WINWOOD - “WHILE YOU SEE A CHANCE” Fantastic!! Great Organ, and Sax!
Steve Winwood is a world treasure, plain and simple. He's left the world a better place.
One of my favorite songs EVER. Such great lyrics. :)
For another positive song, do “Things Can Only Get Better” from Howard Jones.
Yes yes yes!!
100%
I have to laugh because Jamal said Everlasting Love in his description of Finer Things...and it made me want to suggest Everlasting Love by HOJO
Man, what an amazing musician. He can play, write his butt off and sing like nobody's business. What an album. Thanks Jamal. Have some leftovers for me. Cheers! Island records huh? Traffic was on Island records too.
So young, but I remember I love his music. Literal soul music! Pure 80s Americana nostalgia 💗
Lot's of people are saying "When You See A Chance"; yes great song; but so are "Luck's In" or "Vacant Chair".
Steve Winwood shares a quality with Van Morrison - and that is their music bypasses the outer shell and goes straight to the soul, where it hits the love/joy area.
peace - out

Agree 100%
It's so great to see someone young discover his music and love it for what it is. The sound may be a little dated, but the message is timeless!
The Steve Winwood song you have to do is While you see a chance. Keep up the good work & ignore the moaners!
They don’t make music like that anymore the best voice I heard in a long time just great
Steve Winwood and Dirty Dancin' ... the pinnacle of the 1980's! ❤
God bless him and his talent ❣️ A gift to all of us 🙏
While You See a Chance is another good one.
When you’re sitting in the dentist chair and this comes on, it’s so good, you don’t even care about that drill.
Lol
💯
Please react to While You See a Chance by Steve Winwood.
This song reminds me of what my Daddy use to say...he'd rather have 1000 smiles in his heart than $1000 in his pocket.
Love Steve Winwood! You gotta hear him with Blind Faith "Presence Of The Lord" such a great song with Eric Clapton on guitar.
This song is one of my all-time favorite songs. Thank you Jamel for doing a reaction with good sound quality of this song the way I remember it back in the day !!! Lyrics that the 17-year-old me didn't completely understand the way my 51-year-old self does.
I’ve seen Winwood silence an entire theatre. Incredible moment. You could hear a pin drop it was dead silent. Such a rare occurrence these days.
I am so glad you see the value in this song. Such a beautiful life he has described in this song.
I once heard this song on a great day at work, and it will always be in my thoughts. Perfect summer song
Check put some Greg Rollie, had to put on him, Steve W, marc cohn and Bruce H with the moon roof open when it was warm out last weekend 🤣
Let me add my voice to the call for some reactions to Bruce Hornsby and the Range!!!
I go back to that debut album time and time again. Soulful lyrics and incredible musicianship, especially Bruce himself on the piano. Jamel, you will absolutely love it!!
Shining Song, Holding On, and Don't You Know What the Night Can Do? Good songs by Steve Winwood
Quite a long wonderful history behind this wonderful musician.
The wiki page says both James Ingram and Dan Hartman sang backup on this track. That is some serious talent right there. Give Hartman's solo song " I Can Dream About You" a try, it's another great 80's pop song.
This song fits Jamel like a favorite jacket!!
When are you going to react to Steve Winwood while you see a chance
All I got to say is that The Finer Things keep shining through.
Jamal I love how you actually listen to lyrics and break down a song. Most of these other people who react don’t seem to even listen to what the song says. I also enjoy seeing the joy in your face when you like a song! Keep doing this!
Sadly, it was around this time that Winwood was quoted as saying "I used to be a musician, but now I'm an entertainer."
This song could be your anthem for sure.
Keep being person you are because you're wonderful 👏
(I have noticed that you are a hero to many and you should be very proud)
Jamel you really really need to react to 'While you see a chance' - such a great Steve Winwood song.
One of my favorite songs
Gold and Silver by Quicksilver Messenger Service!!!
And "The Fool" and "Mona."
Fantastic!
Jamel, I have a very strong sense you have become a huge Steve Winwood / Traffic fan. The music just melds with one's inner soul.
One of my favourite songs EVER. 🙌❤️
Yo Jamel, your love for all kinds of music is INSPIRING. I need to be more like you, my man
steve winwood music to me, is always rich--musically and certainly lyrically too! and glad for you to share your discoveries with us..is cuz it's a nice walk down memory lane but also just cuz good things still need to be passed on. yes indeed keep good music alive jamel!!
Wow haven’t heard this song in a minute. Love his voice. So happy I got to grow up through the ‘70s, ‘80s and ‘90s. Had an endless amount of awesome music to listen to.
Omg, totally forgot about this song. Thank you, thank you for bringing it back to me! Steve Winwood is great!
The 1st stanza hits home, and it hits hard. My book "Nostalgia" includes those lyrics as an epigraph, setting the tone for a fiction novel dealing with the pain of wanting to return to the past.
Winwood, "Split Decision". Tremendous!
This song hit the radio when I was 13, and at that time, my first reaction to the dreamy 25 second instrumental intro was goosebumps. Something emotional. At age 50 my reaction is the same.
Pure Quality, Right There.
Jamel, What an excellent analysis and reaction you have here on Steve Winwood's song, "The Finer Things". Steve was a master musician, songwriter, and singer as a teenager, and has gotten more soulful with time. Thank you for your super video on one of the greats.
I requested The Finer Things when you did Higher Love. I also requested Glad, Freedom Rider & Empty Pages. You will like those too.
So glad I grew up on this music.
if you like steve winwood then will love bruce hornsby and the range thats just the way it is and mandolin rain
"Split Decision" with the great Joe Walsh on guitar please!!
Did I not tell you that the answers that you sought were spread through his career? I am so glad you're enjoying him as much as I do. I love your channel, and I look forward daily to your postings.
Love and Light,
Stay you!
You are so right it is about the little things in life just enjoying the happy moments in life that makes life so special!👍🏻🎸☮️❤️
Loved him since I was around 11! Am 68 now and still adore him!!! Fantastic voice
Steve Winwood!!! Valarie🙌🙌🙌
While You See A Chance is another beautiful song!
I grew up with this music, I miss the 1980's
This baby is in MY collection.
I think the cup of laughter is a play on the old English “in his cups” - drinking. A cup of laughter. But also, for this, drinking the cup of life.
I was just transported back to 1982 - driving in my Mazda 626 - listening to my Pioneer Super Tuner.
song came out in 86.
Love Me some Steve Winwood
Steve Winwood, another amazing musician from the 60's. I saw him live in the 90's when this song was popular. He toured with Robert Cray, another amazing musician.
No material brother. All soul and laughter. Absolutely. right. Regular life now I understand. Took me fifty years. But I now understand. Drink a cup of laughter.
If I was religious, this song would be my bible.
Never get tired of Stevie!
This was out the same time he did "Valerie" in '87. Love the 80's.
Steve Winwood is fresh!
I love that song a long with Valerie , Back in the high life . Higher love
This song makes always makes me dance!
His lyrics have you looking at the simpler things on a romantic level
Love to see your range of emotions while reacting, Jamel! Great to see the journey that music is taking you on❤️
It seems this song is often overlooked but it's one of my favorites. (I prefer the version with the longer ending though. Dancing...dancing...dancing wo-oh..)
Your take on music is a "finer thing" and much appreciated
Takes me back to being a teenager in the 1980s. 😀😀😀😀😀😀😀😀😀😀😀
Steve Winwood is the man. How good.
This song takes me back....I listened to this all the time back when it came out.
