@SouthVA 757 They'd already turned rockier with One Of These Nights in '75, which started their ascent into the stratosphere. Walsh brought more firepower and helped them get there. But Leadon gave them Witchy Woman, which which makes me wonder why he felt he could only do country. Felder, Leadon & Frey are on fire in the very rocky "Visions" (never understood why that wasn't a hit). Leadon could do everything. ..... Maybe he just didn't want to.

Then he looked at his parents on the couch and their heads were shaking from side to side...and the rest is history!
As far as the Eagles, he wasn't a founding member. He had his own success before & after.

I had just finished paying for my first 88 key Fender Rhodes in 1984.. and was loading it into my van to get it to the rehearsal place and set it up with the band.. I was so excited that I didnt even realize it was Joe Walsh until I was about 1/2 mile away... and that was when the bass player said... 'did you realize that was Joe Walsh?'.... it sounds crazy but Joe was born in Wichita and still has family there...

The talk box thing actually comes from steel player Peter Drake who used one on the Lawrence Welk show. It disappeared for quite awhile and the first reemergence I'm aware of was with Jeff Beck. It was called a "Magic Bag" as the guts were inside a bag one slung over their shoulder. You can see it in spots in this video ua-cam.com/video/TZlFTbvfKPE/v-deo.html. Later on in the Walsh/Framton era Bob Heil (who made concert sound systems) realized he could make better ones putting a better speaker in a box on the floor and taping a larger tube to the mic stand. This was also used on the "tell me, tell me" parts of Rufus's Tell Me Something Good.

His father hired me to paint the house. But anyways, my cousins loved Joe Walsh and played him all day and all night. If you watch the lead in to "Hotel California" on their latest tour, "Hell Freezes Over" tour, you can hear him do a solo performance that's out of this world. One of the funniest Joe Walsh moments I ever saw was not musical. It was on a HBO special starring Drew Carey that was basically an amped up version of Who's Line Is It Anyway. Joe was doing the music for the show but for the last improv game, they recruited him to play too. The gist was they would start with a topic and then each person would add one line to the story. I think the topic was euthanasia, and they were going down the line, Joe was near the end, and the person before him said something like, "And they found out he died from..." and Joe goes, "Brain worms!" It was so unexpected that the audience just blew up laughing.

Another great by Joe Walsh is “Walk Away” (1971). He was with the James Gang back then.
UPDATE: I just found your reaction to the song Walk Away. 🤣 Thanks! ☺️

You Don't Mess Around with Jim is a great song, Jim Croce is one of the best storytellers music has ever had.

Because of some personalities in the Eagles, Joe will say he works for the Eagles.
