The inside of the Chemlife factory scene was filmed at the Anheuser-Busch brewery, Van Nuys Ca. Specifically stock house #4 fermenting department where I worked. I watched them film for two or three days and only about a minute of film made the cut in the movie.
Absolutely underrated comedy classic. I saw it in the theaters, and watched it again within the last year, and it still makes me laugh out loud. Awesome.
I used to go down to Hermosa Beach every year to watch the Beach Volleyball championships and I stayed at the Sea Sprite Motel and ate at the Cafe 50’s. This was filmed right around the same time I used to go down in the late 80’s. Lots of good memories of that town. Great video Kurt.
I was born in 76 so I was definitely an 80's kid and I have no regrets especially when it comes to all the cool and funny movies 😎 Goonies, Lost Boys, Gremlins, Wired Science....Oh yeah and Sixteen candles are some of my fav's amongst many others I could go on and on! Lol 😂 Great channel bro! Keep up the great content 👏
Thanks for doing this video. I absolutely love this movie. I recently repurchased the bluray. They dont make movies like this anymore. I really wish someone would though. Just a great movie. Awesome video man. Thank you.
You were meant for this. We appreciate your attention to detail and effort in making these videos that sends us back in time, a time that was much, much better than what we're mired in now. You need your own star on the Hollywood walk of fame... or at the very least an interview with the Aceman.
I saw this movie again a few months ago, I saw it the first in the 90s. I did a search for a "locations" video in january 2024 .... and here it comes... great video!👍👍👍👌👌👌
I remember watching this as a kid in the 8th grade and I wanted to be a garbage man so bad LOL I thought it would be so cool! Thanks for taking down memory lane Kurt 😃🤘
Their apartments were in Santa Monica. Ocean Ave and Montana. I lived in the neighborhood and remember how cool it was to see the movie using our neighborhood to film, which happened a lot more than I knew at the time
Funny...... We live 5 minutes from your opening shot for the vid. The 80's was and is the best decade ever..... Your film locations vids are some of the best, always a fun watch. At 10:43 gotta love the brick phone. The parking lot/park at 13:02 is locally known as "Burnout" because of the fire that burned down the Hollywood Riviera Country Club in 1958, the club was built in the late 1920's, the little Merry-Go-Around was just a movie prop put there just for filming. Great watch, top-notch work.
Totally underrated gem! Awesome filming location! It was Keith David as Louis who absolutely stole the show! Seriously one of the funniest movies I've ever seen! I can't believe it was written overnight!
There are several sacred things in this world that you don't ever mess with. One of them happens to be another man's fries. Now you remember that, and you will live a long and healthy life.
I recall the apartments being on Torrance and Catalina just up from the Redondo Beach pier. There was a theater or playhouse on the corner if memory serves. I'd visit the sets regularly mostly by accident. If my days are correct Demi Moore was there for the golf clap filming. She was driving a Convertible Mercedes. I mention that because while working on the Last Boyscout she drove into a scene being filmed were Damon Wayons scratches the Rolls. Tony Scott yelled unrepeatable words that immediately changed to welcoming warmth when Bruce Willis recognized the car and everyone had a laugh. It's a small world for such a large city.
One of the hitmen (Biff) is Hawk Wolinski who is a keyboardist and composer. His most known work is with 70's funk band Rufus, but he has also composed songs for films. He also had an acting role in the Robert Blake film 'Electra Glide in Blue' (1973), playing a hippie who gets harassed by the cops and has drugs planted on him. His band 'Madura' also played in a concert scene in the film.
So glad you did this one. I love this movie. Just watched again a few weeks ago. Never noticed the license plate though. Can't believe I never saw that. Stay Rad 🤙🤙
My family's business that I was part of did all the cars for this movie (and many other movies from this era) .Including building a corvette shell to blown up .I was there that night the corvette was blown up, and I have behind the scenes photos of before during and after of the vet getting blown up..Thanks for posting this movie crazy times
I was literally just watching one of your other videos(night of the Roxbury filming locations) when this new video popped up..... Immediately jumped over to this video
Hey 👋 Kurt,, Great video 👍My son Max and I liked your showing us the Areas of the Movie 🎥🍿,, But we Missed your Great action acting that you usually do Fun Silly 😜 Fun,, Thanks...On to the next Movie intro..😂
I love that movie! That was some REAL comedy! I always wondered where exactly in LA this movie was filmed. All the locations looked very very familiar. I hope the next one you do is Charlie Sheen's 1987 movie No Man's Land. That movie was also filmed all over LA.
The house that was on knob Hill and esplanade was my grandpa's house, bud peck. A lot of good memories in that house during the 70's. When we watch this being filmed during 1989 there was other scenes filmed that never made it in the movie. They filmed at the gas station on PCH with El burrito jr and the back of the lot.
Absolutely fantastic, kurt. love this. This is another awesome video.. Is there any chance of doing the film..class Act, I know its 90s but you did house party also 😊
Well done. The lower budget movies back then were some of my favorites. Rivers Edge would be a good filming locations video. I haven’t seen you do too much in the Sunland/Tujunga area other than the Chips videos. I lived in La Crescenta back then, 80/90’s, and really liked that area.
Superb character actor Darrell Larson (excellent in the moving drama TWICE IN A LIFETIME and in the Western variation to The Dirty Dozen, THE MAGIFICENT SEVEN RIDE!) plays the politician whose demise turns this cult comedy into a sort of steroid version of WEEKEND AT BERNIE´S. Thanks for the video!
Hey Kurt, my first time commenting. I used to watch this movie all the time on HBO, love it. Loving your Channel, great content. Do the filming locations of The Last Boy Scout(1991) next, that would be cool
The South Bay's finest! I loved this movie since I saw it in the theater. One I have memorized word for word and at the time built a hand made Lego version of the trash truck with the boys. The apartment buildings were in Brentwood/Santa Monica as the SCRTD bus stop sign visible when he pops the BB in Jack Bergers sign has the 22 and 322 bus routes on there and they operated along Wilshire then went up San Vicente to the beach so if you trace that part of the route from the far side of the VA and go along San Vicente you might run into it and the 322 was a Limited so the stop would have been a bigger and busier street. I dont have a scan of the route map offhand but the SCRTD history is a huge part of my life and hope this helps your project here. I used to go to that Cafe 50's at the time often and there had been some snapshots of them during the filming. Awhile ago the statue was heavily vandalized and replaced.
There is a brief establishing shot of the Trash Truck Yard when Carl and James finish their first day (just before they talk with Walt), this shot was filmed at the present day LA Sanitation Gaffey Street SAFE Center in San Pedro, right next to the 110 Freeway. While much of the area has changed, the rectangular office building on the right side is still there and looks almost the exact same. In the shot, a highway sign for the freeway can barely be seen thru the trees. That is the 110 Freeway heading south over a small hill at its very far south end.
Your videos are great! So detailed. Can you please consider doing a locations video for one of my favorite 80s movies, D.C. Cab?? I don't think there is any location videos for that.

Love this. I still watch this movie 1-2 times a month. It’s my comfort flick.
We’ve got to give a little love, have a little hope..
Golf clap for this awesomeness kind Sir! 👏 👏👏
Absolutely underrated comedy classic. I saw it in the theaters, and watched it again within the last year, and it still makes me laugh out loud. Awesome.
This is one of my absolute favourite films growing up. Constantly rented from Blockbuster through the 90’s.
Well done, I thought I was one of the only ones who cares about this gem still
I used to go down to Hermosa Beach every year to watch the Beach Volleyball championships and I stayed at the Sea Sprite Motel and ate at the Cafe 50’s. This was filmed right around the same time I used to go down in the late 80’s. Lots of good memories of that town. Great video Kurt.
Great job!! I had to watch it twice! Very cool! 😎👌
This one is near and dear to me. I grew up in Redondo Beach and we would go watch it being filmed after school during my junior year.
Very cool. Back in 1999 I worked at the Hotel Oceana right around the corner.
