"Final Form", yeah right. We know better, especially those of us who have watched your videos for years.
Good luck on your move to Spain and looking forward to future posts.
Looks like you have made very practical choices. Bikes like this should be in shops.
This feels like your magnum opus, neatly combining classic sensibilities (bar-end friction, 2x), modern tech- wide dirt drops, discs, and those sweet wheels! Not to mention the esoteric bits like the bag supports and un-ramped chainring, but also the jewelry! Ti cages, cherries, and your custom stem cap. Literally representing everything I have come to know and love from your content. Good luck with the move, looking forward to seeing much more of this bike in future videos
Friction shifters and carbon wheels go together like mustard paint and purple bling. I like it.
My favorite part of cycling is seeing different peoples preferences when it comes to bike builds. I think you perfectly incapsulated what you need a bike for and what you want it to do. Have fun riding that thing over in Spain!
Until I started watching this guy's videos, I hadn't given friction shifters a thought. I used to have them on my old Schwinn Continentals. The idea of using friction shifters seems to have a lot of merit. Derailleurs can be finnicky. I have a gut feeling that he may have started a trend back to friction shifters.
Ahhh Russ, I've learned so much watching your channel. As a fellow person of color, you're someone I look up to and admire. As I've gotten into riding bikes the last couple years, having role models like you has been a true source of inspiration.
Thanks for all your work and for the sensibilities you bring to the biking world. Good luck moving; I hope all things go off without a hitch. Excited to watch you and your work evolve in Spain!
Your pal,
Bryan
I could listen to you talk about bikes for days on end my friend. Europes’ not going to know what hit them when you get to town!!
A cherry on the cake in this set up would be that seat tube mounted front derailleur shifter, just to spice things up!😊
Love it. What a beaut. Practical and efficient and easy on the eyes. Just from the first glance it’s obvious there are years of experience and personal preference/style at play here. Enjoy!
Great build. Carbon wheels and friction? Yes yes yes. It’s all about the best for u. It don matter
Looks super cozy and practical. I can almost feel the ride quality. And yes, the purple pops.
Beautiful and functional!!! Happy journey!!!
That is a really nice bike! The colours work real well, too.
My dream bike, a 1992 Schwinn High Plains. It's a oversized stock chromoly lugged frame mountain bike that I paid $100 for on craigslist. Eat it boutique parts chasers.
I like it! Super nice without too much flash, a perfect blend.
I am now using TRP levers with cantilever brakes on my Long Haul Trucker, and they do make a positive difference!
The Paul purple is a fantastic color. Great looking build and thanks for sharing it.
Baller. Love the seat post. I think this build will give you a built-in conversation starter wherever you ride...giving you a chance to meet new people/friends.
Love it! Happy you’re Happy
Late to the party,
Although this “gravel monster” personifies everything Russ, Quirky, Modern and Traditional my estimation this whip is “Balls to the Wall”! I’am sure that this bike will truly serve you well in Spain 🇪🇸
I’m such a sucker for any bike checks. This looks like a fun build, esp the crank / road front derailleur. Enjoy it!
Awesome build. Balleúr for sure. Love the color choices and seems like a solid setup.
I remember your video about the ideal number of bikes one should own - 3 (a daily driver, a go-fast bike, and a mountain bike. This works for me but I also have two singlespeed 'party' bikes...) - but this looks like a real quiver killer to me! The ideal one-bike-stable!
Love the purple
Love your setup. Super cool rig.
Very nice bike! Thanks to your influence, I have ordered a new shorter 165mm crank arms, 2X of course from White Industry.
Very nicely appointed bike there Russ. I'm a bit shocked by the carbon wheelset, but that's a good thing. Looks great and I'm sure it rides like a dream bike.
Awesome bike. Very sensible choices, good technology and something for the eye and heart. I run 650B carbon wheels from Hunt on my quite heavy Gorilla Monsoon and I am loving it. In large part I am building up bikes because of you and some other people online. Currently an awesome Polyvalent for my wife. Thank you for your work and best of luck for Spain!
Purple looks good👍
Thanks Russ. In some ways your experience and experiments with bike parts can be our experience. Good luck with the move!
Love that build Russ, enjoy it!
Great looking bike!
Definitely on the cool side.! Best of luck on the move!
Baller. Good luck with the move!
Love this build!
Sweet ride.
Love it! I too have the Paul's Comp parts & the TRP levers are dope!
Glad to hear you finally have your dream gravel bike build Russ, enjoy! My dream gravel bike build of 10 years is a 29+ titanium with carbon wheels at 20lbs which is kicks ass on gravel or pavement.
This is a very inspirational build for me. Of course not everything will work for my use-case, but I absolutely love the choices you've made with respect to the drivetrain and the shifting (I'm not surprised, I've watched the friction shifting videos multiple times now from earlier). I also think that the design looks great, and I wish I had a chance to check this frame out, but its nigh impossible here in central europe to get my hands on one. I'm planning a build for next years hungarian divide, and I'll be sure to try and copy many component choices you made here. You've built a beautiful and practical bike, I hope I can be skilled enough one day to build something like this.
Safe travels 🙏✌
That’s a Baller build !
Tremendous. Purple bits are rad. I didn’t know about the universal under saddle bag mount. I’ll be grabbing one of those!
Great Build! You gave me some Ideas, Thank you for that.
Love it, I do purple accents as well. You are right about the TRP RRL SR levers they make my Paul Klampers really shine . Have a safe trip look forward to the new adventure.
Sick bike!! Can’t wait to see videos from Spain
I am currently using an old triple XTR M900 that I set as a double, and it works pretty fine with my 36-20 crank.
Super cool. Looking forward to your impressions of Girona as a bikey city.
Sweet buid, excellent choice of parts! Good luck in Spain, looking forward to more of your videos from there!
Such a great build, I love the Sklar Supersomething, may be one in my future someday…..
Love the build. Pretty baller in my opinion!! The color combo is great as well!!
Heh, other than some details this is very like my gravel bike. Lightweight steel, carbon 650B wheels(DTSwiss XMC 1200s in my case also ≈1400g), sub compact double, disc brakes. Where we diverge, is I still like index, carbon forks, and hydraulic discs, but I bet these ride pretty similar.
Lovely build Russ, hope the move goes smoothly 👍
Second that
Purple ftw!!!
Looks great!🤙
Nice build, looking to upgrade my gravel bike myself with some carbon wheels, and I like the wheels you got.
Nice expression of personal style in your dream build. Mine is very different: I’ve got a purple track frame along with tan wheels and bar tape.
Love this bike! such a fun expression of modern retro that will be serving you for many years! It turned out great. Who makes that crank! I too love 160 crank arms and all the purple bits. Well done!
Sweet Ride!! 👌🚲👍
Impressive build. Thanks for sharing it! I’m also moving to España. Best of luck moving to that beautiful country. I hope you thrive.
Nice!
So jealous of the Corralitos bars! They've been out of stock for awhile. Looks great. Best wishes on your new journey
love it!
Oooohhhhh...dude! (eagerly consumes ALL the info on this build) Also, man, so stoked for you and Laura's move to Europe!
Some nice choices of components there. Should be a conversation starter...
I had the silver bar end shifters on the 650B Rando style bike. Unfortunately, it fell over in the basement and the right lever is pooched! Replaced with a set of Shimano 10 speed bar ends. The indexing is worn but in friction mode works fine. I will see if I can order the lever separately to make it work again.
Love it. ❤❤❤
Looks great, need that matching Paul stem tho
an 11-36 cassette could be a good alternative. Sram and Sunrace makes 11-36 with close ratio for first 2 or 3 outer cogs, which is nice for crusing on flat road.
Baller!!
Dropbar bikes deserve a better class of bike bells! If you ride on popular community paths, a good bell will get used.
Lovely build, purple is such an under rated color!!! Who wants to place bets on how long it takes him to go all cave of bad ideas on it.
Baller!
laker colors 👌
Super nice Super Something.
Sweet rig!!!
Nice
it would be cool to do a video on bike shipping. aka your thoughts on bike boxes. seems like with all the bikes you have ridden and tested you have also inevitably shipped lots of bikes too
Good luck in Spain! 💯😎👍
Love it, Russ :)
Can never have to much purple!
Love it. You nailed it! Not my style( more of a roadie/racer) but great choices of components…Spain ? Brave move, worth keeping in mind that he who dares, wins! Prob be challenging, might feel deep yearning to be back home, might question your choice….But will be an adventure, leading to new experiences and friendships, certainly will give new horizons…oh and sun! Look forward to your following content.
Stridsland front chain ring would match your purple accents wonderfully
So lucky to get out of Dodge. Great luck you 2:)
Tried.Tested.Twisted. Check. Hola.
Expect to take serious flak for them pedals in G-Town. I see clip less in your future. 🤭
Ensure you do the Hincapie Loop…
Es genial.
I vote, excellent build
Baller❤
The party pace stem cap would be perfect. It just gets too expensive with tax/vat. Otherwise a few tweaks on the bike and it would be perfect for me, if I win the lottery 😜
I’m team “baller”. Those brake levers are AMAZING! Good luck shipping the bike, and we’ll see you when you get there.
Very nice, I just built a bike with the same bcd and chainring sizes. Much smaller cassette though. But it works for me! Do like compressionless or standard housing for your clampers? I've tried compressionless on rim brakes now and it feels great!
Came out great. It's got all the parts you've been clearly excited about over the last year or two. The carbon hoops are really the only surprise. If you've expressed any desire for carbon rims, I've missed it or it's been highly overshadowed by your love of friction shifters and Paul Clampers.
What bike or bikes is Laura bringing with to travel across the pond?
Pack a suitcase full of cable cherries coming over the pond. Can't seem to find anything similar in europe
Sweet little bike though I personality would never use friction shifters as I love modern shifters...cheers
Great bike! That'll work!
Hate to tell you what I would have to pay for those Cazaderos, shipped to the UK...but just scored two in very good condition on ebay for £65! 😂
Love the bike! For me the purple post is a bit much. Not sure why, because I’m obsessed with purple ano too…but the seatpost seems like the wrong place for it.
Nice :)
Amazing build! I'll echo the other commenters praising the practicality of your build.
That super something really ticks a lot of boxes for me... Does anyone know if Sklar will offer a steel fork with three pack mounts?
If it feeeeeels good to you then 🤘🤘🤘🤘 ON!!!
Looks good with all the purple bling! Btw, do you still use padded trousers with that saddle?
That is the one bike I have been looking for! You forgot to mention the frame material. Steel? Aluminum?
