If you weren't watching how the negotiations went through back in 09, you'd know that Manny's team agreed to all his terms from purse split to blood testing. Only thing that was being waited was Floyd's agreement and signature. And I agree that Bob Arum sure did make things more complicated than it should, especially with the purse.
Manny did agree w/ Floyd's terms. But, the fight stalled, as they couldn't agree on the financials. The whole drug testing thing was cooked by Floyd Sr., which eventurally retracted.
Putting Floyd's greatness in perspective, almost all fighters do well against some opponents and struggle with others. Even Ali had big trouble with certain opponents (Norton, for one). In my opinion, Floyd completely outclassed all of his opponents. Fighters like Maidana and Castillo may have looked like that they gave him trouble but when I watched the fights a second time and more closely, I could see that their punches were missing Floyd and he schooled them both in the rematches. Having said this, Floyd fought all of the top competition in his era but never had to face somebody of Leonard's, Duran's or Hearns' caliber and I don't think he would have beaten all or maybe even any of them. In my opinion, Floyd was the most technically perfect fighter ever, with the most skill.
Great video. You come across honest and unbiased, which is refreshing and rare these days. Only, minor, critique is that you didn't mention Maidana KOing Broner, which is what earned him the Mayweather fight. Other than that, nice job.
Just discovered your awesome channel and from your voice figured you were a much older bloke lolz but now can put the face to the name. Keep up the good work man.
@@akvalues Yeah, you tell 'em! We all know that Pac vs Mayweather was better than Hagler vs Hearns, better than the Thrilla in Manilla, better than Homes vs Norton! Or perhaps Pac vs Mayweather REALLY wasn't that good and not worth spending your hard earned money on.
Floyd fought twice at 154 prior to fighting Canelo.. he fought DLH and Cotto I would love an explanation as to how maidana deserved a draw or a win .. its laughable Floyd won the first bout 9-3 or 8-4 either way it was a deserved win. People misunderstand a competitive fight.
PACMan fans should be happy and gracious that Floyd and Mannu didn’t fight in 2010 remember how Floyd did Chico Gatti and Hatton??? That’s probably how that fight would have looked before 2015
Larry Merchant was a fookin legend there! On another note, if Floyd is anything like he was in any of these fights he'll be KOing McGregor if they fight!
O H Floyd rated #23 ATG list. Too many great Champs in front of him. 40’ 50’ and 60’s you needed 50 fights to get a main event at the Garden, even harder for a Black defensive fighter. Floyd’s hands were shot after 30 fights. I doubt Floyd ever gets a main event at the Garden. Semi-mains outta town...Scrapbook thinks #23 is too generous..
Mayweather had the talent, skills and gift as a boxer. He gets criticized because he never faced a boxer who met these three conditions at once: A boxer who 1. In his Prime 2. Natural weight 3. The best of the division. Mayweather unlike boxers of the 80's did not have a pool of great boxers in his era. Not his fault. Mayweather did not face great boxers and the reason he gets dissed. I do think that Mayweather would have done good if he fought back in the 80's. Not great, but good. Salvador Sanchez would have been too much at 126. Azhuma Nelson, Julio Cesar Chavez or Hector Camacho at 130 would have been also too much. Roberto Duran would have assassinated Mayweather at 135. Aaron Pryor and Alexis Arguello would have made Mayweather quit at 140. Tommy Hearns, Sugar Ray Leonard and Wilfred Benitez would have been destructive for Mayweather at 147 or 154. Haggler would have killed Mayweather at the weight in at 160. The 80's fights were 15 rounds with 45 seconds rest in between and same day weight in. No way, know-how Mayweather could have been considered great. His resume is substandard in comparison to the aforementioned great ones.
Russ yeah, absolutely. Connor came from a great win and an MMA champion in ufc before the floyd fight yeah. Same with berto who just came from a win with a c class fighter josesito lopez yeah?
Ortiz was burning himself out early because he let floyds taunting a punch deflection frustrate him and hes a piece of shit for head butting..ppl dont realize a head butt is alot more dangerous than punches..boxers shoulders and necks are conditioned and an 8 pound weapon being bashed into your head could kill you, cause extreme brain damage cause serious cuts and death..boxers know intentional headbutts are not a joke especially with force ortiz threw it..he wanted to seriously hurt floyd and the sport has rules for a reason..these are peoples lives and careers at stake
Great video! Love your channel! I was never a fan of Floyd, but have recently gone back and watched most of his fights round by round and definitely have a whole new found respect for Floyd and his dominance over the length of his career!
Why is the Mosley win impressive? Mosley was almost 40, has already lost to Cotto three years prior, and he hadn't fought in over a year. I mean, he was still a high level boxer but nowhere near his peak self. Same with Pacquiao, who was old, clearly not his best self and had severe shoulder injury prior to the fight which he had to have surgery after. And then there's Berto, Maidana, Ortiz, Guerrero...All high level boxers but clearly not at the required level to be impressive. I do give him credit for Canelo though.
Oak Land I crazy to see anyone who claims to have boxing knowledge say Floyd had this amazing career. He cherry picked all his opponents at the prefect times never fighting dangerous fighters in their primes. Floyd was the best at making money then making great fights. Then he capped his career off with the biggest joke of a fight in boxing history. A fight that should have never even counted as a real professional prize fight.
youre forgetting floyd destroyed boxers put in front of him when he was a small name, his fights were exciting his fight against corrales and gatti showed floyd in his prime, floyd was well out his prime when he fought guys out of their prime and in their prime, not just any fighters he made look amateur, he made legends look amateur to the point they didnt know how to adjust as good as him and were left clueless on how to break the shell, same way he made a high volume puncher like manny lock up and stumped him for an easy win, maidanas style is what gave him the most trouble b4 retiring
@@marcuslarwa9098 He did have an amazing career. It's crazy to say otherwise. How do you know he cherry picked every opponent? Who did you want to see him fight?
Hey Rummy! Just wanted to let you know you have one of my favorite channels on here, I loved your video on Tyson Fury and the heavyweight lineage. Check out my channel I have interviews with Evander Holyfield, Riddick Bowe, Shannon Briggs & many more....now back to your video on Floyd!
Rose Gold people forget that floyd lost to castillo and maidana. That he was caught hydrating with an illegal iv the night before the pacquiao fight. That floyd senior himself called bayless to protect his son against manny on fight night. That he lost a case and was prompted to pay pacquiao 40kish for accusing him of using peds. That he fought a berto and an MMA fighter for his 49th and 50th win. That he only fights in Vegas with the judges of his choice. And that he still wants to remain significant when he is obviously not anymore. Lol!
kufujitsu but they actually wanted to fight each other. Different era, different mentality. Floyd and Pacquiao both made well over $100 million each in those 5 years they made us wait. Like Rummy said, it didn’t benefit either of them business wise to fight that early, it only made sense for boxing (which as a fan, it sucks)
By the end of 2012, when the talk of a Pacquiao-Mayweather fight got hot again, Manny lost back to back fights to Bradley and Marquez. There was no reward in Floyd fighting him at that time.
Definitely fattened his bank account. Legacy? not so much, imo. Guerrero ,Ortiz ,Berto , post-being-catastrophically-ktfo Pacman, Oldsley, etc...Nice vid as always, but on this one I must take on the role of loyal opposition. Oh, and I'll take Merchant by dirty tricks stoppage in the alley behind the bar @ 0130 on a Sunday morning.
He beat everyone who was at the top in his era. Name one guy he genuinely avoided. Pacquiao was arguably past his prime, but Mayweather was still 3 years older than Pac. You wouldn't give Mayweather the benefit of the doubt if he would've lost to Pac.
Floyd lost at least 2 fights. vs. Maidana the first one (if your bought judges fail a "split" decision, means you lost Floyd), vs. Castillo (the biggest ripoff of the last 20 years), and the Pacquiao was very close (Floyd basically spent the last 5 rounds running away like a chicken). He is very overestimated. He ALWAYS avoided to fight the best ones at their prime (vs. Pacquiao the most evident, he delayed this 10 years, plust chosen the time when Manny was recovering from a broken arm).
nicolashrv his shoulder wasn’t hurt in the 4th round when he had Floyd on the ropes stop the excuses man he lost y’all just hate Floyd and mad cause y’all all put y’all hope all in that manny would be the one to beat him stop with the lies
Floyd = 1 loss to Castillo in their first fight and one draw with Maidona in their first fight. Floyd = 1 knock down to Zab Judah in the second round of their fight. Floyd = overrated stats. Next... Floyd = no first ballet HOFers while in their prime on his resume. Hyped up record and hyped up compubox numbers. Floyd loses to Prime Robinson, Prime Duran, Prime Leonard, Prime Hearns, Prime Pryor, prime Whitaker and possibly to a prime Taylor. Lucky to be in the era he was.
Prime is 25- 35. Simple s saying that he fought 22 world champs. He had a close fight with Castillo it was close . but the best boxer would win in the rematch And Floyd did. He been knockdown official once hell you can say he got knockdown twice. In 50 fights . plus he was 37 (past prime) when he beat maidana.
Ugh...I've seen all of those incredibly idiotic punch-counting videos. Punch-counting is arather misguided approach at judging prize fights. The basic principle is to judge who's being more effective as it pertains to the criteria. Floyd Mayweather Jr., in that regard, clearly and decisively won the fight. This isn't a debatable topic to anyone who has a rudimentary understanding of the sport.
Nonsense fights, when there is no KO or K downs.. are decided by punch stats MW won 7 of the 12 rounds PAC MAN won 5 of the 12 rounds..it was a close fight
Ryan Esau lol yeah, maybe Pacquiao’s mother had the score that close but any unbiased boxing fan or anyone with any knowledge of boxing knows it was more like 9-3 Mayweather. It was not a close fight at all. This is coming from a huge Pacquiao fan who was rooting for him.
Rummy.. I love your presentation on Floyd last ten fights.... He will be back... He is just waiting for the cash-cow fighter he can get paid on with another easy victory... Floyd will never get beat from today's fighters because he is from the old-school cloth that plays chess and not checkers... He will sign a three fight deal making 45 million per fight. What I think he is doing, is setting back allowing the boxing community to miss him and willing to do whatever to get him back in the ring.

Floyd wanted to fight Mosley back in 99. Same outcome exploits in my estimate.
Conor Anthony Mcgregor. Will make it 49-1
SYKE !!! #50-0 #TMT #TBE
Your crystal ball is fucked.

Casual fan...🤣🤣🤣
Floyd didn't beat Marquez with size though Rummy speed skills and acuracy. No disrespect to you I do think you are the most knowledgeable and unbiased boxing guy on UA-cam handsdown
Size had a lot to do with it. Marquez was never a true 147 pounder.
Size was the difference. Mayweather had speed, skill and accuracy but he was far too big for him.
Marquez tried but was too small
It was floyds speed that won. That being said marquez was hella slow at 147 at that time. He had good speed at his natural weight.
Rummy, you are an absolute genius! Possibly the best Boxing analyst around. Knowledgeable and make perfect sense.
Floyd and Maidana was the best fight for Floyd in over a decade IMO. Still feel a draw would have been fair and I knew in the second match Floyd would shut him down but did not foresee him shitting him down into retirement 😟
Love him or hate him Floyd was always fascinating to observe with his ring skills.
draw fair? what?
***** Gloves wouldn't have impacted outcome. He didn't land a lot of clean shots to begin with. Just a bunch of wild punches and low blows.
***** He has the power do why not make demands Oscar did the same thing. So get off Floyd's nutz.
naw I think cotto was..floyd even said it cotto was his hardest fight
Kevin Anjuwon Yep and still whopped his ass.
Floyd called out Prince Naseem Hamed, Kostya Tszyu and Acelino Freitas those would have ben great fights
Casamayor too
also dodged Winky Wright, Vernon Forrest, Sergio and Margarito
thanks for making these cool videos .
Only just found your channel and I'm hooked. Great work full of facts and common sense. Thank you.
Finally! A boxing channel, I'm a causal fan, but I do know the science in boxing, thanks to my older brother watching and teaching me about fights during the 90s. Most channels provides opinions without facts, and you provide yours with facts. Nice work.
hey rummy, I've watched quite a few of your videos & really like what you're doing. Thanks for the entertainment and keep em coming
you don't have to place blame because Freddy roach admitted they turned the first offer down
PhantomZone15 ya cause Floyd made unfair demand... shocker right. If you don’t want the fight just make crazy demandsz
Rob A like Eddie Hearns now lol
@AEROTRAP but he made that same demand to Mosley since he was suspected of PED's also and Shane accepted the demands. So why would Shane accept it and Paq not. I mean unless you have something to hide.
@Tyler Brown you dont know that. He had it flushed out of his system with that 16 oz IV treatment in his living room prior to the Pacquiao fight. As far as the alledged A samples USADA let slide.....
if manny would have taken the olympic testing that fight would have happened 5 years earlier.
The whole drug testing thing was cooked by Floyd Sr., which eventurally retracted.
what? the joke usada?
And he would have gotten his ass BEAT! Floyd was just too much for Pacquiao.
@@mauricehumphrey545 He should've proved it back in 2009.
Love him or hate him, Mayweather is the best..Period.
Fantastic video. Do more. I subscribed!
This channel is FIRE
He fought Oscar at 154 with no weight clauses
I don’t think Canelo was a catch weight either.
@@raw5889 152 catch weight
Blame his management for saying it was oj
Great video. You come across honest and unbiased, which is refreshing and rare these days. Only, minor, critique is that you didn't mention Maidana KOing Broner, which is what earned him the Mayweather fight. Other than that, nice job.
Broner was dropped twice he was never stopped
This video was fantastic and very fair.
Just discovered your awesome channel and from your voice figured you were a much older bloke lolz but now can put the face to the name. Keep up the good work man.
Idk. Larry might have a punchers chance, but I see Floyd winning a majority decision or late stoppage.
Pacman didn't want To tested for PEDS that's why the right took 5 years
John Roach He agreed to testing 6 months later. Arum didn’t like be dictated to by Floyd..Like Rummy said...there’s plenty of blame to go around...
@@saintcruzin but wanted a 50/50 split. You & I know that don't fly. It's how bob arum does tactics to get OUT of negotiations.
Rummy, Love your channel Man!super informative helped me get back into boxing.
PacMan vs May. Worst fight I ever paid for.
Maybe cause Floyd won
Nathan Dubose I never paid for a mayweather fight. I’m glad I never.
Because your fighter didn't win!!....lol!!!
@@elshanks1578 because your just a casual!
The best boxing channel and I just subscribed to it and it is great that he didn't attack him
Floyd fought twice at 154 prior to fighting Canelo.. he fought DLH and Cotto
I would love an explanation as to how maidana deserved a draw or a win .. its laughable Floyd won the first bout 9-3 or 8-4 either way it was a deserved win. People misunderstand a competitive fight.
Fought canelo at 152 tho.
dadondutta I think maidana beat Floyd
Oh you mean like the Castillo fights?
@@raw5889 impossible
dadondutta...i suppose he whooped Castillo as well?.
PACMan fans should be happy and gracious that Floyd and Mannu didn’t fight in 2010 remember how Floyd did Chico Gatti and Hatton??? That’s probably how that fight would have looked before 2015
Wow ! Someone with a skull full of good brain 👍👍👍
Excellent video Rummy. U definitely earned me as a subscriber.
Floyd vs Pac was a dud. But in all fairness, Pac was injured coming into the fight.
Great video Rummy
Larry Merchant was a fookin legend there! On another note, if Floyd is anything like he was in any of these fights he'll be KOing McGregor if they fight!
You were right!
ste bostock boy you called it huh?....lmaooooo
Floyd was nothing like he was in any of these fights but he still won
RUMMY...I looove your channel!!!! You are totally unbiased but honest in your analysis.....
Ray Liotta all day...
Rummy, the late great Bert Sugar , Al Bernstein & Mad Max Kellerman are my go to guys when discussing the sweet science
The Ortiz fight was because he beat Andre Berto and took his belt.
and the maidana fight was because he beat & humiliated adrien broner
i always wondered if broner beat maidana if floyd would have fought him...that would have been a huge build up..
Rummy! Once again, great video and break down. You're the man!
Floyd had some extremely good names on his record, no one can say that he isn’t the GOAT
He isn't the GOAT.
Semi-mains outta town...Scrapbook thinks #23 is too generous..
crazy potato 50-0, this guy was beating people out of his prime
Facts, what Mayweather did in the ring doesn’t get the respect it deserves. Give him his flowers while he is alive.. I see you money may!!!!
You also didn't mention PAC fought his guys after their biggest losses and Floyd fought his fighters after their biggest victories.
Russ yeah, absolutely. Connor came from a great win and an MMA champion in ufc before the floyd fight yeah. Same with berto who just came from a win with a c class fighter josesito lopez yeah?
Truly love your work my friend
I agree for those first few rounds I actually thought Ortiz had a good shot
Ortiz was burning himself out early because he let floyds taunting a punch deflection frustrate him and hes a piece of shit for head butting..ppl dont realize a head butt is alot more dangerous than punches..boxers shoulders and necks are conditioned and an 8 pound weapon being bashed into your head could kill you, cause extreme brain damage cause serious cuts and death..boxers know intentional headbutts are not a joke especially with force ortiz threw it..he wanted to seriously hurt floyd and the sport has rules for a reason..these are peoples lives and careers at stake
U must got some good chronic in that cigar in ur profile pic thinking that #TMT
Who did you want to see him fight?
lmao I love when people say Pacquiao was old. Floyd ages too!! He's older than Pacquiao! Time affects everyone.
A young canelo? Maidana gave him a great fight probably more competitive than the cotto fight.
Outstanding research, and well developed clip! Great work dude
Hey Rummy! Just wanted to let you know you have one of my favorite channels on here, I loved your video on Tyson Fury and the heavyweight lineage. Check out my channel I have interviews with Evander Holyfield, Riddick Bowe, Shannon Briggs & many more....now back to your video on Floyd!
I'm so happy I found your channel
People forget pac fought cotto and Oscar at catch weights with a hydration limit.
Lol!
Don't care for Mayweather but your video was awesome. Well done and thumbs up.
Leonard & Hearns didn't make us wait 6 years, or whatever it was.
kufujitsu but they actually wanted to fight each other.
Leonard is a title thief, fucking peace of shit.
@@lewiscollins1045 Leonard was a beast, he'd slap Mayweather about
An unbiased video, great commentating. Definitely will subscribe
Deep respect for Madiana`s perfomance against Floyd. Excellent video as usual
Great Video Thank's for posting
Pac won that fight clearly ...
Thanks for being strait up
Froid is the greatest ducker/cherry picker of all time.
Great stuff as always!
Moonlight Tiger this comment might just give me autism.
He loses to prime DLH too. Mosley was 39yo when they fought, I thnk younger Mosley gives Floyd more trouble too.
MOSLEY , AND DLH WOULDNT FIGHT EM. THEY BOTH USED THE, HE DOESNT SALE EXCSE
Moonlight Tiger floyd lost too castio and maidana thats a fact
Prime is 25- 35. Simple s saying that he fought 22 world champs. He had a close fight with Castillo it was close . but the best boxer would win in the rematch
And Floyd did. He been knockdown official once hell you can say he got knockdown twice. In 50 fights . plus he was 37 (past prime) when he beat maidana.
I'm subscribing! Love this channel!
FLOYD BEAT MANNY DECISIVELY. YEAH THATS SOUNDS COOL BUT IN REAL LIFE.......
In real life...Floyd decisively beat Manny and the fight wasn't remotely competitive.
PeoplesChampion9050 u might want to watch it later where they count all punches in slow motion. Tape don’t lie.
This is coming from a huge Pacquiao fan who was rooting for him.
great job i really enjoy your words and videos. im a new fan of your's. stay blessed....
I really enjoy your work. Great video
Good stuff! Keep it up!
Very interesting, unbiased and fair assessment..
Subscribing right now.
Love your videos. Great breakdowns
Canelo’s team offered to fight at 152 catch weight Floyd accepted it. Floyd never asked for the catch weight.
Ed Rock actually Canelos team offered to fight at 150. And Floyd countered with the 152. Because he didn’t want Canelo that drained.
