Cool note about Underhalls: Although the archvile doesn't appear in that level, the secret teleporter near the red key has a few shotgunners there. Upon entering the area, they wake up and often go through the teleporter, leading to the starting area where you killed a few zombies. This gives the illusion that the old zombies somehow got revived and you had to kill them again, as if an archvile came and left. Hence the name "The healer stalks."
I remember reading an Interview with Robert Prince ( DooM Music composer ) and apparently, the Carmack bros. initially wanted only metal style music for DooM ( think E1M1 ) but then Robert Prince said something like '' But hey seriously we could put all kinds of fucked up music in there and it will just be awesome ''. And then Carmack bros. went.. '' uh... ok then '' . The rest of the story is right there for you to listen.
Max War interesting, like what I heard in a interview people were saying that different maps deserve the right kind of music to fit into the environment.

I love this track. It just tunes out when your fighting demons but when you fell the last one in that room or corridor your greeted with this chill underhalls theme while you catch your breath.
I only got through it twice. The first time scared the hell out of me when I had to fight that massive horde of Archviles just before the exit, and I nearly had a heart attack when I fell into the Type-11 deathtrap exit room. But yes, it's possible; you just start Map12: Imprisoned with barely any health.
I remember to have played this game the first time when I was 13 years old at the house of a buddy; jeez, we played this game without music, just with the sfx on, and WE WERE SO SCARED, even we played it when the sun was still.
Suits the map style, to be honest. I always take my time and mow the enemies with the Shotgun and wisely use the Super Shotgun for recommended situations. MAP02 has a strong replay value in my opinion.
I played doom 2 a bunch and I honesty dislike the level because of how many times I have played it. But I could see it being cool if you like sneaking around, I just don't like unlocking this door to go over here to get the key to go back to the start to press a button to go under a hole to get a key and pop up back near the start to finish the level.
('O' of Destruction!) is the automap name for the level titled (Circle of Death) in the intermission screen. Just look it up in the Doom Wiki. They're the same level, the one that marks your first encounter with the deadly Arch-Vile.
I just love how out of nowhere it switches to some vibey bossa nova elevator jazz but it still works, i be killing demons ans suddenly i'm doing a little dance in my seat
tomek8bit Man, that bit is probably what I remember most about playing Doom 2. You're killing demons, minding your own business then suddenly Hell feels like you're taking the most pedestrian of elevator trips.
dsp4 This shit grows on you. Its part of the magic of DooM. The surreal feel of elevator Samba as you mow down cyber demons with your chainsaw. Its pure magic.
Kinda Random: I was reading "Heart of darkness" (Joseph Conrad) in college almost 20 years ago, and this always seemed to me to be a "slowly going up river into darker and darker territory" theme. I had randomly stumbled across and it seemed to pair perfectly with the book.
Actually, that does make sense. Keep in mind Doom and Wolfenstein do share the same universe. Doomguy is the descendent of Blascowits. In Wolfenstein RPG, at the end when you kill the Harbinger of Doom, he states he will be back for the blood of Blascowits's descendent. This is a reference to Doomguy's first engounter with a Cyberdemon in the Tower of Babel.
*riding the elevator* so, uh, you going to see Satan? Yeah, the boss wants me to help organize the ACDC concert tonight. Seriously, isn't there one like every night? Nah, sometimes it's Black Sabbath, occasionally Metallica, etc
I wanna make a long story, this is my first try. It's your regular day at Microsoft, master chief walks into the elevator but just as the door closes, doomguy pushes both the elevator doors back and enters, he then hits a button with his clenched fist, this music then plays. "Oh cool, I was going to the same floor!" Chief says Doomguy turns at him and turns back, he then slowly taps his foot in impatience. Chief stands there awkwardly as the music continues. "So, that's a nice sword you've got there," chief says "where did you get it?" They both stand there in silence the doomguy let's out an 'UNGH'. "Do you like it at Microsoft?" Chief asks Doomguy gives out a positive sounding 'Ungh'. The elevator then rings, the music stops and they both get out. "It was fun talking to you, same room I guess." Doomguy makes the noise again "Let's just go to the room, don't wanna be late".
Wolfenstein 3D, Spear of Destiny, Doom and Doom 2 soundtracks all were composed by Bobby Prince, and even used some similar beats as Wolf3D, for example.
Agreed. Archviles scare the daylights out of me, especially when there's a lot of them in one place. But if you though Map11: Hunted in Plutonia was bad, wait until you play Map11: Arch-Violence in Plutonia 2. It's even worse: bigger, you need all three keys to get through, and you don't even get an exit-choice (the one I like to call Camelot vs. Certain Death). There you have no choice but the Type-11 deathtrap exit.
Doom II Ost: Map 11,25,30 - Violet The Healer Stalks, Violet Adrian's Asleep & Violet Opening To Hell, Map11: Circle Of Death, Map25: Bloodfalls, Map30: Icon Of Sin.

I love how closely this resembles the first map music from Wolfenstein 3D.
This track is surprisingly atomospheric. I kind of prefer this over the intense metal themes, but those are cool as well
yeah I love this as well. great sound choice and the way it progresses.

So soothing when you are ripping and tearing demons and vice versa
Am I the only the one thinks this track is better suited for stealth?
I actually used this music for a stealth map in doom snapmap.
Or puzzles, yes
That’s the name of the game. It really contrasts with the fast paced gameplay Doom has been known for.
I mean it’s stealth if they’re all dead right?
You can get the drop on most enemies in Underhalls without really losing any time or momentum so
I can't believe this wasn't in an elevator in Eternal...
Fun fact: this is the archviles theme. The healer being the archviles beta name, as he was a cut enemy from DooM 1
fun fact: there are not archviles in stage 2, yet this music plays in stage 2.
