I actually can't wait for the switch 2. I wouldn't pay $780 for the PS 5 Pro for what little it gets you, and it is a little. But all the flashy graphics and fast load times in the world cant touch Nintendo's first party games. Show me any PS game that has sold 60 million copies (mario kart 8). That is because it is fun.
the upgrade itself is good. its exactly the same jump from 5700xt to 7700xt, but the difference is you are at the mercy of how Sony and devs want the games to run, so you cant run a game at 1080 native 90 fps medium settings, you get upscaled 4k30 or 1440-60. No mods, forced to use controllers that break within a year, forced to pay for online, forced to only use the one digital storefront Sony controls....
Sony's decisions with the PS4 were motivated by the fact that the PS3 almost lost against the Xbox 360. It wasn't until the end the PS3 was able to barely outsell the 360. That's why Sony made such a huge effort to make the PS4 so desirable for consumers. With Xbox dying and Nintendo doing their own thing, who's going to compete with Sony?
This is LITERALLY why the Gameboy was the best selling handheld of all time. All the other contenders were like 200-400 bucks. Gameboy came out and it was like 89 bucks.
@@drewbreezy5854 that's precisely why! Because what mattered most then, what matters most now, and what will always matter most going forward will always be the games. Sony simply cannot compute this in their minds which is why Nintendo continues to decimate the competition.
Yeah, the gameboy was a lot inferior to the gamegear, for example, which had better graphics, color, and they also had Sonic, streets of rage 2, shining force etc. In the 90s Sega was as big as Nintendo. But crucially the batteries on the gamebou lasted a lot longer and yes, it was much cheaper, and affordable to many.
That alone would sell it fast. More power neans nothing without the games. In fact the more powerful the hardware the harder and longer the development goes.
Sony and Xbox are just setting the switch 2 up for massive success. I wouldn't be surprised if the switch 2 sells close to what the switch sold just because of the horrible decisions the other 2 companies are making
@@spartanq7781the only way Sony is gonna last is if they take a MASSIVE break on making consoles and instead just focus making lesser scaled games. Not every game needs me to see every minute detail of hair on a character bro, just make a decent game that runs at 60 fps and we're good
The PS5 Pro is an ominous sign of what will arrive when Sony launches the PS6. Sony's likely going to make the PS6 all digital, require an internet connection to play games, and launch it at 799 USD with base games priced at 99 USD.
Then come out with a ps6 pro 4 years later, wake up PS fan boys. Get yourself a gaming pc , play online for free. Let's see you paid 500$ for ps5, 250 for 4 years of online, now 700$ for an upgrade. That's 1600 in 4 years lol.
Craziest thing for me in this reveal was that they didn't show any new games to make you excited about the new console, they only showed old games, which you could play most of them on PS4 too.
Doesn't matter if they did. The console is 699.99 and its not even a next gen console its mid cycle along with the specs not worth it. Nothing to get excited about
now imagine if Xbox leaves the console race and leaves Sony as the only high end console maker. They will easily increase the price to $900-1000 next gen. This is why competition is good, no matter if you like Xbox or not.
@@podunk3202 Exactly… And people really tired to argue Sony would never push price limits again like they did with the PS3 Literally any company can and will take as much money as they think they can get away with
Despite the lack of exclusives and the PS+ price increase, I've quite enjoyed using my PS5 over the past few years for various reasons. But even I have my limits, and Sony is definitely getting closer to them. If they're still trying to pull this kinda shit with the PS6 (which they probably will like you said), its time to move back to PC. Especially since it seems like they're getting closer and closer to phasing out physical media. If I'm stuck with digital, I'd rather it be with Steam than PSN.

This is scary. We have to imagine a PS6 will be more powerful than a PS5 Pro. So either the PS6 will be the gen to be strictly all digital. . . or the full console package for a PS6 will be around $1000. . . which is PC territory at that point. The base PS4 got a PRICE DROP twice in 2015, 2 years after launch. The first price drop was $349 retail price in america but the second being at $299 in Europe later that month. At no point did the PS4 pro cost more than the launch price of the base model. My thought is that worst-case scenario, PS6 will be all digital with an optional disc drive to play PS4 and PS5 games. PS6 games will be PSN store only.
There is also the game price discussion. Some people predict that GTA 6 will be a $100 game and other companies may follow up on that. Next gen gaming will be for the rich.

Lol This is exactly why i’m a Nintendo fan. They saw this coming from way back in 2005 when they decided to steer away from the graphics race. The Switch 2 will dominate and I can’t wait to learn more about it.
For me, the appeal of consoles has always been that they are affordable self-contained machines I can count on to play every game in their library without concerns about compatibility or performance. This generation ended all that. Non-Nintendo consoles are now offering mid-gen upgrades and separate versions with different performance levels. All the upgrade issues of the PC space, with none of the freedom or versatility.
No, its definitely not just the price. I have a list of things that have made me, an early adopter and upgrader in the past, not want this thing at all: * Diminishing returns on the performance and graphical improvements * No disc drive * No stand * That Price * Still the same hideous form factor * No new games announced (AstroBot is great, but I want more if I'm going to invest in the next half of this gen with Sony)
Also correct me if I'm wrong isn't the point to play quality mode at 60fps? There is no FPS boost equivalent is there for PS5 so you still can't run alot of stuff better than 30 cause there's so few 9th gen games so that's alot of the draw gone as well
The disc drive is going away like it or not so and no one goes to the store and buys games for the console most of the time anyway you have to get with the times!

£700 for PS5 Pro without a disc drive. That's $914, or over 1000 with it. I think this is going to be another PSVR 2. An impressive piece of tech, but priced too high for most customers.
I'm think that too. Sony priced the PSVR 2 terribly and it sold bad. But they priced the ps portal well and it sold very well. The pro is just not a good price, put in a disc drive and a stand for fucks sakes and then we'll talk
@@12coco100 PS Portal is also overpriced for what it is, a streaming tablet with a Dual Sense attached to it. It should not be more than 150 bucks. Only sold well because some people don't know better and think it's an actual handheld console.
They couldn’t even bundle the stand or a game with the console. This is what happens when a company has no real competition. $700 for a console is crazy.
Mark Cerny did say 3/4 prefer performance mode over fidelity mode. He also indicated the fidelity mode is really what developers want. That seems true. Games do seem like they were made for developers and not us.
I often see the argument that this is a luxury item, and that no one is entitled to an “affordable” price. While that’s true, at some point the market is going to dwindle and people will stop buying their consoles. I’m sure they’ve “ran the numbers” or whatever but most of us don’t want this to be the new standard. So many people are struggling in this economy and they’re not going to choose a PS5 over their rent/food. I personally have the funds to buythis console many times over, but I’m not willing to support this pricing scheme.
Same. And this is a real opportunity for Nintendo to undercut Sony, heavily, on price when they announce the Switch 2. And if PS5 sales begin to under-perform, third parties are going to look at the massive Switch audience alongside the Switch 2 audience and ask themselves why they're not going with Nintendo as the lead platform for development.
I mean, the console is a toy...they're selling a toy. The only way to make the business sustainable is to sell a lot of toys. Bringing the price of a toy to the price of a "luxury item" pretty much means killing the business because no one has ever paid more than a certain price for toys, wages don't grow as fast as "inflation"...Sony is shooting themselves in the foot. There is no rethoric that can change that.
I'm with you but to be honest, in the end we will eventually buy it. More sooner than later, it's our hobby 💁🏽♂️....Hopefully Nintendo announces their new console before launch so they can sway me away from it.
Maybe it's me, but it feels like this price point is Sony's way of taking some of their poor business expense decisions and shifting some of that to the consumer base to help payoff for them.
This presentation made me sad about the future of console gaming. I’m a big believer in physical media and the fact that Sony and Microsoft are so dead set on digital only consoles is frustrating on top of this insane launch price. Nintendo is the only hope we have in regard to preserving that aspect of gaming.
Consoles had 3 main advantages over PC: Cheap prices, physical games, and exclusive titles. All of those upsides are almost out the door. PC is just better. I'm extremely sad that it came down to this, but I can't say I'm surprised.
Lmao, say as an example you buy the 4070TI... Where will you install it into since you also need cpu, psu, ram etc etc... PC's are not as cheap as you think. Easily 1000+ right there if you don’t want to skimp out and maximize the power.
Also, physical games are NOT gone. Can still play physical copies of Stellar Blade, Elden Ring, Demons Souls remake, Stray, FF16/Intergrade/Rebirth, Tekken 8, Cyberpunk (PS5), Hogwartz Legacy, Persona 3 Reload, Dead Space remake etc etc before any meaningful update. They can be beaten as they are on disc. Games are still beatable on disc with good experiences before patches, so as long as physical games in this form exists, consoles will ALWAYS trump what PC has to offer. I don’t care what anyone says.

PS5 pro is definitely very expensive for a console but the prices for PC parts the past 5 years has been absolutely bonkers. A decent graphics card alone is north of $600. Then you've got the PSU, mobo, RAM, SSD/HD, CPU, CPU cooler, a case if you don't currently own a desktop, monitor, mouse, keyboard, speakers, and a copy of Windows.
I currently have so much physical games in my backlog that they probably will last for the rest of my life. ”All digital future” can be something for my kids to deal with…
@@swellerace you haven't seen what Sony did when by mistake they put the Stellar Blade Demo out earlier before it should right? They revoked the access to the demo even if you had it download, that shows you what they can do at any point with digital games, also look at P.T Playable Teaser Sony blacked list it, so it doesn't work on PS5 nor you can download it even if you had it before.
It’s not the economy. They’re pricing it here because they know enough people are stupid enough to buy it. Xbox is struggling too much right now for them to see them as a threat which is the problem here.
Yeah... $500 is about the maximum I would ever pay for just a game console... And that's with a disk drive included. If I'm going all digital, it's going to be by streaming games from my PC to my steam link for some sort of handheld that plays Steam games. Sony Microsoft and Nintendo would have to completely retool the way they handle buying games digitally in order for me to feel comfortable not having the option to just buy a cartridge or disc
I'm still basically playing PS4 games on my PS5 there's not a whole lot that justifies me having a PS5 in the first place let alone a 700 dollar one. Where are all the games? After 4 years this generation has barely even started and they're trying to push this crap on us. I bet it was going to be $600 but then Concord flopped.
I cannot believe physical media may be genuinely abandoned in the 10th generation, literally 2 - 3 years away, 4 at most. PC truly is the way to go at this point, especially with how good Steam is & how GOG ACTUALLY offers digital preservation. Xbox & PS titles will be coming to PC more commonly & consistently over time & if Nintendo continues to possess emulator friendly software, PC by default is truly unrivalled. I'm thinking of starting off with an ASUS ROG Ally, before eventually building up my own PC.
Well said but remember. Steam isn't all that great. They are trying to make it so that if you die, you can't hand down your digital downloads to friends or fam. Can't even gift things to people anymore lol wtf is that???
Whoever at Sony said this was a good idea launching a console with no disk drive no stand and stamping it with a 1000$ price tag in Canada should be fired!
Funny thing is that most of their exclusives can be played on PC, while emulators lets you play many PS games that aren't even available on the PS5. This is just pushing for PC gaming more and more.
I think that Sony's greed with the PS5 Pro price has everything to do with all the scalping we saw this generation. I'm sure Sony sat back and watched 100's of thousands (millions?) of people pay outrageous scalping prices on eBay for nearly TWO YEARS, which showed Sony what desperate people were willing to fork up. I'm sure they thought to themselves if our customers are willing to pay a scalper $1000 for our product, then we'll have no problem getting $800 out of them. Unfortunately, it's probably only going to get worse as companies like Sony, NVidia, Microsoft, etc. realize how much they can squeeze out of their customers.
I cannot wait for the PS5 pro to come out, only for developers to try to "take advantage of the new hardware" only for them to come back making the same complaints with "we need stronger hardware because we have no restraints when it comes to being pretty" where the PS5 pro will struggle at 30 all over again. I just don't get how you get less out of the box for the pro skew than you did in a non-pro skew. Cause the base PS5 came with the stand and the disc drive. . . didn't it?
The base PS5 will throttle the output of games graphically, because if they let's say make a fidelity mode for the PS5 pro it will look horrendous on the base PS5. I think the emphasis here is giving a 60fps fidelity mode and that's it.
@@JulliusTheGreat Yeah. . . until developers start targeting the pro with their new games much like how xbox developers targeted the xbox series X instead of the Series S. Where, rather than the pro becoming the "improved experience" with the base-PS5 being the base experience, I'm laughing at the idea that developers will do this wrong because they have no restraint (again, like with the Series S) and make the PS5 Pro be the base experience and the base PS5 will become the bottle-neck. That's just my prediction of incompetence on how things will be mismanaged.
I can’t wait for the PS6 so my PS5 can finally have games that push it. This generation has felt like the barest improvement from the last and the biggest contributing factor to that for me is the fact that most games are still cross generational so none of them are designed to specifically push the current consoles
The same people who want the convenience of a console also want a reasonable price and I think the price is probably going to win out in that balance, so they’ll most likely just forget about it

Oh yeah i'm pretty sure like 90% of all the people bashing it specially content creators on the internet will still buy it just because, they all love burning money for no reason since all that money comes from the viewers that throws them money and ads revenue.
Keep in mind this is the internet, a lot of what’s said doesn’t translate to real life. The PS5P is gonna sell out within minutes when the preorder goes live, mark my words.
$700 with no disc drive, plus $80 for the disc drive for us that already own PS4 and PS5 games on disc, so $780 plus tax, and no stand? No thanks. My PS5 works fine. Sony wants to go back to the old days when PS3 was struggling 😂. PSSR can run on the regular PS5. Is just an upscaler like FSR 3 or DLSS on PC.
7:15 Unless you're using some sort of large commercial display, 8k is completely pointless on consoles where you're going to be sitting 8-10 feet (or more) away from a screen that is what, 65 inches on average? Pushing 8k would cripple performance for no perceivable fidelity improvements.
This reveal was such a huge disappointment. I was so stoked on the PS5 Pro, until I saw how incremental the improvement is and how insane the price tag is. $850 (after tax and disc drive). That’s insane. Go look at SpawnWave’s poll: 91% people don’t want this this thing after seeing the reveal. Sony sucks this generation
Basically the PS5 Pro is what we should have gotten with the PS5 at launch. For those that have a PS5 it might not be really worth buying the PS5 Pro. But it's up to you. I'm not surprised the PS5 Pro doesn't come with the disc drive, but it's probably a cost cutting measure they did. I do like how we have the option to buy the disc drive used by the PS5 Slim. It's pretty stupid that the vertical stand is sold separately. $699.99 (console) $79.99 (disc drive) ....$780 😨 Honestly, I don't have a PS5 and the PS5 Pro (and the disc drive) is what I will be getting. It is a lot of money but I think of it like an investment that I will be using for years. What's weird is that people have no issues buying the latest iPhone Pro Max or the latest Galaxy Ultra (for example) which are sold at over $1000. But it's weird how we see a game console that's not even $1000 and think it's so expensive. The way I see it, there's likely at least 15+ games that you'll get on PS5 and more than likely even more over time. You're definitely going to get your money's worth.
Thinking the disc drive + stand together being under $160 is very optimistic. xD I won't be surprised if everything together is closer to $900 than it is $800.

Im sure they ran the numbers on concord and psvr 2 and look how that turned out. Hope this thing completely tanks in sales.
Cause the base PS5 came with the stand and the disc drive. . . didn't it?
The original PS5 was available in both, digital and one with a disc drive. I think they came with a plastic stand though.
The gaming industry is screwed
Don't buy ps 5 pro and see the price going down
I actually want it to fail because they’re getting greedy now
@@eddi3401 same. I've been team sony over team xbox for a while now but this move is making me hate them both equally haha.
$699.99 (console) $79.99 (disc drive) ....$780 😨
Honestly, I don't have a PS5 and the PS5 Pro (and the disc drive) is what I will be getting.
Thinking the disc drive + stand together being under $160 is very optimistic. xD
I won't be surprised if everything together is closer to $900 than it is $800.
The disk drive is $80
The stand is $25
When you add tax it’s all about $880 depending where you live
950 euro here in Europe with the Disc+stand included.
@@jarde1989 These prices for the new console variant accessories aren't up yet. With how sony's financials are looking currently, I'm expecting an upcharge compared to what we are used too. Sony can't afford lost leaders anymore. Not when the things they are "leading" aren't getting them revenu with flops like concord.
If they are listed, then I must have missed it, but I did look.
@@jarde1989 I looked and perhaps I missed it. . . but the prices for the new console variant accessories from what I could find aren't up yet and pre-orders for the pro won't even be up till the 26th. I agree with you Spawn that the Pro will initially sell pretty well but around April and May next year is when it gets interesting. I wouldn't be surprised if there was a price drop by next summer, only so they could package whatever new game or GTA 6 with the Pro at an even more premium price in the Fall. 👼
I don't think ill pick up a PS 6 on day one, still salty about the "We believe in generations" BS
100% my sentiments, John. There’s just not enough of a value proposition for me and I was very interested in getting one until they blew me out of the water with the price.
I can understand why the Pro is priced at $700 but as the consumer I definitely have the reasons to be more outraged.
For me it’s the fact that these prices aren’t getting any price cuts anymore. It’s either staying the same or for Sony it’s going up.
Word. Even folks like you and me who this isn't the most expensive thing in the world for... We are still not stupid and can see the scammy evil crap going on here. Super not kool sorny!
Console gaming is nearing its endgame because the next generation will likely cost $700 or $800, For me, the PS5 pro costs $959 Canadian. Game development costs are rising, . On top of that, inflation is driving up the cost of basic needs. Most people watching this video will likely buy the next-gen consoles or games, but developers and the big three need average consumers to buy consoles too. Will they still do that with rising prices just to play games? We might see a mini video game crash in the future
Did Sony hire managers from Microsoft?
I can't wait for Nintendo to come out and tell me.Yes, the Nintendo switch 2 will enhance the graphics for other games. And i'm gonna be happy cause it's going to be an affordable console.
Won't be able to afford a PS6 when it comes out. 😭
@@shawnbrasuell8951
You should probably stop gaming then lol
@@jarde1989 I have too many games in my backlog
Imagine with the $700 dollars they threw in 2-4 Vouchers you can redeem for any digital sony published game. I think that would have made it worth it.
Sony is making bad decisions these days.
They’re getting greedy
@@eddi3401 They are becoming arrogant and greedy like the PS3 days.

It will have 2TB onboard storage. To their credit, a 2TB M.2 drive is fairly expensive. But still.
@@dapperfan44 I'm hardcore lol I need close to 4tb for my library.
This is the exact thing I was thinking earlier. I said if the PS5 was more expensive than the PS4 Pro, then by that logic the PS6 could be $800, $900, $1000? Good luck Sony if that’s what you are trying to do!
Moore's law is dead, or they are extremely greedy.
Remember that the PS3 costed 599, but only 3 years later it dropped to 299. Sony stated themselves that in those 3 years, the cost of production fell by 70%. The PS5 has only increased in price since launch.
Remember the communities feature that used to be on the ps4
Nintendo about to take over. Microsoft and Sony underestimated Nintendos longgggterm plan 😂🎉
