    The stop sign footage is just hilarious! Nice demo of the focal lengths.

    Stop sign footage. Epic. FoV is something I've been playing with on Ipvm camera setup software. 6mm on each corner of front of house. Just barely seeing each other. Leaves doorbell cam to shoot center of my driveway. But my cars in front of house are well covered:)

      Yep! You can't beat that optical zoom of grabbing the view you need from the jump.

    Thank you for your video. All outdoor security cameras that I have seen, including the 3 lens versions you have shown, have a horizontal curvature/distortion on the video. I would have thought the larger 6mm lens wouldn't be as bad but it just appears to be zoomed in. Do you know of any outdoor security cameras that this type of distortion is eliminated or limited? Thank you.

    • @digiblurDIY
      @digiblurDIY  Рік тому

      Probably about the only ones I've seen are the PTZ style since they are meant to zoom and have a flatter sensor/lens.

    Field of view is determined the ration of focal length to sensor size. Expensive cameras typically have larger sensors and need a longer focal length to equal the same FOV of your cheap cameras. Varifocal is a compromise on image quality unless the camera is much more expensive than fixed focal cameras.

    Thanks for this comparison digiblur. I have a bunch of 2.8mm/4.0mm Amcrest turrets that aren’t clear enough at the distance I need (my fault), plus they’re a couple years old and all have their own unique ways of glitching. Because of your reviews I’ve been thinking of adding some new Reolink cameras, and switching them out one by one. Have you personally encountered any technical issues mixing Amcrest and Reolink cameras? (I’m thinking there would be issues with connecting both to one brand’s NVR, using 2 apps, etc. but I guess if you use Blue Iris instead it wouldn’t really matter)

    • @digiblurDIY
      @digiblurDIY  2 роки тому +1

      In my opinion the Reolink cameras are great for use with their Reolink NVR. Pretty simple to setup, solid and easy to use. Now for power users buying them for Frigate, Blue Iris etc roll your own NVR. Nope. Don't do it. Go Amcrest/Dahua. Lots of options to toy with to get your picture looking great plus they have h264/h265 encoding options to pick the one you want.

      @Pro1er Рік тому +1

      @@digiblurDIY Well said. One other problem with a lot of the Reolinks is that the night time performance can be poor.
      PS, thank you for pointing out the codec issues. Considering that Reolink provided the cameras, that was refreshingly honest of you. I might add that Reolink's ONVIF can be sketchy on some cameras as well.

    • @digiblurDIY

      @@Pro1er I'm always honest about the camera codec issues on Reolink cameras. They are pretty bad on some models and pretty much impact them all now so I'll keep bringing it up until they fix it. I talked about it again in the recent Reolink doorbell camera video too.

    Have you found a reliable way to integrate the Reolink NVR into Home Assistant? I am using the HACS integration but seems like the motion detection alerts are either inaccurate or very slow. I'm trying to rely solely on local HA for alerts like this so I don't have to allow the NVR Internet access back to China.

    LOL. Not that I have ever had anyone give me something for Review. I am to small for that.. But I wouldn't even take a Reolink camera to try and review. I bought one and Night Owl and both of them were Round Filed as I can't stand junk cameras. I deal with Dahua, Amcrest mostly. Before I knew better I was using Hikvision OEM's and I will admit they are nice enough that I have kept them and still use them. One thing that I don't like is Fixed lens cameras. I mean I have a good few of them. But VF and Motorized VF cameras are best for quality. I have cameras from 4x to 37x in PTZ's and older Box cameras with VF lens are better then many of the Higher MP cameras because I can zoom to an area of VIEW that makes it a Perfect picture when Digital Zooming a high MP camera the picture just isn't good enough for my needs. I have a Few 8mp and 12mp cameras. However most of my fleet are CVBS to 4mp and some BNC 5mp from Annke lOL they are good enough for what I use them for but really are POS cameras. Be Safe. I feel bad for your Stop Sign lol.

      @@digiblurDIY the varifocals do not have the same low-light quality as fixed models, due the lens-complexity. I honestly believe the vendor who first starts making fixed-lens cameras above 6mm is going to get a lot of attention...
