Very good video from start to finish, I'd like to see a part 2 for new users on the settings for the yamls, what they do and reccomended and advance settings. Give like a good little overview so if someone is setting up a new device they can understand how to start building a devices Yaml. Keep up the great information videos!
I have a gosund lamp I haven't used in a long time because I sunset all my Tuya crap, at the time cloudcutter wouldn't work on it but I need to give it another go. Also, good to see another Dark Reader fan and as always, thank you for the no BS, straight talk videos.
Worked for one device so far! (I've only tried one, it was a Globe Plug) I'm excited to ditch the Tuya control (even the local mod is still annoying). The video inspired me to finally pick up a used Pi 3+ and get this running. Worked first try without any issues. Great guide (website)! Cheers!
Great guide! I was able to cloudcut one KMC 3AC power strip, and the other I had to transplant with ESP8266 as it had the newer Tuya firmware. I know I could have flashed the beken chip after I desoldered it, but I already had an extra ESP-02S. BTW, those beken 72xx boards take a bit of effort to flash via ltchiptool; ie proper 3.3VDC and a good TTL adapter. Also, I was successful following your video and using virtualbox instead of a raspberry pi. The only trick is to use plain debian and a USB wifi stick that supports creating an AP (access point) via nmcli. And for those who are looking to try something different (and save some money), you can also use a raspi-zero-w where you use the onboard bluetooth for your connection to the board, then run cloudcutter and/or tuya-convert where you use the wifi to do your cloudcutting. Such fun.
Bro your nails were looking good in that Raspberry Pi shot. I bought my first Matter plugs the other day (used your tutorial on setting up Matter for HA) and think I'm going to try to go that route in the future. I'm tired of fighting China to keep my data local.
I just had 'em done! :) I have a few matter devices my self but I'll say I'm not sold on it just yet as I've had a few issues with things on Matter from time to time.
Great video! I was able to get my feit light bulbs out of the cloud. My bulb did not have a profile so i used a similar one and was able to get it work. Some of the pin layout for the color needed to be adjusted. Do you know where i can submit the bulb profile so that other people dont have to spend time like it did?
Hi Travis, thanks for the videos. I was wondering if you have a link for your programming deilybob that you poke the rods through for flashing ESP devices or other devices that use the little solder dots on the board., Thanks again.
Great video im going to try this. I have some Cloudy Bay RGB down lights that i tried to use Tuya kocal woth but I couldnt get it to work. I read about someone manually flashing firmware but also wasnt sure if that would work. Do you know if the devices that use a Gateway to connect can be flashed via this method?
This is a great video. Thanks! I successfully transitioned a Tuya device to ESPHome, only to discover the water leak sensor doesn't have a profile yet. Is it possible to flash tuya back? Also, how can I accurately identify whether a device can be converted? I'm looking at a wifi socket with a firmware of 1.0.2, but how do I identify more details? I checked the firmware on cloudcutter, but I'm still not certain whether this device will work.
I wouldn't do battery wifi devices and they are not great nor would I try to flash them either. Check to see if they have a profile for that firmware version and just try it is really the only way.
You might be able to but it could be tough to figure out the display code and such. Might be better to do a serial dump so you could flash back if needed.
Try this...the older website ate up the formatting when it got converted over to the new one but you can get the gist of things. If not hit me up in discord as I don't think YT will let me post the full block either. digiblur.com/2020/12/04/how-to-add-custom-panels-in-home-assistant
As long as the devices haven’t been updated they should be fine to flash with cloudcutter. I think there are some new firmwares coming out that aren’t flashable OTA at the moment.
Nice video, but almost all devices I bought recently are not flashable, either a profile does not exist (and creating one is for a faint of heart) or just patched firmware.
You don't have to create a new profile. That's more of the Tuya cloudcutter devs doing that from the manual firmware dumps. Do the other exploits work?
doesn't work for patched devices: BK7231T, BK7231N (a lot of devices). For me it was the ds03. And no you can't solder/flash that device because they changed the design so you can't take it apart anymore.
I meant tuya zigbee 3.0. That tuya server getting on my nerves because once in a while you have to do that log in . About esp home I think you're right
@digiblurDIY the logs say heardsman not started, Z2M says no path provided, I've tried device by serial id and the simple path device/TTY1... Using a proven sonoff 2652p from my previous install. ZHA sees the dongle. Mqtt sees the traffic when I start Z2M.
Depends on the device firmware. I got some Daybetter RGB-CT bulbs that came with patched firmware. I just went the LocalTuya route in Home Assistant since I couldn't cloud cut them. They're disconnected from the internet but controllable locally.
@digiblurDIY genuinely curious what you mean. New to Home Assistant (3 weeks) and I haven't had any issues at all. What custom stuff am I missing? Only thing I've noticed is lighting effects, which they've said is coming in the future, but I don't really ever use effects.
@jpierce1987 I have had on multiple occasions where devices dropped off, had to be paired again, Matter stopped working entirely. The pain of having to use ipv6 and forward that traffic over vlans is another pain point. Custom stuff example would be the configurations of say multi button press to trigger other devices and actions.
@@digiblurDIY Might be worth another look since they updated the matter server. I have them all on my main ipv4 network and not a single issue at all. They respond immediately, as if I flipped the light switch. I'm using multi manager, so they are currently managed by HA, Google Home and the aidot app (for when my kids want the lighting effects in their room.) Also have matter smart plugs all over, no issues there. I think they might have fixed whatever bugs previously existed, because it's been great. 30+ matter devices in my setup. @@digiblurDIY Yes, I did. For some reason, it just took an hour long before it show as online instead of offline. So all good! Thanks, for the good DIY guide as always!
@eric169eric169 that's usually a mdns issue if it shows as offline. You might have to enable your use ping option instead on the dashboard to get around that cosmetic issue.
@@digiblurDIYCan’t tank you enough with bringing Cloudcutter up. I have 50% of my devices in setup in the Tuya app and using it with HA via then Local Tuya integration. Was not happy about that because I want full control. Now I can spend an evening or a day converting them and have a peace of mind!
@@digiblurDIY Agreed - Tuya cloud is gross! Well I went for it, got all the way to a successful flash and my Tuya "TY1CHA5-RF" smartswitch that has the CB3S - with Chip BK7231N. It now shows up on my network as "Smartlife-4486". I cant seem to connect to the smartswitch via my phone or PC to load the new ESPhome Bin files. I tried just going to the IP address as well with no luck. Tried several reboots and slow blink searching/connect attempts and seem to be stuck.
Sadly the current Tuya version made it so this exploit doesn't work anymore. If you want to use this exploit do not let the device update to the current firmware version.
Thank you sir!

Yup, check what firmware version is on them.
Great tutorial, could you please add or write me how to install the tuya cloud cutter with a docker container on an ubuntu
There isn't one, you could do a VM
Is this the new tuya-convert?
Tuya convert was for ESP based chipset devices. While being somewhat similar, it is for the newer Beken based ones.

Probably not as this for more of the simple WiFi devices.
