    9:50 - wow finally someone on youtube that actually knows a thing or two about security cameras, he seriously did some legitimate trigonometry calculations for finding the angle view. I wouldn't even trust security cameras with Wifi built in, anyone can hack that easily... just sayin.

    Exceptionally well done! I learned so much watching. I am working with a security company who wanted to use the same [focal length] cameras for all locations. All they talk about is resolution, not field of view. I see now I need different cameras at different locations.

    Nice video. Since you have a camera looking at your driveway to capture vehicle details, would be nice if you could do a video setting up your camera (i e adjusting image settings, fps) to capture plate details at night to overcome headlight bloom... Compare 2/3 Mp standard camera, 8mp etc.. and if it would be good/necessary to go to a more specialized camera with better night vision or a license plate reader.
    A little over a year ago i had a system installed, and had two dome varifocal 2mp cameras dedicated to road coverage at the front of the property (i e. Installed at the gate) so i can see what is on the street in front of my house. It covers both left and right sides so I get almost 180deg coverage of the road. I should have put in a better resolution cameras but didn't know enough at the time of installation.
    The front cameras have come in useful getting plates when there have been suspicious vehicles in the area. However i suffer the headlight bloom problem at night... Haven't had a chance as yet to tune the image settings to see if i can improve the license plate capture.

      @@HomeTechDIY .. It is the older analog stuff, not poe. The poe was too expensive in comparison. The cameras are a mixture of dome and turret cameras and different resolutions 2MP or 3 MP. After a couple of years i will look into upgrading to a higher resolution on some of the cameras. If you are asking about brand it is alibi - they look like the hikvision cameras... but the alibi system came with a 3 year warranty.

    Excellent introduction to the differences in types of security cameras. I know you did a lot of research to put this together. I've just installed 5 cameras. One 5mp PTZ with 12 X zoom, two 5mp with 4X zoom, a 4K fixed wide angle and another 5 mp PTZ for inside. I have certainly seen the differences with all up on my Blue Iris screen. Of course I get the most "fun" playing with the PTZ cameras.
    I like catching moon rises and sunsets with the PTZ. Not super sharp but pretty cool. What's been your best security camera experience for night sky viewing? Just wondering...

    • @HomeTechDIY
      @HomeTechDIY  4 роки тому

      Glad you liked the video! I have tried PTZ at night a couple of times but struggled with the focus. Using the 25x PTZ from this video, I could preset the zoom level but the focus would not preset and the camera would continuously hunt for the right focus without success. That was a big letdown. But, in my review of the 12mm bullet from this Lens Size video, I pointed the camera towards the north star and captured stars and movement not visible to the naked eye. Definitely my fav! Here is that review (around the 10min mark if you want to jump ahead): ua-cam.com/video/xjEPAd8Gy8Q/v-deo.html

    I did it too for Hikvision models DS-2DE4A425IW-DE and DS-2DE4A225IW-DE, and by my calculations, the angles on their datasheets are correct.
    I did the same for these other two Hikvision models DS-2DE4A425IW-DE and DS-2DE4A225IW-DE, and in my opinion the agles are totally wrong.
    Anyone can confirm? :) Thank you.

    Here's a expert question 🧐in Terms of Led night Vision camera coverage:
    Let's say you have Roof projections arround a House and Plan to mount Poe cameras underneath IT. So it would be 14.8 feet (4,5meter) above Ground.
    You want to see the animals causing Noise and leaving 💩arround your House. Basically you want to be able to tell If a wild animal, your neighbour 🥴 or a cat, Dog, hedge Hog etc is responsible.
    Backyard is completly dark at night. Therefore you want to invest in warm led cameras to get a good View.
    Just the backyard is 118feet (36meters) in horizontal length and 82feet (25meters) in vertical width.
    Remember: the camera would be 14.8 feet above Ground. Which Lens size would you pick 🤷 and will the Led from the camera even Cover the vertical area?

    • @HomeTechDIY
      @HomeTechDIY  4 роки тому

      If I understand correctly, your scene width is 36m and it's 25m away from the camera install location which is also 4.5m high? If so, the viewing angle is roughly 72 degrees. To answer your second question, getting light that far will be a challenge. You will also need a pretty high resolution sensor to capture those details. You might want to consider 2 cameras side-by-side to help with the light and resolution.

    • @CMK-Security
      @CMK-Security 4 роки тому

      @@HomeTechDIY Correct. Thx for the reply. Any suggestions about which Lens size? I Plan to buy some of the dahuas led cameras that Claim to illuminate 40m.

  • @PBMS123
    @PBMS123 3 роки тому

    Focal Length isn't measured from the back of the lens to the sensor. It's from the point of convergence to the sensor. The point of convergence is usually in the lens. For cameras with fixed mounts, the distance between the back of the lens and the sensor is the same regardless of what lens is there.

    Hi Great channel. How do I change a Hikvision camera set Subnet Mask address to match my network Subnet Mask address because they are different...and I cant seem to find how to do this on the DeepInMind GUI..any idea?

    • @HomeTechDIY

      Thanks!! If you uncheck "Enable DHCP", does that allow access to the Subnet Mask?

    • @Chavacano
      @Chavacano 4 роки тому

      @@HomeTechDIY Hey thanks unfortunately its not that simple, even with the DeepInMind flagship GUI for the IDS series NVR and cameras. The camera I was trying to configure was actually registered by a previous owner.....hence it was an authenticated access to the camera configuration via HikConnect which I dont have access to - simply because it is not my account. So for those who purchase used cameras out there as a tip ensure you ask the previous owner to unregister the camera from any of their linked accounts. The get around is using the unbinding feature on HikConnect to resolve this problem. I would be very interested indeed for you to run some videos on how to setup VLAN for your CCTV system seen as you appear to have a Managed PoE switch. This would be very helpful for those who rely on switches for a more advanced and secure CCTV network setup.
      By the way your channel is very informative, keep up the good work. Thank you.
