- Unbelievable: Marie - A look at how doubt pervades the case of "Marie" in Netflix's new limited series "Unbelievable."
Inspired by real events, a teen reports and eventually recants her reported rape, while two female detectives, states away, investigate evidence that could reveal the truth.
Based on The Marshall Project and ProPublica Pulitzer Prize-winning article, "An Unbelievable Story of Rape," written by T. Christian Miller and Ken Armstrong, and the This American Life radio episode, “Anatomy of Doubt”, with episodes directed by Oscar nominees Susannah Grant and Lisa Cholodenko, "Unbelievable" is a story of unspeakable trauma, unwavering tenacity, and astounding resilience.
Showrunner Susannah Grant executive produces the series, from CBS Television Studios, along with Sarah Timberman, Carl Beverly, Lisa Cholodenko, Ayelet Waldman, Michael Chabon, Katie Couric, Richard Tofel, Neil Barsky, Robyn Semien, and Marie.

"if the truth is inconvenient
They don't believe it "
The sad truth
Nah, i don't believe you.
"When bagel is on a pizza
You can have pizza anytime"
The happy truth.
there's was nothing convenience here
Props to this trailer for not giving away the entire movie in one preview.
Michelle P. It's actually a true story and you can read the original article about this. It will make you mad.
Anthony Joseph This is based on a true story about a serial rapist and a young woman, his first victim, who wasn’t believed by law enforcement when they could’ve stopped him from raping anyone else. To hell with you and your political agenda.
The sad part is the 1st episode is pretty true to how a lot of women are treated by some detectives when the victims truth is not convenient for them. A lot of women are not believed because of their past. Episode 1 pissed me the hell off....
Vicky R. Seriously exactly what happened to me lmao ‘why doesn’t it add up!’ They’re so gross to victims
Well they have to be smart and do their due diligence. Many lives depend on these decisions, so i'm all for greater questioning and thoroughness. Makes it easier to capture perpetrators and also rule out the victim wannabe scammers.
@The Man vs PC true questions have to be asked, witnesses, close family, friends have to be heard but in this case the detectives started to doubt Marie only after speaking to her fostermom. If she hadnt implicated she tought the story was made up by marie they would never have made that turn. Since when is an assumption of a bystander more worth then the version of the victim itself? Seeing marie so lost and lonely, having to deal with this trauma all by herself was devasting to watch.
@Shaun Fleming i get u when u say the forstermom is more then a bystander but still the fostermom implied that she was lying but there was no evidence that this was true. Her word against Marie s. She didnt have a history of lying. She did things as a teenager that werent considered to be apropriat yet knowing what she went through as a kid u can expect such behavior. Just cuz marie didnt acted the same way after the rape as the fostermom once did she believed marie was making the whole story up. Thats pretty arrogent. And for the cops to just follow these assumptions thats really hard to understand for me. I know there are words spelled wrong in this reply but english isnt my first language so pls ignore them.
What are you talking about?? The detectives were doing everything to help her and find the rapist until she kept telling different stories about what happened, the foster mom saying she has done things to get attention, and the fact there is no evidence of force entry and no evidence that rape had happened. What do you expect people to believe her if she can’t tell you what really happened and kept changing her story??
I feel so bad for Marie. What's worse is the worst part was not mentioned in the movie. One of Marie's (ex) friends wrote an article about her faking the attack
Actually looks interesting not gonna lie
Yea that sound tracks had me too
YES I KNOW BRUH I HAVE SO MANY SHOWS/MOVIES TO WATCHHHHH
@Anthony Joseph This is a true story. He WAS a white man. Its just simply a FACT in this story.
It was excellent!
@Anthony Joseph I'm not really sure what your point is here, but its obvious you missed the intent of this show being about the survivors and the investigation.
I've been seeing trailers for a lot of good shows coming out within the next month or so! Exciting!
Such a phenomenal actress in all genres
She was brilliant in Book smart!

No seriously get tf out!!
Can't wait to watch this!
I just checked out a book about this story from the library last week! "A False Report: A True Story of Rape in America" if anyone wants to read into it
Definitely gonna watch.
I get both sides to this. Cops have to be as thorough as possible because women do lie and some accidentally make false IDs. And innocent men have been locked up for it and the real criminals assaulted more women. But also cops need to have a certain bedside manner talking to female assault victims. Those cops didn’t have it. As a survivor myself i see why it’s important for female cops to talk to victims. Men don’t understand the trauma aspect the same way women do. That some women respond differently than others. And some women choose to block it out because it feels easier. We should try to bring awareness to how often these things happen to us everyday. And to be honest how much the justice system falls short in that aspect because of those factors.
Statistically speaking it's less than 1% of allegations are discovered to be false while often victims (of any gender) are badgered, harassed, accused of all sorts of foul things from fabricating to attention seeking to "asking for it".
This miniseries is a must for every girl and families having girl to watch it 👌
Love this show 👌🏻 such a Good story with amazing actors 💜💜💜💜👌🏻
Thank you NETFLIX 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
i hope one day the investigators show up at my door and say they finally believe me. he’s done it to me and so many other girls
Just watched Booksmart with this actress last night. She always takes part to amazing projects!
After watched 13 Reason Why S3 i am disappointed Netflix, truly dissapointed. I hope this series take serious rape.
This is the show you are looking for.
My name is Marie too😂
Its my middle name! 😂😂😂
Made me sick watching this live in Lynnwood and know all too well how the local police are and were then. Just disgusting how they treated her. Makes me sick that this happened in my town. And people wonder why rape victims are afraid to come forward. SMH. It's Embarrassing that this happened in the town I live in and have lived in almost my whole life.
Netflix is the best
U can download and they’ve got loads of stuff 2 watch
This looks great btw
Can’t wait 2 watch it!!!
I don't like this kinda stuff but I'm still gonna watch it
Just made a reaction video for this. Looking to be yet ANOTHER powerful show! Well done as always Netflix!!
Haven't seen something with Kaitlyn Dever in a very long time, she was awesome as a kid.
Save the OA
I ugly cried the last 3 episodes.
This is strange
Just FYI this is based off a true story of a serial rapist and what she says actually turns out to be true. It's a crazy ass case
Cool, hey Netflix why don’t u bring back the OA for a third season
I hate stories in which the victim isn't honest with his or her testimonial.
Wilker Saito it's based off a true story. She was actually telling the truth but the cops, who didn't understand how rape victims react and process what happened to them, along with her former foster mother, believed that she made it up. Her foster mother used the girl's experience of an unstable upbringing to cast doubts on her claims. About two years later, they eventually found evidence that she was indeed raped and the entire police department in that town had to be trained in how they handle rape victims and the cops that took her case were investigated.
Looks awesome!
My name is Marie too
THE BEST SINTONIA
Have a great day :))
Ok
thanks, i like the seven deadly sins too
thanka
Don’t you tell me what to do!
Kaitlyn Dever's sister Mady actually goes to my college
That's cool
Looks like quicksand
How many ppls lives are ruined by fabricated lies and untrue accusations?
Is this like Season 1 of 13 Reasons Why?
Its my name
would be interesting if it turns out she is lying in the end, otherwise it would be so predictable if turns out she was somehow telling the truth even though her story and facts dont add up and its logical that the police would have doubts.
It wouldn’t be interesting because it would be a lie. This is based on a true story.
The two male detectives kept pressuring her and harrowing her until she cracked and told them what they wanted to hear. Ultimately despite anything she said or did, they’re the ones who botched her case. She sued the city and won after being vindicated.
I’m sorry, but are actively dumb or something? (: this show was based on true life events that actually happened between 2008 and 2011. Marie adler was one of those people who struggled throughout basically her whole life in the foster system, but no, of course you wouldn’t bother to look it up. This case was unfortunately REAL and yes, this kind of show is definitely not for everyone
@@user-vb5nw2pr6c uh i didnt know it was based on real events and i dont really care, i was giving my opinion based on what i thought was a fictional story that seemed too have the typical cliche of the women never lies trope, which i was interested in seeing subverted kinda like in gone girl. No need to get mad u snowflake.
@@acadiansm giving your opinion without knowing the facts? 👏👍
@@mirthepeeters65 so one can't ever give an opinion on a trailer without knowing all the background information....hmm ok then.
I swear if i end up hating the main character till the end 😤😤😤😤😤😤
With all this Spider-Man out the MCU, I forgot the reason Daredevil was cancelled :/

Shit man, The Sinner and now this - you guys really know how to reel folks in, don't you?
Ey
What is it based off of?
The case of serial rapist Marc O’Leary, who committed multiple rapes between 2008 and 2011 when he was caught and convicted. His first victim, the girl in the trailers, wasn’t believed by the two male detectives assigned to her case and was coerced into “admitting” she made the whole thing up. It’s a pretty interesting, albeit upsetting and frustrating crime docu-drama.
Oh man .......✌️✌️✌️😎😎😎.........may be I am blanked out.
First one to comment wins
Looks interesting

Unfortunate truth about these situations. It's not necessarily that the truth is inconvenient, it's just that there's no evidence besides peoples' testimony, which is the most unreliable form of evidence cuz people lie on both sides. With this being a free country and the rightfully noble presumption of innocence, it is what it is...
yep, false rape accusations are a real thing and they arent punishable under the law. U can ruin someones life and get away scott free.
Mam nadzieję że wam niedługo zabraknie widzów za te cholerne reklamy przed i po każdej piosence! Precz!!!
