Thank you so much for mentioning the Men jab! It's really important to me that most people our age get it now because my friend died of meningitis earlier this year whilst at university. Really appreciate you mentioning it!! xxx
You don't need a TV licence for catch up or on demand tv (4od, iplayer, itv player, netflix). Have just checked this on the tv licencing site. You only need one for live TV. I'd recommend saving the money and just watching everything on catch up!
Georgia M Just an update for people watching this a year later - I don't know about the other catch-up channels, but BBC iPlayer now requires a TV license
I took a doorstop and a cake with me in freshers week. Definitely a good "be my friend" bribe and "you have no choice but to talk to me if you walk past my room and I'm at my desk" trick
Really glad you mentioned the Men jab! I didn't even know about it before, and my college have not said a thing! They spend all this time preparing me for exams, but they forget to mention the one thing that'll protect us.
Heads up about the TV License - you can use your parents' one so long as the appliance used to watch television is not plugged into the mains e.g. a laptop/ iPad
That birthday candles one is so true, my flat mate in first year had her birthday on the third day and she was really sad and missing her family and boyfriend so we threw her a party, she was so pleased
Can I as a graduate of 30 years ago add a wok. You can get cheap vege at the end of the day before the shop shuts and make cheap and tasty stir fries. Go to your local Asian supermarket and buy a sack of rice and some soy sauce. Wellies. I went to my home town uni of Edinburgh but tbe amount of people who arrived in Scotland to face the depth of Winter in flimsy little shoes was amazing. Also bring a comfort blanket for curling up in front of the telly when you are homesick 💟
Loved this video!! I'm not going to uni until next year because I'm having a gap year but I've just come across this and I can already tell it is going to be so helpful! Thanks a lot x
Where I live we don't live at the uni, but I'm moving out in like a month! So whether it's a uni room or a new apartment, this was quite helpful. Lovin' it.
Great advice! :D Seems like a lifetime ago now since starting Uni. I was evening thinking when you said about getting a portable charger for your phone that my phone when I started college was able to text and play snake, thats was about it! We needed an actual Real life maps back in my day *cries in corner over dying youth*
omg im so glad i watched this video ,forgot all about the jab and am moving to uni this month will defo be visit my GP soon to get it ,thank you so much for the amazing tips xx
I'm in 3rd year and got my meningitis jab this year as I'm still in the age bracket! However, I went to my drs and the nurse didn't want to give it to my as i'm 'not in first year and don't need it' but i wasn't happy with that so i booked an appointment with my actual GP and got one that way and so glad I did. xx
I'm moving in less than 2 weeks, this is really helpful, I never thought of the thongs being a good idea but can u also do a tip on how to save up or budget for like food, outings with friends etc.
I'd like to be 18 too, but I'm not sure I'd want to go to university (right away). I'd surly go around at first, try my passions, and then settle down to study if luck wouldn't be in my favour.
Mamma Mia and Meryl were my homesick comfort blankets, cus you know I'm cool. Great vid, TONGS ARE THE BEST INVENTION IN THE WORLD! Great for spaghetti too and those 9 days worth of spag bol (just corrected to slag bol... ha)
Okay very late to the game, but honestly Thankyou for this video. I’ve watched a few others and lots of them were really daft like saying towels as if you’d forget that. Thanks for mentioning stuff you may genuinely not know to get or forget ahahahaha
hi can someone tell me why I'll need a laundry maiden/clothes draper thing, do the laundrettes not have dryers? why will my clothes be wet?? thank you xx
can anyone recommend good wash tape that definitely won't peel off the paint on the walls?! I move into halls on saturday and know my landlords will be gremlins if I so much as scratch the walls!
Washi tape is the way forward - I got two rolls of amazon, and they lasted me all year. I stuck pretty heavy polaroid photos up with it, as well as paper and wrapped presents and sealed envelopes with it to (student life). yeah it was pretty handy stuff to have!
You don't need a TV licence if you're just watching iplayer/4od/UA-cam/Netflix. you only need a licence if you'll be streaming live TV online or through an aerial. If you read the small print of the TV licence info or contact them they'll tell you the same. Don't waste all that money 'just in case' without reading up on it.
I hope go to University in October I went college only 1 year the summer exams really easier I was finished 10th May I did hospitality operations the college very small can wait for graduation day👩🏼🎓🎉😎🍾🎉🎉🍾🍾🎉🍾🎉😎😎😎😎
Syeda-Abiha Rizvi well you need to sort out your visa after that bring your passport bring clothes all necessities go on the university you want to go to and type in accommodation if you go on it it'll tell you what to bring
I'm only 11 but sixth grade is SOOOOO BORING! I just want to skip ahead to university! I've looked into Cambridge and they show a test or something you have to take (it's either for English, education or economics) and it's simple! I just wish I could skip right to college!
Trust me, everything would get to a point where you're so stressed you would wish to go back so enjoy your young times Secondary schooling would be a bloody hell
I was watching this out loud in the living rooms, and when you talked about condoms.. I rushed to lower the volume faster than ever haha! It got a little awkward, but true say anyway.
These are awesome ideas. When I go to uni, I'll be at home so some of them don't apply to me but they are wonderful ideas! Don't forget tampons or pads, get the biggest pack you can find! Even if you're a boy, if a girl has a surprise period, it's a great way to make new friends because you'll become 'that friend' who people can go to if desperate times. And if you're a girl, the big packs are normally cheaper and will last you months which is great! Also, post it notes. Not just for classes, but if you are stupidly exhausted and need to remember things, put a post it note near your underwear drawer or a place you know you will see it. Good job mentioning the budget, loads of people my age (24) and younger don't know how to budget. I get a pathetic amount of money and I have a child but because I'm incredible with budgeting, I'm able to save money every fortnight! Budgeting is boring for most people but you'll thank yourself later when you have small savings for times (pt 1)
(Pt 2) like wanting to go to a concert, wanting to buy a little coffee machine, when you're desperate for a pair of jeans, when you want to go on a big bar crawl or anything where you need more money than you can afford that pay week! Plus if you don't touch that money you save and the sooner you start saving, the more money you will have when you get older which will be brilliant. I have a friend who started saving half of her pay as soon as she started working and she had enough for an apartment loan when she turned 18 and purchased her first apartment. Which is crazily amazing! Your future self will thank you when you hit the time in your life when you need to make huge purchases for your future :). There's my annoying Mum wisdom! 💜
Lucy Wood my granddaughter will be joining uni next year so i thought i would watch your tips, i think you have done an excellent and very informative video, i will make sure she watches it , well done.
as long as you're not watching live TV you do not need a licence. Also unless you admit anything or caught red handed it's almost impossible to prosecute you.
+james harris You need to pay even if you just own a device capable of watching live TV now. When I moved house, they harassed my Dad instantly because we had laptops and stuff with us.
If the university you are considering is not in the top 50 save your money especially if you are not studying medicine, law, accountancy, engineering, psychology, forensic science. I was never even told university league tables by careers advisers. These people are not highly trained. Some jobs you do not even need a degree and they pay well. You just have to pass various psychometric tests. I would say half the universities out there are just a money making scheme to keep unemployment down. If staff turnover is high such as teaching then question why. Most teachers quit within 5 years. I did write a review for you all but whatuni.com has retention period of 5 years unfortunately.
this was probably the most useful university video ive watched so far
I got my jab last week. Do it do it do it! X
+Emily Canham Doesn't even hurt!
Woooo science! Thanks M, total babe x
A girl i know got meningitis from uni and had to have her legs amputated, please get it guys
Yes. It’s so important
Thank you so much for mentioning the Men jab! It's really important to me that most people our age get it now because my friend died of meningitis earlier this year whilst at university. Really appreciate you mentioning it!! xxx
+Jenny Sutcliffe Sings anyone from 17 - 25 or more I think can phone up their GP and ask for the jab for free.
I'm usually a little bit sceptical when it comes to ads, but you're doing it for a great cause! I like you :)
Oh thanks so much! I was really worried about doing my first one but I thought this one was worthwhile
Your video was great I'm hopefully off to uni in September! Harry Potter is my comfort as well. Some great tips :) xx
You don't need a TV licence for catch up or on demand tv (4od, iplayer, itv player, netflix). Have just checked this on the tv licencing site. You only need one for live TV. I'd recommend saving the money and just watching everything on catch up!
Georgia M or just say you have no tv
Georgia M Just an update for people watching this a year later - I don't know about the other catch-up channels, but BBC iPlayer now requires a TV license
I'm so glad you are back Lucy you are one of my favourites!
You only need a TV licence for BBC iplayer and live TV.. ITV Player, 4oD and Demand 5 are free and you don't need one for them!
Anyone else call a maiden a clothes horse?
maiden is old English for a hanging rack. clothes horse is on the ground
I wish I was going to university all over again... I'm seriously considering doing a PhD just so I can ignore the real world for another three years.
I relate to this on a spiritual level x
this is possibly the most accurate uni video I've ever seen, which I'd seen this before first year!

Literally just bought the 16 disk Harry Potter box set. Leaving next week! And I have had my jab. Everyone do it!
Where I live we don't live at the uni, but I'm moving out in like a month! So whether it's a uni room or a new apartment, this was quite helpful. Lovin' it.
Haha awesome, good luck moving out!
Never thought of half these things, thanks so much!
this is probably the most helpful college/uni video i've ever seen oh my god
i knew how to cook currys well eventually just did it.
Great advice! :D Seems like a lifetime ago now since starting Uni. I was evening thinking when you said about getting a portable charger for your phone that my phone when I started college was able to text and play snake, thats was about it! one of the most useful uni videos I've watched!

This was so useful! I start university in two days (eek!) and this has made me even more excited! 😄
I'm in 3rd year and got my meningitis jab this year as I'm still in the age bracket! However, I went to my drs and the nurse didn't want to give it to my as i'm 'not in first year and don't need it' but i wasn't happy with that so i booked an appointment with my actual GP and got one that way and so glad I did. xx

Tip 9 lmao very useful. And got to say out of all uni videos this is by far the best.
I'm moving in less than 2 weeks, this is really helpful, I never thought of the thongs being a good idea but can u also do a tip on how to save up or budget for like food, outings with friends etc.

Amazing! Good luck! Have the bestest time xx

Such a useful video ☺️ thank you so much!
I'd like to be 18 too, but I'm not sure I'd want to go to university (right away). I'd surly go around at first, try my passions, and then settle down to study if luck wouldn't be in my favour.
"some basic pirate accessories" omfg
I'm not even going into first year of uni, I'm heading into my final year but this was still so helpful!
I'm not even off to uni (am in my last year of high school) and really enjoyed this video😂💗
Haha awesome! Hopefully you can come back to it next year :)
Hadjar Taha same😂
This video was great and actually informative
Such a helpful video ! hopefully these things will help me
They will! Thanks for watching :)
i enjoyed your video Lucy, you are the best.
I don't need no tv license.. a Crunchyroll subscription service will be enough :)
Mamma Mia and Meryl were my homesick comfort blankets, cus you know I'm cool. Great vid, TONGS ARE THE BEST INVENTION IN THE WORLD! Great for spaghetti too and those 9 days worth of spag bol (just corrected to slag bol... ha)
Well duh, Lamble always needs a bit of Meryl on the go
This was so helpful as I"m moving to uni next Friday 😄
Amazing! Good luck, hope it's awesome for you :)
just found your channel through this video - it is so helpful, even if i'm already in my second semester ! also, you're just such a cutie
+Ricarda seven also, in addition of my fave film i've got a teddy with my mum's perfume for the homesick days (sounds cheesy, but it really helps)
NEEDED THIS I START SATURDAY
I didn't even feel my jab had happened and was in the nurse's room for less than a minute - DO IT!
Is that a "dark kiss" candle behind her!!!?? does it smell like the mist and the lotion? is it as strong??!! :/
Okay very late to the game, but honestly Thankyou for this video. I’ve watched a few others and lots of them were really daft like saying towels as if you’d forget that. Thanks for mentioning stuff you may genuinely not know to get or forget ahahahaha
Getting mine in a few hours!
I was wondering if I should ombre my hair again like a reaaaly soft ombre then your video poped up. Thanks. I will ombre my hair soon haha! xx
My hair isn't actually ombred, it must just be a natural colour change but go for it anyway! You'll look babein x
Woah it totally looks ombred! You are very lucky then! Xx
hi can someone tell me why I'll need a laundry maiden/clothes draper thing, do the laundrettes not have dryers? why will my clothes be wet?? thank you xx
some clothes can't be put in a dryer, so you might need somewhere to air dry clothes☺
+anna w thank you! I dryer everything regardless of the lable oopse ;) but thanks x
I'm moving to uni and I legit bought a colander this week ahahhaa love it 😂
I hope to be in a university.
Hahaha I'm completely the same! Harry Potter is my safe place when I'm not feeling great

Can have a tv in your dorms?
I'm only 16 but this makes me so excited for university!
You will be there before you know it!
Laura Clark bruh I'm 12
can anyone recommend good wash tape that definitely won't peel off the paint on the walls?! I move into halls on saturday and know my landlords will be gremlins if I so much as scratch the walls!
i know this is very late but did you ever find a good way of putting stuff up on the walls? I'm off to uni next month!
Washi tape is the way forward - I got two rolls of amazon, and they lasted me all year. I stuck pretty heavy polaroid photos up with it, as well as paper and wrapped presents and sealed envelopes with it to (student life). yeah it was pretty handy stuff to have!
brilliant thankyou!

+shutupsteph Great stuff! Hopefully people would actually look into seeing whether they need one before forking out for one x
shutupsteph you do for i player as tv licenses are to watch BBC! However for Netflix, now tv and UA-cam you dont
Actually you don't need a TV license for stuff on demand
But you do if you want to watch iplayer unfortunately :/
Years do not equal wisdom but experience :-)
needed this video, thank u sm
I hope go to University in October I went college only 1 year the summer exams really easier I was finished 10th May I did hospitality operations the college very small can wait for graduation day👩🏼🎓🎉😎🍾🎉🎉🍾🍾🎉🍾🎉😎😎😎😎
So what sorts of things would you need a tv licence for?
watching tv
watching or recording live tv
Watching BBC iplayer
This was super helpful xx
You recommended getting a TV license but did you get a TV as well? Was it at the start or later in the year?
If you come from a really weird tiny town that no one has ever heard of be prepared to explain where said town is to ALL of the people you meet!
LB representing xxxxx
so helpful thanks!!!
My mum has had meningitis 4 times and I couldn't agree more about getting the jab!! X
Wow, your poor mum! Hope she's okay, actual super mum xx
+Lucy Wood thank you!! She had it and then got it again within a year 😬💪 xx
what if you are coming from another country? what should i bring, leave and buy there
Syeda-Abiha Rizvi well you need to sort out your visa
after that bring your passport
bring clothes all necessities
go on the university you want to go to and type in accommodation if you go on it it'll tell you what to bring
You have a like My Little Pony hair parting, it's cute haha :)
What on earth is a TV license??
It's a license you need to buy from TV Licensing to legally watch live TV
The thing you need to pay for to legally watch television in the UK!
You only need a TV license if you watch BBC iplayer live though right? If its catch up I think youre OK! Super video though Lucy :)
Oh actually you might be right there... I'll pop an annotation on the video. Thanks!
+Lucy Wood my brothers going to uni next week and he's bought a TV license because you need it for catch up shows x
Hey, where did you get the budget planner from? x
who needs a tv when u can just netflix? ;)

Hahaha this is so cute, and Cambridge?
oh boy
i go to uni in 10 days (insane) and i have none of these things D: so unprepared
Awooooo, not long to go! Have a great time x
thankyou :) im well scared
Are you welsh? 🌸💕
great video!
OOOH you're smart :) thanks
I was watching this out loud in the living rooms, and when you talked about condoms.. I rushed to lower the volume faster than ever haha! It got a little awkward, but true say anyway.

💜
+Jes Pearl tip top advice you wise owl! Also grrrrreat shout on the tampons!
Lucy Wood my granddaughter will be joining uni next year so i thought i would watch your tips, i think you have done an excellent and very informative video, i will make sure she watches it , well done.
'even though you packed, like, the entire world' ME
You DO NOT need a TV licence if you're only watching catch-up.
+RainyorSunnyEnding Starting soon you will need one for iPlayer.
+GoldenSnow seriously? That's a joke
as long as you're not watching live TV you do not need a licence. Also unless you admit anything or caught red handed it's almost impossible to prosecute you.
+james harris You need to pay even if you just own a device capable of watching live TV now. When I moved house, they harassed my Dad instantly because we had laptops and stuff with us.
For catch up you do, but I'm living at home so I don't need a tv license because my mum already has one
awesome
Very good video! :)
Where is that bowl from ? 😍
It's from a wholesale place called Inspirations! I'll check when I get home and see if there's a brand name on it :)
I'm moving in September :) I'm super nervous!
Your eyes are gorgeous!
WHOO!!! I love Harry Potter too!!! :)
15-YES!! HARRY POTTER!
You hoping to get condoms back when you lend them out then? haha
LOL fuck the tv tax
