Make a section of your notebook/binder/bullet journal, or even just a google doc, with all your professor/advisors/TA office hours and emails. Add to it any tutoring hours, lab hours, or study group times. That way you're not flipping through a million syllabi to find out where/when you can see someone.
You can also make a hidden calendar on google calendar where you can un-hide it with all of the professor's hours and class details :) And it also doesn't clog up your normal calendar events when it's hidden
I’m 37 and an online college student. I showed my student ID at a boba shop (to get a discount), and I don’t think the girl REALLY believed I was in college, she politely asked me what I was studying 🤣 haha.
My essential item is a power bank. You'd think it would be easy to find power outlets to charge your phone on a big college campus, but you'd be wrong. A power bank is super useful when you're spending your entire day on campus, especially if you have an older phone with a bad battery like mine.
I graduated in 2016, age 57. My favorite was: good pens, lined paper, and a student planner. I tracked club meetings, due dates, and reading assignments - a monthly spread and a weekly spread. If I had a big research paper due, I would list research and writing times, then schedule myself the number of pages to write each week. It is essential to have meetings with Professors, to discuss assignments, and to ask further questions. Never be afraid to ask questions. Allow yourself 2-4 hours per day to read, it is more important than any other activity, and the library has plenty of study areas. Don't waste time on partying all night, it makes poor grades.
I agree with not partying all night, but make sure that you’re actually having fun! It’s an Incredible experience, and grades are very important, however they shouldn’t be the only thing in your mind 24/7. Also, congratulations Mary!
I went through 3 years to get my degree, and the number one tip that I can give is to just breathe. Place your hands on your desk, close your eyes, and breathe. Focus on just your breath and mentally tell yourself "breathe in....breathe out..." 2 or 3 minutes helps so much. It's simple yet effective, I promise. 💜 And if any of you are starting college/university soon, don't worry. You'll do great. I'm rooting for you. 💜
I'm not even stressed about going into my final year of university, but your video calmed me anyway ! You give such great advice, like keeping photos and moments from these years!
I have seen multiple videos on "back-to-school" and by far this has been the most helpful. The advice you gave, the things you suggested to invest in, none of it is over-the-top or boujee. Thank you so much.
Shocked you don't have a million subscribers. You're intelligent, funny, articulate, and have lots of great and unique bullet journal ideas. I hope your channel continues to thrive!
The tip about having a go-to professional outfit is so good, especially for business majors! At my school, the business classes usually required business attire even just for in-class presentations.
Definitely for business majors- but all areas of studies can have networking events too! And ohh how interesting- our school didn’t make it a requirement to dress up for presentations, but students often did haha 😂🙌
I just graduated, and I miss college all ready. I miss the moments and the classes. I don't miss the homework though. My biggest advice is just a reiteration of what you said: having a planner is SO helpful, and document your time at college whether that be through photos and videos of journaling or both. I did both, and I'm super glad I did. I just wish I had started doing it my first year instead of starting my second year.
I started using Last Pass about 2 years ago and it was the best thing ever for me and my team. Life saver when there's too much on my brain already.. haha
A good tip I suggest is make a study group! Create a group me, split the the reading or bounce back ideas it helped me a lot when I had reliable people that had the same goals as me to get an A ! 🤓
This is really enlightening! I'm a year 12 student doing the IB and I'm currently in my mock exams and going to sit finals in November. This is really going to help me plan and enjoy my uni life after graduating!
Just a small idea, but as a person soon graduating high school and going on her own I think it would supper cool if you would make a video on how to prepare for an interview, how to make your resume stand out, etc etc. just basic adulting things you learn throughout the years. Thanks!! Love your videos btw ❤️
Adulting is not a job or education, its having a true goal or a vision for your life and deciding to go after it, its to know who you are and what you want and constantly going after learning and growing and the betterment of your self, adulting is.. To connect with your self
Hi Caitlin! Can you do a video of some of your go-to outfits for interviews, presentations, networking events, etc...? I'm going into my first year of uni majoring in business so I would love to see some of your fave styles! Thanks :)
For the printer, I have an HP Envy 5052 and not only was it super affordable (I got it at my local Walmart for less than USD $100) but it has a lot of handy features for students. It comes with an app (not sure if they offer an Android app though since I’m an Apple user) so you can print from your phone, iPad, desktop and other mobile devices. My favorite part of this printer series though is that they have a subscription service for ink. Basically, you make an account with HP and connect the printer and then HP keeps track of when you run out of ink. When they sense that you’re running out of ink, they send you a new cartridge of ink, and they only send one of the color you’re running out of. They also only charge you the $6 to your bank account when they’re getting ready to send you the ink, so it’s not like a regular subscription service where they charge you every month no matter what. They stay environmentally friendly too because they send an envelope with the ink cartridge that you put the empty ones in and you send them back to HP and they recycle them for you! It was a very good investment on my part I think, cause over time, ink can get suuuuper expensive.
My essential is this: someone on staff on campus that you can go to for anything. I have a mentor/friend/“mom” on campus and she has saved my ass or just been there for me more times than I can count!
How, thats what im trying to find im a freshman and i dont know university positions yet all i know is that there are proffecors and people who do paper work how can you find someone like that?
Always have a water bottle with you and something to snack on. You never know when you'll be late or your favorite restaurant or store is closed or you simply run out of time.
Great video! Instrumental playlists were crucial for my studying time, too! I would say another thing that was useful for me was a library card. I went to school for history, and I used my university library SO MUCH for resources. However, there were times when they didn’t have something available. The city library would usually have it, so I would check it out from there. My senior thesis required at least twenty sources, so the city library was a big help with that. 😊
I'm still in University, only now I'm a teacher there, and these tips are so so so valuable, specially the planner one! Even for people working there too, academic life can get hectic and if you don't sort your life with a planner, for example, you end up working from 11 pm to 4 am (as I have done, multiple times, specially after I graduated). Also, the backing up your files advice is the best one. Honestly. Do a monthly backup of everything. Put that in your calendar/planner
Hi I'm new to your channel , it is awesome! Guess what I'm a 49 year old college student , heading I to my 2nd year and my first piece of advice is to never be afraid to ask for help. My second piece of advice would be to take advantage of all the student resources available on campus.
Caitlin, your video was very informative but most importantly concise. People have a tendency to go on and on when they're talking about something they are passionate for. Unfortunately I'm done with university but for a moment there I wish I had this video to help me prep lol
This was such a great video! I especially liked the bit about having clothing ready for events and interviews, it’s something that is definitely not mentioned very often. I would say my best piece of advice would be balance is sacrifice. I guess this depends on the kind of person you are, but I easily get overwhelmed when I feel like I have to do everything at once, so I tend to think of balance in that way. One day I focus more on school, one day more on self care and one day more on socializing. That has helped me a lot through out the last school year.
Can you make a video on how you found an apartment close to school? Like tips and tricks of what to look out for location, price and community wise? Would be really helpful, thank you!
my tip- don't stay at your home town university to "save money"- you don't save all that much and you miss out on a lot of university experiences by living at home :/
@@tooturntdenise I don't have a lot of money... I'm just saying you're still no matter what spending thousands of dollars and if you're not fully enjoying it and literally dread walking on the campus of your school (like myself lol) it's seen as a waste.. at least in my eyes
@@JennaStreich I know this was a year ago but... for anyone who still sees this stuff and lives in the west side of the U.S - *LOOK AT WUE PLEAAAASE.* It really helps if you want to go out of state, as wue can give you in-state prices. No need to show financial need too, so it’s great for middle class. Otherwise, college can be really expensive. Home state cost of attendance for me is ~$30,000 while going somewhere like University of Oregon costs ~$58,000. That’s a lot. (U can’t get WUE at all universities in the west btw)
Hi Caitlin! I am going to uni this fall so I can't wait to start using all these tips. Thanks for such an awesome video! I love your channel so much, keep up the awesome work :)
I'm a mature student just going into my second year and I LOVE my student discount 😄😄 My one piece of advice would be don't buy all the books on your reading list (I swear half of them you only use for one lesson and then never open again!) find out the essentials buy them (2nd hand if you can) the rest get into your library early and book them out. If you have a scanner/printer scan the pages you'll need or take pics on your phone, it saves carrying around the books.
I know i am a little late to this video Caitlin, but I organize myself in a way that I know what I am doing in college meaning that yes I do have a planner, digital one at best. I use Microsoft to do app on my phone, laptop and iPad. it is simple and useful, then I use obs and another word document for when I am doing assignments. so I record and write down what I am doing as I go a long the assignment. I edit down the video to the most important parts using shortcut video editor.
im a senior and i start next year. very excited also, as a dual credit student (being enrolled in both highschool and college) you get all the benefits a full time student gets, so take use of it. i have free amazon prime because im technically a college student, and i've gotten several discounts. theres more benefits than just getting college credit (: edit: spelling
I use 1password and I love it. No matter what password manager you use though, I agree that it’s definitely beneficial to have one. Also, I will be finishing graduate school this semester but I agree with all of your tips.
#1 for me is to have good boots for rain season, because drainage in my city is not the best one. Plus they are more comfortable if you have to walk a lot with a backpack.
GIRL NO WAY! i was watching your video and then BAM you start mentioning all these U of T sites and places! Im a Missisauga girl and also at U of T!! Did not expect you to be so close haha.
Thinking that my final year in chemistry is in less than 3 weeks makes me wanna stay in my bed so idk why I'm watching this and adding more stationary to my cart...
I remember back in first year having to leave 10 minutes early from my 1st year chem class in OISE to make it to my geography class in the Earth Sciences building. I dont miss those days at all.
Ahh! In my first year at UofT I had POL101 in ConHall and I immediately had to RUN to Bader right after for my history lecture. There were many instances where I just ran across the street between Hart House and Queens Park just...hoping I wouldn't die.
THREE HOLE PUNCHER!! As a music major this saved me with punching in any solos I did over the past years at my university. If u r the kind of student who like things in binders I would highly suggest this.
I was “lucky” enough to have almost all my classes in the faculty of music building so not much commuting time but when we DID have to go to a class even across the street at Bader we always complained lolol EDIT: my tip as someone who’s gone to grad school and now works with primarily undergraduate students: learn to write a concise but professional email. There are probably many articles on this but if you can learn to be considerate of the person on the other end of that email, it will go a long way in your favour. This means both not writing paragraphs and paragraphs of text for a simple request (this used to be me) AND not writing in the same way you would text a friend. I don’t want to advocate for academic contexts becoming stuffy and inaccessible, but professors and university staff have so much on their plate and it means a lot when students take the time to communicate effectively.

OMG, my first essential was a computer/laptop to take my notes!
I honestly dont care much for pretty notes, so all I do for taking notes is seperate an A4 paper into two columns and write out a condensed summary of the notes I took in class, just in pencil *gasp* then I numerize those pages and I have a condensed note pile to study off of
RELATE HARD WHEN: I leave lecture from Lash Miller 20 mins early to walk all the way to OISE everyday for tutorial right after only to find 3/4 of the seats already taken before tutorial started #UOFT Represent :) Keep up the great videos

Quick tip for other incoming university students. You don't always need to buy your books brand new. As we all know, textbooks can be very expensive. Sometimes there are other students who took the course before you who might be selling used copies. Or sometimes the professor does not even use the book throughout the semester. Wait until after the first class to determine if you should buy your book brand new or even buy it at all :)
Check your school libraries too! They have textbooks that you can sign out for a couple days (depending on your school). I've even seen some people buy textbooks new, take pictures and returned them 😂😂
INVEST TIME IN SETTLING IN AT UNI - Dont expect to have the hang of everything from day 1. Invest time (all of first semester for instance) in finding the right study pace, tecnique etc for you. Get inspired by professors advices, friends, SoMe influencers, but reflect on it and only keep it, if it works for you. That saves you a lot of time during the rest of your uni-life and makes it more relaxing and satisfying!! (For the nerdy ones: It is my impression that - in Denmark at least - teachers have for a decade, maybe more, been freightened to commit to the wrong "school" of study tecnique resulting in no training in study tecnique or "how to wright a big assignment" at all. So those who haven't got a personal network, parents, older siblings in uni, uncles, friends of the family etc. who can teach and train their study skills are poorly prepared for uni. My hope is that high schools or the ministery of education will soon realize that any training in this area is better than complete passivity caused by being afraid to commit to one/the wrong tecnique.)
Could you do a student weekly layout with plenty of space to write each day and Dutch doors ? I’ve been trying to think about how to do this, but I’m not super creative. Thanks!
Heyy, could you do a video on what to expect when you're going to university( the pressure, deadlines, essays) how much intense it was for you at uoft, how you learned to manage everything. I am coming to uoft in the fall and would love to know these!
I just started college not expecting it to be that challenging. 2 weeks in so far and I've already been given 3 huge assignments and I just don't have time to do anything other than college😅😅😅
Hey! Thank you for your videos they're really helpful! I noticed you have clothes from Zara and other fast fashion companies. I am suggesting that you look more into fast fashion and sustainable- ethical fashion. I believe you will be amazed on the impact you can have on the world by changing your shopping habits. I spent 4 years at U of T so I can relate to the dreadful missions across campus (especially in winter) - now I'm starting professional school and I'm literally so happy I only have to stay in one building on most days lol :')

Download the ScannerPro app on your phone and pay for the pro version! The OCR feature works like a dream and saved me a lot a time (copying and pasting) and money (not buying textbook and renting from the library and scanning a important paragraph or section)

Wich uni are u from?
I thought you would recommend materials things, and you did but your advices are ahead of that. Thanks you much!
I like how for the closet, you actually went in your closet.
i’m actually starting at u of t this year !! super excited
THREE HOLE PUNCHER!! As a music major this saved me with punching in any solos I did over the past years at my university. If u r the kind of student who like things in binders I would highly suggest this.
I was “lucky” enough to have almost all my classes in the faculty of music building so not much commuting time but when we DID have to go to a class even across the street at Bader we always complained lolol
EDIT: my tip as someone who’s gone to grad school and now works with primarily undergraduate students: learn to write a concise but professional email.
I honestly dont care much for pretty notes, so all I do for taking notes is seperate an A4 paper into two columns and write out a condensed summary of the notes I took in class, just in pencil *gasp* then I numerize those pages and I have a condensed note pile to study off of
I'm starting university in september and I'm so excited!!
RELATE HARD WHEN: I leave lecture from Lash Miller 20 mins early to walk all the way to OISE everyday for tutorial right after only to find 3/4 of the seats already taken before tutorial started
#UOFT Represent :)
Keep up the great videos

"You can show your personalities in your business formal"
My personality: Hoodies and leggings
my conclusion: Find a company that doesn't have uniforms
I graduated in May so I don't even know why I'm here. Force of habit? Lololol

Not related to the topic but sis can really model those blazers
Bringing a microwaveable cup and instant coffee ☕️ Saved me so much money during finals

im going to uoft in september and almost all of my classes are on the opposite side of each other on campus !!! headphones will be my new best friend :)
YESSSS !! Great advice !! 🙌🙌🙌 thanks for sharing :)
Check your school libraries too! They have textbooks that you can sign out for a couple days (depending on your school). I've even seen some people buy textbooks new, take pictures and returned them 😂😂
Erika Leung yessss definitely.
Please make a video about fashion/styling! I really like your style💜💜
this was incredibly helpful -- thank you for being the best, Caitlin
People do make undated diary’s. You can start when you want. Archer and Oliver have ones with a few dot grid pages at the end of each week.
For backpacks try Kipling. I had a bag from themthat lasted 5 years in mint condition. My brother had his for over 7 years. They're fantastic.
Thanks for the great content! I am going into final year and I'm getting the itch already to organise and your videos have been so helpful!
Could you do a student weekly layout with plenty of space to write each day and Dutch doors ? I’ve been trying to think about how to do this, but I’m not super creative. Thanks!
Yess lol I go to U of T, last year I had a class in Vic College and Lash Miller back to back -- I was always late to the second class haha
The quality of this video is amazing! So informative and engaging - love your editing! x
Means the world to get comments like this ❤️ so happy you enjoyed this one!! Thanks for watching 😍💕
@@caitlinmariedasilva Loved it!! :) You look so gorgeous too, fashion sense is to die for ❤️x
such an all rounder video. love it!
Caitlin: put on a blazer, skirts etc so that you are always ready for any interviews etc
Me in a hoodie 24/7.... : alright I don t think so
Nice tipps 🤗🤗 I would also recommend a Coffee thermo mug to safe money and have warm coffe for the cold season 😉😉
I'm not even a student anymore but I'm watching all the back to school videos nonetheless 😂😂
i loveee ur videosss! especially about universityyyyyyyy
Hey! Thank you for your videos they're really helpful! I noticed you have clothes from Zara and other fast fashion companies. I am suggesting that you look more into fast fashion and sustainable- ethical fashion. I believe you will be amazed on the impact you can have on the world by changing your shopping habits. Have a good day!
Yay ! Thanks to you I'll be ready for my first college year 🙏🏽🙏🏽💕😇
Awww ! ❤️❤️❤️ you’re going to have an amazing time !!
Caitlin's Corner hope so ☺️☺️
I'm a bit nervous 😅🙈
You didn't mention Unidays. They have student discounts year round
Blue Violets student beans is also another one in the UK
A bit late but I enjoyed this!
I'm ESFP aka I hate planning and being organised😭💀. To do lists are not my type too... Guess I really have to step out from my comfort zone🐮
I spent 4 years at U of T so I can relate to the dreadful missions across campus (especially in winter) - now I'm starting professional school and I'm literally so happy I only have to stay in one building on most days lol :')
My school required us to dress formal for most of the events ( on regular days we had uniforms) so i am really used to it.
Good on ye girl, there’s some really sound advice in here, thank you for giving me some great ideas to follow through on.
I'm about to be a first year at Uot! Definitely gonna have to learn to walk fast between classes, mine are all over campus haha
This video really helped me, im going to be a freshman in college😬
Ayeeeeee someone recent, so I can say same 😂 have u already committed to a school? I know I haven’t. Still deciding.
I don't know if I'm purchasing a hard drive because there is Google Drive or Dropbox....
Can you link your blazers please?
Oh my back to back classes at oise and con hall are torture, especially in the winter. And they’re not even the furthest apart on campus
I just finished my second week of school and I've been watching so many school and studying videos, love this❤
Hope it’s been a great start so far!!
You look gorgeous by the way. Your skin looks fantastic. I working on getting a really solid outfit because of your tips. I work in healthcare so i typically wear scrubs but I def need a business casual outfit. Thank you for the advice.
I’m too lazy to make my own spread. I stick with the normal planner. Lol 😂
Loved your advice!!💗
Download the ScannerPro app on your phone and pay for the pro version! The OCR feature works like a dream and saved me a lot a time (copying and pasting) and money (not buying textbook and renting from the library and scanning a important paragraph or section)
I’m going to need to speed run from con hall to OISE for my physiology tutorial 😭😭
