      I tried to watch the film last night but found it maudlin sentimental tosh, which is a shame because it doesn’t do the real story justice. (Just my opinion folks, so don’t go bananas 😃)

    Receiving mail was a reminder of home which kept most of the soldiers going. These women were the behind the scenes patriots no one hears of. Great diversity in your subjects, keep up the good work.

      It’s a different aspect of the war for myself but an important story and their role was truly vital. Having waited overseas myself on mail I know how frustrating it can be or how it arriving can brighten your day so for the GI’s back then when email wasn’t a thing I can only imagine how it affected their morale!

      Having been overseas serving and waited on post back in the early 2000’s even with the advent of email it’s still grinding when it doesn’t show up!
      I can’t even imagine how bad it was for the GI’s on the front lines who’d been away from home for all those years

      Glad you enjoyed it! It wasn’t a glamorous role but getting the mail to where it needed to be in the days before email was important and like everyone else they played their part so hopefully it adds some historical context to the new movie. Thanks for watching.

    Wow I'm 56yrs young, and I sadly must admit I never heard of it, I'm not sure who to blame for that, but anyway Tyler Perry knocked it out of the ball⚾️park AGAIN! this part of history/ HerStory! Normally they only show Black Men contribution in War, but to see Black Women contribution in 1945 AMAZING MOVIE!

    No mail, low morale of soldiers and other personnel in theatres of war. The 6888 did it. Plus it helped not only the armed Forces personnel but their families as well. Good morale was key on both the soldiers side and their families. Important for the whole nation as US fought in Europe and the Pacific. Excellent story.

    • @WW2Wayfinder
      @WW2Wayfinder  Місяць тому +2

      Thank you Mary. Good point about their families! It certainly was a monumental effort on the part of the 6888, and an aspect of the war often overlooked as it's not a daring parachute raid or massed tank battle but their role was equally vital to ensuring the US Army could support its fighting elements!

    Based on the description of him in Rick Atkinson's book, "The Guns At Last Light," if the women of the 6888th impressed General C. H. Lee, the commander of COMZ, they must have been really, really sharp! He was probably worse than Patton when it came to rigidly enforcing military protocol.

    • @WW2Wayfinder
      @WW2Wayfinder  Місяць тому +1

      Agreed! I've read elsewhere that COMZ was a real stickler for the rules so great that their marching impressed him. From the original footage of that parade I've seen they looked really sharp!

      @@WW2Wayfinder I was very impressed with the quality of your UA-cam channel even before you did this tribute to the women of the 6888th. Winning World War II required massive efforts and extreme sacrifice from many millions of people from all parts of the world. This is especially true when it came to groups of people who were at best, marginalized by many members of the "greatest generation." It is a shame that only with the passing of 80 plus years that these kinds of stories have been allowed to emerge, far too late for most of those who endured the racial injustices and persevered to recognized and vindicated for doing so. Thank you for being one of the honest historians of WWII who is consistently working to pass on real history which includes both its warts and indignities and triumphs to future generations.

    • @WW2Wayfinder
      @WW2Wayfinder  Місяць тому

      It’s a key role in conflict and one that is hugely underestimated as it’s not a daring raid behind enemy lines or similar. It’s a low key job but with a huge effect on the front lines. Ultimately all the GI’s had to look forward to was a letter or parcel from or being told the war was over!
