My quadriceps are suffering the same. I'm Korean and I've been experiencing the same symptoms since 3 years ago. It was about 3 months after I started cycling. This cannot be considered DOMS or simple muscle cramps. It's as if my leg is being cut, and I feel a burning sensation. Even when I go to the hospital, they just tell me to rest, and I'm tired of hearing that kind of talk. In the meantime, I found the same forum as yours, and got a lot of information. I'm currently off the bike for about a month, and I'm going to take the MTHFR test like Katie Compton said.
Have you ever taken the MTHFR gene test?

I didn't see your last comment. Did you solve it with uric acid?

Yes. No beer, limit red meat. No she’ll fish. Glass of cherry cherry juice every day. That will keep your acid levels down. Been good so far for me. Hope it helps.

It was basically like having gout in your quads. Felt just as painful as well.

Hey Wayne, same thing happened to me. I’m so addicted to cycling and taking a few days off was tough but what helped was acupuncture. It helps flush the lactic acid and it’ll help enormously. Give it a shot and hope you feel better!

Hey Wayne, I know I messaged you with a few items. Disclaimer - I'm not an M.D. (or even played one on T.V. basically ex-jock that "used to could"). Blood work would be a good step just to check overall liver and kidney function. However, this sounds very specific and could point to circulatory but I don't even think that is the issue. Hydration levels are probably good so possibly your creatine level could be looked at (hydration at the cell level). Physical exercise increases oxygen levels and circulation. Perhaps the lack of riding for a few days points to oxygen/circulation. Inflammation within your system somewhere could inhibit circulation. Without going full anti-inflammatory you could try some natural sources, turmeric or ginger have compounds that fight inflammation. Nothing new here as you've probably heard this stuff from everyone. See if your Primary Care Physician can refer you up to a Sports Medicine Specialist (provided your insurance allows for it). I'm a patient with the Sports Medicine Doctors for Kaiser Healthcare and work directly with the Team the supports the Sacramento Kings NBA. They have a very different approach compared to Primary Care. Alternatively, only 2 day rest periods, just RIDE ON! (only joking to a certain degree, do not ignore your body trying to tell you something).

Hi Wayne, thanks for making this video, I’m feeling these exact symptoms right now. The weird thing is, it started 15 minutes after I took a pretty bad fall and landed on my hip and on my right side. The quads lock up, burn like hell, and can’t bend my legs at all when it happens. Laying straight-legged, elevating the legs, and applying ice helps get rid of it short term, but I haven’t found anything to help fully get rid of this.
Also worth noting, I tried to cycle yesterday (3 days after the fall) and half a mile in, worst episode yet.
Sounds/feels like symptoms of a quad strain or tear but the pain literally migrates around my legs, and even goes to the leg that I didn’t land on.
Would appreciate any advice as I’m currently laying uselessly in my bed with work that I desperately want to get back to. Thanks again for the video, glad I’m not alone in this.

It turned out to be uric acid for me. Like having gout in my leg. Most painful experiences in my life. I eat clean, no beer and have a glass of cherry juice to help neutralize the acid every day.

Just now experiencing this ... I attended a cycling class w/ my wife few days ago. Immediately I felt such a tightness in my quads. The following days I felt a little sore and proceeded to stretch throughout the day(s). Last nite was the worst. I couldn't bend my legs & they felt completely bruised & very painful to move to the point I would lose my breath at times. I can only walk stiff legged as if I have stilts on. I've even applying icy hot cream & just lay with my legs straight. It's Saturday evening now & hope I will be ready & feeling better for work on Monday. My cousin (works in the medical field) mentioned this after seeing your video: It's sounds like Rhabdomyolysis from what he's describing. It's usually from excessive workout to the area or prolonged pressure on the area.

My legs always feel fine until the 3rd or 4th day off the bike. Think our conditions are different. No matter how hard I ride or train my legs are fine until I stop riding

Any update on this? I’ve been suffering with this exact issue for years. I’m working with a rheumatologist now to try and figure it out. I love cycling too much to give it up completely. Sometimes I’ll go on for months with no issues then out of the blue it happens and I’m out for a month. freaking sucks man. I feel your pain. By no means is it pain that I can convey its a pain level of 15 out of 10. I hope we can all figure out what is causing the issue or atleast find preventive measure.

Hey Late Risers, no I have not figured it out yet.. Kid got covid last week so i quarantined for a week with no rides so I'm going through the pain right now.. By chance do you have high uric acid levels? Only preventive measures is don't take more than 3 days off the bike for me... What a brutal way to live.. And your right you can't convey the pain... I got gout a few months ago so my uric acid levels are elevated.. Was just curious if that might have anything to do with it..

By chance do you have high uric acid levels? The only pain I can associate it with is a gout attack. I’m thinking it’s related

My quads burn when I ride in really low zone2. After 30min my quads are on fire and i cant get my hr up to like 130. It’s soo boring.

    • @WayneDesilets
      @WayneDesilets  Рік тому

I figured it out... It's Uric acid attacking my muscles, been susceptible to gout.. Drink a glass of concentrate cherry juice every morning.. No issues..

You might want to see a dr. for that.. Sounds strange.

Hi there, have you gotten checked or addressed this issue? I wanted to mention that it could be associated with saddle position, for example too low and/or too forward will cause your quads to engage more.

My quads are quite painful at night until the next day after doing 50km of ride at moderately high intensity. The funniest part is only my quads are painful, nothing else. Im not sure is related to uric acid. Anyway to reduce uric acid?

How was your urine color? The internet cannot diagnose you. You need to see a doctor. This could be something like rhabdo.
