I love Linda Ronstadt, I have seen her live so many times. The first time I saw her was in a smallish club in Los Angeles. She was with the Stone Poneys and she came out barefoot and in a kind of country girl dress. She was so young and so beautiful but when she started singing, I was blown away by her incredible vocal chops. Linda only wrote a dozen or less of the songs she sang and made famous, she was mostly a singer, but what a singer she was. She now suffers with Parkinson's Disease (which she says she inherited from her grandmother, along with so many other wonderful things) and is unable to sing but I am grateful for all of the wonderful music she has left for us to enjoy.
Linda's voice was rich and special she could convey such a huge range of emotions with her vocals. You should listen to her version of "Someone To Lay Down Besides Ma", "You're No Good", "Hurts So Bad" and "Desperado".
I am the same age as Linda and followed her whole career. I was in college,, military and graduate school during the years she was performing on TV variety shows weekly. She was mesmerizing and had voice tone and control like no other. 11 Grammys to her credit. Her voice can take you to a place you have not been before. She was very beautiful and most young men , including myself, fell in love with her. You have the same response now that we did when watching all of these shows in real time fifty years ago. This video reaction brings back powerful memories and we are brought back in time to see what we observed over fifty years ago in person...and it brings tears to our eyes as is accompanied by the flood of emotions of the experiance.....good reaction to the top female vocalist of all time ..DB
Such a melancholy song. The most beautiful voice ever recorded. I came of age in the late 60's - early 70's listening to this music. To this day, my wife still teases me that Linda Ronstadt is the only woman that tempts my marriage vows.
Before some of The Eagles became The Eagles, they were Linda Ronstadt’s band. Then at some point, they parted amicably, and with her loving well wishes to form the band we know as The Eagles.❤️💯🤩✨🎶🎶🎶
Linda had incredible power, range, subtlety, and skill with her voice. You can take such a deep dive into her work. A few standout songs: "Desperado," "You're No Good," "Blue Bayou," "What's New," "I've Got a Crush On You," "Different Drum," "La Charreada." Folk, rock, country, American Songbook, Mexican Traditional and even light opera. She can do it all.
She has a heart stopping voice as well as knee buckling beauty, and it is captivating both ways. "Love Has No Pride" (Live or studio will work) will do the same as this one CR. Her older oldies were something special.
I’m feeling it right there with you. Such an emotional, heartfelt song. Linda was incredible. She was in a league of her own. Such a great reaction. Thank you so much for feeling it and connecting to the story she’s telling in her song. ❤️
You're a good man. I enjoy your enjoyment, of the great artists you react to. And what's great for me is, you are going through my own record collection, from 30 or more years ago. Thank you.
I look for Linda reactions every day. Keep digging. She's just a young adult here. Can't wait for you to hear her as she progresses into different genres. Every musician looks up to her. Nobody ever did what she did to break records, break hearts and break the rules.
Thank you for doing this. I often request her songs and I always recommend her live performances except for this song. That’s because I have never found a live version that features the entire song. That’s because of the time restraints of 1970’s TV. Fun fact: Linda often performed barefoot, even on television. Anyway, she has the most beautiful voice on the planet. Thanks again for giving this stunningly talented woman the attention she deserves. 🌺✌️
Love the Linda reactions. Tumbling Dice from the Rolling Stones is some rocking Linda. Also La Charreada, La Cigarra, and What's New with Nelson Riddle Orchestra. These are all different flavors of what she can do. You will love them.
I agree Desperado (live version) ,Down so Low, I will always love you. So many songs from Rock to Mexican, Opera in Pirates of Penzance amazing. Keep listening to her and dig deeper you won't regret it.
Hey thanks for reading my comment about the "missing lyrics" from this song when Linda sings it live. Thanks so much for reacting to the studio version, I really appreciate it!!🙏😎👍There's also another beautiful song by Linda that is not that well known, it's called "The Dolphins' it's a beautiful song, I think you'll like it a lot.. I have ALL of her albums. I grew up in Los Angeles and met her a few times at stores in LA, and told her how much I loved her voice..way back when, she was always bare footed, with her big hoop earrings and even when she did some shows on tv and sang she was also bare footed!! When I was a young adult many people thought I looked a lot like Linda, (including my sisters and dad )I had the dark brown hair and bangs and big hoop earrings, but I didn't see it. However when I went to records stores in LA and some restaurants, so many people would come up to me and ask "for my autograph" and I was like "why"??.I would say "no I'm not her'...and they all told me "you could be Linda Ronstadt's twin". I went through that for quite a few years, so many people stopping me and telling me I looked just like her...who knew??
How about the addition of those lovely strings in this version? Sets the whole song off beautifully. Thanks for coming back around to this for the full sonic experience. And stop apologizing for showing a little emotion!! That's an asset not a drawback. Real reaction. Do you want to hear someone that would give Linda a run for her money? Try some Barbra Streisand. "Memory" *Official Video Version* .. and have tissues handy.
Thanks for your reaction to the entire song. Linda grew up immersed in Latin and Country music in a very musical family. From the formation of the Stone Poneys, the breadth and depth of genres she explored blossomed and far exceeded everyone's expectations. The return to her Mexican-American roots in Canciones De Mi Padre was fantastic and it was so greatly appreciated by Spanish speakers the world over. I loved her music in my twenties and I've come to appreciate her talent even more in my 70's.
Linda Ronstadt may be the most amazing female voice ever. Another favorite of mine is Margot Timmins of Cowboy Junkies. Ethereal cover of Lou Reed's Sweet Jane.
A major hook of this song is that when she ends every verse she says "I think I'm gonna LOVE you... ", until the last verse where it changes to "I think I'm gonna MISS you...." . Perfection...
1970's Long Long Time was Linda Ronstadts first solo single after The Stone Poneys disbanded. Long Long Time was written by Nashville songwriter Gary B White. One of my favorites by her.
Linda released this first as a single in the Summer I was born and it was a song I was raised with, which has always been a favorite. After seeing episode 3 of "The Last of Us," which used this song and was the title of the episode, it gave me a new appreciation for the song, which helped render me abjectly heartbroken.
This is my favorite Linda song and glad you reviewed it. This is true music, what music is all about. Today's music lacks storytelling, real instrumentation, and pure vocal talent.
It’s 1978 the album is called living In the USA the song I think you’ll like is called Alison it’s written by Elvis Costello. And beautifully done by Linda Ronstadt.
Linda and I are about the same age. As a young female singer I studied Linda obsessively. Not trying to sound like her because that was impossible, but to learn her impeccable timing and how to be authentic in every way. I was brave enough to cover one of her songs, never this one. It is her’s and hers alone. It breaks my heart every time I hear it. Never be ashamed of crying when listening to it. If you don’t feel it you don’t understand beautiful authentic music.
Linda Ronstadt: The Sound Of My Voice. An excellent documentary goes into the details of this song, and how it catapulted her into what she became. As the story goes, Linda was in NYC at a club as the opening act for Jerry Jeff Walker, after a show her guitarist Dave Bromberg said there was a good songwriter Gary White playing another club, and she should check him out for possible songs to do. They arrived for the last song of his set. After he packed up his guitar they went backstage and asked him if they could here some of his stuff. Long Long Time was the first song, Linda said she wanted to record it immediately. There’s more to the story, the documentary is a great watch. The rest is history. Her vocal talent was purely graced to her by a higher power. The only other female voices that have won me over as untouchable are Patsy Cline, and Edith Piaf. Totally unique, timeless, effortlessly fantastic, and other worldly 👍
So, not sure if you have already done a reaction to Linda's duet with Aaron Neville "Don't Know Much". It's so good. She also does a duet with James Ingram, "Somewhere out There". Both are excellent.
I think it was Willie Nelson who said, "There are only two kinds of men in the world, those who have a crush on Linda Ronstadt and those who never heard of her".
Linda made it during a period when the industry was dominated by male chauvinist producers and record executives, and she was uncompromising! Still, one of the nicest, most genuine persons you would ever meet. That said, she did have the heart of a Tiger and would not back down or bow to them! She was a very special person!
And I should have said Maria Muldaur. because although she doesn't ever get the credit she deserves, she could (and did) sing with the best of them. Like the great Mavis Staples.
When you hear songs written like this you know the writer was going through heartbreak. Fleetwood Mac's biggest hits in RUMORS were written when the entire and was going through big relationship issues. And it showed.
I appreciate your reactions. Regarding music from the 60's and 70's, I think it's generally wise to introduce yourself to new songs and artists from this period via their studio recordings. The audio technology in studios was so far superior to the technology of capturing the audio of live performances, that you can't fully appreciate the music. The studios were where musicians best applied their talents. Many or most big rock bands had very few television appearances and these TV venues rarely did justice to their talent. Most of the public never saw them perform live and only knew them via their records. The economics of music were reversed back then. Most of the money in the music business was generated from record sales and touring was done to support record releases. Now, most income comes from live concerts and recordings support concert ticket sales. I think hearing studio recorded version will help you better appreciate live performances later.
Again, Linda has one of them voices that shows vulnerability, but then she'll sing with strength and power. Her range is insane! Sadly she was diagnosed with Parkinson's disease about 10 yrs. ago. Dude, you should really checkout La Charreada sometime, jaw dropping! Another great reaction bro, peace
Sorry to have to butt in, but you need to update yourself about Linda’s health condition. The Parkinson’s diagnosis is no longer valid and was changed to PSP ( Progressive Supranuclear Palsy), which sadly is an even worse rare brain disease. I happen to know a lot about it since my Mom had it and died a couple of years after diagnosis. I only hope somehow Linda fares better.
I used to date a girl that looked exactly like that album cover, she used to destroy men's hearts for sport. Thanks for looking like her, Linda. Nice voice though.
Perhaps saddest song ever!?! She never wrote any songs, but she immersed herself in the lyric, saw an interview where she said she needed to make a connection to the song so she could make it ‘personal’ .. she always made it better than originally done, even classics by hall of famers- buddy holly, Smoky Robinson, Neil young, eagles, Elvis Costello, stones.. versatile - she belted out rock and roll to full stadiums at her peak in 70’s, but grew tired of that.. she sang in broadway in basically opera and blew the regular audience and cast away.. immense and unique talent .. and you’ve gotta check out her collaborations with Dolly Parton and Emmy Lou harris on ‘trio’ 2 albums
For some emotion from her that's at least as strong, try some of her live Spanish-language performances of traditional Mexican songs like "La Cigarra." They will knock you out.
There are two kinds of people in this world, those who love Linda Ronstadt, and those who never heard her sing.
The actual quote is "...those who never met her."
"Living in the memory/Of a love that never was..." Wow, does that pack a punch. Linda aims for the heart and the gut, and she's a great storyteller.
One of the most beautiful songs - ever.

Linda is a national treasure

Gosh...it don’t get better...one of the greatest female voices of our time. And oh so cute! 😎🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Linda is easily the best voice. Who else has the musical range to go from country rock to jazz to mariachi and also do Gilbert and Sullivan operettas?
I’m feeling it right there with you. Such an emotional, heartfelt song. Linda was incredible. She was in a league of her own. Such a great reaction. Thank you so much for feeling it and connecting to the story she’s telling in her song. ❤️

What a great reaction... I have nothing to say. You did it. Linda is some glorious angel. Unreal. ✌ Jodi/Child of the 60s
Great comment! Poetic and beautiful!

It's so sad she never realized just how BEAUTIFUL she truly was. RIH. BEAUTIFUL lady. Peace ✌️
She isn't dead
No one makes anyone emotional like Linda....😊😊😊 Great song....Been there with Linda on this song!!!😊😊
I’ve been listening to Linda for years. Got to see her in concert in the early 80’s (the ticket was $7.50) 😎👵🏼🌻✌🏼
I agree Desperado (live version) ,Down so Low, I will always love you. So many songs from Rock to Mexican, Opera in Pirates of Penzance amazing. Keep listening to her and dig deeper you won't regret it.
Check out Linda singing Desperado. It's also unbelievable. ❤

Between the violins and the harpsichord it will jerk you to tears !!!
I’m not missing anyone at all, but this song makes me cry every time!! Absolutely haunting
Dude I'm 70 now heard this song a lot over the years it still gets me too
The missing verse is definitely enough for another listen. Great Linda performance, great reaction.

As a victim of unrequited love I can attest to how much every line of the lyrics in this song are devastating and so raw.

It is ok... I have been crying along with this song for over 50 years my man
I've said before, and likely will again, I like the way you consume music/songs/lyrics.

When I was little girl and this song came on the radio, it use to make me tear up. Still does.
Linda's voice is magic, and Gary White who wrote this song is a craftsman.
She's in my top 3 female vocalists.
Thank you. One of my favorites, and I got gypped the last time.
Love this song, sad but it's good. " Time washes clean, loves wounds unseen "
Such a sad one 😓hard not to cry to this one lol

Linda never gives you filler.
If that doesn’t pierce your left ventricle than you just have never been in love.
Here is a deep cut for you to check out: 'Someone to Lay Down Beside Me' from the 'Hasten Down the Wind' album.
❤❤❤❤loved your reaction❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
there are incredibly few singers in her class. aurora, ann wilson, joni mitchell, carol king, janis joplin....
And I should have said Maria Muldaur. because although she doesn't ever get the credit she deserves, she could (and did) sing with the best of them. Like the great Mavis Staples.

not sure why I do this to myself, here I am again sobbing hehe - have you heard her duo with Aaron Neville?

@@tcanfield Oh no, sorry to hear that. So sorry for your loss man.
I like that you’re wearing a Linkin Park t-shirt but listening to Linda Ronstadt…😊
Olivia Newton John and Linda Rondstadt ate all you need
"Love is a Rose" or "Tracks of My Tears" are goodies.
When I was a young man I wanted to become rich and famous in hopes of meeting miss Ronstadt
She has worked with some greats, Neil Young, etc
How can I say you hurt me when you never let me near 😭😭😭💔💔💔💔
Correct on the TV time restrictions
I used to date a girl that looked exactly like that album cover, she used to destroy men's hearts for sport. Thanks for looking like her, Linda. Nice voice though.
Like she once said it's the Mexican in me that makes me sound that way
Perhaps saddest song ever!?! A bit more uplifting Linda? Her first hit "Different Drum" (Written by Monkee Mike).
I think this was the great Lee Skllar on bass for the recording. Not positive but it is a great line in the song.
She was only 24!
What an amazing voice. Sadly, she retired in 2013 due to her Parkinson's Disease diagnosis, which affects her ability to control her voice.
For some emotion from her that's at least as strong, try some of her live Spanish-language performances of traditional Mexican songs like "La Cigarra." They will knock you out.
Try hearing "Desperado".without emotions showing.
Have you listened to Prisoner in Disguise?
Streisand?
Sad to think she has lost her ability to sing due to ear issue ,
Magical
Not true. On the Johnny Cash show, she sang that long version. Check out that live performance.
