This has always been my favorite Linda Ronstadt song ever since I first heard it in 1970. Great voice sung with stunning emotion.

My favorite line in this my favorite Linda Ronstadt song..."living in the memory of a love that never was." Wow. It took me some years and some living to really get that line. Absolutely beautiful song, sung by an angel. Never have heard another song quite like it.
Linda is so good and she has so much talent and she bring my emotions out and make me fell her musics and singing.

You mentioned that it gives you thoughts of the desert, and Ronstadt is originally from Arizona, so maybe the desert spirit is conveyed somehow through her voice.

The effect she had on American males was one of a kind. Radio DJ's would announce a new album and then just talk about the album cover instead of mentioning the music. Then you'd hear her voice and it was all over...
