The country should think about compensating players like Walter Boyd and other 1998 World Cup players. I hope a Jamaican government will honor and provide monetary compensation for these players.
Growing up in the 90s playing football as a youngster Walter Boyd was ALL of us idol. Whether you play attacking or defense Pearl was the man we looked up to. LEGEND
Here I am listening to this riveting story of SHEER EXCELLENCE, HUMILITY AND CONSUMMATE PATRIOTISM!! As an Excelsorian, Retired Educator and Administrator of our beloved alma mater, I feel a sense of pride in these two most outstanding alumni, Dr. Gregory Haughton, Olympian of class and the Magical Walter Boyd!! The fact is , the Walter Boyd I knew at Excelsior was always so humble! He hardly spoke ,only with his gifted feet! Do not worry my Son! All is well!! To those who denied you the opportunity to better your life, rest assured Karma never forgets the address. Dr. Greg, your questions are top class, fluent and probing with a heart of brotherly love 💕!May God continue to richly bless you and your families. 🙏🏾💛💚💛🙏🏾
He is still alive, Jamaica should still honor him while he is among us. That country should publicly recognize him and also put a good money towards him because they collectively stopped him from achieving his goals in life.😢
I was so afraid of Drewsland and I decided to go there just to see Walter play against Waterhouse, and see him close up after the match. I thought he was a super human 😂
I didn't see too much of him growing up which I had only the clips we get tvj nightly sports, I was dumb young back then didn't even understand the game at that time.
Love this interview, it's very sad that JFF and the coach never gave him the transfer to earn a living in England, that was evil and disgraceful of them. I hope FIFA listen this interview and make changes, so that small minded people like those in the JFF never be allowed to perpetrate such acts of evil against any player.
Man this interview brought tears to my eyes... Walter you hold it bro, you could have achieved so much more... You need to go on more platforms and get involve with club or the national team
He's skiliest footballer I ever seen play for the Reggae Boyz. I wish Jamaica team has that fighting spirit as the team of 1998. Walter Boyd I am happy you came and shared your side of the story.
Respect for this interview Mr Haughton. Walter is my favorite Jamaican footballer. Still remember when he "mash up Azteca" and Jamaica erupted. The great Pele was also known as "Black pearl" thought that's where he got the name. Good interview.

Wow that was a good interview i agree with other persons in the comment section that he enlighten us on a lot that happen between him and the jff we were given only jff conspiracyn biased side of the story by the news outlets😢 sad in dɛed . Thanks for sharing ur side Walter Boyd Thumbs up
Walter Boyd was the most talented attacking footballers Jamaica ever produced also he is still the most celebrated and for damn good reason. The JFF, JOA and the JAAA has always have this elitist attitude when it comes to players and athletes. In Walter's case, he needed to just shut up and play good football regardless of the conditions the team has to play under. The JFF has never been professional, most interaction that is footballer centered is always met with an obstacle and the JFF perceives player advocacy as a confrontation which is takes personal- (NO PROFESSIONALISM). When advocating for better conditions for players in most cases they swiftly approach it either with a dismissive rhetoric or overzealous punishments. They single handly destroyed this great footballer... Hail Walter Blacka Pearl Boyd, greatest talent from JamRock...
Great Interview Greg - I am glad I got to see "The Pearl" play gym ball in Excelsior Gym, it was something to see, it was like watching "The Dream Team" play. Big Up Dread and Fidel !! AGE ANIMO !!!
Where is the money the Jamaica Football Federation received from the World Cup 1998? Boyd wasn't lazy but certain people set out to destroy his profession. Walter was outspoken and so the elite set to destroy him. Thanks for your time Blacka.
One Walter Boyd. Jamaica greatest ever footballer hands down. The footballing story of this player should in our history book for school. Love you baller and thank you for those amazing footballing memories. I salute you Sir 🫶🏾
Blacka Boyd should never give up on his Colorado foxes contract. The JFF could not offer Deon Burton, Fitzroy Simpson or Paul Hall a deal to give up on their club contract. Boyd situation is a complex and hidden issue, he was exploited and treated unfairly and should be compensated for most of his loss of earnings over the years. Real shame on JFF
You talk like someone who truly knows Jamaican football history!! Everyone likes to jump on Deon Burton, Paul Hall and Fitzroy Simpson. Not saying that they didn't have a great impact to our campaign, they did, but the grunt work was done by Boyd, Nandi, Whitmore and others. 100% agree with you. Walter Boyd was a game changer. He should have not left Foxes, these bandwagonnist love to talk about indiscipline.
He's really one of Jamaica's greats, very talented. He deserves a whole lot more recognition from our nation. Awesome hearing from him at this time. A great personality, too. Stay blessed.
