Have you considered bust darts? For us bustier gals, darts are often essential in cardigans which will always have a tendency to ride up at the front. They could add the length at the front to make it even. You could also then grade for different cup sizes which helps make the pattern a better fit for different bust sizes! I definite agree that you should make sure you love your pattern before you put it out in the world, we can wait ❤
I always add short rows to the V necks, even if they’re not written in the pattern, exactly because of the fit and pulling in front. I also sometimes add darts in the front, if there doesn’t seem to be enough positive ease for my bust.
I have knit many fitted, cropped cardigans for myself, including The First Cardigan, and if they're in stockinette stitch, I always add in short row bust darts to alleviate this exact problem. I don't add in short rows anywhere else.
Hi Lizzy, I have to be honest about the The Reste Cardigan test knit question: I personally wouldn’t launch a test knit before being at least 99% happy with the fit. And as I potential test knitter I probably wouldn’t apply if I knew this kind of issue wasn’t solved. Time is precious 🥰
I agree. The reason for test knitters are to knit a complete pattern and see if its easy and understandable. Not to redesign for you. And yes, time is precious.
thank you - I think you're right. but to be clear, I would have been asking testers to test out a re-designed garment, not redesign the garment for me. important difference! but I think I will re-write and re-knit before sending to test 🤍
Beautiful knits and congrats on the Reste sweater release. Some thoughts on the reste cardigan, have you fully wet blocked it? Also because of the different yarn, is the row gauge different for your double knit button band? This could be pulling it up rather than the lack of short rows in the back neck? Maybe the double knit button band needs more sts picked up to counter act? Good luck, it will work out sometimes letting it sit for a bit the answer will come to you. x
Hi Lizzie, looking at you wearing your Reste Cardigan - it looks like the front raglans are basically sat right on top of your shoulders, and the back raglans are sitting much further back, and I wonder if the cardigan shoulders are just sitting too far back and that's why the front hem is higher than the back hem? I wonder if casting on more stitches at the neck and taking out some of your raglan increases could give it more room at the neck to stop it sitting so far back. I'm not a designer, so I could be completely wrong, but that's what I noticed! I also agree with others that bust darts could help, but they are quite personal to the knitter's size so can be hard to include in a pattern
In Dutch we also say ‘rest’ (singular), resten (plural) and most often the diminutive ‘restjes’. A blanket made of left over yarn we call a ‘restjesdeken’ 😊
@@HiveKnitsNatters your welcome, by the way your reste sweater would be called ‘restjestrui’ in Dutch, probably very hard to pronounce for you 😀, but I just had to mention it too. Love your podcast.
Hello lovely! The cardi looks lush but I see your point- if you’re not in love it, I would deffo rewrite the pattern and give it to a sample knitter to make!☺️ and in the meantime you can work that wonderful Reste tee that you might be itching to cast on? I got too excited thinking how cool a coord for a Reste simple tee and cardi would be.😉 Can’t wait to see everyone fall in love with your Reste sweater this weekend !🎉🎉🎉
I think test knitters are there to ensure your pattern is easy to follow, a good knitting experience, etc, not to correct mistakes - in other words pretty much customer ready and test knit is the final check . (Might be a good idea to listen to Andrea Mowry on the subject). You will feel better about the whole thing if you fix what is wrong and know your fix works. Right now you aren’t even sure where you want the short rows to go.
To lengthen the front you could maybe pick up more stitches on the part with the stripes and then stretch the body fabric a bit when blocking. By the way, in Dutch reste also men’s leftovers.
Thank you! I love hearing about all the other languages that use Reste - English is clearly in the minority! the issue with picking up stitches is that the ratio is already 1:1.....
@@HiveKnitsNatters I know there is a 1:1 ratio for picking up stitches, but thought you could smuggle in some extra stitches here and there, maybe 10 in total on each side. Try it on a small swatch and see how it works out
the side dart would give you more rows at the centre front, hence you would be able to pick up more stitches for the band. At present the front of your cardigan is close fitting and flat so it has no way to go over your bust except to pull up at the front..
Yeah, I'd wait til I was happier with the whole design, saying that as a non-designer who's only ever test knit a sock mind you! 😉 It's not a race. The meaning of Reste should be easy to remember as it's the "reste" the skein, ie the scraps/leftovers? That's how it will stick in my mind anyway😂 Personally, I'm not a PK fan, on point of principle...their refusal to design & grade to be fully size inclusive. For the sake of another 2-3 inches.
personally I think if I was to take on a test knit for a pattern that wasn't 100% complete that it would need to have an expanded timeline. I think you'll feel better about it if you reknit the yoke.
I'd test the cardigan as it is. Personally, it's totally okay for me when sweaters pull up a little bit on the front. I'd even say I like it better that way. My boobs are small (lol) so they're not gonna make the fabric pull even more. I'm actually having the opposite issue with a couple of sweaters I've knit. Maybe the patterns didn't have enough short rows (I don't remember) but the back is a bit too short to my liking (VS the front).

In Romanian it's REST (singular)/ RESTURI (plural)! Love it!

I suggest adding a couple of rows of bust darts rather than adding short rows to the back. Tammi, Wool and Wine podcast. Cheers! 🧶🍷
I hadn't thought about that, thanks!
I think maybe you need a small side bust dart which will give you extra front length and also more stitches in the front band.

the black and white or the bridal?
all yarns are in the video description :)
Restos in Spanish also means leftovers or remains.
