Jimmy, as a retired Marine and Vietnam veteran who lost 15 of his classmates from Odessa Permian and over twice that total in Ector County, I want you to know how special this song and you are to me. Semper Fidelis. Gene Hays
Welcome home, sir! Thank you. I was in the army, (field artillery), from June 83 to Dec 91. I was very fortunate to have never tasted combat. (I missed the Gulf War due to the fact that the infantry brigade we supported did not go.)
Beautiful song. One of the best singers I’ve ever heard. I was one of the lucky mothers whose son got to come home. Two tours in Afghanistan and Bosnia. Thank you so much for sharing.
You are so right, my husband was one of them. I was 17 & expecting a son who looks like his Dad. I miss even after 58 yrs. Lost him on 66June 1. It's coming up. I love this song
Each and every name on The Wall (Vietnam Veterans Memorial Wall) was a person: A son, daughter, father, brother, wife, sister, husband ... and each one of these precious children, for so many of them were still so young, each one of them is More Than A Name On The Wall. God bless them and thanks so much to Jimmy Fortune for this wonderful rendition!
@Gene Hays...I graduated from Odessa Permian in 1968. I had numerous classmates serve in Vietnam and a few of those didn't come home. Thank you for your service to our country, for doing what no man should have been asked to do. God bless you. My grandson is a senior in HS and when he graduates next May he is signed up and ready to go serve our country as a United States Marine.
For 30+ years now, every time I listen to this song - and it has been many - each feels more powerful and emotional than the last. Thank you, Jimmy Fortune, for this wonderful song!
Thank you Jimmy for this song. Hope they play it when I pass on. Makes me think hiw much my mother must have missed me when for many times I wasn't with my mother on Christmas Day.....
I walked the Wall during a short visit to DC from the UK on 9/11 2003. It wasn't my war but it is my generation - it was a very emotional and humbling experience.
I remember this song being about Vietnam. My dad was a Vietnam vet as well and visited the wall with him and sound fellow Soldiers when I was a kid. Anyway, whew... haven’t heard this song in years. 😪😢 powerful indeed.
Such a powerful song about a Mother's love for her Son who gave his life being in the service so that we can go to sleep at night knowing we are safe thanks to the guys like her Son.
I've seen that Wall. When the smaller replica was traveling through our town I took my boys to see it. I wasn't prepared for how it would affect me. It was a very sobering experience; for I have a cousin from Arkansas, an 18 yr old Marine whose name is on that Wall. God bless you Benjamin Parker.
Love this song it's so beautiful and heart touching. I do pray for the families of those who gave their lives for America. I thank God for our veterans and their families.
This song has made me drop tires and have remembered my late sister, died straggling fighting for her life ,,,I hoped to see her but she didn't come back home ....I just can't wait for the Lord's soon coming so that we get to see the loved ones..
We can not stand down. Keep two feet on the ground and your heels up. We will take this push and come back stronger. Praise Jesus. Don't let them lie to you and accept it
When Jimmy joined the Statlers he really took off... Lew Dewitt was a great tinner singer with an unmistakable sound...i didnt think anyone could fill his shoes. But JF. Done it....
THANK YOU LORD JESUS FOR THE GIFT OF REVELATION & FOR THE GIFT OF DISCERNMENT TO KNOW GOOD FROM BAD & FOR YOUR MERCY & GRACE & FORGIVENESS UPON US WHEN WE REPENT UNTO YOU LORD!
LORD JESUS, I PRAY THAT ALL THOSE THAT LOVE YOU BE SLOW TO SPEAK, & PRAY ABOUT THINGS THAT WE HEAR SOMEONE SAY, SO THAT WE KNOW TO BE AWARE WHETHER GOOD OR BAD AMEN!

That's a beautiful song, but war is a terrible waste. No one dies in vain, yet it's unfair to send young men to die to prove how tough old rich men are.
God bless our veterans we owe them all our respect and honor they deserve nothing less than our gratitude to them now and forever thank you to the people who served and are serving now just know that my prayers and thoughts and wishes are with you all god bless you all
I'm SOOOOOOO Glad I don't know anyone who ended up "A Name On A Wall". To the loved one's (especially MOTHERS) haveing their "Name On A Wall" has to be the HARDEST thing they have/will experience in a lifetime. I want to cry.

My son died in a car accident recently. I know it's a different reason for death than the military. It still feels the same. This song hit right at home in the heart. ❤
