*LYRICS - More Than a Name on a Wall* ------------ I saw her from a distance As she walked up to the wall In her hand she held some flowers As her tears began to fall She took out pen an' paper As to trace her memory She looked up to heaven An' the words she said were these She said, Lord my boy was special An' he meant so much to me You know I'd love to see him Just one more time you see All I have are my mem'ries An' the moments to recall So Lord would you tell him He's more than a name on a wall She said, he really missed his family An' bein' home on Christmas Day But he died for God an' country In a place so far away I remember just a little boy Playin' war since he was three But Lord this time I know He's not comin' home to me She said, Lord my boy was special An' he meant so much to me You know I'd love to see him But I know it just can't be So I thank you for my mem'ries An' the moments to recall So Lord would you tell him He's more than a name on a wall Oh Lord would you tell him He's more than a name on a wall Album: Homesick for a Country
My heart is breaking for the mother of this young soldier! So sad. Then I read in Scripture this wonderful hope-stirring verse, "By faith, women received their dead back to life again."
Oh goodness thank you,,, my wife and are bothe veterans, she became one of 22 veterans a day taking their lives every day in this country. Every one of you veterans are way more than just a name and you matter more to me and my family than you will ever know
As a Vietnamese, THANK YOU American people for all of your sacrifices, to help protect our short-lived freedom. Your fallen heroes, along with ours, will forever live in our hearts. Thank you The Petersens for such a great performance. God bless you all, and God bless America.
I have heard a few groups sing this song, but I believe that the PETERSON’s do the best job beautiful singing most lovely music you are number one in my books❤
What a BEAUTIFUL version of this heartfelt of Name on the Wall. My youngest brother Pfc Royce E. Roe, USMC has his inscribed on the Wall. Royce was KIA, Quang Tri, Vietnam, February 1969. God Bless the USA and God Bless all who lost loved ones through all wars.
It is so wonderful to see young people who understand the meaning and passion in this song! Beautifully played, beautifully sung, and beautifully meant!
One of my favorite songs by the Statler Brothers, but these kids brought tears to my eyes. Their passionate singing and harmonies really reach down and touches my heart.
As an old Vietnam Vet who has traced comrades names from the Wall, I so appreciate this song! And the most beautiful voices who could ever sing this song!! God bless your family!
Vietnam. Class of 69. One of the hardest things I've ever done was walk the length of that wall. I was there in 68 and 69. The way it is set up, the names from 68 are on one end ... and those from 69 are at the far end. Without the strength of my son to lean on, I never would have even gone, let alone walk the entire length. God Bless those who didn't come home ... and to all those who made it back ... WELCOME HOME.
@@ralphkern380 Ralph, you are one of the real hero's. The wall is very emotional to many, and I though the Peterson's captured the emotions the wall brings out.

A great song that makes a difference to me. I am 74 and will never know just what friends it is that did not make it back from Nam. I wear a pow, missing in action band for a pledge brother who died there.
Beautiful.... I just today read a story about a posthumously awarded Medal of Honor recipient who was so grateful for the opportunity that America gave to him and for how well the country treated his mother that he wanted to show his appreciation, his sister said, by serving in the U.S. Marines right after graduating high school. He was a Mexican-born American hero, died fighting on a hill in Vietnam, while saving his fellow soldiers by his valiant charge on the enemy against seemingly impossible odds. His fellow soldiers loved him so much for his sacrifice that they were determined to somehow retrieve his body, which they did, with three of them dying in the effort. This song made me think of his mother, as the mother in the song... left behind, perhaps visiting the wall in D.C.
I have a son of military age, whom I love very much. If he were killed in action, the only thing that could make that pain worse would be knowing that anyone died to retrieve his body. Now I'd be thinking of those other families and be feeling deep guilt on top of my sorrow. And how would my son feel? He gave his life to save those of his comrades, and now some of those lives are thrown away to do what? Retrieve a dead body. What a totally tragic and pointless waste of lives.
@@danmoyer4650 Agreed, but there is more too it than that. Those men made their choice, and they chose to risk their own lives to honor their brothers life. I doubt they considered what their parents would think about the situation, and I doubt they could live in peace letting their brother lie there while they made it to safety. Imagine the character of that man who was killed, that others gave their lives to recover him. Most folks will never know that kind of attachment.
I know this a cliche but U.S. MARINES if any way possible will NOT leave anyone behind. I have a best friend ( brother in law) on that wall. My wife still crys when she hears this song, so I play it low.
Thank you Mr. Fortune for having the inspiration for writing something so meaningful to all of us that are veterans and of that time in our lives. Thank you Petersons for presenting the song so respectfully and so elegantly. Former USMC 50+ years ago. They are all more than a name on a wall and I have seen It once, Never again.
As a veteran of the US Army during the Vietnam War Era, this song has special meaning for me. I have met Jimmy Fortune and have heard him sing this song. Y'all NAILED it! I love your music! Keep it up!
This song made me cry. I can't stop listening to this song. I love Ellen's voice and Matt and Katie were awesome. And we can't forget about awesome Emmett, Karen, and Julianne! This makes me think about my great grandfather in World War I. His name is on the wall.
Many people don't appreciate the greatness and the gravity of this old Statler song. Thank you Peterson family for a stirring rendition. May God bless you all!
I have listened to this song before. Then I was not a parent. Now with two sons, I cannot imagine having to give one up. I now feel the true cost of liberty.
Beautiful . My dad passed away in August of 2017 . He was USAF for 28 years including tours in Vietnam and Thailand . I knew more than a few of the names on that wall . Y'all are great .
Peace and quiet and very beautiful music that caresses my ears is the best medicine in these difficult times. Thanks to The Petersens and many greetings from Germany.
I had never heard this song until today. It is heart wrenching, I missed the draft by a few short weeks. Petersens: Your talents were perfectly in-tune for this song. You nailed it. Very professionally delivered and very obviously respectful of the subject matter. I have followed you for several years now and I have seen all of you mature and get better at your chosen craft. I wish you continued success and a safe and happy daily life. I hope to get to Branson someday to hear you in person.
As a worn out old soldier I gotta tell you that you made me cry harder than I had in years, brought back so many memories of my friends lost, you folks are awesome please keep up your beautiful music videos!!

*LYRICS - More Than a Name on a Wall*
------------
I saw her from a distance
As she walked up to the wall
In her hand she held some flowers
As her tears began to fall
She took out pen an' paper
As to trace her memory
She looked up to heaven
An' the words she said were these
She said, Lord my boy was special
An' he meant so much to me
You know I'd love to see him
Just one more time you see
All I have are my mem'ries
An' the moments to recall
So Lord would you tell him
He's more than a name on a wall
She said, he really missed his family
An' bein' home on Christmas Day
But he died for God an' country
In a place so far away
I remember just a little boy
Playin' war since he was three
But Lord this time I know
He's not comin' home to me
She said, Lord my boy was special
An' he meant so much to me
You know I'd love to see him
But I know it just can't be
So I thank you for my mem'ries
An' the moments to recall
So Lord would you tell him
He's more than a name on a wall
Oh Lord would you tell him
He's more than a name on a wall

I hope the Statler brothers hear this beautiful cover of one of their greatest hits
I don't know if I have heard it done any better, so sad and poignant. May all those suffering loss find peace in your song.
Some songs are so perfect they are impossible not to bring a tear to your eyes everytime.
It is always a moment of great joy when the Petersens make premieres

As a veteran of the US Army during the Vietnam War Era, this song has special meaning for me. I have met Jimmy Fortune and have heard him sing this song. Y'all NAILED it! I love your music! Keep it up!
This song made me cry. I can't stop listening to this song. I love Ellen's voice and Matt and Katie were awesome. And we can't forget about awesome Emmett, Karen, and Julianne! This makes me think about my great grandfather in World War I. His name is on the wall.
Beautiful sounds and sad strory made me cry even early in the morning. Thank you, Petersens!
Beyond beautiful. From a Vet and for all the others out there reading this I would like to say thank you for a beautiful rendition of this song.
As a USMC vet I appreciate the respect you gave to this song. Your harmonies are always spot on. Very well done. Thank you.

This is more than just a cover on UA-cam... your beautiful performance made me cry.
Very happy to have heard the bass distinctly on this cut. Thank you. It's the foundation and has been very difficult to hear other times.
My wife and I got to hear you all sing this 3/24/2021 on our honeymoon trip to Branson
@Jacob Beckwith - Congratulations on your wedding and honeymoon! Best wishes that you will have many years of marriage ahead!! God bless!

Thank you..
As a former french Navy member, I Say ''thx you for this song''. 👍👍
Greetings from Greece, we are celebrate our independence day. First time listen this song. Perfect! 🇬🇷
By far the best version of this song. The Petersens hit the spot one more time.
