1970 Porsche 911: Understanding the Love Affair

  • I didn't completely understand the unadulterated love plied upon the Porsche 911. I know that it's a supposed to be a pure driving machine. I know that it's a precise instrument for a skilled enthusiast. I know that I still didn't fully "get it".
    Now it's time for me to understand, and I'm not getting my Porsche 911 education by way of the latest and greatest that Stuttgart has to offer. Instead, we're taking the harder route with a 1970 Porsche 911.
    This harder route takes us to the always wonderful Angeles Crest Highway, and to a place where Porsche discovery can happen.
    It turns out the harder route is actually the quickest way to make me understand why everyone loves the Porsche 911.

      My mother told me a few months ago my father dreamed that if he won the lottery he'd buy me a 911 and surprise me... he passed 5 years ago, a month ago I bought myself a 911. It's a keeper!

    Few cars compare successfully to a good old 911. This car's just one of a kind. Modern automotive industry don't create such masterpieces anymore.

    Y'know, as much as I love fresh paint and pristine bodywork, there is something awesome about a car that is just driven hard, with love, and shows it.

    Great vid , I love the 911 . There is just something about the car that sometimes words
    alone can't convey what a great experience it is to own and drive one. I vividly remember my last drive . I was grinning from ear to ear as I though'' man this is a damn fine machine '' Joy mixed with sorrow as I handed the keys over to the new owner. Nowadays with all the ''speculators out there bidding insane prices on what would have been hopeless basketcases'', I don't have the cash to compete.

    Get it right Mr! The owner said it was a 1985 engine not 1987, so that box would be a 915, hence the 'sloppy' feel. A factory short shift kit, still available, would sort that out. I can understand how you would get a little tongue tied, cos getting in an aircooled 911 is too awesome for words. Nice vid too

    All Porsches are awesome in my opinion, however that was not the best example of what a Porsche is, at least for someone who is not a Porsche fan, 930s or old Porsches in general are a bit too hardcore for a non Porsche lover, yet he liked it.
    If you don´t understand Porsches, drive a 996 gt3, or a 997 gt3, or even better, make a 991 gt3 sing to 9,000rpm. If you still not get it, get a Corolla, it´s a great car too ;).

      Anyway, keep up the great work Jeff.

    I believe a 1970 911 would have been a long-hood. Did the owner convert it into a short-hood 911?

    There's a 70s 911 that is under a bunch of junk in a garage in my neighborhood. If I was handy with a wrench, I'd ask the person to name their price.

      Magnus walker said 64... let me google it....As the successor to the Porsche 356, the 911 won the hearts of sports car enthusiasts from the outset. The prototype was first unveiled at the Frankfurt IAA Motor Show in 1963 as the 901, and renamed the 911 for its market launch in 1964. :D

    • @tembercraig1002
      @tembercraig1002 6 років тому

      After complaints from Peugeot, Porsche chose to rename the model a 901 changed to a 911 over legal issues. If you want a car like this that wont cost a mint Look at a 1966 to 69 912 its a dream 4 cylinder with a overhaul big bore kit. cars weight wont trow you around the coroners and can push about 170hp at the wheels and only weigh about 1900lbs would keep up with any early gen 911. if your looking for a 901 good luck set you back 500k to million bucks if you can find one. 912s if you find one buy it can complete a bad ass driver for under 25k with upgraded master cylinder and disc brakes from newer gen 911s lots of parts are interchangeable with slight mods. Shes a mean black sheep. A proud 912 owner and 931 owner. Water-cool is just as fun the 944 and 931 924 cars have gear box under the rear of car giving a near 51-49 weight distribution giving the car impeccable handling. Porsche there's nothing like it.

    Why carry on and on about how you didn't get the appeal? Isn't that a given, since you'd never driven one before? Then you said something about rallying against the 911 prior to your maiden voyage. Why have any opinion on the car's appeal before driving it?

    • @TheHooniverse
      @TheHooniverse  9 років тому +2

      Alec D. because you can form an opinion on a car before you drive it, that has nothing to do with the driving aspect. Then that opinion can change once you've driven the car... which is what happened here. JG

    • @Buttnut105
      @Buttnut105 9 років тому

      The Hooniverse I was just curious. I figured the appeal of the car had at least something to do with the driving aspect. Having an opinion on that before driving it didn't make any sense to me.
