The Hammond B3 organ was in just about every band back in the day. Live in a small club that thing would just carry you away. It had a spinning fan type of thing that gave it that unique sound. I love it.

Those days were a blast ! Always looked forward to going to the record store. Always had limited funds as a kid so i always tried to make a good selection. I had so many of what are now considered classic rock albums. Unfortunately they were all lost in a house fire in 73. Never collected again after that.

Deep Purple was my first concert. I was in high school and the year was 1984, the Perfect Strangers tour. John Lord on the organ was amazing. He was rocking that organ back and forth while playing the Hell out of it. He rocked it so far I was actually holding my breath thinking it would crash down on the floor, but nope...he had total control of it. Completely amazing. You need to react to Space Truckin if you haven't already.

God bless Fats Waller and Art Tatum for having the bright idea to drag the Hammond organ out of the church and into the jazz club. We owe all future organ greatness to them. If it weren't for them, we might still only be hearing this instrument behind "A Mighty Fortress Is Our God" and "Rock Of Ages," or at the baseball game.

The “Na, nana na, nana na, nana naa” tune is the same as the “aaaa” tune in the middle of the Beatles “A Day in the Life” (the end of Paul McCartney’s part, “someone spoke and I went into a dream...aaaaa”. Deep Purple even slowed it down in the final few seconds of the song like the way the Beatles sing it.

I feel fortunate to have seen them in the 70's. I still have machine head vinyl. Still play it. I listened to the CD in the car yesterday. I wore the best of deep purple out.

I grew up with another version of Hush, by a local Melbourne band called Somebody's Image, who released a version of Hush in 1967, just before the Deep Purple version. The lead singer of Somebody's Image was Russell Morris.
