  • It’s time we talked about Rum Brands. There are hundreds of rum brands out there with new ones popping up all the time. Does that mean there are that many distilleries out there? One for each brand? In the early days of my rum journey, I thought that was the case. A brand is owned by a distillery and the rum made by the distillery for that brand is then sold to consumers. Now the reality is that’s there’s a lot more going on with rum brands than just that.
    Generally speaking the various rum brands out there fall into one of four different categories. And brands that are owned by a distillery are just one of them. So I’m going to break them all down for you. Because as a rum consumer, I think its one of the biggest level ups you can make to get a good handle on who the players are in the rum world and how they actually work. And how they work, will affect the rum in the bottle, its price, its availability, how its marketed to you and the amount of information they give you about that rum.
    We'll cover Original Producers, Non-distilling Producers, Private Labels and Independent Bottlers.

    Very informative, thank you. Are you familiar with Hamilton Rum? Do you have any info/opinion on them?

    • @therumrevival
      @therumrevival  10 місяців тому

      Yes, I have a few Hamiltons rums though primarily the ones that are more geared towards cocktail making. I use the Demerara 86 and 151 in a lot of drinks. Great price point on them. I have yet to try any of the single cask releases from Hamilton. They seem to be well priced.

    • @therumrevival
      @therumrevival  Рік тому +1

      Modern Caribbean Rum by Matt Pietrek for sure. An amazing resource. Also, And a Bottle of Rum for some history. The Oxford Companion to Spirits and Cocktails has been pretty handy too

    Does anyone know what's going on with Denizen 8? It's very hard to find. I've got some of the new labels and I've compares it to the old label and I can't really detect a difference so I don't think their supplier has changed.

    • @therumrevival
      @therumrevival  6 місяців тому

      Maybe they're purposely going through all of their old inventory of the old labels before the new labeled bottles make it out to markets. Not sure, but I will say in California I've been seeing the new bottle in a couple of different places

      @@therumrevival there's literally just 1 liquor store in North Jersey that has D8. It didn't used to be this hard to get.
