love stiggins fancy plantation, tried mount gay's black barrell in barbados airport and my dad brought a bottle back think its about £45 excellent drop!
Thanks for bringing on 2 of my favorite Barbados gold rums. Plantation XO and especially R.L. Seale's.(great rum and I absolutely love the funky shape of the bottle). Slightly off topic here but recently I tried a gold rum that isn't from the islands but Panama (which I'm not sure is considered part of the Carribean but still close to Carribean Islands). I'm talking about Ron Abuelo. I was truly blown away by how good it is especially considering I got it for less than $20. Just goes to show you don't always need to spend big bucks to get a good rum.
Enjoying the FS Doorly's 12 year has fantastic nose and yes i got it for under £50 which when on offer is great value. Im looking for a 3/5 yr slightly sweeter lighter fruiter barbados rum for sipping, any suggestions?
Hi Steve, great video! Can you maybe do a video about house blending rums? I'm trying to make my own house blend for a rum old fashioned and I could use some advice!!
Hi Steve, have you tested or tried Pyrat rum yet?! It's one my dad and I have had a few times, found it varies each bottle a little. We would love to get your opinion on it
Today I bought a mount gay black barrel. Its interesting🤔. I am enjoying it. But...I think its better plantations original dark. Maybe I shouldnt compare them but are the only ones I know so far. Salud🍻 from Mexico🇲🇽
Ha, yeah don’t go comparing MGBB to Plantation Dark. That’s like comparing a Porsche and a Fiat. MGBB would be your Plantation Barbados 5yo at the very least, but more probably Plantation XO.
No fan of "the string" but agree with you Steve the boat has sailed on a GI. Favourite Barbados Rum either the Mount Gay Madeira Cask from last year long since sold out. Or thr St Nicks, lovely juicy buy overpriced
The Madeira ain’t sold out mate. Mainly because not many are dumb enough to pay £150 a bottle for it. That’s stupid money. But if you’re happy to pay that, fill your boots.
To be fair, a lot of that 75% is Malibu, one of the biggest brands in the world, but not something we instinctively think of as Rum. I would wager that the Plantation part of it is probably in the same range as Mount Gay. If Plantation has an edge marketing wise it's that it is a Barbadian style Rum brand that is able to co-exist in the Francophone Rhum Agricole world through it's association with Cognac.
Im Bahamian 🇧🇸. But Guys Barbados has the two best rums I've ever tasted in my life. Malibu and Plantation Rum O.M.G. Bahamas here we're flooding with jamaican and DR: rums. The hotel sector and bars in the Bahamas should replace jamaican and Dominican republic rum with Barbados rum ASAP. The Barbados rums are head and shoulders above these two guys.🌹
plantation was the only distillery to reject gi laws preventing the other 3 distilleys which would have ment that to be classed as a Barbados rum it would have be age and distilled in Barbados so the Barbados government won't move forward with the proposal untill all four distillerys agree u could argue that its Kept Barbados from taking a strong step forward in establishing an identity in the category
Ha, and many people believe this because it’s who talk loudest and Plantation have chosen not to talk about it and just chose to focus on doing what they do best. Make Rum and actually help the Island of Barbados prosper by being one of the biggest contributors to the economy with Jobs, facilities and even stuff like Transport & Roads. But, hey don’t take my word for it. I know many Team Foursquare live off every word Richard Seale says, so instead of me convincing you otherwise, when you have a few mins, go down the rabbit hole and actually see the Barbados Prime Minister and governments views. You might be shocked to find what you learn. You’re looking for the “Export Barbados” reports 😉😇
Crazy innit. As I say. Have seen higher reports. But I’m not 100% where Mount Gay fits in on this. Recent stuff I’ve seen actually shows Mount Gay dwarfs Foursquare. But I’m not sure how that actually reflects Sales Volumes. Either way you look…WIRD produces a hell of a lot and the vast majority on the island.
You didn’t have the best Jamaican rum available. Plantation xaymaca. Just kidding. I know you don’t care much for it. But I am surprised you don’t have it on screen there. 3 best for me? Don’t have a lot available but Appleton 8(or 12 or signature) Plantation xaymaca That’s it. I don’t really care for Wray and nephew. Too intense for my tastes. But Appleton 8amd xaymaca are my two favorite aged rums
Ha, you really confused me then. You’ve commented about Jamaican Rum on the Barbados video 😂 So I was gonna say, well of course I didn’t have Xaymaca out! 😂 But I get ya. I do like Xaymaca, perhaps not neat, but it’s great in Cocktails. But the reason it wasn’t out in that Video, is because it’s not a Jamaican Distillery. I was merely showing Jamaican Distillery Brands. There are of course loads of Jamaican Rums, but I just wanted to make the distinction between actual Distillery’s and Brands.
@@StevetheBarmanUK sorry about that. I think UA-cam has changed. I made that comment while watching the what is Jamaican rum video. But the video ended, and autoplayed into the Barbados video. And posted there? Weird. Ok didn’t realize it specifically was for Jamaica brands. It’s all good. And a very informative video

I picked up a bottle of Plantation 5 year to make an El Presidente, and it was delicious.
Just back from the Caribbean, did the Mount Gay tour and was impressed. Bought the Black Barrel Cask Strength for making cocktails 😁
Thanks for the video Steve. Your excitement really is contagious :)
Awwww, you can stay!
Another interesting video. Loving this Saturday morning series.
Four square Indelible is my favorite so far. I've gotten a lot of the four square releases, the Detente is also really good!
Might be a snob but my favorite Is FQ EC Redoubtable, I love me an OFTD though
I have really liked every rum that I've tried from Mount Gay except Eclipse.
Love this format. Looking forward to Martinique rum ;)
Coming soon! We got a Cane Juice few weeks coming up.
That is a great video, cheers!

try real McCoy
been to Panama it is Caribbean
Well. Panama borders the Caribbean Sea, but don’t call them Caribbean. They may be a tad upset! 😂. They’re most def Central America.

First LOL! Love barbados rum:)

No, not yet. Honestly never ever tried Pyrat I don't think.
My go to Barbados rum is easily Plantation 5 year

Picked up a 1.75 ltr of old brigand rum in duty free Barbados airport makes a excellent rum and coke what bargain under 25 pound
How about "the oldest distillery still in business"? 🤓🥂

Memorize this phrase: “continuously operating distillery” 😉
Alright clever clogs! 👏👏😂

Never tried mount gay rum
very good rum especially black barrel and xo
Mount Gay Black Barrel is my favourite reasonably priced rum. Such great value. My favourite over £50 bottle would have to be Ron Zacapa 23
love it
