Hi, it's me again. The reason why Kato sells the 12V DC power adaptor separately is because the main supply in some countries like Japan for example is 100 VAC , USA is 120 VAC, Europe and Africa 220 VAC etc. This caused a shipping problem for Kato. I don't know (as yet) whether Kato supplies a 12 VDC 100 - 240 AC adaptor. You can use any make 12 VDC adaptor with at least 2.2 Amp.output. 5 Amp. is even better to avoid the adaptor getting too warm.
Yep a good point. Yet why design the box to fit both? You would think like for large markets for the US they would ship both together but I see why they didn't.
With me living in the uk I just want a simple layout with 4 things in it that kato makes simply The M1 set with the uk converter … that solves the main loop The V5 set for the inside loop Then the double track single crossover . To link the two tracks together . Then the V3 set to have a yard section to do shunting or storing trains and the like And that’s all well and good until the realisation of I need to buy the second controller for the inside loop . And that’s going to be a smallish issue . As I live in the uk and I need to get that kato plug to my uk wall socket . It’s all well and good for the M1 set cuz it comes with the converter already tho I wouldn’t quite get how to link the V5 to the uk plugs . Tho I will figure it out as I go I suppose .
Technically, you don't need a second controller for the inside loop, just power that can be split from your outer loop. Kato makes a three way power splitter, and it's super cheap. Use that and you'll be able to split the power from the same controller on both loops.
I think I snagged these off of Amazon, but again be careful, you may need to also buy the power cable separately. Make sure it specifically says included or not so you know.
Regarding the reason the power supply transformer is removed from the box where it obviously was originally intended to fit (as you pointed out): they sell the parts individually because nowadays companies/corporations spend huge amount of time sitting in their offices scheming of ways to take more money out of consumers' pockets and put it into their own...simple explanation: greed. They made a simple alteration of the printing scheme for the outside of the box to indicate that the transformer "...is sold separately...", and just like that they're able to make more money by forcing consumer to purchase something which should've been kept in the kit. People these days seem to accept this as 'just the way it is'...but how many of you try do anything about it? If more and more people would make even a small effort to send feedback to these companies it might make a difference...doesn't take any more effort to write a letter to one of these companies as it does to talk about it on youtube, and discussing it on youtube is complete waste of time, as I'm pretty sure no-one from any of these companies will ever see your comment/opinion. Sorry, rant over.
The ironic thing is they'd actually make more money if both were included, they'll pay less in packaging and storage costs and force everyone who wants a new controller to buy a new power pack also.
The actual reason they sell them separately is because Kato sells trains in different parts of the world which need different voltages and plug types. If they were to include it in the box they would have to have multiple versions of the box which would take up more room in their warehouse than just having them separate and having the consumer hose which they need for their part of the world.
This is my exact sentiment.People just seem to think they can't make a difference. And the stupid phrase it is what it is grinds my gears.Just say I give up instead.

@ModelTrainsWow I am certain that in Japan they sell both together, hence the one box design.
Thanks for the comparison. Convincing.
Thats a really nice desk layout. If your gaming or something then you can see trains running too thats really cool.
Yep yep 😅

@@ModelTrainsWow oh …
Well that may work .
I may try it . But first the M1
Kato 22-018-1 is the one with the adapter
Try led interior Kato lights 😊
I was wondering if you could try this with the new power supply with the old controller?
Ah, I already sold my old one. I think it was different voltages though, but may want to double check.
I have a car jump start power bank with a 12V output. Can I use it to power up the Kato Power Pack Standard SX unit?
I suppose that could work but as jump start power banks are designed for short bursts of energy rather than continuous power supply.
@@ModelTrainsWow Thanks for your reply.
I am a newbie, Please tell me to run two trains on the same track one will need two controllers?
Nope, but chances are they'll run into each other eventually since they probably will go at different speeds.
where do you get ypour power packs Im new?
I think I snagged these off of Amazon, but again be careful, you may need to also buy the power cable separately. Make sure it specifically says included or not so you know.
Will it run slow speed with just one engine?
Yep. But I guess it depends on the engine. Some can go super slow, others can be a bit jerky. The newer stuff tends to work best.
@@ModelTrainsWow Bandai trains run too fast sometimes

@@mybobizeSo what...its pennies to them.
kato new power pack you loose speed., kato tgv's slow down. best is the original
lol, I haven't noticed.
