It's amazing how famous Carnotaurus is, but it's a bit strange that it's popularity only happen because of ONLY ONE really well preserved specimen. That's right only one Carnotaurus skeleton have ever been found
At least it’s a single good specimen for Carnotaurus. I was surprised to learn just how little material we have from Elasmosaurus, considering it’s such an iconic plesiosaur.
Fun fact: In Dinosaur King, when Ace was chasing Suchomimus, we see him actually struggle to turn because Carnotaurus had a stiff tail which made sharp turns difficult
Tbf that show was absolutely goated. When I was like six I had nightmares about the utahraptor in that show chasing me through a kitchen (I saw Jurassic park for the first time around then)
It also showed Terry (The T-Rex) being able to swim before Prehistoric Planet presented it. Albeit Terry was swimming more like a crocodile underwater rather than the dog/elephant paddle seen with the Prehistoric Planet Rex
The lego one has to be one of the most accurate and amazing looking interpretations of all time, the amount of artistic skill you need to have to mock up such an amazing craft. The craftsmanship can not be matched. The design will infatuate you in complexity and design. The tiny arms and the large, amazing, detailed horns will mesmerize you. The to scale size and the amazing osteoderms will catch your eye as it glistens in the sunlight. What an amazing peice of art that magnificent thing is.
Carnotaurus hasn’t had the longest history in media, but it’s been awesome to see such a unique dinosaur getting the spotlight lately. Prehistoric Planet’s depiction is probably my favorite; the little arm waggle dance it does gets me every time. The JW carno also is pretty cool.
Fun fact: the first description ever made of carnotaurus was made during an expedition in brazil where a local tribe described a very fast creature a big lizard measuring 9 mts long, very short and useless front legs, scaly skin like a crocodile, a short face, and two horns in the head, this creature was knows by the ttubes as "the stoa" and this description was made decades before the first fossil of carnotaurus was found.

1:15 my friend used to make mini Disney Carnos and he would sell them outside after school, but he would just cut of the Carno’s head and glue it to a Tyrannosaur and then just paint them red
Fun Fact-The Carnotaurus in Disney's Dinosaur was orignally going to be a Tyrannosaurus. However somewhere along the line they changed the big bad dino to a Carno. Which may explain why the Carnotaurus is so egregiously oversized. But also amusingly down in Florida at the Dinosaur ride they have a fake skeleton of this oversized Carno on display and they classify it as a fictional subspecies of Carno called Robustus Floridaensis. This Carno always lingered in my mind cause of the size snd maroon red coloring. If you ever do another Carno episode, there is probably a big amount of appearances not yet shown, one Carno worth mentioning is the Carno from Age of Dinosaur. A B movie with a....very lanky Carno.
funfact, the JW Dominion Carnotaurus actually first appears in Fallen Kingdom! You can see it in the "press the button" scene towards the end as well as Eli Mill's death scene.
@@KingOfTheLavaZone he's named after the toy? If you dont know there's a carnotaurus Jurassic Park toy thats black and red and also goes by the codename:Demon or so i remember what was on the box.
One minor correction, the 1st depiction of the Carnotaurus in any capacity from the Jurassic Park franchise wasn’t from The Lost World novel, it was the Demon Carnotaurus from the Series 2 wave of toys from Kenner. Which is what the Male Demon from Fallen Kingdom & Dominion is inspired by.
Carnotaurus may not always get the most prominent representation in media, but that's part of why it's my favourite. Enough awesome depictions to leave an impact, but still few enough for it to be considered underrated compared to other therapods. The horns, the teeth, the speed, hell even the name; Everything about this dino just screams "cool".
In 2002 there was a "Dino Crisis" spin-off game released called "Dino Stalker" where you have to fight a pair of T. rex sized Carnotaurus three times throughout the game. There's a blue and orange one you have to fight off and they do a lot of charging attacks and they're able to jump higher than street lights. I'm pretty sure this was my first introduction to Carnotaurus if it wasn't Disney's Dinosaur.
There’s one missing carnotaurus representation that you missed, which I wouldn’t blame because it’s a very rare gem, but it’s the two carnotaurus featured in Dino stalker (Dino crisis arcade game of the 2000’s) and both have very different designs being one red and the other being blue with wide faces like a bulldog and twisted horns
Another game gem that also features carnotaurus is dinosaur hunting 2004, a Japanese game where you hunt and tranquillize dinosaurs, including carnotaurus and many other dinosaur designs you should check out, but carno looks similar to ace from dinosaur king, but there’s two, have exposed teeth, and have glowing yellow eyes and chase the protagonist
I want to thank you for including games in the list (especially the isle, which is my favourite), and also that you explained the osteoderm question (since I also knew it wrong and even commented about that under one of your vid).
The Disney Dinosaur version is my favorite, more intimidating while the Jurassic Park arcade version more disturbing and scarier since they had a reputation that make Trex didn't want mess around with them.
Honestly, my favorite Carnotaurus are the JWE2 ones specifically. The reason is because of its hunting animations. There had long been debate as to the use of its horns, with some suggesting combat or hunting. many nay-sayers exist, however, so this was often thrown out. But Carnotaurus was indeed a predator (proved by speed potential), but if not by its horns, how would it hunt? Not by arms or claws, and not by bite force. I had leaned toward some kind of predatory use for the horns, but never could think of a good way of envisioning it...until I saw the JWE2 hunting animations. They are perfect! Its not charging like a ram or Pachycephalosaurus, its flinging small prey into the air, and knocking over larger prey, and that fits the overall design of what Carnotaurus is. As for the osteoderms issue, is it possible for the big scales to be reinterpreted in the future as being osteoderms? I imagine it might be, and given the relation between Ceratosaurids and Abelisaurids, I personally wouldn't throw out the osteoderm idea completely. At the very least, scutes may be present on some.
If I remember correctly, the Carnotaurus and other dinosaurs that Tatem added to Carnivores were all based on various depictions of the animals made from artists and even paleo media! Like the Andrewsarchus looking like the one from Walking with beasts for example. But just like you said, it did clash with the canon art style of the game. So, after awhile, they changed each of their dinos/prehistoric animals designs and colorschemes. While the old ones did look cool, the new ones fit the world of Carnivores alot better. And I do appreciate how someone at Tatem listened to the Carnivores fanbase to do such a big change!
A different game you might want to look at for some of these dinosaurs is the indie game Paleo Pines! It's cute and cartoony but it's unique for the fact that a lot of the dinosaurs are very accurately portrayed, since they worked with an actual paleontologist to make sure things were as accurate as they could make them, even when they're that simplified.
I missed the designs from Dino Stalker, you should look more of the Dino Crisis designs in general. Also, Glavenus is an amazing design, although it clearly isn't meant to be accurate to a real Carno.
Carnotaurus really has been getting insane rep recently, Disney might have put its name out there but i noticed that people still didn't use it much in media after, it was around Dinosaur King were i noticed a BIG boom in Carnotaurus popularity, i think it being really fast really helped separate it in a recognizable way amazed you never mentioned the 1 in Dinothunder, there was just a random bad guy Zord that showed up once and then never again, but it was like a bad guy version of the Tyrannosaurus Zord, with a drill tail and all, but instead of being Red it was a dark Blue colour (shame really, i thought they were interesting but they just never did anything with them)
Having watched lots of bird documentaries, especially Dancing with the Birds, I was highly amused at the carnotaurus's dance segment. Really reminded me of the Carola's parotia's fastidiousness with its dancing court, and the moves were very bird-of-paradise-esque. It made me happy to see!
Terra Nova’s Carnotaurus will always be my favorite non-documentary appearance of Carnotaurus. As popular as Disney’s version is, Terra Nova’s version is the TRUE essence of Carnotaurus (despite its arms being WAY too big. If they were the Disney version’s arms, they’d be almost perfect). Disney’s version is a powerhouse, while Terra Nova’s version is a speed demon. What was the REAL Carnotaurus like? The real one was a speed demon.

Despite not being accurate to the real animal, the Disney version will always be a favorite of mine and it’s what made Carnotaurus my most liked carnivorous dinosaur.
I wish there was a crossover show between the carno from Disneys dinosaur with the full grown Spino from jp3 and the giga from Arc just where they all fight it out 😅
Adding to the game depictions there was a Jurassic Park the Lost World on rails shooting game with a Carnotaurus boss fight, Probably one of the strangest looks for the the dinosaur ever as it was basically a giant carnivorous Jackson chameleon.
