I know this is 3 years after the fact, but I just found this as I'm researching a trailer purchase. I love this guy. He shoots straight ad tells t like it is. Damn, I sure wish we had more people like this is America today. You have my vote for President in 2024! Thanks for a great report!
Wow, Your a Godsend brother i learn so much just listening to you its unreal. Thx you for passing on the knowledge you could be doing 100 other things but try to help your fellow man speaks volumes and says alot abt you as a person. Thanks again Bro. Peace
Bruh, you brought it this video, and I thought it was going to be another one of those basic videos! You spoke from the heart, you spoke with knowledge of your craft, and had that level of understanding that you don’t often find with a lot of these video bloggers! Keep on, keeping on, my brother, you got yourself another subscriber!
You prolly dont care but does anyone know of a method to log back into an Instagram account..? I was dumb forgot the password. I would love any assistance you can offer me
@Vihaan Tucker I really appreciate your reply. I got to the site on google and Im trying it out now. Looks like it's gonna take quite some time so I will reply here later with my results.
I find it interesting that the items that failed were different OEM parts (axle and tire packages) that the two companies sell WITH their trailers, but don't actually make themselves. Ultimately, yes, the companies are responsible for the selections of parts put on their trailers, but the trailers themselves seem to both be holding up well.
Right on with the tires. No trailer manufacturer can upsell me on the junk tires they use. I just go to the tire shop and have them put on the proper U.S. made tires of my choice.
I am not a hotshot driver. I do not have a gooseneck trailer, nor do I have a newer one-ton truck. I do not even own a truck! But, I like learning about trailers and I enjoyed this video.
Thanks for the honest, detailed review of both trailers! Much appreciated. What brand/ model of trailer tires have you had major issues with and what one's have you been running that have stood up well? Thanks!
Im currently searching for a trailer 20 Ft with 5Ft dove tail now I was looking at the PJ or Diamond then I look at big Tex and Load trail but now the Gator made which I think is in the lead on my choice wright now . This review was on point you help me a lot with this. Thanks
I am buying my first Gooseneck Trailer this week it is being built should be done by Friday. Its a Kaufman 20+5 and is a Tandem Dual Trailer 22.5k Rating. I sure hope its a good investment. Thanks for your Trailer review. GATORMADE tried to sell me a Trailer but it was a little more than I wanted to invest. Kaufmam seems to have good reviews and they are only 90 miles from me here in NC. $8000 out the door with Dexter 10k axels. Thanks for your knowledge and Trailer review. Very informative.
Great to here you’re about to get going bro!! Kaufman makes very good products that are very lite weight in comparison to other companies. I think you’ll do fine. HMU in the Cashapp if you need me bro! Safe travels and best of luck bro💸🚛💨💨💨
Great video. My biggest fault with Gatormade is color. They don't offer any. Just black. I even had a sales rep offer to sell me a bare steel trailer that I would then have to take and have painted the color I wanted. THE PRICE DIDN'T CHANGE!!!!!!!! They wanted the full price and didn't have to paint it. I'm with you, if the buyer is handing out the money we want what we want.
I bought a 2021 fmax212 . Hydrolic disk brakes and is has been really good to me . No issues yet in 5 months . This is my first trailer so I can’t compare to anything .
Great video, super helpful. I'm in the market for a new trailer, many thanks! i know its a pain but, do a real DOT pre trip inspection on truck and trailer every day you run. with practice it takes 10 minutes and saves money, stress and lives also DOT inspections go much better. Thanks again for your review
Good information in part. He stated a couple times that he overloaded the axles. A few of your problems are a direct result from failure to do a pretrip inspection.
Yeah that was definitely part of the problem in those days. I actually was doing pre-trips but there isn’t a set way to do it on a hotshot so I was missing some critical areas of concern. I learned over time how to do some very specific checks that really helped to prevent a lot of these problems… There was definitely a learning curve that only comes with experience…
Great info my man,,,, you know your trailers. I have a 25ft Gatormade and my main problem has been tires. I finally upgraded to 14 ply tire which is dang hard to find but its doing the job. Yes, It is a Chinese made tire but its holding up so far. Other than my tires, the trailer is holding up really good,,,paint is not so great but its tough trailer.
Bro love your vid man, truth be said customer service and back up with 90% of companies these day is sad bro. They will all treat you like your king when you make purchase but when your out the gate they don't want to know you no more.
I agree they make a good product. Ours just lacked quality control. The things that happen to ours could’ve happen to any manufacturer or dealer that doesn’t do a proper PDI (post delivery inspection). Ours is 7,750 lbs at 30+5 which was a real eye opening thing and a big let down. For what we carry in a non cdl atmosphere can be done by ANY manufacturer. Tbh I think the engineered beat is purely marketing for a 14-16k trailer. We’ve had PJ, Gator, DC, and Lamar in the fleet. The DC would be considered Jordan but non cdl, some adidas honestly would get the same job done...
As a comparison my super cab long bed 2021 F350 6.7 FX4 with 75gal in a 90 gal tank and full truck fuel and 32' 2021 22K Elite dual tandem trailer with 10k axles scaled out at 15600. BTW Truck weighs 9000# fully loaded with driver(350#).
I’d like to see the specs on both. There is 50 variables on each truck/trlr setup that could change the weights quite a bit. Also a few things I noted. Yes there lite weight trailers as far as capacity but there is also an option for elec over hydraulic brakes on both. Wouldn’t have magnets exploding. Also there is the option for disk brakes which are far superior and u don’t have drums explode then. Spring ride axles are not exactly ideal for a company that’s gonna rack up miles hard every week. Just my thoughts on some things. You spend more $ the first time avoids a lot of this type of stuff. Moral of the story don’t buy the cheaper versions and expect reliability of the better built upgraded everything trailer.
If they build it and sell it, i think it should be done correctly. True there are levels to trailers but poor quality control is a horse of another color. Thanks for the comment and safe travels out there bro
The diamond C is only lightweight compared to other trailers when the length gets longer, like 40'. The shorter 20+5 or 25+5 trailer sizes are almost identical in weight.
Great information on lack of quality workmanship on two very well known trailer name brands. It’s too bad here in America we’re putting out this type of workmanship. I always buy American when ever I can cause I’m getting ready to purchase a trailer built in Texas. Before purchasing I’m going to make sure it’s the correct axles and also taking my torque wrench with me and torque those nuts before leaving the yard.
A friend of mine has a gator and had axle problems as well and also said he had terrible service. Took him months to get a response after he practically forced them to respond
I think a lot of stuff was fluke stuff on the Diamond C. I feel like the first person the lose bolt thing has happened to. Maybe not, but I’ve never seen bolts that were just plain lose like this..🤦🏽♂️
Preciate that bro. Yeah we like the duramax and Cummins out of the big 3. I bring the 06/5.9 out when I feel like shifting🙂. 427k same clutch since I’ve had it (got it @160k miles) I float shift😃
In this interest of fairness, I work for gator. If you are going to hot shot a 4 tire trailer in my experience the only way to go is 8k electric over hydraulic DISC brake axles that last so much long with less trouble and less cost to work on!
Either one should at least last 3,000 miles just the same. I had adjusters exploding and become lodged in the shoe WEEK ONE. That’s a true statement about the discs tho, I must agree..
I’m in the process of having a gator made being built 35+5 non cdl. What advice can you give me that I can do to my trailer to prevent some of these issues.
ask the person that got you to sign if it will pass a DOT inspection. Then do one before you hook up to it, take pics of any concerns, then do what you need to.
I own 3 diamond c gooseneck , a tri axel dump trailer, a fmax 221 and a 207.. all three have been excellent trailers.... your boys must of been built on a Friday at 4:55. Lol
I bought a 14k dump trailer....tires were rated at 12.k, so the tires couldn't match the trailer's weight capacity. Apparently the DMV allows trailer manufacturer's to equip trailers with tires matching ONLY to ~90% weight capacity....which is something I've never heard of. I upgraded my dump trailer tires to semi truck front steer tires, they are same size but have twice the side wall strength and required for ANY offroad driving, gravel roads, street curbs, pot holes, etc.
@ 5:30, those tires he was showing look like they were retreads that failed throwing the tread, not new tires. @ 12:30 it's not serrated, it's a distorted thread lock nut.
I love this video thank you sir for this review of these 2 trailers and for being straight forward and honest keep on trucking and stay safe Happy New Year
Feel bad for you brother, I've been there too. All of these manufacturers charge a lot of money, but a lot have problems. So frustrating. But I know you'll come out ahead, you dont seem like the type to let these things beat you, you'll beat them all.
If you want to hear it like it is, this is the video for you. ha ha ha ha, very nice dude, your both smart and hilarious!! I would like to add that ive had a gatormade 16ft gooseneck dump, 8k greased hubs, for a year now. I have not used it a lot but your observations are pretty much spot on - gator is fabricated and built solid, they have pretty much zero customer service, the tires are low quality, and the axles although Dexter is supposed to be a good brand are kinda hit and miss. To this day when i start up or almost come to a stop, or use the brakes, it has this annoying hop where i can tell something is rubbing and gives a very distinct pulsing/jerking. Its very disappointing but Ive just lived with it, but after seeing some of your pics Im sure its a brake shoe or drum problem.
Thank you for this honest review. I have been torn between PJ, Gator, and Diamond C. This did help me. I was leaning hard towards that Diamond C, but..Whew!! That's a whole lot going on! With regards to the pot hole issue you had with your trailer, you might have had better luck going after the city for that reimbursement. Here in Indianapolis, if you have to come out of your pocket because of a pot hole, you can submit a claim with the city. I'm certainly not saying they all get paid, but you'd have at least had better customer service with them. Also, your fender tips dig had me cracking up!! You went all-the-way back! Keep up the great content! One question: Do you have an opinion on oil bath axles vs grease? I haven't looked through all your videos, but I will. You just sound very knowledgeable about the mechanics of it all.
Great video! Excellent information and kept it real too. I was looking at a gatormade gooseneck dump trailer, and a big tex brand and a load trail brand because they are close to where I live. I have a gooseneck big tex 40 with hydraulic dovetail. It has been a great trailer over all. The load trail guys have a 232 warranty which covers the towing truck too. I might go with those guys from here on out.
I considered Load Trail until I saw a used 2019 model on the lot. In one year it had turned into a rust bucket. The powder coat had started flaking off in areas, you could clearly see where welds weren’t properly cleaned and prepped before powder coat and were rusting badly.
Overtime the Diamond Cs will last a lot longer than the Gators. I've got to visit and see both manufacturering sites and I believe Diamond C puts the best work into their products. Like you said it comes down to money and you usually get what you pay for. Safe travels.
F the up grade on tires if they are getting foreign made “ el cheapo “ tires, probably better to just delete at the dealership and bite the bullet and buy some quality tires from the start of the game I can’t buy or get service for a Gator made west of the Mississippi so Diamond C is the only choice here in Texas
Man they had some real trash for the tire upgrade. Lost my first one in 3 weeks. Did u see the deal I got on the Bridgestones on the live the other day. $200 for 4. Date code 2019. Awesome day there bro, saved $1200👍🏽
Thanks for the honest review. I’m about to get a 40 ft air ride and love the looks of a Diamond C but may go with PJs because of the warranty and amount of shops across the states.
I am shopping for an 18k utility trailer. I really appreciate this review. I was leaning toward a Gatormade aardvark. Should I? I won’t put near the miles you do, because it’s just a farm trailer but it will see a lot of rough roads.
It was performed as it should be. These occurrences happened hours into the trip. I believe in doing it everytime you leave the cab but unfortunately some aren’t as diligent and even then, I’ve had problems… weird things happen. Simply grazing a curb can seriously set all that stuff into motion..
Hot shot drivers have really exposed these trailer manufactures on the fact that for years they really have not produced a quality / commercial line trailer! VS Wabash, Great Dane etc in the larger stuff.
Wow I was not expecting to hear any of that about either trailer especially the diamond c I got to say though I don’t haul full time I use my big Tex for weekends hauling my tractor just messing around and I have nothing but negative things to say about them so whatever y’all do stay away from big Tex
VANDY FITNESS I’ve never been a big Tex fan, just by watching them work out in the real world on a daily. Just to much sag and flop for longterm durability for the welds..
Good video Sr. I don't even hotshot but watched the entire video. Very informative. I like the animation to get your point to sink in. GreatNorthern trailers are made in Sutherlin Oregon. Fyi.
You'll go broke running 7k drum axles. I run 12k disc brakes with 14ply. I get 100k miles out of my brakes and tires. I have a 2015 40ft loadmax for sale that's had 3 sets of tires including factory and 2 sets of pads I set of rotors and calipers. In 5 YEARS max weight use. Run provider flyer tires 14ply from discount tire direct $150 ea. GOLD . But good luck and keep grinding
Great setup but it’s not applicable to non CDL due to weight. Disk brakes are available on 8k axles tho but besides that, the 12x4 brakes are about the largest on an 8k.. I wouldn’t go as far to say a person would go broke because the price of 3, 2x12 changes is about the same as the one pad change you’ll need for the 12k’s. I think it’s more about time wasted. I like loadmax trailers they seem pretty strong. I have a friend that runs them👍🏽
@@HotShotHaven I forgot your not CDL . What's holding you back? I'm sure there's more loads up to 12k lbs you can still pull with a single wheel instead of being limited to 8 or 9k loads. Think about this what's gonna pay more hauling $1000 in building supplies or an $80000 skidsteer that takes up 10ft of deck. Drive up and go quick load You'll start seeing 3 and $4 per mile loads even as a partial . I do mainly oilfield pipe and equipment and it pays well because it's big dollar stuff. 1 valve set can be $100k in value but it pays big$$$.
gary r nothing is holding me back personally. I just like the weight class and have really learned the partial game. I work my equipment very easy with Awsome fuel mileage. I do have CDL equipment that I dispatch daily and the difference really isn’t amazing. I don’t want any part of losing any of my personal freedoms for I title that in clearly don’t need. I’ve made more money since I started in 2018 than 7 of 10 of my acquaintances in 18 wheelers. I just work hard and have good customers that move lite stuff for good money. I just found my niche bro, that’s all💯
Thanks for the informative video, i'm in the market to upgrade my 14gn big tex to a 20-25k rated trailer due to a mini excavator i purchased being a bit too much for the big tex. Guess I will have to do some research and weight comparisons on the diamond c trailers as compared to others in the same load class. It will be interesting to see what their definition of light weight is. Keep up the great videos.
All systems have failure points. I totally agree that EOH performs vastly better but you have more components to attend to and actually more failure points, ie pump, lines, wheel cylinders, and ect….Each system is only as good as it’s individual components and maintenance. Most all trailers are initially assembled with the cheapest of everything, which is really a shame…
I blessed the cash app. And hopefully we can converse some. Being that I’m just starting out in hotshot. If you have any time to spare please let me know. Love the realness. And know how to pay homage to a more knowledgeable mind in this game then me.
@@HotShotHaven great conversation bro. And many more to come . Thanks and just keep being 100 like you doing and them blessings gonna be to much to hold frfr !!!
Could you tell me if DoT officers are looking at the GCVWR at the scales or only seeing if the weight on each axle doesn't go over their GAWR? The reason I ask is Ram actually has weird ratings for their pickups. For example I am about to buy a 5500 DRW but their 3500 is actually rated higher than the 5500 for tow capacities?? The axles, however, are rated higher on the 5500 than the 3500 (actual ratings below). So going by their axle ratings I can actually carry much more with the 5500 but the 3500 for some reason has a higher 'tow capacity and GCVWR'. The 5500 has GVWR of 19,500 and a GCVWR of 37,500. Max trailer rating is 28,760. The 3500 has a GVWR of 14,000 and a GCVWR of 39,100. Max trailer rating is 30,120
We want the AXLE capacity. Believe me, the brakes and axle are SUPER different. 5500 is the stronger truck with more payload so you won’t be over on each axle. Gvwr is the main concern. A 2500, for example can TOW a lot but it can’t take the weight of the trailer bearing down on the rear so it sags low, the 3500 will just squat, and a 5500 looks UNLOADED 💪🏽💪🏽💪🏽
@@HotShotHaven Thanks for the reply. So if I understand correctly, I have a CDL so as long as the steer and drive does not exceed the vehicle GVWR and the trailer axles aren't over the trailer GVWR then I'm good? and that my plate on my vehicle is registered through IRP for the max weight I'm going to be carrying?
They have the axles separated by weight on your truck vin sticker. The GVWR is for a single unit. The breakdown of axle weights is for combination with trailer. So then you’ll see you have a front, rear, and trailer axle capabilities to go off..
I live in Colorado born and raised in Mississippi I just bought a GMC TOPKICK 4500 trying to decide what type of trailer car hauling or drop deck? I'm moving back to Mississippi would like to run back and forth between the two .
Buy the drop deck and let it pay for your next car hauler. Freight is a little more versatile for starting off and you can still run a couple cars in a pinch. Cars do pretty well also with volume but are even harder to get a load for in the first 3 months due to the cargo value..If you do cars you will really see your money running 5 or more✊🏾💸🚛💨💨💨
Mostly the added maintenance of a 3rd axle, added tolls, and the constant dragging of the tires in tight turns. It’s not a terrible idea and it does lessen the load overall on the road, but they’re better on things that may not haul really heavy, such as car hauler type setups
@@HotShotHaven Already man, I started with the idea of going non cdl but halfway through getting set up I started studying for the cdl but didnt really want to go that route. Then you dropped them two non cdl vs cdl videos and it put me back on my path.
Good Day Logistics once you’ve spent a year working out a game plan and all the pros and cons, you gotta stick to the script and not doubt your research. Things look a lot different than they actually are out here bro💯

Lol
Man I said the saaaame thing😂😂😂 I just couldn’t understand the💩☹️☹️☹️
I bought a 14k dump trailer....tires were rated at 12.k, so the tires couldn't match the trailer's weight capacity.
More like 80%😬 I don’t think it’s safe for the type of miles we do. I recommend at least a 14 ply
Thanks for the heads up. I'm in Jackson and I'm thinking about hot shotting. Love to learn from you. Keep doing your thing!
Watch Haulin'Cash for info on hot shot.
Kinda shit you on bro?🤷🏽♂️
@ 5:30, those tires he was showing look like they were retreads that failed throwing the tread, not new tires.
@ 12:30 it's not serrated, it's a distorted thread lock nut.
I said the same when I first got the trailer but was like,” naw they wouldn’t do recaps, would they?”🤔 I guess we both had the same thought...

I have a 22’ diamond c lpx on order hopefully I have zero issues I’m. Getting screwed by this covid 19.
Hopefully your will work out well💸🚛💨💨💨
Trailer professor fo sho 👍!!

I had that problem with one of my axles I had to strap the axle with heavy ratchet strap to make it home.
Get er done!!!
Thanks for the comparison between these two trailers.
No problem at all
Overtime the Diamond Cs will last a lot longer than the Gators. I've got to visit and see both manufacturering sites and I believe Diamond C puts the best work into their products. Like you said it comes down to money and you usually get what you pay for. Safe travels.
I agree! The suspension setup in the DC is better and so is their rust protection 💪🏽
F the up grade on tires if they are getting foreign made “ el cheapo “ tires, probably better to just delete at the dealership and bite the bullet and buy some quality tires from the start of the game
I can’t buy or get service for a Gator made west of the Mississippi so Diamond C is the only choice here in Texas
Man they had some real trash for the tire upgrade. Lost my first one in 3 weeks. Did u see the deal I got on the Bridgestones on the live the other day. $200 for 4. Date code 2019. Awesome day there bro, saved $1200👍🏽
@@HotShotHaven no I just found the channel but will watch ASAP
Thanks bro I really appreciate the views and hope you enjoy it. 🍞🚛💨💨💨
They make a dang strong trailer. Mine was originally rated for 20k👍🏽
Why wasn't a pre trip inspection done b4 leaving lot ?
It was performed as it should be. These occurrences happened hours into the trip. I believe in doing it everytime you leave the cab but unfortunately some aren’t as diligent and even then, I’ve had problems… weird things happen. Simply grazing a curb can seriously set all that stuff into motion..
Hot shot drivers have really exposed these trailer manufactures on the fact that for years they really have not produced a quality / commercial line trailer! VS Wabash, Great Dane etc in the larger stuff.
I like diamond c better because they are not only beautiful, but are also tough, and most of their products are rated for higher gvwr.
Yep
Your correct they take your money with a smile then your on your own. Hope they make it right .
Never did.... I purchased EVERYTHING full price as far as the axle. Tire manufacturer reimbursement me for the tires not Gatormade...
@@HotShotHaven Watching your video, you really know your stuff so I would think the company should make it right. Good luck keep trucken
Sad sad situation with these trailers when you find out it’s nothing more than a loaded rolling grenade ready to explode
Disc brake best upgrade for trailer,
Yep yep
Great video! Be safe
Great video bro. Respect
Drive up and go quick load
You'll start seeing 3 and $4 per mile loads even as a partial .
I just found my niche bro, that’s all💯
I'm going for a bee wise ultimate dump 14ft. No-ICE.

What non-cdl trailer would you recommend?

have you look at or herd of Shipshe trailers
Yep and I really like the shipshe. Looks like good quality work too 👍🏽
Hotshot Haven could I use one with a metal deck to do cars or Freight
So gator versus diamond c which one is better?
Thanks for the informative video, i'm in the market to upgrade my 14gn big tex to a 20-25k rated trailer due to a mini excavator i purchased being a bit too much for the big tex. Guess I will have to do some research and weight comparisons on the diamond c trailers as compared to others in the same load class. It will be interesting to see what their definition of light weight is. Keep up the great videos.
Yeah that will interesting for sure
Any u tuber that uses the word staut gets my sub..
Great video
Preciate that bro🍞🚛💨💨💨
You have to upgrade to electric over hydraulic brakes that will fix all brake problems.

I was looking at getting a Gator, but I think you changed my mind. Does anyone know anything about Kraftsman trailers? Looking for a 40K trailer.

Max trailer rating is 30,120
Neither they look at GVWR on both VIN stickers and add them together.
@@HotShotHaven I understand. I appreciate the replies and the help in your videos! Your content is as real as it gets and I appreciate that!
They have the axles separated by weight on your truck vin sticker. The GVWR is for a single unit. The breakdown of axle weights is for combination with trailer. So then you’ll see you have a front, rear, and trailer axle capabilities to go off..
Thank you for this, companies only interested in lining their own pockets.
Thats cutting bottom lines with minimum wage help for volume employees
I live in Colorado born and raised in Mississippi I just bought a GMC TOPKICK 4500 trying to decide what type of trailer car hauling or drop deck? I'm moving back to Mississippi would like to run back and forth between the two .
Buy the drop deck and let it pay for your next car hauler. Freight is a little more versatile for starting off and you can still run a couple cars in a pinch. Cars do pretty well also with volume but are even harder to get a load for in the first 3 months due to the cargo value..If you do cars you will really see your money running 5 or more✊🏾💸🚛💨💨💨
Why not a tri axle ?? Please explain.
Mostly the added maintenance of a 3rd axle, added tolls, and the constant dragging of the tires in tight turns. It’s not a terrible idea and it does lessen the load overall on the road, but they’re better on things that may not haul really heavy, such as car hauler type setups
Glad you received it, Thanks for the Shoutout !!!
Absolutely bro!! Really appreciate it and I’ll make sure to do more technical videos on load Securement and equipment in the future
So it’s best to have a 35ft or 40 ft trailer?
No Cdl you wanna stay under 65’ total. With a Cdl you can register as a tractor trailer and take the bed off and be over 65’
