Good review of the major differences. Glad you pointed out the clearance difference on the back end. Something important to think about before you buy.
Kool trailer. Agree straight deck is awesome. I know you will want to upgrade tires if not done. Then, recommend the Discount Ramps Step deck system. I did, haven't been more pleased.
How did the actual empty weight compare on these? I've heard Big Tex tends to be lighter and Gatormade heavier. I wouldn't want a mega ramp trailer either unless I knew it was going to be used mostly for loading wheeled or tracked equipment, and if that being the case I'd probably go hydraulic dovetail if budget allowed. For LTL flatbed freight a straight deck is the way to go but almost everything sitting on dealer lots is either a mega ramp or hyro-dove I've noticed.
About a 1,000 pounds lighter but the Gatormade has 10k axles and it don’t have that heavy ramp system. The Gatormade pulls a lot better than the Big Tex. It tracks better and handles better. Plus it has loading lights and you wouldn’t think you would use them that much but I use them a lot.
I have a gator... man. They are heavyyyyy! You gotta paint them every year...other than that, strong strong strong. Also, the dovetail is 5 inches higher than the big tex. They dont drag like a big tex. Just for futur reference you can get mega ramps on a gator...they dont drag. Also, get a bulldog BX1 coupler for the gator. It has more adjustment points. Keep the front of the trailer level with the truck. It will ride muchhhhh better.
How much weight can you haul on that trailer? Are your ramps strong enough to load a semi on your trailer? I'm thinking about buying one northwest of you and am trying to get an idea of how to get it home. I'd rather reach out to someone I kinda know rather than fund some broker's lifestyle. I do enough of that already! And yes, the toolboxes on the Big Tex trailers aren't good for much. I use mine for straps and small items. I added a tool box just in front of the axles for my chains.
My new Gator has a gvwr of 24,900 but I don’t really know about the slide out ramps. The Big Tex had the mega ramps and yes you could load freight on top of them. Gatormade is the way to go in my opinion. They are made for Hotshot guys. The Big Tex works but for me the Gator has a better set up. Thanks for watching !
@@DaydreamAboutNiceThings Trane won't load AC units on them though. They double stacked 4 units just in front of the ramps...great for MPG! I was looking at a F450 then I was going to get about the same trailer you just bought. But I can buy a semi and trailer cheaper than the hotshot setup and as you know, there's far more loads available for the semi. Now I just have to figure out how to get the truck home. It would be 502 miles, with your home about midway between me and where the truck is. I'm guessing the truck weighs around 16K.
@@2020HotShotTruckingLLC to heavy for most hotshot trailers. You are right Semi set up about the same cost. Where the semis cost more will be MPG and maintenance. Good luck maybe it will work out for you. Can you just drive the truck home or did I miss something ?
Yeah you don't need anything to high up. In fact, the smaller the better for you. You could probably get by using a hotwheels trailer and truck aaaaaahahaha!! You sure are excited about that beef jerky. Must be some good stuff. Why sell the trailer? Why not keep a spare? What if you break something on the other? Isn't it good to have a backup? Oh more friendly. Hmmm. Ok. Well I guess sell it then. If you don't need it, guess no reason to keep it. Ok I gotta go help unload the hummer. Got back late last night.
Great info!
Thanks ! Thanks for watching !

Had the exact same issue with my big tex 14 GN with the toolbox. Not to mention the craftsmanship was disappointing. Great video and God speed!
Thank you and thanks for watching !

@@DaydreamAboutNiceThings The light bar is very cool.
My Bigtex had a round tube for the gooseneck and it had plenty of holes in it
Figure the Gator will too. Thanks for watching !
