Feedback Patching with Tape & Microsound Music Machine

  • Pete from the Make Noise Instagram channel returns to the channel to share an uncommonly beautiful feedback patch!
    Some notes:
    The basic idea of this patch can be applied to any combination of modules: patch the output of one to an input on another, and then patch the output of that second module back to an input on the first. Mult and monitor one of these outputs as well and you are officially feedback patching.
    This particular patch (one I find myself going back to often) centers around QPAS paired with an echo or reverb module- in this case a Mimeophon (although an Echophon or Erbe-Verb would work as well).
    The types (and number) of modules you use in this feedback loop will drastically change the results, as will any parameter adjustments on either/any of the modules in the loop!
    Feedback Patching is an experimental technique- embrace the uncertainty! Patch freely, experiment and have fun!
    What are some of your favorite module parings to patch as a feedback loop? Let us know in the comments! Happy patching!

    Cool patch. Even cooler is how each step is outlined with detail at a digestible pace . Top notch video Pete!

    That was outstanding. Such a good video. I'm just stepping into the world of modular synthesis and this is a wonderful welcome.

    Well done! I love spending hours messing with feedback. Kudos for stating the alternative modules that could be used, if one does not have these specific modules.

    Instant horror soundtrack! Very cool, love how controllable the feedback is with just a few cables

    Excellent! Hope you have more Shared Systems available soon as they have been unavailable for a year and half. I have Mimeophon and 0-ctrl/0-coast and would love the full system to use with my modular stuff. Mimeophon is a super amazing module and really enjoy the 0-ctrl sequencer!

    This is exactly what i needed for my composition
    I just added a little Erbe-Verb and used Echophon instead
    Thanks Pete from a fellow Pete

    Flip will have a more pronounced effect when processing a signal with more transients.

    What does "gestural" mean? I've heard that word a lot when discussing modular and I have no idea what it means. Thanks

      we typically use this to refer to motion, particularly physical motion being inscribed on the sound in some way via modulation

    Not familiar with QPAS - is it self-oscillating before going into Mimeophone?

    Even at the beginning of this video where there were only two modules in the feedback path, the gain in the loop seemed really well balanced - no runaway squeals and not silent either. I take it that Pete has practiced with this setup to be able to find that sweet spot, or is the QPAS just really good at this?

  • @brandonlasater8613
    @brandonlasater8613 3 роки тому

    The 0-Ctrl manual says 2 cables must "always" be used to control a device but only one is going out to QPAS level, how is that working then?

    • @dirthawk
      @dirthawk 3 роки тому

      he’s using a gate output to open and close the vca of qpas, just on/off behavior

    • @MAKEN0ISEMUSIC

      This note is to ensure a solid ground connection between the two devices. Looks like we forgot for a moment there! Nothing "bad" will happen.
