  • In this video, we continue our road trip through South India as we drive our rickshaw (tuk tuk), Rusty, from Mahabalipuram in Tamil Nadu to Pondicherry (Puducherry). We experience the chaos of the busy traffic and roads - the most crazy and scary being the buses and trucks! We then make it to our destination and walk along the esplanade and beaches with many friendly locals, exploring a few markets and temples, before having a delicious Indian dinner of masala dosa, vada and khichdi.
    This footage was filmed in February 2024.

    They say if you learned driving in India, you can drive anywhere in any traffic conditions.

    Hi Matt and Caitlin, The Roaming Pickels. make a plan to visit Mysore. It's a cultural city in India, and it's famous for yoga and its beautiful places. From here, you can visit other tourist spots like Ooty, Coorg, and Wayanadu.

      Hi 😊 Unfortunately, we didn't make it to these places due to time restrictions however, these places are certainly on our list of places to visit when we return as they look amazing! We did manage to visit places like Thekkady and Munnar which were also absolutely stunning.

    That mashed potato like thing is made of semolina and called “Upma” it’s a staple pretty much anywhere in India, more so in south. Generally eaten for breakfast. Pretty filling and savoury. There’s a sweet version also called “halwa”. The Vada is made of fermented lentils and rice flour and then deep fried. Dipped in “sambar”( the red dipping sauce like thing). Sambar is actually mildy spiced lentils stew with vegetables

      Thankyou so much for all of this helpful information 😊we certainly had our fair share of Vada during our time in India and we enjoyed dipping it in the sambar. The taste was incredible!

    I’m still here watching and enjoying every episode! I love seeing the locals waving and smiling as you pass one another. I must show your tuk tuk (rickshaw) to my eldest because a couple of months ago he told me that he wanted to do the same one day. I was like what! Why? But I get it now watching you. Anyway, he and his wife are taking next year off work to travel, and India is definitely on their list of countries to explore.

      The locals were some of the friendliest people we have ever met in our lives, its such a great memory.
      Ahh wow that's amazing, I bet they are excited! I know we were when we first started our 1 year off. It was such a great feeling 😊

    I’ve just noticed your rickshaw 🛺 Rusty was tailor-designed with The Roaming Pickles, Rusty & kangaroo 🦘 😂
    Thanks for sharing your adventures. I thought you’re brave to buy a rickshaw for travelling in India 🇮🇳 Also I didn’t know there’s a French 🇫🇷 colonial area in India.

      Haha yes, our aim with the paintjob was to incorporate some bright traditional Indian colours with a mixture of meaningful Indian animals (Peacock feathers and Elephant footprints) and Australia's famous Kangaroo (obviously because we are Aussie 😊) as well as a few personal touches such as Rusty's name and our UA-cam Channel. We are by no means good artists but we are proud of the design we came up with 😊
      Its amazing what India has to offer. Everywhere you look, you see something that is absolutely mind blowing.

      @@TheRoamingPickels wow 😮 did I miss any episodes? I watched the episode you went to pick up Rusty but didn’t know you actually designed it yourself? Did you send your design in advance? How long did it take to have it done? Maybe you should do an episode for the birth of Rusty. 😉

    • @TheRoamingPickels
      @TheRoamingPickels  11 днів тому

      Haha no sorry there aren’t any episodes of India prior to picking up Rusty as it was all organised via email before we arrived so it was all done before we flew to India 🇮🇳. We sent the design through approximately 3 weeks before arriving to ensure it was ready when we arrived 😊

    • @Ozukovsky

      Because CNG engines don't have enough power to travel long distances and CNG isn't available all over India. Only in metro cities it's available

    • @TheRoamingPickels
      @TheRoamingPickels  27 днів тому

      We didn't have a choice unfortunately, so I guess it made our decision easy 😊

      @TheRoamingPickels  27 днів тому

      Thanks for the info. We can't say we even gave the availability of CNG a thought but that makes sense now that we think about it. 👍
