    Dennis Carl Wilson (December 4, 1944 - December 28, 1983) was an American musician, singer, and songwriter who co-founded the Beach Boys. He is best remembered as their drummer and as the middle brother of bandmates Brian and Carl Wilson. Dennis was the only true surfer in the Beach Boys, and his personal life exemplified the "California Myth" that the band's early songs often celebrated. He was also known for his brief association with Charles Manson, a cult leader and songwriter later convicted of several murders, and for co-starring in the 1971 film Two-Lane Blacktop.
    Wilson served mainly on drums and backing vocals for the Beach Boys. His playing can be heard on many of the group's hits, despite the popular misconception that he was always replaced on record by studio musicians. He originally had few lead vocals on the band's songs, but his prominence as a singer-songwriter increased following their 1968 album Friends. His music is characterized for reflecting his "edginess" and "little of his happy charm". His original songs for the group included "Little Bird" (1968), "Forever" (1970), and "Slip On Through" (1970). Friends and biographers also say that he was an uncredited writer on "You Are So Beautiful", a hit for Joe Cocker in 1974.
    During his final years, Wilson struggled with drug addiction which contributed to tensions with his bandmates. His solo album Pacific Ocean Blue (1977) was released to warm reviews and moderate sales. Sessions for a follow-up, Bambu, disintegrated before his death. In 1983, Wilson drowned at age 39; five years later, he was posthumously inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as a member of the Beach Boys

    Without Dennis, there would have not been the music that we all love.Dennis was the muse to inspire Brian to write all those surf songs. Dennis lived that life, surfing, the beach, cars, chasing girls etc. he was the only one in that group that lived that lifestyle. Dennis was a extremely talent man,he never got the recognition he deserved . Rip dennis

      The Wilson brothers were deeply loyal to each other (in spite of, or because of all the fighting they used to do as children. Carl and Dennis became very close as adults, but when they were kids, Dennis used to torment Carl for being fat. He used to call him "Porky"), but Dennis became very protective of Brian's creativity after his breakdown. I remember hearing Al Jardine tell a story about how Mike was either denigrating Brian or arguing with him or something and Dennis would come over and shove Mike away. Dennis was never afraid to get stuck in.

      In the Documentary..
      Dennis Wilson: The Real Beach Boy.. one guy said, you couldn't say anything bad about Brian and if you did Dennis would be all over you. That goes to show the level of unconditional love and support Dennis had towards Brian.

    The brothers were all fiercely loyal to each other. They stood their ground in defending each other through all the trials over the years. It effected Brian tremendously losing both of his brothers. He felt he could have, or should have, been a better brother to them which was a heavy load to bare. He finally worked his way through the pain by writing music about his feelings. One of his greatest songs "Lay Down Burden" was the one that was the breakthrough for him. If you get the chance take a listen to it. You will be moved.

    I remember Dennis Wilson being nice to me when I was a little girl (age 7); at Earl Warren Showgrounds in Santa Barbara, CA with my Sister & a neighbor girl & our Father. Our Dad; (divorced now 3 years from our Mother), asked if he could take us, to go see the Beach Boys. We screamed with Joy screaming ;"Ohhhhj Please Momma! PLEASE SAY YES ITS OKAY FOR DADDY TO TAKE US TO GO SEE THE BEACH BOYS...PLEASE ????!!! She totally thought him it was OK. She liked The Beach Boys too...she let him take us. During intermission; he let me ...this teensy; petite tanned & blonde California "toehead"..."Meeeeee", who twisted her tail end off that night doing the dance craze at that time called the Twist" as well as us in a circle formation...we 3 did this really cool dance routine...My Sister; & our neighborhood friend learned bits & pieces of other dances; from watching TV programs called: "The HALLA-BALLOO (!!) SHOW; * The "SHINDIG" ..." American Bandstand; THE Lloyd Thaxton Show & "The Action" Beachside TV Variety Hour Shows that were on TV. I loved to dance back then to The Beach Boys & Jan & Dean & all the greats of the Top 40 Greats we'd all hear on our radios & TV The Ed Sullivan Show too. The Beatles were out then too. Motown was huge. That's all our neighborhood girlfriend listened too...Motown; Elvis Presley & The Beach Boys were our Neighborhood girlfriends favorite & she had alot of their albums whereas we had TONS of 45's because my Sister & I would split our allowance we got once of month of $2.00 each...50 cents a week...but we had WAAAAY more responsibilities back then for two kids ages 7-8-ish year of age & 10-11ish. We had to do as much as a wife keeping a household emaculate...had to do. It was VERY HARD on my Sister & I. Sometimes or neighborhood girlfriend would come over to help us clean. She had to babysit 5 toddler cousins & her VERY Spoiled & BAD tempered Brother...the EXACT same age as our VERY SPOILED Brother (he wasn't Bad tempered though alike our POOR neighborhood Girlfriend's Brother was. Her parents worked long hours like my Sister & my divorced parents did. When one of her parents would be home the day shift from working the night shift...the other would be sleeping. We felt sorry for her. We never had to cook. Our Mom's made lots of Casseroles in the late 1950's & 1960's. There were NOT alot fast food places. McDonald's wouldn't come for another years at this point in time. ANYHOW Dennis gave me his drumstick TO KEEP (!!)"...after he pretend played his 🥁 drums...guiding with my hands...AS "HE" PLAYED THOSE DRUMS (!!) I NEVER FELT SO "SPECIAL"; AS I DID THAT MOMENT IN TIME ASvA YOUNG GIRL...AS A "LITTLE SPITFIRE"...HE CALLED ME AFTER SEEING ME DANCE "THE TWIST". MR. DENNIS WILSON WAS SOOOOO GIVING OF HIS ❤ HEART. MY STEP DAD SADLY TOOK IT "AND" MY 3 FOOT TALL CUPIE DOLL THAT OUR MOM HAD PUT INSIDE A WARDROBE CLOSET DRESSER...TO TAKE TO THE DUMP "AFTER SHE UNLOADED THE CONTENTS "; OUR MOVE TO A NEW HOUSE. MY MOM FELT HORRIBLE FOR ME AS SHE KNEW WHAT BOTH MEANT TO ME. ID HAD MY CUPIE DOLL SINCE I WAS 3. ITS JUST WHERE MOM HAD PACKED IT ALONG WITH SOME OLD STUFFED ANIMALS OF MY BABY BROTHER'S TOO. HE WAS ONLY 2 YRS OLD AT THE TIME. SHE TOLD ME HE'D NOT MISS THEM AS HE WAS TOO LITTLE TO UNDERSTAND. I WAS DEVASTATED "FOR HIM" TOO; BUT MOM ASSURED ME HE'D BE OK. I WAS MORE UPSET YEARS LATER WHEN SIR DENNIS PASSED FROM AN APPARENT DIVE OFF A FRIENDS BOAT BUT NEVER RESURFACED. WHEN MY HUSBAND PASSED AWAY FROM COLON CANCER IN 2012...MY BELOVED NANA BOTH HE & I HAD BEEN TAKING CARE OF FOR 22+ YEARS ...DIED EXACTLY 3 1/2 WEEKS BEFORE MY HUSBAND DIED & MY BFF BEST FRIEND FROM CHURCH ID BEEN BEST FRIENDS WITH FOR 6 YEARS...PASSED AWAY FROM NOT HEALING; AFTER A MINOR SURHERY
    SHE WAS A DIABETIC. SHE DIED 3 WEEKS AFTER MY HUSBAND DIED IN SEPTEMBER 2ND ON OUR 39 WEDDING ANNIVERSARY...SHE IN OCTOBER 2012 ...I CRIED SOOOOO HARD...WHY? IT HURT SO BADLY. I WONDERED IF MY HEART WOULD EVER BE ABLE TO HEAL. I WAS NUMB...A ZOMIE...THEN MY UNCLE PASSED AWAY...MY MOM'S ONLY SIBLING (PROSTATE CANCER); WITHIN 2 WEEKS OF MY BFF. OUR DAD'S WIFE; MY STEPMOM PASSED EARLIER IN MAY 2012 FROM FEMALE CERVIX CANCER. SHE WENT WITHIN 8 MONTHS OF HER DIAGNOSIS...I HATED 2012 WHEN 11 OTHER FAMILY & FRIENDS DIED THAT YEAR 2012 ALL VERY YOUNG TO EITHER CANCER OR HEART ISSUES. IT WAS WAAAAY TOO MUCH TO HANDLE. MY MOM FOLLOWED IN OCTOBER 9, 2017 &Y SWEET DAD IN APRIL 8, 2020. ALL THIS PAIN DO VERY PAINFUL . YES MR. DENNIS WILSON'S PASSING WAS MY 1ST HEARTBREAL THOUGH. I'LL ALWAYS REMEMBER HIS KINDNESS TO A LITTLE GIRL (MEEEE!) WHOM HE SHOWED & SHARED FUN & JOYFUL KINDNESS TO...& CALLED ME "LITTLE SPITFIRE "(!!!).
    ID LIKE TO THINK OF MY DAD, MR. DENNIS WILSON, MY HUSBAND, MY MOM, OUR STEP-PARENTS, MY BFF, MY NANA & GRANDPA, MY PATERNAL GRANDPARENTS & MY UNCLES & AUNTS & COUSINS & ALL WHO PASSED AWAY...BE WITH JESUS IN THE AFTERLIFE...HAVING SO MUCH PAIN FREE JOYFUL HAPPINESS. ID LOVE TO SEE MR. DENNIS WILSON PLAYING DRUMS WITH THE GREAT GINGER BAKER & THE ENTIRE REST OF THE BEST WHO EVER PLAYED EARTHBOUND 🌎 IN A BAND & SANG VOCALS ALL JAMMING IN HEAVEN WITH ANGELS PLAYING THEIR HARPS OF GOLD & TRUMPETS HEAVENLY HOST BLASTING AS LOUD AS THEY WANT & JESUS HAVING SUCH A HAPPY TIME FOR ALL. ALL TGE CREATURES GREAT & SMALL ENJOYING THIS TOO ALONG WITH EVERY SOUL WHO EVER PASSED AWAY. CAN YOU IMAGINE THAT (!!??) JOHN LENNON, MICHAEL JACKSON, PRINCE, FRANK ZAPPA, ANDY WILLIAM'S, ELVIS PRESLEY, MERLE HAGGARD, JOHNNY RIVERS, SELENA, JANIS JOPLIN, THE BEE GEE BROTHERS; THE LIST GOES ON & ON OF THE BEST MUSIC GREATS(!!) IMAGINE HEAVEN 'S BEST CONCERTS EVER (!!) JAMMING SESSIONS IN THE MAGNITUDES WITH ALL THESE GREATEST OF THE BEST MUSICIANS & VOCALISTS EVER )!!!). IMAGINE DENNIS WILSON; PLAYING DRUMS WITH ALL THE OTHER BEST DRUMMERS WHO ALSO ARE IN HEAVEN WITH HIM(!!!) 😇😎👼👍🏻GINGER BAKER...ETC INCLUDING THOSE FROM ALL OTHER COUNTRIES WE'VE NEVER HEARD OF ... ALL UP IN HEAVEN JAMMING TO THE BEACH BOY TUNES. I KNOW TWO OTHER BEACH BOYS ARE IN HEAVEN TOO...I FORGET THEIR NAMES. (!!!)THIS IS WHERE I WANT TO PUT MY JOY...I WANT TO IMAGINE THEM ALL HAPPY IN HEAVEN TOGETHER WITH FULL ON PEACE OF CHRIST JOY (!!!). IT'S NOT THE DRUM STICK I MISS THAT MR. DENNIS WILSON GAVE TO ME. I "HAVE" THOSE MEMORIES NOBODY CAN EVER TAKE AWAY. I HAVE SOMETHING WAAAAY MOTE VALUABLE. IT'S WHAT HE LEFT ME FROM HIS HEART. I'VE LASTING FOND MEMORIES OF THE BEACH BOYS ... & THEIR OFFSPRING CARNE & HER SISTER WHO JOIND THEIR FAMILY FRIEND CHYNNA PHILLIPS ... LATER STARTING THEIR OEN GROUP KNOWN TODAY AS "WILSON PHILLIPS"; (& THEIR "FAMILY FRIENDS TOO"); SUCH AS MICHELLE PHILLIPS WHO WAS ONCE MARRIED TO JOHN PHILLIPS...ALL FRIENDS TOGETHER...WHICH PRODUCED CHYNNA ..
    PHILLIPS...THROUGH "HER" HEREDITY; GIFT OF RARE MUSICAL INFLUENCE THAT WILL CONTINUE BECAUSE OF THEIR RAW TALENT...EACH GENERATION "WILL" CONTINUE THIS GIFT OF REPETITIVE RAW YET RARE TALENT FROM HEAVEN ABOVE...SENT TO EACH FAMILY MEMBER...AS THEY ARE BORN INTO THIS BEAUTIFUL FAMILY. MR. DENNIS WILSON ALSO CALLED ME "A LITTLE SPIT-FIRE" ! HE MADE ME SO HAPPY THAT DAY (!!!)
    HIS GIFT FROM HIS HEART MADE ME SO HAPPY TO LAST A LIFETIME. My fond & favorite
    memories of him as well as the Beach Boys will forever be : "In my Room"; "Surfer Girl"; "Help me Rhonda"; "The Warmth of the Sun"; "Barbara Ann"; "Kokomo"; "Good Vibrations "; & "California Girls". WHY DID I JUST PICK 8 YOU MAY ASK (??) IT WASNT EASY (!!) I DID SO IN LIEU OF HOW YOUNG I WAS BACK THEN...I WAS 7 I THINK...BUT ALMOST 8. Thank you once again Sir Dennis Wilson...for picking me up & sitting me sweetly upon your lap...letting me play your drums with you guiding my hands while you played. I felt SO proud. My Sister didn't mind...NOR did our neighborhood girlfriend. They just liked their music. I thought that someday I'd marry either Dennis Wilson or George Harrison of the Beatles. Oddly enough...the one man I so Dearly Loved & Love & I married in High School & went to go be with Jesus on our 39 Wedding Anniversary September 2nd; (1973; Colon Cancer) 2012; ... is an Angel in Heaven too...with these other loving Angels. How ironic is THAT (!?!!) R.I.P. ALL YOU LOVING ANGELS...DADDY THANK YOU FOR TAKING YOUR LITTLE GIRLS TO GO SEE THE BEACH BOYS LONG AGO...& MOMMA;
    THANK YOU FOR SAYING IT WAS OK FOR DADDY TO DO SO. HEAVEN SHINES OHHHHHHH SO MORE THE BRIGHTER WITH YOU ALL IN HEAVEN TOGETHER (!!!!)

      He got in a fight and his vocal chords were damaged which, in turn, created that gravely sound in his voice. He was a great singer earlier in the group's music.

      @@Bretta55 That fight actually happened in 1980-81. Mike Love's brother Stan punched him in a throat for giving Brian a heroin. After that, Dennis lost ability to sing at all. Here, his voice is just raspy, because of drinking and smoking alot.

      @@Bretta55 Yes, but Dennis never grew up his addictions. It's a tragedy. In my opinion, he was the only Beach Boy, who had enough charisma to become a solo performer. Brian wasn't an entertainer and Carl was better as a band leader. I think Dennis should've left The Beach Boys after he released his solo album.

      Dennis despised himself because he never thought he was good enough. He couldn't stand to be alone (which is why his rehabs stints always failed. Dennis didn't wanna stay in the facilities alone and he would leave when the staff would eject his chosen buddy) and he was miserable at the end of his life. The guy did that stuff because he felt out of place growing up (He once miserably complained that he felt like an outsider because he wasn't fat like his dad or Brian and Carl were) and he was abused. Sure, the guy had a lot of fun, but he also was miserable when he wasn't partying and that's no way to go through life.

      I wouldn’t blame Dennis for the Manson murders, he got caught up in sex and drugs while Manson sponged off him. Once he realised Manson was unstable, he backed off. There was no way he could’ve known that the family would go on to commit such a horrific crime. His association with Manson haunted him until he died and it probably drove his alcoholism.
